• jQuery trigger custom event synchronously?

  I am using the jQuery trigger method to call an event... but it behaves inconsistently. Sometimes it call the event, sometimes it does not. <a href="#" onclick=" $(this).trigger('custom-event'); window.location.href = 'url'; return false; ">text</a> The custom-event has lots of listeners added to it. It is as if the trigger method is not synchronous, allowing the window.location.href be changed before executing the events. And when window.location.href is changed a navigation occurs, interrupting everything. How can I trigger events synchronously? Using jQuery 1.8.1. Thanks! • How can I add one line into all php files' beginning?

  So, ok. I have many php files and one index.php file. All files can't work without index.php file, because I include them in index.php. For example. if somebody click Contact us the URL will become smth like index.php?id=contact and I use $_GET['id'] to include contacts.php file. But, if somebody find the file's path, for example /system/files/contacts.php I don't want that that file would be executed. So, I figured out that I can add before including any files in index.php line like this $check_hacker = 1 and use if in every files beginning like this if($check_hacker <> 1) die();. So, how can I do it without opening all files and adding this line to each of them? Is it possible? Because I actually have many .php files. And maybe there is other way to do disable watching separate file? Any ideas? Thank you.

• Using Zend_Db and multiple tables

  I have a normalized database that stores locations of files on the internet. A file may have multiple locations spread across different sites. I am storing the urls in two parts (Site.UrlStart, FileLocation.UrlEnd). The UrlEnd is the part unique to that file (for the site). Simplified Db structure: I am using Zend_Db as my ORM (If it is that), with classes for the tables inheriting from Zend_Db_Table_Abstract. The issue is that retrieving the location data (e.g. the url) requires the use of multiple tables and as far as I can make out and I would either have to use both table classes (thereby exposing my table structure) or scatter sql all over my application, neither of which sound appealing. The only solution I can see is to create a façade that acts like Zend_Db_Table_Abstract (Maybe inherits from it?) and hides the fact that the data is actually on two tables. My questions are as follows: Am I going in the right direction in creating a façade class (Are there other alternatives)? Should the facade class inherit from Zend_Db_Table_Abstract?

• Syntax Problems of if Statement (php)

  I need a little help with an if statement in php. I'm trying to set a variable called offset according to a page that I am loading in WordPress. Here's the variable: $offset = ($paged * 6); What it does is it loads the first page, which is: http://example.com/blog and $offset is thus set to 0 because $paged is referring to the appending number on the URL. The second page, for example is: http://example.com/blog/2/ which makes $offset set to 12. The problem is, I need the second page to define $offset as 6, the third page to define $offset as 12, etc. I tried using: $offset = ($paged * 6 - 6) which works except on the first page. On the first page it defines $offset as -6. SO, I wanted to create an if statement that says if $paged is equal to 0 then $offset is equal to 0, else $offset is equal to ($paged * 6 - 6). I struggle with syntax, even though I understand what needs to be done here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  I'm having a little trouble thinking through this and deciding if it's a design flaw on my behalf or if I'm missing a piece that could make this work. Basically I'm using the new SLRequest to make a Twitter API call.   I have a search form with inputs and selects, and when any input/select is changed i run some js and then make an ajax query with jquery. I want to stop the user from making further changes to the form while the request is in progress, as at the moment they can initiate several remote searches at once, effectively causing a race between the different searches. It seems like the best solution to this is to prevent the user from interacting with the form while waiting for the request to come back. At the moment i'm doing this in the dumbest way possible by hiding the form before making the ajax query and then showing it again on success/error. This solves the problem but looks horrible and isn't really acceptable. Is there another, better way to prevent interaction with the form? To make things more complicated, to allow nice-looking selects, the user actually interacts with spans which have js hooked up to them to tie them to the actual, hidden, selects. So, even though the spans aren't inputs, they are contained in the form and represent the actual interactive elements of the form. Grateful for any advice - max. • Can't seem to get my like/dislike to work in PHP

  My table is comment_likedislike. It has the comment_counterid, comment_counter, comment_id(which is from another table) fields. And I have an url (LIKE) that when clicked would link to this code and get the comment_id and like_id. I want to do a count where if it is the first 'like', it would store a new comment_counter in the comment_likedislike table. But if there is already a 'like' for the comment in the table, it would just update the comment_counter to +1. Problem: When I run this code, it doesn't UPDATE(1st statement) but INSERT(2nd if statement) no matter if there is a like for the comment or not. I don't think the code is checking if the comment_id is in the table already. I am a novice php programmer. • Virtualmin - Domain / Subdomain confusion

  Hi, I've just purchased a new VPS and setup Virtualmin on it. I pointed my domain at the IP of the server and set up a new virtual server through Virtualmin. I uploaded a simple php script to check it was working and it seemed to be fine. I then created a subserver and also pointed test.mydomain.com to my IP, with the intension of having mydomain.com and test.mydomain.com both pointing to different directories on my VPS. However, once I added the subserver, I received a 403 Forbidden message if I tried to access either the new subdomain OR the existing site. I uploaded a similar php script to the subfolder and it then displayed correctly. However, I now get sent to the same script regardless of what URL I type in. I did try posting this message on the Virtualmin forum, but their filters picked it up as spam and wouldn't allow it. Can anyone help me? I'm sure it's just something simple, but this is driving me crazy! Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

• Redirecting http to https for a directory, via .htaccess, using mod_alias only

  I have the common problem of wanting to redirect requests for a certain restricted access directory from http to https, so that users' login credentials are sent in a secure way. However, I do not have mod_rewrite enabled on my server. I only have mod_alias. This means I have to use the RedirectMatch command. I can't use the usual solutions that use RewriteCond and RewriteRule. (A note on the politics: I am a small-fry subsite maintainer in a very large organisation, so the server admins are unlikely to be willing to change the server config for me!) The following line works, but forms an infinite loop (because the rewritten URL is still caught by the initial regular expression): RedirectMatch permanent ^/intranet(.*)$ https://example.com/intranet$1 One of my internal IT guys has suggested I avoid the infinite loop by moving the files to a new directory with a new name (eg /intranet2/). That seems pretty ugly to me. And people could still accidentally/deliberately revert to an insecure connection by visiting http://example.com/intranet2/ directly. Then I tried this, but it didn't work: RedirectMatch permanent ^http:(.*)/intranet(.*)$ https://example.com/intranet$1 I suspect it didn't work because the first argument must be a file path from the root directory, so it can't start with "http:". So: any better ideas how to do this?

• Import Excel into Rails app

  Hi, I am creating a small rails app for personal use and would like to be able to upload excel files to later be validated and added to the database. I had this working previously with csv files, but this has since become impractical. Does anyone know of a tutorial for using the roo or spreadsheet gem to upload the file, display the contents to the user and then add to the database (after validating)? I know this is quite specific, but I want to work through this step by step.   I'm a programmer trying to learn some css and I've already run into a stumbling block. I have the following HTML: <div class="container"> <div class="span-24 last"> Header </div> <div class="span-4"> Left sidebar </div> <div class="span-16"> <div class="span-8"> Box1 </div> <div class="span-4"> Box2 </div> <div class="span-4 last"> Box3 </div> <div class="span-16 last"> Main content </div> </div> <div class="span-4 last"> Right sidebar </div> <div class="span-24 last"> Footer </div> </div> In my css I have the following: body { background-color:#FFFFFF; } div.container { background:url(/images/bck.jpg); } I just want to display an image for the background area for the container div but nothing shows up. If I remove the background section from the css and add background-color:#000000; then I see a black background for the container div. What am I overlooking?
