  • Trouble opening my router to my web server

    - by Justin Heather Barrios
Here's the story. I have a webs server created and connected to my router. The website works great when I'm connected to the router, but when I'm off the network I can't access the website. I got the IP for my router by googling "what is my ip." I have opened ports 80 to 10080 to link to the server in the router. One odd thing that I don't understand. When I am in network if I access XXX.XXX.XX.XX:80 I can access the web page no problem. If I access XXX.XXX.XX.XX:81 (or any other port) I get the error "Cannot access server." Any idea what the problem could be? Could it be my ISP?

  • What options should I consider for a modern Web/Mobile development stack? [on hold]

    - by jimmy_terra
I'm a long time server side dev who has been tasked with building a bleeding edge web UI (go figure), so apologies for the very broad nature of the question. What are the best modern libraries, tools, languages and patterns for building a dynamic web application that will run seamlessly on mobiles also? My requirements are that it must be dynamic (push updates), support automated testing, and should allow 'componentization' (a team of devs will be working on this). What should I check out and why? I will start off with some of the things I'm looking at already: Front-end HTML5 CSS3 JavaScript AngularJs Testing Karma Testem Jasmine Patterns Single Page Applications

  • Developing and implementing a testing plan for a software app deployed on a web server

    - by Abhzoo
A company in the USA is building a new Web App that will be offered SaaS to customers and the development is being done by a software development team located in a different country(India). They are about to take delivery of a first demo to provide live feedback to the team in India. The overseas team requires a cloud server (Windows + SQL Standard, 8GB Ram, 8 vCPUs, 40GB SSD system disk, 80GB SSD data disk, 1600Mb/s network bandwidth) to serve as a tester server. When the tester is setup the team will install the app on the test server to get live feedback. Q:Explain in detail how you will develop and implement a testing plan for the software App. Be sure to explain the specifics. PLEASE HELP, NEED ANSWER ASAP

  • Web Farm Application deployment best practices

    - by rauts
Hi All, We are having a web farm which hosts multiple ASP.Net applications. We typically have 4 servers on the farm. The dilemma which i am having is in terms of capacity issue of the farm. Lets say i have currently got 200 apps in total. Should I deploy all 200 apps on all 4 servers (i.e. all the servers in the farm are identical) or should i split the applications between 2 sets of server and create 2 smaller farms so that i can then manage the application based on its criticality and usage etc. Any best practices in this area would be highly appreciated. Thanks Rauts

  • Do I have to learn html and javascript to create web applications?

    - by vainolo
I am an experienced Java programmer, and I want to create a complex web application requiring dynamic pages, drawings, etc (take SO as an example). Do I have to learn javascript/html in order to create such an application? It is not that I don't want to learn another language (I've done this before), but technology on the javascript environment seems to change so fast that when you finish learning one framework it is already obsolete. I have checked a number of java framework for web development (spring, play), but not deeply. So can these frameworks (or other possible java frameworks that I'm not aware of) be used without learning html/javascript? I also have some python experience. So if I can do the app in python it is also an option.

  • Windows Azure HPC Scheduler Architecture

    - by Churianov Roman
So far I've found very little information on the scheduling policy, resource management policy of Azure HPC Scheduler. I would appreciate any kind of information regarding some of these questions: What scheduling policy does a Head Node use to scatter jobs to Compute Nodes? Does Azure Scheduler use prior information about the jobs (compute time, memory demands ...) ? If 'yes', how it gets this information? Does Azure Scheduler split a job into several parallel jobs on one Compute node? Does it have any protection from Compute Node failures? (what it does when a compute node stops responding) Does it support addition/subtraction of Compute nodes? Is it possible to cancel a job? P.S. I'm aware of the MSDN resource Windows Azure HPC Scheduler. I found only information of how to use this Scheduler but almost nothing about how it works inside.

  • The Emergence of a New Architecture for Long-term Data Retention

    - by Claudia Caramelli-Oracle
Dear Partner, A new research report from Wikibon explains how the combination of flash and tape makes for a superior solution for long-term data archives versus using dedupe appliances. The combination of these two technologies, that have been in the market, one for a few years and the other for decades, introduces a new concept. The concept is “Flape”, a concept first coined by Wikibon in October of 2012. Flape is a combination of Flash (SSD) technology and tape…this combination of technologies when used for long-term archiving can save IT departments as much as 300% of their overall IT budget over the course of 10 years. Do you want to know more? You can review the whole report here.

  • what else except web development is a good choice for freelancing? [closed]

    - by Sali
I'm looking for a technology that when I learn I can build useful things that brings money by selling what I have built. I tried web development but Ifound that there are many things that I have to learn: html, css, javascript, ajax, jquery ,etc. I need to focus on one thing and learning it from scratch and continue learning if there is any update in that technology rather than learning new things in css and javascript and the server side language. I want to focus! However, I'm not sure what is going on in the future of technology and I need to learn something for freelancing. could you tell what is the thing thatis popular and will bring me money as good as web development?

  • I need a backend system that is integrated with web services, is there an open source solution?

    - by Jarom
I'm basically familiar with what I need in order to setup web services to talk with a centralized db, but if I don't have to go through and do all the work, I'd rather not. Is there an open source solution that would allow me to easily integrate web services for data transfer to a central db? I want to make a site that is powered by a db that can also be accessed by other things like mobile apps for example. What are the steps involved in setting up such a site? Any help is appreciated! I could use all the help I can get!

  • Software architecture map to aid cross team communication?

    - by locster
I work in a company where multiple teams each work on different parts of a software product in a vaguely agile/scrum manner. Mostly the organisation works well but there have been instances where a team may make a change without realising its impact on other teams. Where dependence is known communication has been good, and where dependence is suspected then 'broadcast' emails and informal conversations have also worked well. But there exists a sub-set of tasks that fall between the cracks. Broadcast emails are likely not the solution as they would become too numerous such that the email signal/noise ratio would fall. I'm contemplating a solution that involves a sort of map of the software, which details all of the various parts of the system and loosely tries to place interacting and dependent parts near to each other. Each developer then updates their position on the map (today I'm working on X and Y), and therefore if two or more developers happen to be co-located (or proximate) on the map then we can see this each day and this could form the trigger for further discussion on possible overlap and conflict. Is such a method out there and in use? If so what is it and does it work? Otherwise, do you think such a scheme has merit?

  • Recommend a web file sharing software please.

    - by Baczek
I'm looking for a web platform to put company files at. My requirements are: should be accessible via a browser should be open source must be installable (dropbox is a no-go) must have an option to put a access time limit on a file must perform garbage collection automatically after a file expires must be able to mark files as public or private an option to protect a file via a pin-code for users without accounts in the system would be nice to have The problem is I don't even know what to search for - all my googling results in either complete groupware solutions or p2p file sharing software. If such a thing doesn't exist, please don't hestitate to say so, so I can crawl to a corner and cry myself to sleep. TIA

  • Modern workflow / project architecture with PHP

    - by Sprottenwels
I wonder how one professional developer would design the backend-part of his application. I try to use PHP as seldom as possible and only for data serving/saving purposes. To do so, i would create a module/class for every greater part of my application, then write some single script files which are called by javascript. E.g: User clicks a "retrieve data" button javascript will call retrieveData.php retrieveData.php will create an instance of the needed class, then executes myInstance-retrieve() the data is returned to my JS by retrieveData.php However, i see some disadvantages in this practice: I will need a single scipt file for every action, (e.g retrieveData.php, saveData.php etc) I need a man-in-the-middle step: from JS to my single script, to my classes How are modern applications designed to accomplish what i need to do?

  • Learn Linux Command Line for Web Server Management [closed]

    - by Jonathan
I've searched high and low for a good resource for learning the Linux command line. I've found a handful of separate resources, but none that really can assist in web server management. I'm currently learning through trial an error with 'man' pages, along with Google. I was just wondering if anyone had a solid resource that they used to learn, and would be willing to share it with me. Thanks so much for your time, I really appreciate it! EDIT: I have a few CentOS servers at current, and I know the basics, I'm just trying to get to a more advanced level.

  • How do I add restrictions for users to sign up before they can access web site?

    - by user1867842
How do I get my webpage not to go back when they hit the back button and are logged out and how can I add a web page to be blocked like FACEBOOK doesn't let you get into their site with out having a page or a account with them, and if you try to put something in the url and try to go to something on their site it gives you a web page that says "you have to be logged in first" . Like I don't want someone going to the url of the "index" page before they have signed up as a member they need to make an account first then they can have access to the "index" page. How do I do this. I have a website so far that has a database and the website has 5 pages so far and two of them which is the login and sign up page which are both used with php and mysql and they work fine. How do I restrict access to the main website by first having the users sign up with me for an account.

  • Url-based web site publishing on Windows Server platform

    - by Maxim V. Pavlov
I have a Windows 2008 Enterprise SP2 server in a datacenter. It is 32bit OS. I need to be able to do a "smart" url-based web site publishing. So that with a single external IP I can publish many sites on port 80, and some firewall logic resolves, based on a requested URL, which site in IIS gets the request. Forefront TMG 2010 has this feature, but it is not supported on 32bit systems. Is there a software solution that can satissfy my need on Windows 2K8 platform? Thank you. P.S. Perhaps there is a workaround or a tweak to do what I need in IIS?

  • web.config caching differences

    - by Ivanhoe123
    What are the differences between these two approaches of caching (set up through web.config file)? <caching> <profiles> <add extension=".php" policy="DisableCache" kernelCachePolicy="DisableCache" /> <add extension=".html" policy="CacheForTimePeriod" kernelCachePolicy="CacheForTimePeriod" duration="7:00:00" /> </profiles> </caching> and: <staticContent> <clientCache cacheControlMode="UseMaxAge" cacheControlMaxAge="7.00:00:00" /> </staticContent> If the first one has img/css/js extensions added, would both work the same way? Thank you!

  • Personally identifiable information (PII) on shared web hosting

    - by S. Cobbs
Hey folks, I am providing web hosting services (shared and dedicated) and have had one of my shared hosting clients mention needing an SSL cert for their site where they are collecting insurance quotes in a form, including names and social security numbers. My privacy sense is tingling, and I'm pretty sure it's not legal (in the US) to do this on a shared system, but can't find anything to support my thoughts outside of PCI-DSS, but the customer isn't processing payments through the site so I'm not sure if that applies. I'm reading lots of policy documents where people advise to minimize and manage the PII footprint internally, but as the host I don't want to put all of my customer's clients at possible risk. I'm not looking here for legal advice necessarily, but perhaps someone in a similar position to mine can provide some rule of thumb or point me in the right direction.
