    Is there a way to copy a part of text of a link which is located on a website in google chrome browser? For instance: If we see a link on a website, and we hover mouse on it, we can click on it, but we can also highlight it if we press left mouse button and drag mouse pointer starting from either the beginning or the end of the link. But what if we have a link -- http://sourceforge.net/ , and we want to copy only the word "forge"? Remember that this is not the same as copying from the address bar in google chrome browser.

  • Looking for an old classic book about Unix command-line tools

    I am looking for a book about the Unix command-line toolkit (sh, grep, sed, awk, cut, etc.) that I read some time ago. It was an excellent book, but I totally forgot its name. The great thing about this specific book was the running example. It showed how to implement a university bookkeeping system using only text-processing tools. You would find a student by name with grep, update grades with sed, calculate average grades with awk, attach grades to IDs with cut, and so on. If my memory serve, this book had a black cover, and was published circa 1980. Does anyone remember this book? I would appreciate any help in finding it.

  • How to install Edubuntu on a system with low memory (256 Mb)?

    I'm preparing an old system with 256 Mb RAM to send it to some children. It doesn't have Ethernet controller and there are no Internet access at the destination. I've chosen Edubuntu for obvious reasons and modified it with UCK trying to minimize memory usage just to install, let alone using it yet. But Ubiquity won't start even in openbox (edited /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf) because there are no space left on /cow right after booting. I've already deleted things like ibus, zeitgeist, update-manager (no network access after all), twisted-core, plymouth logos. I'm thinking about creating a swap partition on HDD, can it be later added to expand this /cow ? Is there a package for the text-mode installation which is used on Alternate CDs? I don't want to re-create Edubuntu from an Alternate CD. This behavior is reproducible in VM limited to 256Mb RAM.

    I keep lots of notes as I work - code snippets, TODO lists, account details, links, comments. I currently use plain text files for this - very simple and robust but a bit last-century. I would like features similar to HTML - e.g. to embed pictures, formatting, and crucially hyperlinks within my notes. One particular use-case is an implementation of Getting Things Done - more or less, a collection of hierarchical TODO lists, which I'd implement with hyperlinks between tasks. Most WYSIWYG HTML editors seem to be aimed at web designers, creating beautiful pages for professional websites. Is there a simple tool / editor more appropriate for how I want to use it? (or advice from anyone doing the same)

  • How to show history of edits for a post like StackExchange? [on hold]

    Using: ColdFusion 10, JQuery, IIS 7.5 I'm creating a system where people can submit their text articles to me and I can apply edits/corrections and send it back to them. However I don't want to lose their original work. I want them to see where I made edits. StackExchange pretty much does what I want by showing when a post was edited and then you can see the history of changes. Can anyone please suggest how to go about doing this? Everytime an edit is made, it has to be written to the database. But how do I show what was edited? It could be 1 word in a whole paragraph... how would I highlight this? I just need some pointers if possible at what to think about and what to use if anyone has the time to help me out.

  • Stop Excel from changing cell contents, ever

    I work with card numbers, like credit card and ID numbers. We do not do any calculations with card numbers, obviously. They are "text." I format them as text, I type them like text. I know how that works. Excel doesn't care. 16 digit card numbers get their last digit turned into a zero, changed into scientific notation, stupid stuff that I did not tell Excel to do. I need to do things like Find/Remove spaces from cells in files downloaded from our currently imperfect web-system. The system sends me files with 16 digit numbers, cells formatted as text, but due to bugs there are spaces at the end. I do Find/Remove all spaces and all my card numbers are transformed into scientific notation and the last digit turned into a 0. THEY ARE TEXT, they are formatted as text, I yelled into the screen that they are text, why does Excel refuse to acknowledge that they are text? (I would rather find a way to stop Excel's action than find a way to tell our programmers to put an apostrophe in every cell) How do I make it so that Excel just STOPS doing anything that I didn't tell it to do? Or at least stop it from doing anything to numbers it doesn't like. Maybe I can write a macro for whenever it discovers "Uhoh I should change that number to something different!" I'll make it format that cell to text a thousand times instead. Give me an error when I try calculating with a number larger than 15 digits, make my computer explode violently, that's fine. Just stop changing the numbers. Is it possible? I have many thousands of numbers that need changing in many different scenarios. I just want to stop it from trying to help. I can't understand why that would be difficult. I have 2007, but answers for other versions would be great as well. Thank you!

    I have a problem with a bound user control writing back to it's datasource on a NetCF forms application. The application is too complex to post code, so I made a toy version to show you. I create a form, usercontrol with a combobox, a class (testBind) and another class (TestLookup). I bind a property of the usercontrol ("value") to a property ("selectedValue") on the testBind class. The testBind class implements INotifyPropertyChanged. I create a few fascade methods on the user control to bind the contained combobox to a BindingList(of TestLookup). I create a button to show the value of the testBind bound property (in a MessageBox). The messagebox returns "-1" every time regardless of the combobox entry selected. I can take the EXACT same code, paste it in a full framework Forms app and it will return the correct value of the selected combobox entry.     Hi, I have a class that starts with: public class GeneralID implements WritableComparable<GeneralID>{ ... } And another that is: public class LineValuesMapper<KI, VI, KO, VO> extends Mapper<LongWritable, Text, Text, IntWritable>{ ... } All methods in these classes are covered. But not their header. The header of both classes gets painted as yellow with EclEmma. Is there anything I can do to fully cover the class header?

I can draw text in drawRect method where graphics context is already available. How i will draw text using my custom method myDraw which will be called after 1 second using NSTimer? If i create my custom Method the graphics context is not available in that method.

    I have LI that I want to fade out and back in. Within the list item I have some text. This text is positioned absolutely within the LI. The catch is that in IE8 (IE6 and 7 seem fine) I can get everything to fade except the text: http://jsbin.com/esamu/13 If I remove the absolute positioning on the text element (in this case, a P), IE8 then can fade the text properly: http://jsbin.com/esamu/14 Anyone know why this is?     I need to visualize a text into a delimited space. If I add a simple TextBlock I have a problem: when the text is longer than the available space, it is cropped at the end. I tried to insert the TextBlock inside a Viewbox: this solution works for a text longer than the available space, but increase the size of the text when it is shorter. Is there a way to reduce the size of the text only when it is longer than the available space?

I'm using the text fields for code samples, as that appeared to be the only way to have a scrolling text frame. Upon conversion of the document, these text fields get populated with escape characters. Is there any way to disable the escape sequences that are getting populating into these text fields?

  • apply style to range of text with javascript in uiwebview

    I am displaying some simple styled text as html in a UIWebView on iPhone. It is basically a series of paragraphs with the occasional strong or emphasized phrase. At runtime I need to apply styles to ranges of text. There are a few similar scenarios, one of which is highlighting search results. If the user has searched for "something" I would like to change the background color behind occurrences of the word, then later restore the original background. Is it possible to apply styles to ranges of text using javascript? A key part of this is also being able to unset the styles. There seem to be two likely paths to follow. One would be modifying some html in Objective-C and passing it through javascript as the new innerHTML of some container. The other would be to use javascript to directly manipulate DOM nodes. I could manipulate html, but that sounds tedious in Objective-C so I would rather manipulate the DOM if that is a reasonable approach. I am not that familiar with javascript and DOM so I do not know if it is a reasonable approach. I wrote some routines to translate between text ranges and node ranges with offsets. So if I start with text range 100-200 and that starts in one paragraph and ends in a third, I can get the text nodes and the offsets within the nodes that represent the given text range. I just need a way to split a text node at an offset in the text. Currently I just apply styles to the paragraphs containing the text range. A few notes: straight javascript please, no external frameworks like jquery. the changes never need to be written to disk. the changes should be undoable or at least removable. the styles to apply already exist in a css file. it needs to work in iPhone 3.0 and forward. all the source files are shipped with the app. please be verbose.
