• No Orca magnification in Ubuntu 12.04

  I'm a visually impaired Linux/Ubuntu newbie. I've installed 12.04 from a live CD and have the Orca screen reader running at start up. Speach works fine but there is no magnification. When I open Orca preferences there is no magnification tab. I have tried uninstalling Orca and re-installing if from the Software Centre, but still no magnification. Can anyone tell me how to add magnification to Orca? Thanks.

My other option is to download it on my home pc and them make image of my computer but this will be too big to put on USB flash drive. How do I install the likewise 6 (I have it downloaded) manually, without internet connection? Thanks.

  Today we did another patch set update for Oracle VM 3 (3.0.3-build 227). This can be downloaded from My Oracle Support as patch ID 14736185. There are quite a few updates in here and I highly recommend any Oracle VM 3 customer or user to install this update. This patch can be installed on top of Oracle VM 3.0 versions 3.0.2 and 3.0.3. The patch is cumulative for 3.0.3. So if you already installed patch update 1 (3.0.3-150) then this will just be incremental on top of that and brings you to 3.0.3-build 227. There is a readme file which contains the patchlist in the patch info. There now are 6 commands : ovm_vmcontrol : VM level operations ovm_servercontrol : server level operations ovm_vmdisks : virtual disk/physical location mapping for VM disks ovm_vmmessage : message passing utility between the manager and the VM tools (in the Oracle VM templates) ovm_repocontrol : repository level operations ovm_poolcontrol : pool level operations Some of the new changes : at a pool level, acknowledge events and cascade to servers and virtual machines with outstanding events at a pool level, do a rescan of the storage for fibrechannel/iscsi disks if you add new devices (it does this operation then on every running server) at a repository level, fixup a device if it had a failed create repository at a repository level, refresh the repository and this will update the free space in the UI for ocfs2 repositories at a server level, acknowledge server events and cascade to virtual machines if needed at a VM level, acknowledge VM events at a VM level, bind vcpus to cores with vcpuset/vcpuget Please see the man pages and remember that these tools are just written As Is - no SRs... • Finale or Sibelius on Ubuntu 11.10 under Wine?

  I want to install either Finale 2011-2012 or Sibelius 5-6-7 on my 11.10 install via Wine. Before I purchase any of them, does anyone know if they work on Wine 1.4 (or even 1.5) on 11.10? I've seen some posts on the Winehq about those programs, but they are on older Wine releases on older Ubuntu releases with older versions of software. Also, I'm not the biggest fan of MuseScore...if anyone knows of any native programs for Linux that as powerful as Finale or Sibelius, could anyone let me know?

  i'm a new linux user and i cannot add or edit any network connections, nor is the system detecting any wireless networks when i try to access additional hardware from system, it doesn't even open...so i'm stuck. lspci | grep -i wireless comes out with 06:0a.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network connection (rev 05) lspci -n -s 06:0a.0 comes out with 8086:4220. i dont know if that info was relevant but any help on this would be appreciated.

  After an upgrade to the latest Hardware Stack using Ubuntu 12.04, my iscsi service is not longer operational. The error from the service is such: FATAL: Module iscsi_trgt not found. I have learned that I might need to reinstall the package iscsitarget-dkms. this package builds a driver or something during installation, from source. During this build process, it reports and error, and now has also broke my package manager. • Ubuntu Server Cannot Route to the Internet

  I've been having this problem for weeks now, and I can't seem to figure out the problem. My server can route the local network and serves it well, however it cannot access the internet. It can't be the router because everything else on this lan can route through the router. I've even switched the ethernet port. Any help would be appreciated. • What can I do to make sure my code gets maintained in a developer light environment?

  I am a contract data analyst, so I bounce between jobs every 3-6 months, which I find to be a good fit for me, but it leads to some problems when it comes to coding. I mostly do statistics (I've asked a similar question on cross validated, but the answers there are not relevant here), but I have also found out that the business world loves excel and loves copying and pasting the same thing over and over again even more. This led me to learn how to write VBA scripts and then VB.NET programs to automate as many of these reports as I can. I am certain my programs are not the most elegant, but I put a good bit of effort into making sure they work under as many cases as I can test, I add in exceptions and try to code so the program can handle changes in the files that it processes, but there is a limit, if you remove a huge portion of the data, there is a good chance my program is going to trip up, which I accept will inevitably happen. Usually a pretty minor change in the code fixes the problem and I do try and comment my code and make it readable under the assumption that some other person will have to read it some day. My problem is that I generally get put on teams of folks with essentially no experience with programming (like VBA would be a huge stretch for anyone I work directly with). I am wondering what I should be doing as the person that wrote the code to do my best to keep it maintained. I have two approaches in mind (outlined next), but would be very happy to get any advice. Solution 1: Find the more tech savvy coworkers and run them through the programs and what basic changes can be made. Honestly automating excel is about as easy as it can get when it comes to programming, so I feel like I could teach someone the basics of maintaining it pretty quick. Solution 2: Get in touch with the IT department and show them what is going on and maybe they will be able to help. The problem here is that the IT department is constantly swamped (as I'm sure many of you know) and I feel like kind of a jerk for dumping more things on them. I do leave my personal email address with places and am willing to answer quick questions via email, but I view the need for more exhaustive maintenance as something of an inevitability and would like to make sure I do my due diligence to make sure it gets done. I imagine some combination of the two approaches outlined there, but is there any kind of heads up I should give IT? I feel like I would be annoyed if I started getting requests to fix a program that I had never seen from some random guy that is no longer there.

Installed java-6-openjdk from ubuntu software center. I have set java_home in .bashrc.Also set java_home in hadoop conf/ env.sh. While formatting the namenode, getting error: usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/bin/java no such file or directory.

• Post 12.04 Update, stuck on splash screen

• OBIEE 11.1.1.5.0 Bundle Patch 2 is available

  Oracle BI EE 11.1.1.5.0 Bundle Patch 2 is available. The Patch number is 13611078 and it can be downloaded from Oracle Support (you can download it without password). This patch currently is available on Microsoft Windows x64 (64 bit), Linux x86 - 64 bit, IBM AIX on Power System (64 bit) and Oracle Solaris Sparc (64 bit). Remaining four platforms Win32, Linux32, HP-Itanium, and Solaris x86-64 are expected 3-4 weeks later. This Patch has thoroughly been tested and signed off by BI QA Team.  Important things to know: 1. All the customers are advised to apply this patch as it contains around 248 bug fixes. Please read the README file for all the bug fixes contained in this patch.   2. This patch can be applied via opatch. Please follow the standard process of applying this patch using opatch, i.e. stop all BI System processes via opmnctl, Stop WLS Managed and Admin Servers, Apply Patch, Start WLS Admin and Managed Servers, Check if all the J2EE applications are running fine, Start all BI System Processes via opmnctl command, and verify your fixes. It is advised to test this patch on Non Productions Instances first, run all the required tests / regressions and then move it to Production.    3. This Bundle Patch is cumulative to 11.1.1.5.0 BP1 (13562882) which was released in January 2012 on Linux x86 - 64 bit which contained around 64 bug fixes. Customers who have applied 11.1.1.5.0 BP1, will get expected OPatch conflict message, they can safely roll back BP1 prior to installing this BP2 or let opatch roll back BP1 during its application process.   4. Customer who have applied some one off patches and these one off patches are also part of 11.1.1.5.0 BP2, they can also roll back their existing one off patches after confirming that their fixes are part of BP2.    5. This Bundle Patch is not cumulative on top of 11.1.1.5.0, meaning this bundle patch does not contain all the one off fixes that were delivered on top of 11.1.1.5.0. All the remaining one off fixes delivered so far, will be available in next scheduled bundle patch i.e. 11.1.1.5.0 BP3. Please check the README file and let support know if your existing fixes are not part of BP2, so that support can open One Off Backport (OOB) request to have them included in next patch i.e. BP3.   6. 11.1.1.5.0 BP3 is in planning stages, and dates for it's availability will be announced in next couple of weeks.

• I installed the Nautilus Actions Configuration utility but I don't have the action configuration menu option
