  I writing here to clear my and may be many people 's misconceptions about them... first my question is: SOAP is xml based protocol REST is web based architectural web service JSON is standard but not xml based how can we compare them???? as trio are different things 2nd question is: is REST response xml based only or json based also??? if it is also xml based then how can we consider it different then SOAP and even faster... 3rd question is: how can we apply authentication header on REST and jSON based web services (any reference with description) 4th question is: what is SOA and if some application contains some web services, can we consider it SOA based means what are SOA specs... your response would be appreciated :)

  Hi All, I'm currently struggling with this "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute" issue. I have searched about this error message, and it's all related to the foreach statement. I do have the some foreach statements, but they are just simply representing the data. I did not using any remove or add inside the foreach statement. NOTE: The error randomly happens (about 4-5 times a day). The application is the MVC website. There are about 5 users operate this applications (about 150 orders a day). Could it be some another users modified the collection, and then occur this error? I have log4net setup and the settings can be found here Make sure that the controller has a parameterless public constructor I do have parameterless public constructor in AdminProductController Does anyone know why this happen and how to resolve this issue? A friend (Oskar) mentioned that "Theory: Maybe the problem is that your configuration and session factory is initialized on the first request after application restart. If a second request comes in before the first request is finished, maybe it will also try to initialize and then triggering this problem somehow." Many thanks. • 3-tier architecture v. 3-server architecture

  I'm building a traditional .NET MVC site, so I've got a natural 3-tier software architecture setup (presentation in the form of Views, business layer in the controller, and data layer in the models and data access layer). When I've deployed such sites, it usually goes either on one server (where the web site and db live), or two servers (a web server and a separate db server). How does one go about a 3-server architecture (WEB, APP, and DB)? Would the web server just have the presentation (e.g. the physical View/aspx pages), the app server would hold the config file and bin folder, and the db server would remain as is? My question is essentially, can you simply move the /bin and all app logic onto a separate server from the presentation views? If so, how do you configure the servers to know where to look? If there's a good primer somewhere or someone can give me the lowdown, I'd be forever indebted.

  I upgraded my MVC Application using MSChart to MVC 2 and have ended up with broken image links for the charts.   I inherited a web application that makes calls to a web service. It is being developed in VS2008 SP1 and deployed to IIS6 (2k3 Server R2). Since I upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise RTM, the following line gets added to my Web.config: <extendedProtectionPolicy policyEnforcement="Never" /> The problem is that when I deploy this application to my web server I get the following error: The element 'transport' cannot contain child element 'extendedProtectionPolicy' because the parent element's content model is empty I can remove the line and it will work, but its a pain and I forget sometimes to remove it again (VS2008 adds seems to add it back whenever I load the solution!!). Is there anything that can be done? • Using Data Annotations on POCO's with MVC for Remote Validation

  Hi All, I am developing an ASP.NET MVC app and I've been looking into using Data Annotations on my POCO's which are defined in my Service Layer. As long as I have a reference to System.ComponentModel & System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations this is no problem and what I like about this is that it allows me to reuse my Service Layer in a Win Forms app. I'm now looking to do some Remote Validation using Data Annotations and have taken a look at this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff398048(VS.100).aspx However, to use the Data Annotations in this context I need to reference System.Web.MVC, System.Web and System.Web.Routing. This introduces a dependency on the Web DLL's, which limits me somewhat. Can anyone recommend a good clean way to implement Remote Data Validation using Data Annotations that isn't coupled with ASP.NET MVC or maybe suggest a better alternative. Thanks for the help !

  Hi, Is there a way to change background color for UIWebView? None of the colors set in IB effect UIWebView behavior: before acctual content is loaded it shows as up as white (causing a white flash between the moment it is loaded and content is rendered). Setting background color programmatically does not do anything either. • Fiddler not sniffing SOAP traffic from ASP.NET website

  So far I've been successfully using fiddler to sniff web service traffic from both test fixtures, console apps and web projects. Today I noticed I am not able anymore to sniff that kind of traffic if I am running my web application (it's a ASP.NET website, hosted locally on IIS). I see all the local traffic but the web service traffic is just gone (the service is being hit as I do see the response debugging into the code). I am still able to successfully sniff soap requests and responses from test fixtures or console apps in the same solution (exact same environment). If it was a windows (I am on Win7) security update or the likes it would never work I guess (unless it affects only traffic routed through IIS). What should I be looking for that could cause the emergence this behavior? Any pointers appreciated!

• How to save the content in UIWebView for faster loading on next launch?

  I know that there are some caching classes introduced in the iphone sdk recently, and there is also a TTURLRequest from three20's library that allows you to cache a request to a URL. However, because I am loading the web page in UIWebView by calling UIWebView's loadRequest, those techniques are not really applicable. Any ideas how I can save a web page so that on next app launch, I don't have to fetch from the web again for the full page? The page itself already have some ajax mechanism that updates parts of itself automatically.

  I'm calling a third-party vendor's external SSL web service from a .NET 3.5 client (WinForm). The vendor has asked me to send them the Soap Header to verify why things aren't working. I used WireShark to capture packets, but since the web service is SSL, the packets are encrypted. Is there a few magic lines of code to add to my C# client to save or display the Soap Envelope either right before I call their web/method or right after?

My question is, if I am using Asynchronous Processing=true with SQL Server authentication mode (not Windows authentication mode, i.e. using sa account and password in connection string in web.config), I am wondering whether Asynchronous Processing=true will impact performance of my web application (or depends on my ADO.Net code implementation pattern/scenario)?   I am having an impossible time getting asp.net 4.0 to work in any fashion at all. In fact, I completely wiped my server, reinstalled with Server 2008 R2 Standard (running on a VMWare ESXi box, not that it should matter), and cannot even get a test .aspx page to work. Here is exactly what I did: Installed 2008 R2 Standard Activated windows and enabled Remote Desktop Installed the Web Server Role with the necessary role services(common http, asp.net, logging, tracing, management service and FTP) Enabled the management service Installed .Net Framework 4.0 via web executable Added FTP publishing to the default web site Switched default web site application pool to asp.net 4.0 (integrated) Added a 'test.aspx' file to the inetpub\wwwroot folder (contents below) Opened a browser to http://localhost/test.aspx and received a 500.0 error (also below) What am I missing? • no namenode error in pseudo-mode

  I'm new to hadoop and is in learning phase. As per Hadoop Definitve guide, i have set up my hadoop in pseudo distributed mode and everything was working fine. I was even able to execute all the examples from chapter 3 yesterday. Today, when i rebooted my unix and tried to run start-dfs.sh and then tried http://localhost/50070....it is showing error and when i try to stop dfs (stop-dfs.sh) it says no namenode to stop. I have been googling the issue but no result. Also, when i format my namenode again...everything starts working fine and i'm able to connect to the localhost/50070 and even replicate files and directories in hdfs but as soon as i restart my linux and try to connect to hdfs the same problem comes up. How can I avoid having to change the version number every time I compile this? Can I specify the extension in code somewhere?

  I am attempting to create a strongly typed view with a "MVC View User Control" that is being rendered using Html.RenderPartial(). The top of my ascx file looks like this: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<System.Collections.IEnumerable<string>>" %> There is nothing else on this page, currently. When I execute the app and load the page that renders this control, I get the following error: Could not load type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<System.Collections.IEnumerable<string>>'. So, then I simplified it: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<String>" %> And then, just in case it needed to be fully qualified: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<System.String>" %> Everytime I get the same error (substituting type). what am I doing wrong here? I'm on .NET 3.5 with ASP.NET MVC 1.0 RTM.

• asp.net connection reset with long running process

  In an asp.net web form, I keep getting a connection reset error message. The page is doing a some long running processing (about 2-5 minutes). I have no problem when the web request comes from the same machine as the web server. But when the request originates across the network, I get a connection reset error about 1:30 or 2 minutes into waiting for a response. I have set the in web.config for this application and put the application it's own application pool. What else can I try?

• Change the default SqlCommand CommandTimeout with configuration rather than recompile?

  I am supporting an ASP.Net 3.5 web application and users are experiencing a timeout error after 30 seconds when trying to run a report. Looking around the web it seems it's easy enough to change the timeout in the code, unfortunately I'm not able to access the code and recompile. • Javascript - jquery ajax post error driving me mad

  Can't seem to figure this one out. I have a web service defined as (c#,.net) [WebMethod] public string SubmitOrder(string sessionid, string lang,int invoiceno,string email,string emailcc) { //do stuff. return stuff; } Which works fine, when I test it from the autogenerated test thingy in Vstudio. But when I call it from jquery as $j.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/wservice/baby.asmx/SubmitOrder", data: "{'sessionid' : '"+sessionid+"',"+ "'lang': '"+usersettings.Currlang+"',"+ "'invoiceno': '"+invoicenr+"',"+ "'email':'"+$j(orderids.txtOIEMAIL).val()+"',"+ "'emailcc':'"+$j(orderids.txtOICC).val()+"'}", contenttype: "application/json; charset=utf-8", datatype: "json", success: function (msg) { submitordercallback(msg); }, error: AjaxFailed }); I get this fun error: responseText: System.InvalidOperationException: Missing parameter: sessionid. at System.Web.Services.Protocols.ValueCollectionParameterReader.Read(NameValueCollection collection) at System.Web.Services.Protocols.HtmlFormParameterReader.Read(HttpRequest request) at System.Web.Services.Protocols.HttpServerProtocol.ReadParameters() at System.Web.Services.Protocols.WebServiceHandler.CoreProcessRequest() data evaluates to: {'sessionid' : 'f61f8da737c046fea5633e7ec1f706dd','lang': 'SE','invoiceno': '11867','email':'[email protected]','emailcc':''} Ok, fair enough, but this function from jquery communicates fine with another webservice. • How do I use VS2010 One-Click Publish (MsDeploy) to deploy remotely from the command line?

  On the remote web server I have installed the remote service http://x.x.x.x/MsDeployAgentService. If I use the Web Application Project's Publish command in VS2010 I can successfully publish to this remote web server and update a specific IIS website. What I want to do now is execute this capability from the command line. I am guessing it is two steps. First build the web application project using the relevant build configuration: msbuild "C:\MyApplication\MyWebApplication.csproj" /T:Package /P:Configuration=Release Then issue the MsDeploy command to have it publish/sync with the remove IIS server: msdeploy -verb:sync -source:package="C:\MyApplication\obj\Release\Package\MyWebApplication.zip" -dest:contentPath="My Production Website", computerName=http://x.x.x.x/MsDeployAgentService, username=adminuser,password=adminpassword Unfortunately I get an the error: Error: (10/05/2010 3:52:02 PM) An error occurred when the request was processed on the remote computer. Error: Source (sitemanifest) and destination (contentPath) are not compatible for the given operation. Error count: 1. I have tried a number of different combinations for destination provider but no joy :( Has anyone managed to replicate VS2010 Web Application Project "One Click" Publish from the command line?
