  At start up after my dell BIOS load i get the puprle screen and then a black screen and this at the top "[9783] Support for cores revisions 0x17 and 0x18 disabled by module... " sorry i think there's more to it and that's probably crucial but it goes SO fast sometimes and sometimes slower... I just wiped my laptop and installed 13.10 over it and ticked LVM at installation and log in automatically, idk if that would make a difference here... Any way i found someone else on Arch Linux had the same problem but I don't know how to solve it. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=170588 Anyone know what this might be?   I would like to switch from a 5 day week to a 4 day, but maintain a 40 hour working week. Would the 10 hour days affect your ability to be productive? I hate our public transit system so if I could reduce my transportation by 20% I would be glad.   Ubuntu on my laptop has frozen multiple times in last 6-7 months. Its not frequent but I can not relate the freezing to anything which I was doing. Today it froze again when I was taking notes in class - approximately at 12:00 PM. During the freeze both mouse and keyboard stopped working. I tried Alt-Ctrl-F1, Alt-Ctrl-F2 etc without any success. After that I waited few minutes & then I restarted the laptop. I checked /var/log/syslog and /var/log/kern.log and it seems that it did not log anything (I was not able to understand most of it). Please let me know if you can find something unusual at around 12:00 PM. Is there any other log which might be useful? Here are the /var/log/syslog and /var/log/kern.log files.

• Cant burn the iso file on disc and usb will not startup

  I am having very big problems trying to get this going for my old laptop. I tried burning the iso image with 5 different iso burning programs and none of the disks worked none started up. Then I tried to do the USB way used the program that puts it on the usb for you it starts up on my laptop fine but will not start up on my compaq presario 2178cl. If any1 can help me with this problem I would be much appreciative ty for your time.

I also want to use Window7. So, which one will be better on parallel booting of Window 7 and Ubuntu or using VMWare on Window7 to install Ubuntu. My RAM is 4G. My processor speed is 1.6G. If I use VMWare, my C drive is only extra 10G. So, does VMWare can work properly in D drive? Please let me know which way is the best for my situation. I hope the advice from anyone.   as said in the title first of all i connected a usb key (ntfs formatted) with data in it, on ubuntu 12.04, after i disconnected it i was no more able to access the usb key neither from windows nor from ubuntu 12.04. The system asks me to format my usb key Just now i connected a hard drive ntfs formatted with data in it to ubuntu 12.04.   I am using Ubuntu 8.10 and want to upgrade it to 12.04. I have downloaded 12.04 from the Ubuntu site and burned as ISO image CD in a DVD (because it is 701.3MB). When I insert this DVD into my drive for installation, it does not boot. A blank black screen appears. In 8.10 when I click on update to 9.04 it shows some error. Ubuntu 8.10 is not as good as 12.04. Please friends help me to solve this problem. I want to install Ubuntu 12.04 in my pc.
