  • Reading Serial Data From C (OSX /dev/tty)

    - by Jud Stephenson
    I am trying to read data from a bluetooth barcode scanner (KDC300) using C. Here is the code I have so far, and the program successfully establishes a bluetooth connection to the scanner, but when a barcode is scanned, no input is displayed on the screen (Eventually more will be done with the data, but we have to get it working first, right). Here is the program: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <string.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <fcntl.h> #include <errno.h> #include <termios.h> #include <sys/ioctl.h> int main (int argc, const char * argv[]) { // define vars int STOP = 0; //char buf[255]; if(argv[1]) { int fd = open("/dev/tty.KDC1", O_RDONLY); if(fd == -1) { printf("%s", strcat("Unable to open /dev/tty.", argv[1])); } int res; while(STOP == 0) { while((res = read(fd,buf,255)) == 0); { if(res > 0) { buf[res]=0; printf("%s:%d\n", buf, res); if(buf[sizeof(buf)]=='\n') break; } } } } return 0; } If anyone has any ideas, I am at a loss on this so far. If it is any help, I can run screen /dev/tty.KDC1 and any barcodes scanned on the scanner appear in the terminal, I just can't do anything with the data. Jud

  • Letter placement error with GD2, TTF and PHP

    - by Javier Parra
    Some time ago I made a script that takes some text and returns it as an image, and worked flawlessly. But I'm not sure since when a weird bug started to happen. The letters that have a (my apologies to the font geeks) "glyph" on the left get pushed to the right so the letter starts on it, but leaves space only for the main letter, hehe, I think an example should do it. The expected result is: The "bad" one was generated, obviously, by my script, located here: http://www.esbasura.com/images/text.php?txt=The%20quick%20brown%20fox%20jumps%20over%20the%20lazy%20dog.&fnt=1&size=23&bg=lightgrey And the good one was generated by dafont here: http://img.dafont.com/preview.php?text=The%20quick%20brown%20fox%20jumps%20over%20the%20lazy%20dog.&ttf=bleeding_cowboys0&ext=1&size=23&psize=m&y=46 I'm not doing anything fancy in the script, here is the relevant part: imagefilledrectangle($im, 0, 0, $width, $height, $$bg); imagettftext($im, $size, 0, (-1*$textsize[6]), (-1*$textsize[7]), $$color, $font, $text); // imagefttext($im, $size, 0, (-1*$textsize[6]), (-1*$textsize[7]), $$color, $font, $text); same results using imagefttext imagecolortransparent($im, $$bg); header("Cache-Control: public"); // HTTP/1.1 header("Content-type: image/png"); imagepng($im); imagedestroy($im); } I'm kind of surprised, because, as I said, it used to work flawlessly. Maybe my host changed my machine. • Appending data to NSFetchedResultsController during find or create loop

    - by Justin Williams
    I have a table view that is managed by an NSFetchedResultsController. I am having an issue with a find-or-create operation, however. When the user hits the bottom of my table view, I am querying my server for another batch of content. If it doesn't exist in the local cache, we create it and store it. If it does exist, however, I want to append that data to the fetched results controller and display it. I can't quite figure that part out. Here's what I'm doing thus far: Passing the returned array of values from my server to an NSOperation to process. In the operation, create a new managed object context to work with. In the operation, I iterate through the array and execute a fetch request to see if the object exists (based on its server id). If the object doesn't exist, we create it and insert it into the operations' managed object context. After the iteration completes, we save the managed object context, which triggers a merge notification on my main thread. At this point, any objects that weren't locally cached in my Core Data store before will appear, but the ones that previously existed do not come along for the ride. I feel like it's something simple I'm missing, and could use a nudge in the right direction.

  • C#, finding the largest prime factor of a number

    - by Juan
    Hello! I am new at programming and I am practicing my C# programming skills. My application is meant to find the largest prime factor of a number entered by the user. But my application is not returning the right answer and I dont really know where the problem is. Can you please help me? using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace ConsoleApplication1 { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { Console.WriteLine("Calcular máximo factor primo de n. De 60 es 5."); Console.Write("Escriba un numero: "); long num = Convert.ToInt64(Console.ReadLine()); long mfp = maxfactor(num); Console.WriteLine("El maximo factor primo es: " + num); Console.Read(); } static private long maxfactor (long n) { long m=1 ; bool en= false; for (long k = n / 2; !en && k > 1; k--) { if (n % k == 0 && primo(k)) { m = k; en = true; } } return m; } static private bool primo(long x) { bool sp = true; for (long i = 2; i <= x / 2; i++) { if (x % i == 0) sp = false; } return sp; } } }

  • Why is an Add method required for { } initialization?

    - by Dan Tao
    To use initialization syntax like this: var contacts = new ContactList { { "Dan", "[email protected]" }, { "Eric", "[email protected]" } }; ...my understanding is that my ContactList type would need to define an Add method that takes two string parameters: public void Add(string name, string email); What's a bit confusing to me about this is that the { } initializer syntax seems most useful when creating read-only or fixed-size collections. After all it is meant to mimic the initialization syntax for an array, right? (OK, so arrays are not read-only; but they are fixed size.) And naturally it can only be used when the collection's contents are known (at least the number of elements) at compile-time. So it would almost seem that the main requirement for using this collection initializer syntax (having an Add method and therefore a mutable collection) is at odds with the typical case in which it would be most useful. I'm sure I haven't put as much thought into this matter as the C# design team; it just seems that there could have been different rules for this syntax that would have meshed better with its typical usage scenarios. Am I way off base here? Is the desire to use the { } syntax to initialize fixed-size collections not as common as I think? What other factors might have influenced the formulation of the requirements for this syntax that I'm simply not thinking of?

  • Qt Jambi: Accessing the content of QNetworkReply

    - by Richard
    Hi All, I'm having trouble accessing the content of QNetworkReply objects. Content appears to be empty or zero. According to the docs (translating from c++ to java) I think I've got this set up correctly, but to no avail. Additionally an "Unknown error" is being reported. Any ideas much appreciated. Code: public class Test extends QObject { private QWebPage page; public Test() { page = new QWebPage(); QNetworkAccessManager nac = new QNetworkAccessManager(); nac.finished.connect(this, "requestFinished(QNetworkReply)"); page.setNetworkAccessManager(nac); page.loadProgress.connect(this, "loadProgress(int)"); page.loadFinished.connect(this, "loadFinished()"); } public void requestFinished(QNetworkReply reply) { reply.reset(); reply.open(OpenModeFlag.ReadOnly); reply.readyRead.connect(this, "ready()"); // never gets called System.out.println("bytes: " + reply.url().toString()); // writes out asset uri no problem System.out.println("bytes: " + reply.bytesToWrite()); // 0 System.out.println("At end: " + reply.atEnd()); // true System.out.println("Error: " + reply.errorString()); // "Unknown error" } public void loadProgress(int progress) { System.out.println("Loaded " + progress + "%"); } public void loadFinished() { System.out.println("Done"); } public void ready() { System.out.println("Ready"); } public void open(String url) { page.mainFrame().load(new QUrl(url)); } public static void main(String[] args) { QApplication.initialize(new String[] { }); Test t = new Test(); t.open("http://news.bbc.co.uk"); QApplication.exec(); } }

  • Can't access CodeBase from a dynamically generated assembly.

    - by Michael Meadows
    I'm trying to create an assembly dynamically in .Net. I can't seem to figure out how to get the CodeBase property to return a value, however. Here's an example: var assemblyName = new AssemblyName { Name = "Whatever", CodeBase = Directory.GetCurrentDirectory() }; var assemblyBuilder = AppDomain.CurrentDomain .DefineDynamicAssembly(assemblyName, AssemblyBuilderAccess.RunAndSave); var moduleBuilder = assemblyBuilder.DefineDynamicModule("WhateverModule", "Whatever.dll"); var typeBuilder = moduleBuilder.DefineType("WhateverType", TypeAttributes.Public); var type = typeBuilder.CreateType(); assemblyBuilder.Save("Whatever.dll"); var codeBase = type.Assembly.CodeBase; // throws the below exception System.NotSupportedException was unhandled Message=The invoked member is not supported in a dynamic assembly. • Which Java Framework is best suited for a web application with reusable content/behavior

    - by Jacob
    I come from a .NET background and need to do a web project in Java. I have read a bit on all the different Java web frameworks out there: JSF, Stripes, Wicket, Tapestry etc. But I would like to hear from people with real-life expertise with these frameworks. Of course I want a framework that is up to date, supports AJAX, is cool and so on, but one of my main criteria is the ability to somehow create reusable components / tags. The customer needs to be able to move tags/components around without too much problem in order to customize it for their specific needs. In ASP.NET Webforms I would use custom controls and user controls for this, and in ASP.NET MVC I would use user controls as well as home made custom controls. So what Java frameworks excel in this? My own superficial research seems to conclude that JSF supports some kind of custom controls (Bear in mind i am not only talking about layout reuse, but also behavior reuse, so if for example the customer / client wants a customer list on page x and not only on page Y, he would simply put in a <jr:CustomerList runat="server" .... /> (fictional example with ASP.NET Webforms syntax)).

  • Pipe overwrites buffer, don't know how to overcome

    - by Kalec
    I use a simple pipe. • Project Euler (P14): recursion problems

    - by sean mcdaid
    Hi I'm doing the Collatz sequence problem in project Euler (problem 14). My code works with numbers below 100000 but with numbers bigger I get stack over-flow error. Is there a way I can re-factor the code to use tail recursion, or prevent the stack overflow. The code is below: import java.util.*; public class v4 { // use a HashMap to store computed number, and chain size static HashMap<Integer, Integer> hm = new HashMap<Integer, Integer>(); public static void main(String[] args) { hm.put(1, 1); final int CEILING_MAX=Integer.parseInt(args[0]); int len=1; int max_count=1; int max_seed=1; for(int i=2; i<CEILING_MAX; i++) { len = seqCount(i); if(len > max_count) { max_count = len; max_seed = i; } } System.out.println(max_seed+"\t"+max_count); } // find the size of the hailstone sequence for N public static int seqCount(int n) { if(hm.get(n) != null) { return hm.get(n); } if(n ==1) { return 1; } else { int length = 1 + seqCount(nextSeq(n)); hm.put(n, length); return length; } } // Find the next element in the sequence public static int nextSeq(int n) { if(n%2 == 0) { return n/2; } else { return n*3+1; } } }

  • UINavigationController flashes white when I add it to a superview

    - by Chris Stamper
    Hey guys, I'm adding a NavigationController as a subview of my main view, with the flip animation (like a utility app/flipview thing). Here's how I'm doing it: [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:.7]; [UIView setAnimationTransition:([self.tableController.view superview] ? UIViewAnimationTransitionFlipFromLeft : UIViewAnimationTransitionFlipFromRight) forView:self.tableHostView cache:YES]; [self.tableController.view removeFromSuperview]; settingsView* backView1 = [[settingsView alloc] initWithNibName:@"settingsView" bundle:nil]; backView1.delegate = self; UINavigationController* settingsNavStack = [[UINavigationController alloc]initWithRootViewController:backView1]; [backView1 release]; settingsNavStack.view.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 460); settingsNavStack.navigationItem.title = @"Settings"; [self setBackView:settingsNavStack]; [settingsNavStack release]; [self.tableHostView addSubview:self.backView.view]; [[self backView]setDelegate: self]; When it loads, the view comes in very nicely. However, the navigation bar stays white until like .2 secs after the animation finishes. Anyone know why the navigation bar wouldn't display right away?

  • Boost Spirit and Lex parser problem

    - by bpw1621
    I've been struggling to try and (incrementally) modify example code from the documentation but with not much different I am not getting the behavior I expect. Specifically, the "if" statement fails when (my intent is that) it should be passing (there was an "else" but that part of the parser was removed during debugging). The assignment statement works fine. I had a "while" statement as well which had the same problem as the "if" statement so I am sure if I can get help to figure out why one is not working it should be easy to get the other going. It must be kind of subtle because this is almost verbatim what is in one of the examples. #include <iostream> #include <fstream> #include <string> #define BOOST_SPIRIT_DEBUG #include <boost/config/warning_disable.hpp> #include <boost/spirit/include/qi.hpp> #include <boost/spirit/include/lex_lexertl.hpp> #include <boost/spirit/include/phoenix_operator.hpp> #include <boost/spirit/include/phoenix_statement.hpp> #include <boost/spirit/include/phoenix_container.hpp> namespace qi = boost::spirit::qi; namespace lex = boost::spirit::lex; inline std::string read_from_file( const char* infile ) { std::ifstream instream( infile ); if( !instream.is_open() ) { std::cerr << "Could not open file: \"" << infile << "\"" << std::endl; exit( -1 ); } instream.unsetf( std::ios::skipws ); return( std::string( std::istreambuf_iterator< char >( instream.rdbuf() ), std::istreambuf_iterator< char >() ) ); } template< typename Lexer > struct LangLexer : lex::lexer< Lexer > { LangLexer() { identifier = "[a-zA-Z][a-zA-Z0-9_]*"; number = "[-+]?(\\d*\\.)?\\d+([eE][-+]?\\d+)?"; if_ = "if"; else_ = "else"; this->self = lex::token_def<> ( '(' ) | ')' | '{' | '}' | '=' | ';'; this->self += identifier | number | if_ | else_; this->self( "WS" ) = lex::token_def<>( "[ \\t\\n]+" ); } lex::token_def<> if_, else_; lex::token_def< std::string > identifier; lex::token_def< double > number; }; template< typename Iterator, typename Lexer > struct LangGrammar : qi::grammar< Iterator, qi::in_state_skipper< Lexer > > { template< typename TokenDef > LangGrammar( const TokenDef& tok ) : LangGrammar::base_type( program ) { using boost::phoenix::val; using boost::phoenix::ref; using boost::phoenix::size; program = +block; block = '{' >> *statement >> '}'; statement = assignment | if_stmt; assignment = ( tok.identifier >> '=' >> expression >> ';' ); if_stmt = ( tok.if_ >> '(' >> expression >> ')' >> block ); expression = ( tok.identifier[ qi::_val = qi::_1 ] | tok.number[ qi::_val = qi::_1 ] ); BOOST_SPIRIT_DEBUG_NODE( program ); BOOST_SPIRIT_DEBUG_NODE( block ); BOOST_SPIRIT_DEBUG_NODE( statement ); BOOST_SPIRIT_DEBUG_NODE( assignment ); BOOST_SPIRIT_DEBUG_NODE( if_stmt ); BOOST_SPIRIT_DEBUG_NODE( expression ); } qi::rule< Iterator, qi::in_state_skipper< Lexer > > program, block, statement; qi::rule< Iterator, qi::in_state_skipper< Lexer > > assignment, if_stmt; typedef boost::variant< double, std::string > expression_type; qi::rule< Iterator, expression_type(), qi::in_state_skipper< Lexer > > expression; }; int main( int argc, char** argv ) { typedef std::string::iterator base_iterator_type; typedef lex::lexertl::token< base_iterator_type, boost::mpl::vector< double, std::string > > token_type; typedef lex::lexertl::lexer< token_type > lexer_type; typedef LangLexer< lexer_type > LangLexer; typedef LangLexer::iterator_type iterator_type; typedef LangGrammar< iterator_type, LangLexer::lexer_def > LangGrammar; LangLexer lexer; LangGrammar grammar( lexer ); std::string str( read_from_file( 1 == argc ?   • Need a design pattern for representing multiple information sources

    - by hsmit
    I'm building a Java application that retrieves information from differing information sources. I'm using a sensor, a set of RecordStores and a few online web services. In the basic application all these resources are loaded by default. Some of these sources are directly read in a separate thread (load database, read sensor etc.). From this basic application some functions are started that use these sources. The classes that contain these functions (usually combining multiple sources information) are currently paramterized with a set of resources like this: AppPart a1 = new AppPart(source1, source2, source3); I could also do it like this AppPart a1 = new AppPart(this); ..where I need to make my sources public in order to read them. I'm also thinking about a kind of stage/collection to publish all sources on, e.g: public SourceCollectionStage sStage = new SourceCollectionStage(); and later: sStage.getSensor(); .. for example. What do you guys think is the best or most often used way to do this? Btw: the user interface is often implemented by the specific funtion classes, not by the main class. Should I do this in another way?

  • Two-phase lookup: can I avoid "code bloat"?

    - by Pietro
    Two-phase lookup question: Is there a more synthetic way to write this code, i.e. avoiding all those "using" directives? I tried with "using CBase<T>;", but it is not accepted. #include <iostream> template <typename T> class CBase { protected: int a, b, c, d; // many more... public: CBase() { a = 123; } }; template <typename T> class CDer : public CBase<T> { // using CBase<T>; // error, but this is what I would like using CBase<T>::a; using CBase<T>::b; using CBase<T>::c; //... public: CDer() { std::cout << a; } }; int main() { CDer<int> cd; } In my real code there are many more member variables/functions, and I was wondering if it is possible to write shorter code in some way. Of course, using the CBase::a syntax does not solve the problem... Thank's! gcc 4.1 MacOS X 10.6

  • C: lseek() related question.

    - by Andrei Ciobanu
    I want to write some bogus text in a file ("helloworld" text in a file called helloworld), but not starting from the beginning. I was thinking to lseek() function. If I use the following code: #include <unistd.h> #include <fcntl.h> #include <sys/stat.h> #include <sys/types.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <stdio.h> #define fname "helloworld" #define buf_size 16 int main(){ char buffer[buf_size]; int fildes, nbytes; off_t ret; fildes = open(fname, O_CREAT | O_TRUNC | O_WRONLY, S_IRUSR | S_IWUSR); if(fildes < 0){ printf("\nCannot create file + trunc file.\n"); } //modify offset if((ret = lseek(fildes, (off_t) 10, SEEK_END)) < (off_t) 0){ fprintf(stdout, "\nCannot modify offset.\n"); } printf("ret = %d\n", (int)ret); if(write(fildes, fname, buf_size) < 0){ fprintf(stdout, "\nWrite failed.\n"); } close(fildes); return (0); } , it compiles well and it runs without any apparent errors. Still if i : cat helloworld The output is not what I expected, but: helloworld Can Where is "Can" comming from, and where are my empty spaces ? Should i expect for "zeros" instead of spaces ? If i try to open helloworld with gedit, an error occurs, complaining that the file character encoding is unknown.

  • Display an Android Sensors List

    - by Skatephone
    I'm trying to display a list of available sensors but it's like there are not! I was thinking that it was because of the emulator, but i tried it on the phone and the result is the same. private SensorManager mSensorManager; TextView mSensorsTot,mSensorAvailables; ...... public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); // Get the texts fields of the layout and setup to invisible mSensorsTot = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.sensoritot); mSensorAvailables = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.sensoridisponibili); // Get the SensorManager mSensorManager= (SensorManager) getSystemService(SENSOR_SERVICE); // List of Sensors Available List<Sensor> msensorList = mSensorManager.getSensorList(SensorManager.SENSOR_ALL); // Print how may Sensors are there mSensorsTot.setText(msensorList.size()+" "+this.getString(R.string.sensors)+"!"); // Print each Sensor available using sSensList as the String to be printed String sSensList = new String(""); Sensor tmp; int x,i; for (i=0;i<msensorList.size();i++){ tmp = msensorList.get(i); sSensList = " "+sSensList+tmp.getName(); // Add the sensor name to the string of sensors available } // if there are sensors available show the list if (i>0){ sSensList = getString(R.string.sensors)+":"+sSensList; mSensorAvailables.setText(sSensList); } } Thank's Valerio From Italy :)

  • How to use delegate to perform callback between caller and web service helper class?

    - by codemonkie
    I have 2 classes A and B, where they belongs to the same namespace but resides in seperate files namely a.cs and b.cs, where class B essentially is a helper wrapping a web service call as follow: public class A { public A() // constructor { protected static B b = new B(); } private void processResult1(string result) { // come here when result is successful } private void processResult2(string result) { // come here when result is failed } static void main() { b.DoJobHelper(...); } } public class B { private com.nowhere.somewebservice ws; public B() { this.ws = new com.nowhere.somewebservice(); ws.JobCompleted += new JobCompletedEventHandler(OnCompleted); } void OnCompleted(object sender, JobCompletedEventArgs e) { string s = e.Result; Guid taskID = (Guid)e.UserState; switch (s) { case "Success": // Call processResult1(); break; case "Failed": // Call processResult2(); break; default: break; } } public void DoJobHelper() { Object userState = Guid.NewGuid(); ws.DoJob(..., userState); } } (1) I have seen texts on the net on using delegates for callbacks but failed to apply that to my case. All I want to do is to call the appropriate processResult() method upon OnCompleted() event, but dunno how to and where to declare the delegate: public delegate void CallBack(string s); (2) There is a sender object passed in to OnCompleted() but never used, did I miss anything there? Or how can I make good use of sender? Any helps appreciated.

  • Amazon API ItemSearch returns (400) Bad Request.

    - by BuzzBubba
    I'm using a simple example from Amazon documentation for ItemSearch and I get a strange error: "The remote server returned an unexpected response: (400) Bad Request." This is the code: public static void Main() { //Remember to create an instance of the amazon service, including you Access ID. AWSECommerceServicePortTypeClient service = new AWSECommerceServicePortTypeClient(new BasicHttpBinding(), new EndpointAddress( "http://webservices.amazon.com/onca/soap?Service=AWSECommerceService")); AWSECommerceServicePortTypeClient client = new AWSECommerceServicePortTypeClient( new BasicHttpBinding(), new EndpointAddress("http://webservices.amazon.com/onca/soap?Service=AWSECommerceService")); // prepare an ItemSearch request ItemSearchRequest request = new ItemSearchRequest(); request.SearchIndex = "Books"; request.Title = "Harry+Potter"; request.ResponseGroup = new string[] { "Small" }; ItemSearch itemSearch = new ItemSearch(); itemSearch.Request = new ItemSearchRequest[] { request }; itemSearch.AWSAccessKeyId = accessKeyId; // issue the ItemSearch request try { ItemSearchResponse response = client.ItemSearch(itemSearch); // write out the results foreach (var item in response.Items[0].Item) { Console.WriteLine(item.ItemAttributes.Title); } } catch(Exception e) { Console.ForegroundColor = ConsoleColor.Red; Console.WriteLine(e.Message); Console.ForegroundColor = ConsoleColor.White; Console.WriteLine("Press any key to quit..."); Clipboard.SetText(e.Message); } Console.ReadKey(); What is wrong?

  • how to implement word count bash shell

    - by codemax
    hey guys. I am trying to write my own code for the word count in bash shell. I did usual way. But i wanna use pipe's output to count the word. So for eg the 1st command is cat and i am redirecting to a file called med. Now i have to use to 'dup2' function to count the words in that file. How can i write the code for my wc? This is the code for my shell pgm : void process( char* cmd[], int arg_count ) { pid_t pid; pid = fork(); char path[81]; getcwd(path,81); strcat(path,"/"); strcat(path,cmd[0]); if(pid < 0) { cout << "Fork Failed" << endl; exit(-1); } else if( pid == 0 ) { int fd; fd =open("med", O_RDONLY); dup2(fd ,0); execvp( path, cmd ); } else { wait(NULL); } } And my wordcount is : int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { char ch; int count = 0; ifstream infile(argv[1]); while(!infile.eof()) { infile.get(ch); if(ch == ' ') { count++; } } return 0; } I dont know how to do input redirection i want my code to do this : When i just type wordcount in my shell implementation, I want it to count the words in the med file by default. Thanks in advance

  • Which LINQ expression is faster

    - by Vlad Bezden
    Hi All In following code public class Person { public string Name { get; set; } public uint Age { get; set; } public Person(string name, uint age) { Name = name; Age = age; } } void Main() { var data = new List<Person>{ new Person("Bill Gates", 55), new Person("Steve Ballmer", 54), new Person("Steve Jobs", 55), new Person("Scott Gu", 35)}; // 1st approach data.Where (x => x.Age > 40).ToList().ForEach(x => x.Age++); // 2nd approach data.ForEach(x => { if (x.Age > 40) x.Age++; }); data.ForEach(x => Console.WriteLine(x)); } in my understanding 2nd approach should be faster since it iterates through each item once and first approach is running 2 times: Where clause ForEach on subset of items from where clause. However internally it might be that compiler translates 1st approach to the 2nd approach anyway and they will have the same performance. Any suggestions or ideas? I could do profiling like suggested, but I want to understand what is going on compiler level if those to lines of code are the same to the compiler, or compiler will treat it literally. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • How to synchronize placing an object in JNDI across processes?

    - by indra
    I am trying to place an object in JNDI, so that only one of the progam should be able to place it in JNDI. is there any global lock that can be used in J2EE environment. Is RMI can be used for this purpose? please provide any reference links. Thanks in advance. Also, what is NameAlreadyBoundexception? I am trying to use it as a method to synchronize, i.e, only one program places it in JNDI and if other trying to bind should get that exception. But when i am testing the multiple binding I am not getting the Exception.And second binding is done. look up is giving the second object bound. here is my code: private static String JNDI_NAME = "java:comp/env/test/something"; public class TestJNDI { private static String JNDI_NAME = "java:comp/env/test/something"; public static void main(String[] args) throws NamingException { Hashtable env = new Hashtable(); env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,"weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory"); env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL,"t3://127.0.0.1:7001"); Context ctx = new InitialContext(env); System.out.println("Initial Context created"); String obj1 = "obj1"; String obj2 = "obj2"; try{ ctx.bind(JNDI_NAME, obj1); System.out.println("Bind Sucess"); }catch(NameAlreadyBoundException ne ){ // already bound System.out.println("Name already bound"); } ctx.close(); Context ctx2 = new InitialContext(env); try{ // Second binding to the same name not giving the Exception?? ctx2.bind(JNDI_NAME, obj2); System.out.println("Re Bind Sucess"); }catch(NameAlreadyBoundException ne ){ // already bound System.out.println("Name already bound"); } String lookedUp = (String) ctx2.lookup(JNDI_NAME); System.out.println("LookedUp Object"+lookedUp); ctx2.close(); } }
