  • PostgreSQL service doesn't start on Windows 7

    (Not sure if this should be on Stack Overflow or Super User... please move if needed.) When I start the PostgreSQL service on Windows 7 x64, it immediately stops. When I check my log folder (C:\PostgreSQL\9.1\data\pg_log\), I see new but empty log files. The Event Viewer doesn't tell me anything other than the fact that the server did not respond. I've even tried turning off my firewall (I don't have any antivirus or anything else), but nothing helps. The setup works fine when I'm on Windows XP (32-bit) (same computer, different partition). I can't figure out what's wrong, even though I've tried tracing the system calls. Is PostgreSQL compatible with Windows 7 x64 at all? Any ideas what the issue might be? More info: This problem also happens at the end of installation -- the service starts, then stops immediately, before the installer can do anything. Installation log: Starting the database server...   • Unable to delete a file using bash script

    I'm having problems removing a file in a bash script. I saw the other post with the same problem but none of those solutions solved my problem. The bash script is an OP5 surveillance check and it calls an Expect process that saves a temporary file to the local drive which the bash script reads from. Once it has read the file and checked its status I would like to remove the temporary file. I'm pretty new to scripting so my script may not be as optimal as it can be. Either way it does the job except removing the file once it's done. And specify that in the rm command. I tried creating another if statement similar to the one I use to verify that file exist and then rm the filename. I tried adding the complete name of the file (no variables, just plain text of the file) I can: Remove the file using the full name in both a separate script and directly in the CLI. Is there something in my script that locks the file that prevents me from removing it? I'm not sure what to try next. Thanks in advance!

  • Creating static NAT blocks outbound traffic Cisco ASA

    Hi Everyone, I have two web servers sitting behind a Cisco ASA 5505, which I don't have much experience with. I'm trying to create two static NATs. One static NAT that goes to xx.xx.xx.150 and another that goes to xx.xx.xx.151. I've created the static NAT for the .150 web server and it works FINE. Incoming and outgoing traffic work great. This is the staging web server. I now need to duplicate the setup for the production web server. So, I connect the webserver to the firewall, change the public IP address on one of the NICs reboot the server and I have outbound internet access. Then I run the command: static (inside,outside) xx.xx.xx.150 192.168.1.x which is successful. I then run the command: access-list acl-outside permit tcp any host xx.xx.xx.150 eq 80 Which is successful. I then try to browse the internet and I get nothing. I try to telnet in through port 80 and I get nothing (though I'm guessing because the response to the telnet request is being blocked). I've tried this with the production web server and then I tried it with another web server that is for internal testing and have the exact same problem. Both work fine until I run the static NAT rule and then no outbound internet access. I have a feeling that it's something simple that I'm missing, but my limited experience with this device is killing me. Below I've pasted the current configuration. I'm currently trying to get this to work on the .153 server which is the internal testing server.   • SSH into Fedora 17 will not work with new users

    I just deployed a new Fedora 17 server on the Amazon EC2. I was able to log in as ec2-user with my generated keypair, but I cannot log in under normal circumstances as a user I created.     This is actually a question from an exam, but I believe it could help others troubleshooting a similar situation. In a system, an e-mail needs to be sent to a certain mailbox. The following Java code, which is part of a larger system, was developed for that.   • Cisco ASA: Allowing and Denying VPN Access based on membership to an AD group

    I have a Cisco ASA 5505 connecting to an Active Directory server for VPN authentication. Usually we'd restrict this to a particular OU, but in this case users which need access are spread across multiple OUs. So, I'd like to use a group to specify which users have remote access. I've created the group and added the users, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to deny users which aren't in that group. Right now, if someone connects they get assigned the correct group policy "companynamera" if they are in that group, so the LDAP mapping is working. However, users who are not in that group still authenticate fine, and their group policy becomes the LDAP path of their first group, i.e. CN=Domain Users,CN=Users,DC=example,DC=com, and then are still allowed access. How do I add a filter so that I can map everything that isn't "companynamera" to no access? Right now I schedule a scale up and scale down action which gets rid of the old instances.

  • Passwordless ssh failed when login using username

    I was trying to setup Hadoop and was stumbled on passwordless ssh to localhost. I am getting a password prompt when trying to connect using ssh username@hostname format. But there is no problem connecting to the machine like ssh localhost or ssh hostname.com. Tried ssh-copy-id user@hostname but it did not work. Using CentOS 6.3 as normal user, I neither have root access or am a sudoer so editing any files like sshd_config is not possible (not even cat the sshd_config file contents).     One of our machines was recently put behind an SSL proxy and since then I can't connect to puppet with "Could not evaluate: certificate verify failed." I have checked that the dates match, regenerated the certificates but to no avail. Debugging the verification with "openssl s_client -showcerts -connect puppetmaster:puppetmasterport" shows "Verify return code: 0 (ok)" Initially the Proxy SSL Certificate was not recognized with a "Verify return code: 20 (unable to get local issuer certificate)" problem which was then fixed with the answer in the question: Adding root certificate to CentOS 5

I tried to revert the change using both: BCDEDIT /set increaseUserva 2048 or BCDEDIT /deletevalue increaseUserva But, I get to the same problem when I run the Matlab code. When I check bcdedit/enum all, it does not contain increaseUserva, after /deletevalue command. Any idea?

    We have a rather unfortunate legacy application at work, written originally in VB6 it predates anybody in our IT department by at least 5 years. We have a contracted developer for ongoing maintenance and where he can he rewrites sections over into .NET code (Not sure about his techniques here, this is a side job for his regular work as an IBM engineer) the application works fine (such as it is) under windows XP. We have only a couple of Windows 7 machines mainly for testing and this application seems to run into a wall. Things like the background not loading and SQL errors. This is even running under administrator. Running an SQL trace from the ODBC control panel shows several interesting things. It makes a connection to the database successfully initially where it runs a query to determine if it is running the correct version. I have already tried reinstalling the SQL Native Client and the VB runtime as well as the application in question. Hopefully I can find a solution and not have to resort to using the XP VM.
