  • Should I obscure primary key values?

    I'm building a web application where the front end is a highly-specialized search engine. Searching is handled at the main URL, and the user is passed off to a sub-directory when they click on a search result for a more detailed display. This hand-off is being done as a GET request with the primary key being passed in the query string. I seem to recall reading somewhere that exposing primary keys to the user was not a good idea, so I decided to implement reversible encryption. I'm starting to wonder if I'm just being paranoid. The reversible encryption (base64) is probably easily broken by anybody who cares to try, makes the URLs very ugly, and also longer than they otherwise would be. Should I just drop the encryption and send my primary keys in the clear?

    Is it possible to convert floats from big to little endian? I have a value from a PowerPC(big endian)platform that I am send via TCP to a Windows process (little endian). This value is a float, but when I "memcpy" the value into a win32 float type and then call _byteswap_ulongon that value, I always get 0.0000? What am I doing wrong?

  • Algorithm to aggregate values from child tree nodes

    I have objects in a tree structure, I would like to aggregate status information from children nodes and update parent node with aggregated status. Lets say node A has children B1, B2, and B1 has C1, C2, C3 as children. Each of the nodes have a status attribute. Now if C1, C2, C3 are all complete then I would like to mark B1 as completed. And if C4, C5,C6,C7 are complete make B2 as complete. When B1 and B2 are both complete mark A as complete. I can go through these nodes in brute force method and make updates, could someone suggest an efficient algorithm to do it. A { B1 { C1, C2, C3}, B2 { C4, C5, C6, C7} }

  • Setting UITableViewCell button image values during scrolling

    I am having an issue where I am trying to save whether a repeat image will show selected or not (it is created as a UIButton on a UITableViewCell created in IB). The issue is that since the cell gets re-used randomly, the image gets reset or set somewhere else after you start scrolling. I've looked all over and the advice was to setup an NSMutableArray to store the button's selection state and I am doing that in an array called checkRepeatState My question is: where do I put the if-then-else statement in the code to where it will actually change the button image based on if the checkRepeatState is set to 0 or 1 for the given cell that is coming back into view? Right now, the if-then-else statement I am using has absolutely no effect on the button image when it comes into view. I'm very confused at this point. Thank you ahead of time for any insight you can give!!!     Hi all, I created a template variable in modx by the name 'test_var'. Then in the home page resource edit content editor I wrote [*test_var*]. Then I published the resource. Then for checking if it works I executed the page using the preview button. The value appeared fine but when I refreshed the page, the value of the template variable disappeared ?   • Converting delimited string to multiple values in mysql

    I have a mysql legacy table which contains an client identifier and a list of items, the latter as a comma-delimited string. E.g. "xyz001", "foo,bar,baz". This is legacy stuff and the user insists on being able to edit a comma delimited string. They now have a requirement for a report table with the above broken into separate rows, e.g. "xyz001", "foo" "xyz001", "bar" "xyz001", "baz" Breaking the string into substrings is easily doable and I have written a procedure to do this by creating a separate table, but that requires triggers to deal with deletes, updates and inserts. This query is required rarely (say once a month) but has to be absolutely up to date when it is run, so e.g. the overhead of triggers is not warranted and scheduled tasks to create the table might not be timely enough. Is there any way to write a function to return a table or a set so that I can join the identifier with the individual items on demand?

    Hi, Senario: Masterpage with a UserControl and a child ASPX page In the past when using this senario I've used an Interface as a way to pass a value from the UserControl (embedded in a master page) to the masterpage code behind then consume that value in the child aspx page. My question is now that asp.net 4 have arrived is this still a good way to achieve this or is there another or perhaps better way to do it? I've read somewhere that perhaps "delegates" is perhaps another route to take. Any help much appreciated Lk

    Hi , i was trying to make a full lot of ips for testing using this code : ip_is = [i for i in range(256)] ports = [i for i in range(1024,49152)] return [str(i1)+"."+str(i2)+"."+str(i3)+"."+str(i4)+":"+str(p) for i1,i2,i3,i4,port in ip_is,ip_is,ip_is,ip_is,ports] The problem is the 3rd line in which is made the ip list. If there is a way to make it all at once or how can make one at time in a lazy way ? I'm pretty noob at python :P. Thanks for the Help :)

    hi frnds, I am using a WPF application, in which i placed a listview control which has 3 gridview columns. First Gridview column has a label Control and the remaining 2 gridview columns has textbox control. Now my problem is if the user enters a value in the first Gridview textbox column, the second gridview textbox column should be updated with some value. Is there any way to do that.     I am trying to pass some filters in my params through a form like so: hidden_field_tag "filters", params[:filters] For some reason the params get changed in the next page. For example, if params[:filters] used to be... "filters"={"name_like_any"=["apple"]} [1] ...it gets changed to... "filters"="{\"name_like_any\"=[\"apple\"]}" [2] note the extra quotations and backslashes in [2] when compared to [1]. Any ideas? I'm attempting to use this with searchlogic for some filtering, but I need it to persist when I change change objects in forms. I would prefer not to have to store it in session.

    I am trying to create a ListMenu using data from an SQLite database to define the name of each MenuItem. So in a class called menu.java I have defined the array String classes [] = {}; which should hold each menu item name. In a DBAdapter class I created a function so the user can insert info to a table (This all works fine btw). public long insertContact(String name, String code, String location, String comments, int days, int start, int end, String type) { ContentValues initialValues = new ContentValues(); initialValues.put(KEY_NAME, name); initialValues.put(KEY_CODE, code); initialValues.put(KEY_LOCATION, location); initialValues.put(KEY_COMMENTS, comments); initialValues.put(KEY_DAYS, days); initialValues.put(KEY_START, start); initialValues.put(KEY_END, end); initialValues.put(KEY_TYPE, type); return db.insert(DATABASE_TABLE, null, initialValues); } It would be the Strings inserted into KEY_NAME that I need to populate that String array with. Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks so much for the help guys. If I implement that function by Sam/Mango the program crashes, am I using it incorrectly or is the error due to the unknown size of the array?   • Cannot edit values of DataGridView bound to a BindingList

    Hello community, I have trouble editing a databound bindinglist. Let me illustrate it with the following: Say I have the Person class: public Class Person{ private string m_firstname; private string m_lastname; public string FirstName{get;set;} public string LastName{get;set;} public Person{ ... } } I then have a containing class called Population: public class Population{ private BindingList<Person> m_lstPerson = new BindingList<Person>(); private string m_countryName; public BindingList<Person> ListPerson{get; set;} public string CountryName { get; set; } } I then have on one form a first datagridview with DataSource = m_lstPopulation (BindingList). The binding works like a charm when working with the Population objects. When I double click, it opens up a dialog form showing the object details. One tab in the details holds a datagridview bound to that population's ListPerson. The second datagridview displays fine. However, I cannot edit or add cells in this datagridview. None of the columns is set to read-only. In fact, both datagridview have just about the same parameters. What am I missing? It seems that a lock has been placed on the Population object so that its inner fields cannot be edited... Please advise. Thanks.
