Convert.ToDateTime causes FormatException on afternoon date/time values

We have an application parsing date/time values in the following format: 2009-10-10 09:19:12.124 2009-10-10 12:13:14.852 2009-10-10 13:00:00 2009-10-10 15:23:32.022 One particular server all of the sudden (today) started failing to parse any times 13:00:00 or later. This particular client has five servers and only one has the problem. We have dozens of other clients with a total of hundreds of servers without the problem. System.FormatException: String was not recognized as a valid DateTime. at System.DateTimeParse.Parse(String s, DateTimeFormatInfo dtfi, DateTimeStyles styles) at System.DateTime.Parse(String s, IFormatProvider provider) at System.Convert.ToDateTime(String value, IFormatProvider provider) at System.String.System.IConvertible.ToDateTime(IFormatProvider provider) at System.Convert.ToDateTime(Object value) I ran a test using DateTime.Parse(s, CultureInfo.CurrentCulture) comapred to DateTime.Parse(s, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture) and the problem only shows up with CurrentCulture. However, CurrentCulture is "en-US" just like all the other servers and there's nothing different that I can find in regional or language settings. Has anyone seen this before? Suggestions related to what I can look into? EDIT: Thank you for the answers so far. However, I'm looking for suggestions on what configuration to look into that could have caused this to suddenly change behavior and stop working when it's worked for years and works on hundreds of other servers. I've already changed it for the next version, but I'm looking for a configuration change to fix this in the interim for the current installation.

Visual studio not detecting that exe is out of date after perforce revert

This is a bit of an odd situation. Here's what's happening. So, we have a VS2008 project which outputs to a number of files under perforce control. These files have the always writable flag set. I compile the project in VS, which gives me up to date binaries on my machine. If I then revert those binaries via perforce, I have the version of the binaries that were up on perforce (ie, old ones.) Despite this, compiling the project again at this point detects no changes and will not remake those binaries. In a way, this makes sense, since none of the code or obj files have changed, but it's not really what I want to happen. This comes up in an edge case on our automated build server. I can think of tons of different little hacks I could do to fix this, but I'm thinking I could be missing something fundamental here. The actual build process uses the Unreal build tool, so there is a bit of magic going on behind the scenes that I'm not entirely familiar with too. Edit: This is a C/C++ project, forgot to mention that.

Sort and limit queryset by comment count and date using queryset.extra() (django)

I am trying to sort/narrow a queryset of objects based on the number of comments each object has as well as by the timeframe during which the comments were posted. Am using a queryset.extra() method (using django_comments which utilizes generic foreign keys). I got the idea for using queryset.extra() (and the code) from here. This is a follow-up question to my initial question yesterday (which shows I am making some progress). Current Code: What I have so far works in that it will sort by the number of comments; however, I want to extend the functionality and also be able to pass a time frame argument (eg, 7 days) and return an ordered list of the most commented posts in that time frame. I want to add a variable for every 4 days, and for every round of fixtures generated, I want to add 4 days onto the previous round. For example, if today is 3rd may, i want 3rd may for first fixture, 7th may for second fixture, 11th may for third fixture. By fixture i mean round which includes a set of fixtures!

Merging sql queries to get different results by date

I am trying to build a 'recent events' feed and can't seem to get either my query correct, or figure out how to possible merge the results from two queries to sort them by date. One table holds games/, and another table holds the actions of these games/. I am trying to get the recent events to show users 1) the actions taken on games that are publicly visible (published) 2) when a new game is created and published. So, my actions table has actionId, gameid, userid, actiontype, lastupdate My games table has gameid, startDate, createdby, published, lastupdate I currently have a query like this (simplified for easy understanding I hope). SELECT actionId, actions.gameid, userid, actiontype, actions.lastupdate FROM actions JOIN ( SELECT games.gameid, startDate, createdby, published, games.lastupdate FROM games WHERE published=1 AND lastupdate>today-2 ) publishedGames on actions.gameid=games.gameid WHERE actions.type IN (0,4,5,6,7) AND actions.lastupdate>games.lastupdate and published=1 OR games.lastupdate>today-2 AND published=1 This query is looking for actions from published games where the action took place after the game was published. That pretty much takes care of the first thing that needs to be shown. However, I also need to get the results of the SELECT games.gameid, startDate, createdby, published, games.lastupdate FROM games WHERE published=1 AND startDate>today-2 so I can include in the actions list, when a new game has been published. When I run the query as I've got it written, I get all the actionids, and their gameids, but I don't get a row which shows the gameid when it was published. I understand that it may be possible that I need to run two seperate queries, and then somehow merge the results afterword with php, but I'm completely lost on where to start with that as well.

I have an array in this format: Array ( [0] => Array ( [28th February, 2009] => 'bla' ) [1] => Array ( [19th March, 2009] => 'bla' ) [2] => Array ( [5th April, 2009] => 'bla' ) [3] => Array ( [19th April, 2009] => 'bla' ) [4] => Array ( [2nd May, 2009] => 'bla' ) ) I want to sort them out in the ascending order of the dates (based on the month, day, and year). What's the best way to do that? Originally the emails are being fetched in the MySQL date format, so its possible for me to get the array in this state: Array [ ['2008-02-28']='some text', ['2008-03-06']='some text' ] Perhaps when its in this format, I can loop through them, remove all the '-' (hyphen) marks so they are left as integars, sort them using array_sort() and loop through them yet again to sort them? Would prefer if there was another way as I'd be doing 3 loops with this per user. Thanks. bash: listing files in date order, with spaces in filenames

I am starting with a file containing a list of hundreds of files (full paths) in a random order. I would like to list the details of the ten latest files in that list. This is my naive attempt: ls -las -t `cat list-of-files.txt` | head -10 That works, so long as none of the files have spaces in, but fails if they do as those files are split up at the spaces and treated as separate files. I have tried quoting the files in the original list-of-files file, but the here-document still splits the files up at the spaces in the filenames. The only way I can think of doing this, is to ls each file individually (using xargs perhaps) and create an intermediate file with the file listings and the date in a sortable order as the first field in each line, then sort that intermediate file. However, that feels a bit cumbersome and inefficient (hundreds of ls commands rather than one or two). But that may be the only way to do it? Is there any way to pass "ls" a list of files to process, where those files could contain spaces - it seems like it should be simple, but I'm stumped.

In order to learn django i am bulding an app that basically keeps track of booked items. What I would like to do is to show how many days per month for a selected year one item has been booked. i have the following models: Asset(Model) BookedAsset(Model): asset = models.ForeignKey(Asset) startdate = models.DateField() enddate = models.DateField() So having the following entries: asset 1, 2010-02-11, 2010-02-13 asset 2, 2010-03-12, 2010-03-14 asset 1, 2010-04-30, 2010-05-01 I would like to get returned the following: asset 1 asset 2 ------- ------- Jan = 0 Jan = 0 Feb = 2 Feb = 0 Mar = 0 Mar = 2 Apr = 1 Apr = 0 May = 1 May = 0 Jun = 0 Jun = 0 Jul = 0 Jul = 0 Aug = 0 Aug = 0 Sep = 0 Sep = 0 Oct = 0 Oct = 0 Nov = 0 Nov = 0 Dec = 0 Dec = 0 I know i need to first get the number of days in a date range (and keep track if they fall out of the current month and into the next month) and then do an agregate on the number of days. How to get Rid of this strange Border on JButton in Windows System look and Feel?

I have a small Problem with the Layout of my Frame. As You could see in a picture (if i would have my 10 rep ;) ) there is a small Border around my JButtons. I'm already searching long time on this topic and i finally decided to ask for help, i'm just out of ideas. Is this Part of the Windows Theme which shouldn't be changed? It just doesnt fit into my current Layout, as I'm Listing TextBoxes and Comboboxes on Page Axis without any Border. I would be very happy if there is solution for this issue. Thanks in advance! Quite honestly I'm finding it very difficult to come up with a solution, and I'd appreciate any help.

I wish I could retrieve the following : 2012-01-01 00:00:00 1 2012-01-01 01:00:00 1 2012-01-01 02:00:00 0 2012-01-01 03:00:00 2 2012-01-01 04:00:00 0 2012-01-01 05:00:00 0 . . 2012-01-07 23:00:00 0 I mean that for each time range slot, I count the number of lines in my table whose date correspond, otherwise, I return a line with a count at zero. The following will definitely not work (will yeld only lines with counted lines 0). SELECT extract ( hour from date_event ),count(*) FROM views where date_event > '2012-01-01' and date_event <'2012-01-07' GROUP BY extract ( hour from date_event ); Please note I might also need to group by minute, or by hour, or by day, or by month, or by year (multiple queries is possible of course). Everything went fine until I try to share a custom collection (with custom business logic) implementing INotifyCollectionChanged. This modification has been made in the .NET Framework 4 (see https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/488607/move-inotifycollectionchanged-to-system-dll) so maybe it could be done in Silverlight too. Faceted search with Solr on Windows

With over 10 million hits a day, funda.nl is probably the largest ASP.NET website which uses Solr on a Windows platform. While all our data (i.e. real estate properties) is stored in SQL Server, we're using Solr 1.4.1 to return the faceted search results as fast as we can.And yes, Solr is very fast. We did do some heavy stress testing on our Solr service, which allowed us to do over 1,000 req/sec on a single 64-bits Solr instance; and that's including converting search-url's to Solr http-queries and deserializing Solr's result-XML back to .NET objects! Let me tell you about faceted search and how to integrate Solr in a .NET/Windows environment. I'll bet it's easier than you think :-) What is faceted search? Faceted search is the clustering of search results into categories, allowing users to drill into search results. By showing the number of hits for each facet category, users can easily see how many results match that category. If you're still a bit confused, this example from CNET explains it all: The SQL solution for faceted search Our ("pre-Solr") solution for faceted search was done by adding a lot of redundant columns to our SQL tables and doing a COUNT(...) for each of those columns: So if a user was searching for real estate properties in the city 'Amsterdam', our facet-query would be something like: SELECT COUNT(hasGarden), COUNT(has2Bathrooms), COUNT(has3Bathrooms), COUNT(etc...) FROM Houses WHERE city = 'Amsterdam' While this solution worked fine for a couple of years, it wasn't very easy for developers to add new facets. And also, performing COUNT's on all matched rows only performs well if you have a limited amount of rows in a table (i.e. less than a million). Enter Solr "Solr is an open source enterprise search server based on the Lucene Java search library, with XML/HTTP and JSON APIs, hit highlighting, faceted search, caching, replication, and a web administration interface." (quoted from Wikipedia's page on Solr) Solr isn't a database, it's more like a big index. Every time you upload data to Solr, it will analyze the data and create an inverted index from it (like the index-pages of a book). This way Solr can lookup data very quickly. To explain the inner workings of Solr is beyond the scope of this post, but if you want to learn more, please visit the Solr Wiki pages. This tutorial really only takes 1 hour, in which you install Solr, upload sample data and get some query results. And yes, it works on Windows without a problem. Note that in the Solr tutorial, you're using Jetty as a Java Servlet Container (that's why you must start it using "java -jar start.jar"). In our environment we prefer to use Apache Tomcat to host Solr, which installs like a Windows service and works more like .NET developers expect. See the SolrTomcat page.Some best practices for running Solr on Windows: Use the 64-bits version of Tomcat. In our tests, this doubled the req/sec we were able to handle!Use a .NET XmlReader to convert Solr's XML output-stream to .NET objects. Don't use XPath; it won't scale well.Use filter queries ("fq" parameter) instead of the normal "q" parameter where possible. Filter queries are cached by Solr and will speed up Solr's response time (see FilterQueryGuidance)In my next post I’ll talk about how to keep Solr's indexed data in sync with the data in your SQL tables. Pure Server-Side Filtering with RadGridView and WCF RIA Services

Those of you who are familiar with WCF RIA Services know that the DomainDataSource control provides a FilterDescriptors collection that enables you to filter data returned by the query on the server. We have been using this DomainDataSource feature in our RIA Services with DomainDataSource online example for almost an year now. In the example, we are listening for RadGridViews Filtering event in order to intercept any filtering that is performed on the client and translate it to something that the DomainDataSource will understand, in this case a System.Windows.Data.FilterDescriptor being added or removed from its FilterDescriptors collection. Think of RadGridView.FilterDescriptors as client-side filtering and of DomainDataSource.FilterDescriptors as server-side filtering. We no longer need the client-side one. With the introduction of the Custom Filtering Controls feature many new possibilities have opened. With these custom controls we no longer need to do any filtering on the client. I have prepared a very small project that demonstrates how to filter solely on the server by using a custom filtering control. As I have already mentioned filtering on the server is done through the FilterDescriptors collection of the DomainDataSource control. This collection holds instances of type System.Windows.Data.FilterDescriptor. The FilterDescriptor has three important properties: PropertyPath: Specifies the name of the property that we want to filter on (the left operand). Operator: Specifies the type of comparison to use when filtering. An instance of FilterOperator Enumeration. Value: The value to compare with (the right operand). An instance of the Parameter Class. By adding filters, you can specify that only entities which meet the condition in the filter are loaded from the domain context. In case you are not familiar with these concepts you might find Brad Abrams blog interesting. Now, our requirements are to create some kind of UI that will manipulate the DomainDataSource.FilterDescriptors collection. When it comes to collections, my first choice of course would be RadGridView. If you are not familiar with the Custom Filtering Controls concept I would strongly recommend getting acquainted with my step-by-step tutorial Custom Filtering with RadGridView for Silverlight and checking the online example out. I have created a simple custom filtering control that contains a RadGridView and several buttons. This control is aware of the DomainDataSource instance, since it is operating on its FilterDescriptors collection. In fact, the RadGridView that is inside it is bound to this collection. In order to display filters that are relevant for the current column only, I have applied a filter to the grid. This filter is a Telerik.Windows.Data.FilterDescriptor and is used to filter the little grid inside the custom control. It should not be confused with the DomainDataSource.FilterDescriptors collection that RadGridView is actually bound to. These are the RIA filters. Additionally, I have added several other features. For example, if you have specified a DataFormatString on your original column, the Value column inside the custom control will pick it up and format the filter values accordingly. Also, I have transferred the data type of the column that you are filtering to the Value column of the custom control. This will help the little RadGridView determine what kind of editor to show up when you begin edit, for example a date picker for DateTime columns. Finally, I have added four buttons two of them can be used to add or remove filters and the other two will communicate the changes you have made to the server. Here is the full source code of the DomainDataSourceFilteringControl. If the DomainDataSource has some pre-existing filters (like I have created in the code above), our control will read them and will populate its UI accordingly. Even the filtering funnel will light-up! Remember, the funnel is controlled by the IsActive property of our control. While this is just a basic implementation, the source code is absolutely yours and you can take it from here and extend it to match your specific business requirements.
