  Trying to migrate data from C: to D: via the SBS console is failing. The wizard starts running but drops out in the first few seconds.   Is anyone aware of an org-sort function / modification that can refile / organize a group of TODO so that it sorts them by three (3) criteria: first sort by due date, second sort by priority, and third sort by by title of the task? EDIT: I believe that org-sort by deadline (?d) has a bug that cannot properly handle undated tasks. I am working on a workaround (i.e., moving the undated todo to a different heading before the deadline (?d) sort occurs), but perhaps the best thing to do would be to try and fix the original sorting function.   I am using Ubuntu 12.04 as a desktop and recently had a weird crash with the log file for cups filling up the entire drive and not letting me back in, also what changed was /var/lib/sudo had changed from root to peter (me) I didn't make this change - I checked the history! I set the sudoers back to root and capped the max size for cups log Anyone had a similar experience? • Apache + Codeigniter + New Server + Unexpected Errors

  Alright here is the situation: I use to have my codeigniter site at bluehost were I did not have root access, I have since moved that site to rackspace. I have not changed any of the PHP code yet there has been some unexpected behavior. Unexpected Behavior: http://mysite.com/robots.txt Both old and new resolve to the robots file http://mysite.com/robots.txt/ The old bluehost setup resolves to my codeigniter 404 error page. The rackspace config resolves to: Not Found The requested URL /robots.txt/ was not found on this server. **This instance leads me to believe that there could be a problem with my mod rewrites or lack there of. The first one produces the error correctly through php while it seems the second senario lets the server handle this error. The next instance of this problem is even more troubling: 'http://mysite.com/search/term/9 x 1-1%2F2 white/' New site results in: Bad Request Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand. Old site results in: The actual page being loaded and the search term being unencoded. I have to assume that this has something to do with the fact that when I went to the new server I went from root level htaccess file to httpd.conf file and virtual server default and default-ssl.   I have server A with an IP address only and a dummy FQDN (on the basis all machines should have a FQDN): pants.net.invalid. All mail is relayed through another server elsewhere, which works fine. On server A, Postfix rewrites the sender address with smtp_generic_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/generic. According to the Rewrite manual at http://www.postfix.org/ADDRESS_REWRITING_README.html#remote, this should rewrite all outgoing external mail's Sender address: $ cat /etc/postfix/generic @pants.net.invalid [email protected] but it does not. postmap -q [email protected] returns nothing. This works: [email protected] [email protected] It seems as though it is doing regex matching even though I specify type hash:. Clearly I am misunderstanding the manual. I don't want to use regex or pcre expressions because there are only a couple of users (root and two others) and I don't want the overhead. I can specify the users exactly and it works. But, I would like to know what I am misunderstanding for future reference. Thanks.

  Hello all, I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed and used to dual-boot Fedora, but I replaced Fedora with Pardus. After the install, I went into ubuntu, and did a sudo update-grub. It detected my Pardus 2011 install there. When I rebooted, it did not show up in my grub2 menu however. I went back to Ubuntu and did it again...then checked the grub.cfg, and it is not there. I have read that Pardus uses a grub legacy. How can I get Pardus into my grub2 menu? Everytime I try to upload it using the importer, it got cut of... meaning just blank screen result..   Hi all, I'm having some odd memory issues with my build. Here are my specs right now: QDI Superb 4 motherboard Intel Pentium 4 Northwood 2.4GHz (512KB L2, 533MHz FSB) 3x 256MB PC2100 DDR266 RAM 16MB NVIDIA TNT2 Pro AGP Seagate 80GB IDE HDD Generic USB 2.0 PCI Generic Modem PCI Bestec 250W PSU To be even more specific, here are the current brands and models of each module: Kingston KVR266X64C25/256 Samsung PC2100U-25331-Z SMART SM5643285D4N0CHM0H Supposedly, they are all PC2100 266MHz modules with a latency of 2.5. Looking in Speccy, the Kingston module is somehow running at a speed of PC2300 ~284MHz. I've never overclocked RAM at all as I don't know how to. However, when I first started the computer, I had the SMART module in place first and then reset the BIOS settings, including the integrated overclocking options. However, this still doesn't explain why the Kingston module runs at a higher speed than the SMART and Samsung module. Why is it like this? On a side note, where could I find the motherboard manual for the QDI Superb 4? Thanks in advance.

• Postfix: Modify sender address based on recipient

  We have a Postfix server that receives mail from our application servers. Senders are in the form [email protected] (where host.fqdn can vary, depending on source server) and recipients can be internal or external users. Messages going to external users should have the sender changed to [email protected]. I have tried using canonical maps, but since that is handled by the cleanup daemon, before any transport decisions are made, it would affect all sender addresses. I have also tried creating a custom smtp transport with generic mappings and configuring transport_maps to use that custom smtp transport for external domains. However, generic mappings affect both sender and recipient addresses. Lastly, I've tried the following: Create a custom smtpd daemon that specifies sender canonical maps and a unique transport table. Send all externally addressed mail to that custom daemon. Ideally, sender canonical maps would transform the sender address and the unique transport table would relay messages to the internet. However, evidently, only one transport table can be used per Postfix instance. I want to avoid creating an entirely new Postfix instance to accommodate this rewriting. Any suggestions? • Sync OneNote Notebooks to/on SkyDrive

  I've got OneNote running on all computers in our house, using it all the time with several people and computers. The only drawback: I want to keep the copies of OneNote in sync without having to run a dedicated server myself. Right now one of my computers has a folder share, where all others sync to, but this is highly impractical since the computer is not always running. So my question is: is it possible to put the notebook files on a (private) SkyDrive Folder and have all the computers sync to there? This way all computers could keep in sync whenever they got access to the web. Can this be done? and, of course, How? [Update] Maybe I should not have taken knowledge about OneNote as granted: OneNote uses a propietary file format, but has a very good in-file-syncing, working on network shares. Generic 'just sync the complete file' won't be useful at all, because I'd just have 'file has changed on server and on client' conflicts all the time. The sync needs to know OneNote files and be able to sync the content - eg. OneNote itself needs to sync the files, not some generic sync tool.

• Dual-booting Ubuntu and Pardus with GRUB2...Pardus no show?

  I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed and used to dual-boot Fedora, but I replaced Fedora with Pardus. After the install, I went into ubuntu, and did a sudo update-grub. It detected my Pardus 2011 install there. When I rebooted, it did not show up in my grub2 menu however. I went back to Ubuntu and did it again...then checked the grub.cfg, and it is not there. I have read that Pardus uses a grub legacy. How can I get Pardus into my grub2 menu? • In Icinga (Nagios), how do I configure hosts with multiple IPs?

  I'm setting up Icinga (Nagios fork) and I have some machines with multiple interfaces. Some services are only listening on one of them and to check them correctly, I like to know if it's possible to have multiple IP addresses configured for a single host in Icinga. Here's a minimal example: Remote Server: eth0: 1.2.3.4 (public IP) eth1: 10.1.2.3 (private IP, secure tunnel) Apache listening on 1.2.3.4:80. (public only) OpenSSH listening on 10.1.2.3:22. (internal network only) Postfix SMTP listening on 0.0.0.0:25 (all interfaces) Icinga Server: eth0: 10.2.3.4 (private IP, internet access) Now if I define a host: define host { use generic-host host_name server1 alias server1.gertvandijk.net address 10.1.2.3 } This will not check the HTTP status correctly. And defining an additional host: define host { use generic-host host_name server1-public alias server1.gertvandijk.net address 1.2.3.4 } will check everything, but shows up as two independent hosts. Now I want to 'aggregate' these two hosts to show up as a single host, yet providing an easy configuration to check the services on their proper address. What is the most elegant number-of-configuration-lines-saving solution to this? I read about several plugins available to workaround this, but I can't figure out what is the current way to address it. Solutions go back to 2003, but I'm running Icinga 1.7.1, already capable of the address6 option, yet that triggers IPv6-only resolving on the hostname... Ideally, I wish to configure Icinga to be intelligent enough to know that the Postfix instance running on 10.1.2.3:25 is the same as 1.2.3.4:25 and thus not triggering two alarms. I guess this must have been tackled before and sysadmins have it set up now. Please share your solution to this. Thanks! :)

• Retrieve a user's Exchange database in powershell

  Hey Everyone, I've scoured the interwebs for a few days now off and on to find this. I am creating a powershell script for email-enabling new user's(Exchange 2007). To give you a little background when we have a new hire, their AD account is created at our off-site helpdesk, but they don't create their email account. I'm trying to automate the process of mail-enabling the user which involves putting them in the same database as an existing user, disable imap pop activesync, and lastly email the requester of the ticket. I would like to just get prompted for the New User's name, User to Replicate(mailbox, storage group, database), and the person to email after it's been created. So if someone could just help with a command to Retrieve a user's Exchange database in powershell that would be great, but if people also want to help with my hacked up script please do so as well!!! • Exchange 2003: Accounts with only OWA access unable to change passwords when expired or forced

  We have accounts whith only OWA access, because they are generic accounts and we do not want the accounts to be used as machine logins. We have a password policy that users must change their passwords every 6 months. The problem we are having is that since the accounts are not loging into the machines, when the password policy kicks in it is preventing users with OWA only access from changing their password. Also, when we select "User must change the password at next logon" it also causes the same issue. We have two exchange servers the main one and a front end one. what we have been doing with these generic account is in properties, under the "account" tab we restricted "log on to" to the front end server. Just to clarify, when we have no restrictions, users can change their passwords via the web without any issues. It is only when we force them to only login via OWA that they cant change passwords. I tried adding our domain controler and main exchange server to the "This user can log on to The following computers" in the account tab, but still it is not allowing them to change passwords. Currently I have to manually reset the passwords for OWA only accounts. Is there anyway to allow OWA acconts to change passwords? EDIT: Users restricted to only OWA can change their password via the web browser without any issues when there are no restrictions. In other words normally they can just log into outlook via the web and change their password, but when the password policy expires or we force them to change their password at next login, they are unable to.

• Windows 7 32bit resolution is limited for HDTV monitor

  I have a small Magnavox HDTV that i am using to test a Frankenstein PC build. The goal is to eventually connect to my old rear projection HDTV which supports 1080i via component input. The goal is also not to buy anymore stuff, otherwise i will just buy a smartTV and be done. I have a ATI Radeon HD 3450 with component out adapter YPrPb. The monitor supports 1080p, but over analog component out, should only go upto 1080i. I have had this working with another setup. On this particular setup, i have Windows 7 32bit, with the latest 12.8 catalyst drivers installed. the windows splash screen starts in 480p, then switches to 480i when the login prompt is shown. When try to change the resolution, 720x480 is the maximum value of the slider. I have also tried the "list all modes" and that also maxes out at 720x480. There are two options for this monitor in the devices seciton, Generic PNP monitor, and Generic non-PNP monitor. Neither setting fixes this. Any ideas on how to get 1080i?

• Better urls for this internal web server?

  I've got a server that I have admin access to, but don't fully manage. (I think it's a virtual machine, but I'm not 100% sure. It's running Apache on Windows Server 2003.) I share the ip with another user, so my sites all have to use the :8080 port. This is kind of ugly. Also, AFAIK, the only access I have is through an ip address. (I'm inside a corporate firewall and don't think I have access to a DNS server or anything.) I've adjusted my hosts file so I don't have to use the ip address on my local machine, but that's not a very generic solution. Are there any options to 1) get rid of the port requirement 2) be able to use a name (maybe a machine name) instead of the ip address in a generic way? (I'm not really a network admin -- I'm a developer managing this machine. The IT folks who really manage it are a few people away from me and tough to get to do anything, so I'm looking for a light-weight solution if possible.)

• BNF – how to read syntax?

  A few days ago I read post of Jen McCown (blog) about her idea of blogging about random articles from Books Online. I think this is a great idea, even if Jen says that it’s not exciting or sexy. I noticed that many of the questions that appear on forums and other media arise from pure fact that people asking questions didn’t bother to read and understand the manual – Books Online. Jen came up with a brilliant, concise acronym that describes very well the category of posts about Books Online – RTFM365. I take liberty of tagging this post with the same acronym. I often come across questions of type – ‘Hey, i am trying to create a table, but I am getting an error’. The error often says that the syntax is invalid. 1 CREATE TABLE dbo.Employees 2 (guid uniqueidentifier CONSTRAINT DEFAULT Guid_Default NEWSEQUENTIALID() ROWGUIDCOL, 3 Employee_Name varchar(60) 4 CONSTRAINT Guid_PK PRIMARY KEY (guid) ); 5 The answer is usually(1), ‘Ok, let me check it out.. Ah yes – you have to put name of the DEFAULT constraint before the type of constraint: 1 CREATE TABLE dbo.Employees 2 (guid uniqueidentifier CONSTRAINT Guid_Default DEFAULT NEWSEQUENTIALID() ROWGUIDCOL, 3 Employee_Name varchar(60) 4 CONSTRAINT Guid_PK PRIMARY KEY (guid) ); Why many people stumble on syntax errors? Is the syntax poorly documented? No, the issue is, that correct syntax of the CREATE TABLE statement is documented very well in Books Online and is.. intimidating. Many people can be taken aback by the rather complex block of code that describes all intricacies of the statement. However, I don’t know better way of defining syntax of the statement or command. The notation that is used to describe syntax in Books Online is a form of Backus-Naur notatiion, called BNF for short sometimes. This is a notation that was invented around 50 years ago, and some say that even earlier, around 400 BC – would you believe? Originally it was used to define syntax of, rather ancient now, ALGOL programming language (in 1950’s, not in ancient India). If you look closer at the definition of the BNF, it turns out that the principles of this syntax are pretty simple. Here are a few bullet points: italic_text is a placeholder for your identifier <italic_text_in_angle_brackets> is a definition which is described further. [everything in square brackets] is optional {everything in curly brackets} is obligatory everything | separated | by | operator is an alternative ::= “assigns” definition to an identifier Yes, it looks like these six simple points give you the key to understand even the most complicated syntax definitions in Books Online. Books Online contain an article about syntax conventions – have you ever read it? Let’s have a look at fragment of the CREATE TABLE statement: 1 CREATE TABLE 2 [ database_name . [ schema_name ] . | schema_name . ] table_name 3 ( { <column_definition> | <computed_column_definition> 4 | <column_set_definition> } 5 [ <table_constraint> ] [ ,...n ] ) 6 [ ON { partition_scheme_name ( partition_column_name ) | filegroup 7 | "default" } ] 8 [ { TEXTIMAGE_ON { filegroup | "default" } ] 9 [ FILESTREAM_ON { partition_scheme_name | filegroup 10 | "default" } ] 11 [ WITH ( <table_option> [ ,...n ] ) ] 12 [ ; ] Let’s look at line 2 of the above snippet: This line uses rules 3 and 5 from the list. So you know that you can create table which has specified one of the following. just name – table will be created in default user schema schema name and table name – table will be created in specified schema database name, schema name and table name – table will be created in specified database, in specified schema database name, .., table name – table will be created in specified database, in default schema of the user. Note that this single line of the notation describes each of the naming schemes in deterministic way. The ‘optionality’ of the schema_name element is nested within database_name.. section. You can use either database_name and optional schema name, or just schema name – this is specified by the pipe character ‘|’. The error that user gets with execution of the first script fragment in this post is as follows: Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 2 Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'DEFAULT'. Ok, let’s have a look how to find out the correct syntax. Line number 3 of the BNF fragment above contains reference to <column_definition>. Since column_definition is in angle brackets, we know that this is a reference to notion described further in the code. It says, that the column can have a DEFAULT constraint which, if you want to name it, has to be prepended with [CONSTRAINT constraint_name] sequence. The name of the constraint is optional, but I strongly recommend you to make the effort of coming up with some meaningful name yourself.
