• Select a data template by item type programatically in WPF

  Hi all, unfortunately the WPF ToolbarTray does not support binding to a collection of ToolbarViewModels (Correct me, if I'm wrong). Thus I want to create the Toolbars programmatically. So there are two tasks, which I don't know how to do: Select the data template based on the item type. Instantiate the data template as toolbar Both should do the same as WPF does, when we use ItemsControl with an enumerable content and empty template. I used reflector to anaylse what WPF does. Task 1 is done by FrameworkElement.FindTemplateResourceInternal, but this is internal, and I couldn't find any public methods to acomplish the task. Of course one could enumerate all resources and match the data template data type property, but this seems sub-optimal. Who know's how to acomplish these tasks?

• how to copy char * into a string and visa versa

  If i pass a char * into a function. I want to then take that char * convert it to a std::string and once I get my result convert it back to char * from a std::string to show the result. I don't know how to do this for conversion ( I am not talking const char * but just char *) I am not sure how to manipulate the value of the pointer I send in. so steps i need to do take in a char * convert it into a string. take the result of that string and put it back in the form of a char * return the result such that the value should be available outside the function and not get destroyed. If possible can i see how it could be done via reference vs a pointer (whose address I pass in by value however I can still modify the value that pointer is pointing to. so even though the copy of the pointer address in the function gets destroyed i still see the changed value outside. thanks!

• Re-measuring custom item renderer on a List

  I'm writing an Adobe Air client to a service similar to Twitter. On the timeline (List component) I have a custom item renderer which is basically a Canvas with a fixed-width Image and a Text control, which is multi-line. If the text is long enough to change the Canvas height, it will only be resized if I manually change the width of the Window, forcing a redraw of all renderers. If I simply scroll through the List, all "new" renderers will have the minimum height possible (which is the Image height). Any ideas on how to force the re-measurement of the renderer when I set it's data? Thanks in advance! :)

  We're uploading files to a temporary folder in a bucket. After that, we're trying to copy the uploaded files to its actual folder then delete the files in the temporary folder. It doesn't timeout when working with a single file. We're using the ThreeSharp API.   I have a custom font family embedded in my WPF application which I can reference by specifying a base URI and font family name. new FontFamily(new Uri("pack://application:,,,/Fonts/"), "./#My Custom Font Family"); However, when I copy a selection which uses this font the xaml on the clipboard resembles the following <Run Text="Foo" FontFamily="./#My Custom Font Family" /> When I paste into the same RichTextBox I lose the font as it falls back to the system default because - When a FontFamily is specified as an attribute in markup, the base URI value is always implied—its value is the URI of the XAML page. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.media.fontfamily.aspx and my xaml page is not located in the same directory as the custom font family. Any ideas for a workaround?

  I have a table that stores a bunch of diagnosis for a single plan. When the users create a new plan I need to copy over all existing diagnosis's as well. I had thought to try the below but this is obviously not correct. I am guessing that I will need to loop through my oldDiagnosis part, but how? Thanks!   Hi Im trying to position an element so its slightly positioned outside its parent item. In IE8 it works but in IE7 the positioned element gets clipped. Here's my code HTML: <div id="parent"> <div id="child">text</div> </div> The CSS #parent { height: 40px; width: 400px; position: relative; } #child { position: absolute; width: 100px; height: 60px; top: 0px; left: 0px; } In IE7 you will see that the last 20px of the child element gets clipped. • Have visual studio copy x64 DLL or x86 DLL when building a C# project

  We're building a C# app that uses an external DLL for Sqlite.NET. This is a .NET dll but it embeds a C dll inside it and so it comes in x86 and x64 flavours. We add a reference to the x86 version in the project so when we build and run on x86 it's fine. Visual studio copies the dll to the bin folder and runs. On x64 it still copies the x86 version of course and then when it runs it fails to load it. We get round this by temporarily setting our project to be x86 only, but ideally we'd like to tell visual studio to copy the correct version depending on which flavour of machine it is. Any ideas how?

  Say I've got two tables. One contains a list of items, and one contains pictures of the items. Something like this: Items +----+---------+ | id | name | +----+---------+ | 1 | oranges | | 2 | apples | +----+---------+ Pictures +----+---------+ | id | item_id | +----+---------+ | 1 | 1 | | 2 | 2 | | 3 | 2 | +----+---------+ My question is this: is it possible in a single query to select item 2 from Items and join all the rows in the Pictures table whose item_id references that same id? I am sure I've tried almost everything I can think of, but nothing is coming to mind. I apologize if the answer to this is simple, but It's just escaping me right now.

  Hi.. I have a UITableViewController. I want to pop the copy/paste menu up when the user touches a cell. How to implement this functionality. Can someone help me. My question is, What CGRect I have to pass as the setTargetRect parameter? Do I need to call SetNeedsDisplayInRect in my TableViewController? What else to do to make this work?

  So I have this shopping list coded in php and js: http://www.whatcouldicook.com/recipes/planner So people can add, delete or sort the list and thats fine, I dont want multiple lists and instead just have a list item containing a heading tag to represent a new list. All this works and then using serialize I can save the ordering/modifying of the list. I don't know how to get the list contents however as these will be dynamic from the user.   Hi everyone, I have a one-to-many relationship between Part and Params (a "Part" has many "Params). I'm trying to do something naive like this: Part sourcePart = em.find(Part.class, partIdSource); Part destPart = em.find(Part.class, partIdDest); Collection<Param> paramListSource = sourcePart.getParamList(); destPart.setParamList(paramListSource); Basically I want to copy all the parameters from sourcePart to destPart. Hopefully the persistence provider will automatically set the right foreign keys in the Param table/entity. The above code will obviously not work. Is there any easy way of doing this, or do I have to do create a new collection, then add each Param (creating new Param, setting attributes, etc) ?

• HTA value update freezes when file copy starts

• WPF combo box, adding an all options item, when binding to an Observable Collection

  So I've got an object that has an observable collection. Most places I bind to this collection I only want the user to select a single item. But in one place I want the combobox to include an all items option. Is the way to do this simply with xaml converter? It seems like doing it in the view model would be a good idea, but it's really a lot dependency object goop to basically wire up an collection that is two objects deep for an on change event, where as the xaml converter just works. But I always feel like xaml converters should be generic and reusable, where in this instance, the xaml converter would be more of a one off. Of course the third option would be to create one off list for UI in the object that contains the standard observable collection. But this seems to be mixing the logic and presentation in a way that makes me uncomfortable.

• Selecting item from set given distribution

  I have a set of X items such as {blower, mower, stove} and each item has a certain percentage of times it should be selected from the overall set {blower=25%,mower=25%,stove=75%} along with a certain distribution that these items should follow (blower should be selected more at the beginning of selection and stove more at the end). We are given a number of objects to be overall selected (ie 100) and a overall time to do this in (say 100 seconds). I was thinking of using a roulette wheel algorithm where the weights on the wheel are affected by the current distribution as a function of the elapsed time (and the allowed duration) so that simple functions could be used to determine the weight. Are there any common approaches to problems like this that anyone is aware of? Currently i have programmed something similar to this in java using functions such as x^2 (with correct normalization for the weights) to ensure that a good distribution occurs. Other suggestions or common practices would be welcome :-)

  Hi. I was wondering if there was an algorithm for counting "most frequent items" without having to keep a count of each item? For example, let's say I was a search engine and wanted to keep track of the 10 most popular searches. What I don't want to do is keep a counter of every query since there could be too many queries for me to count (and most them will be singletons). Is there a simple algorithm for this? Maybe something that is probabilistic? Thanks!

These items follow fixed HTML template (table,image) and only specific content fields (name, body text..) can be change in the back-end. Backend users can add new pages or new items each page.
