  • How to restore a hidden loadable kernel module from /sys/module and dealing with restoring holders_dir?

    I'm playing with kernel module hiding on Linux Kernel 3.x. I try to hide and recover the module from /sys/module. Everything works fine on Kernel Version 3.0 and 3.2.6, I can load and unload the module and hide and unhide it. When I'm unloading the module on kernel 3.6.6 I get the following error: rmmod: ERROR: could not open '/sys/module/xxx/holders': No such file or directory rmmod: ERROR: Module xxx is in use Has anybody an idea how I could restore of the module so that I am able to unload it without errors?   • What's the deal with the hidden Throw when catching a ThreadAbortException?

    I'm going through a book of general c# development, and I've come to the thread abort section. The book says something along the lines that when you call Thread.Abort() on another thread, that thread will throw a ThreadAbortException, and even if you tried to supress it it would automatically rethrow it, unless you did some bs that's generally frowned upon. Here's the simple example offered. using System; using System.Threading; public class EntryPoint { private static void ThreadFunc() { ulong counter = 0; while (true) { try { Console.WriteLine("{0}", counter++); } catch (ThreadAbortException) { // Attempt to swallow the exception and continue. Console.WriteLine("Abort!"); } } } static void Main() { try { Thread newThread = new Thread(new ThreadStart(EntryPoint.ThreadFunc)); newThread.Start(); Thread.Sleep(2000); // Abort the thread. newThread.Abort(); // Wait for thread to finish. newThread.Join(); } catch (Exception e) { Console.WriteLine(e.ToString()); } } } The book says: When your thread finishes processing the abort exception, the runtime implicitly rethrows it at the end of your exception handler. It’s the same as if you had rethrown the exception yourself. Therefore, any outer exception handlers or finally blocks will still execute normally. In the example, the call to Join won’t be waiting forever as initially expected. So i wrapped a try catch around the Thread.Abort() call and set a break point, expecting it to hit this, considering the text says "any outer exception handlers or finally blocks will still execute normally". BUT IT DOES NOT. I'm racking my brain to figure out why. Anyone have any thoughts on why this isn't the case? Is the book wrong? Thanks in advance.

    Should I frequently rely on default values? For example, in PHP, if you have the following: <?php $var .= "Value"; ?> This is perfectly fine - it works. But what if assignment like this to a previously unused variable is later eliminated from the language? (I'm not referring to just general assignment to an unused variable.) There are countless examples of where the default value of something has changed and so much existing code was then useless. On the other hand, without default values, there is a lot of code redundancy. What is the proper way of dealing with this?

He will make some changes to some files that he do not wish to commit back to me (maybe stylesheets and images), but he will maybe implement a new feature that he would like to push back to my project.     I am trying to prepare a complete list of behaviour that Gmail POP3 exhibits, that you wouldn’t expect to generally find in a POP3 server. For example, Gmail appears to ignore the DELE (delete) command from a POP3 client. Instead, it implements its own delete and archive strategy. The purpose of preparing a list is to avoid developers testing a POP3 client against the Gmail POP3 server and then assuming that all POP3 servers behave in the same way. Can anyone provide a more complete list of non-standard behaviour?

  • Looking for a script/tool to dump a list of installed features and programs on Windows Server 2008 R

    Hi, The same compiled .Net / C++ / Com program does different things on two seemingly same computers. Both have DOZENS of things installed on them. I would like to figure out what the difference between the two is by looking at an ASCII diff. Before that I need to "serialize" the list of installed things in a plain readable format - sorted alphabetically + one item per line. A Python script would be ideal, but I also have Perl, PowerShell installed. Thank you.

    Let's say I have a User model, with a facebook_uid field corresponding to the user's facebook id. I want to allow the user to unlink his facebook account. Do do so, I need to set this attribute to nil. I currently see 2 ways of doing this First way : create a custom action and link to it # app/controllers/users_controller.rb def unlink_facebook_account @user = User.find params[:id] # Authorization checks go here @user.facebook_uid = nil @user.save # Redirection go here end # config/routes.rb ressources :users do get 'unlink_fb', :on => :member, :as => unlink_fb end # in a view = link_to "Unlink your facebook account", unlink_fb_path(@user) Second way : create a form to the existing update action # app/views/user/_unlink_fb_form.html.haml = form_for @user, :method => "post" do |f| = f.hidden_field :facebook_uid, :value => nil = f.submit "Unlink Facebook account" I'm not a big fan of either way. In the first one, I have to add a new action for something that the update controller already can do. In the second one, I cannot set the facebook_uid to nil without customizing the update action, and I cannot have a link instead of a button without adding some javascript. Still, what would you recommend as the best and most elegant solution for this context? Did I miss a third alternative?

    Hi there, just wondering if it is possible to hide/disable the quicktime logo when displaying .MOV video on my site? Because the size of the video is large (3MB), I have included a rotating loading animation, however once the video player loads, the Quicktime logo hides the animation, which makes the user less likely in my opinion to wait for the movie to load? The way I've shown here only passes one value...the first row.

    Hi, I want to use django.contrib.comments in a blogging application and customize the way the form is displayed. My problem is that I can't get the fields to display although displaying the hidden fields works just fine.   • Authlogic Facebook Connect and cucumber

    I added the authlogic_facebook_connect plugin to my project and I'm now having problem running my cucumber test because of a NoMethodError. undefined method `set_facebook_session' for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError) In authlogic_facebook_connect/Session.rb the method "authenticating_with_facebook_connect?" is called as some sort of callback and the controller is defined but is missing the 'set_facebook_session' method. def authenticating_with_facebook_connect? controller.set_facebook_session attempted_record.nil? && errors.empty? && controller.facebook_session end I don't understand why the cucumber test is not loading the controller with this method.     I am developing a payment option in a PHP based application. The user can choose Paypal or Paypal recurring method to make a payment. However, the user would pay $50 for the first time and $40 starting from next month. However, when the user chooses the Paypal recurring option and he pays $50, Paypal automatically chooses $50 from the next month onwards. Is it possible to set the different initial payment and recurring payment ?   • viewstack causing error 1065 variable not defined issue?

    I've got an flex application where I have a left side TREE control and a viewstack on the right and when someone selects the tree it loads the named viewstack based on the hidden node value of the XML of the tree. But it's throwing a error 1065 variable not defined on a viewstack which worked on the last browser refresh/reload. It's not related to a particular viewstack from what I can tell it just seems to throw the error on certain render events.   • PHP - Best practice to retain form values across postback

    Hello, Complete PHP novice here, almost all my previous work was in ASP.NET. I am now working on a PHP project, and the first rock I have stumbled upon is retaining values across postback. For the most simple yet still realistic example, i have 10 dropdowns. They are not even databound yet, as that is my next step. They are simple dropdowns. I have my entire page inclosed in a tag. the onclick() event for each dropdown, calls a javascript function that will populate the corrosponding dropdowns hidden element, with the dropdowns selected value. Then, upon page reload, if that hidden value is not empty, i set the selected option = that of my hidden. This works great for a single postback. However, when another dropdown is changed, the original 1'st dropdown loses its value, due to its corrosponding hidden value losing its value as well! This draws me to look into using querystring, or sessions, or... some other idea. Could someone point me in the right direction, as to which option is the best in my situation? I am a PHP novice, however I am being required to do some pretty intense stuff for my skill level, so I need something flexable and preferribly somewhat easy to use. Thanks! -----edit----- A little more clarification on my question :) When i say 'PostBack' I am referring to the page/form being submitted. The control is passed back to the server, and the HTML/PHP code is executed again. As for the dropdowns & hiddens, the reason I used hidden variables to retain the "selected value" or "selected index", is so that when the page is submitted, I am able to redraw the dropdown with the previous selection, instead of defaulting back to the first index. When I use the $_POST[] command, I am unable to retrieve the dropdown by name, but I am able to retrieve the hidden value by name. This is why upon dropdown-changed event, I call javascript which sets the selected value from the dropdown into its corrosponding hidden.
