  • Numbering equations based on chapter numbers in MS-Word

    I am seeking for a way to number each equation based on the chapter numbers. The number should be placed at the right side of the equation and the equation should be center-aligned. Something like this: (The bounding box around 2.3 is not necessary). I found this article that do this in a tricky way. Sadly it has some problems when I use multilevel numbering for Headings. To conclude, I am looking for a way to numbers equations that: The numbering is formatted as N-M that N is chapter number and M is equation number. equation is placed in center-aligned number is placed in the right side of equation There should be a way to cross-reference each numbered equation.   • Word 2010, how to update protected document

    The document has one "Section Break" with e.g. "Text Form Fields" above. To make this Form Field work properly I use "Restrict Editing", allow "Filling in Forms", "Select Sections" and then protect Section 1. Then "Start Enforcing Protection". Now when the document is protected above the Section Break you can't use CTRL-Aand F9 to make an update of the fields, etc. of the document below the Section Break. Is there any solution for this problem?

    A few months ago, while writing a paper, I copied some paragraphs created in another computer into a different computer. I guess the formatting was different. Please see the following image: I noticed that a strange formatting has also been imported. I thought it would go away when I select all and choose a format. But the problem did not go away. Now, when I am trying to finish the paper, the weird formatting still remaining. Does anyone have any solution? Also, how to make sure that when we copy something from a file with different Styles, we retain the destination style definitions. EDIT I would prefer a solution where I do not have to re-do the formatting manually.

Problem case: If user is having view rights on the document library but add/delete rights on a perticular subfolder(say 'subfolder') inside the document library: Menu item 'Import From REP' is not visible on root folder level as well as 'Upload' menu is also not visible. which is o.k. because user does not have AddListItems right on root folder but it is also not visible in 'subfolder' while 'Upload' menu is visible as user has add/delete rights on the 'subfolder'. did i mention a wrong value of attribute Rights(Rights="AddListItems") in the xml file?? If so, what should be the correct value? What should i do to simulate the behaviour of 'Upload' menu??(i.e. when 'Upload' menu is visible, 'Import From REP' menu is visible and when 'Upload' menu is not visible 'Import From REP' menu is also not visible. ) Thanks in advance Anoop

  • Microsoft Expression Web 3 clipboard bug

    There seems to be a rather annoying bug in MS Expression Web 3 (or perhaps an incompatibility with something else I have installed). Quite often HTML code editor would refuse to copy things into clipboard. You select some text, press Ctrl-C, Ctrl-Insert or use context menu and nothing happens. Then in 10..15 seconds it would start working again... Then again it would not work. It's rather annoying. Does anyone else have such a problem or knows how to fix it? I'm running Microsoft Expression Web 3 Service Pack 1 Version 3.0.3813.0 on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with all latest updates and patches. I have Russian keyboard layout installed. Other than that my system is pretty much plain vanilla.

    I have to create Documents in about my project that is written in about Android.I use Word 2010 and I copy some lines of my code into the Word doc then I add my descriptions.My problem is huge number of error of spell checker of Word that arises in each paragraph(lines that I paste them from my code into Word).For example it may be used setSpan,removeSpan and ... in my codes and spell checker show red underline under all of them.You can see huge number of errors in a few lines that I paste them: Is there a way to add all spell errors to word dictionary at once for selected area?

  • Make Ms Word activate window of file if it is already open when I double click the file's icon?

    When I try to open a word document that is already open, I want it to just activate the window where the file is open. How can I do that? sometimes it takes time to check if an ms word document is already open, I don't to have to have to check through a bunch of open word documents to see if it's in there or not, I just want to double click the icon of a word document, and if it's open then go to it, if not then open it. With the doc/docx or shortcut to the doc/docx , I have some files where when I double click , it activates it when already open. I have other files where double clicking will bring up a "file in use" dialog box. I can't find what is the cause. I want it to always activate the window rather than reopen it. update- maybe that is default behaviour to activate when already open, and after a crash I had that stopped. i'll try deleting the working files and starting ms word again, idea from here

  • Microsoft Word Document Controls not accepting carriage returns

    So, I have a Microsoft Word 2007 Document with several Plain Text Format (I have tried Rich Text Format as well) controls which accept input via XML. For carriage returns, I had the string being passed through XML containing "\r\n" when I wanted a carriage return, but the word document ignored that and just kept wrapping things on the same line. I also tried replacing the \r\n with System.Environment.NewLine in my C# mapper, but that just put in \r\n anyway, which still didn't work. Note also that on the control itself I have set it to "Allow Carriage Returns (Multiple Paragrpahs)" in the control properties. Talk to my PM about the possibility of purchasing it but they wanted something similar that might work for word documents as well as just excel so that others might use it as it is more common for word documents to be generated.

From the article: All Things D quotes one insider as saying they're "titanic" changes, noting they might be attached to Ballmer's legacy at the company. "It’s the first time in a long time that it feels like that there will be some major shifts, including some departures," says the alleged insider. Considering Ballmer let Sinofsky go right after the Windows 8 launch, the idea of Microsoft cutting loose some executives doesn’t seem to be big news. But the next piece of the article frames things more interestingly: Ballmer is reportedly considering a new structure that would create four separate divisions: enterprise business, hardware, applications and services, and an operating systems group. This statement got me thinking…what would this new structure look like? Below is one possibility: At a recent (this year or last year, I can’t recall which) Microsoft shareholder’s meeting, Ballmer made the statement that Microsoft is now a products and services company. At the time I don’t think I really let that statement sink in. Partially because I really liked the Microsoft of my professional youth – the one that was a software and platform company. In Canada, Microsoft has been pushing three platform areas: Lync, Azure, and SQL Server. I would expect those to change moving forward as Microsoft continues to look for Partners that will help them increase their Services revenue through solutions that incorporate/are based on Azure, Office 365, Lync, and Dynamics. I also wonder if we’re not seeing a culling of partners through changes to the Microsoft Partner Program. In addition to the changing certification requirements that align more to Microsoft’s goals (i.e. There is no desktop development based MCSD, only Windows 8 Store Apps), competencies that partners can qualify for are being merged, requirements changed, and licenses provided reduced. Ballmer warned as much at the last WPC though that they were looking for partners who were “all in” with Microsoft, and these programs seem to support that sentiment. Heading into BUILD this week, I’ll be looking to answer one question – what does it mean to be a Microsoft developer here in the 2010’s? What is the future of the Microsoft development platform? Sure, Visual Studio is still alive and well and Microsoft realizes that there’s a huge install base of .NET developers actively working on solutions. But they’ve ratcheted down the messaging around their development stack and instead focussed on promoting development for their platforms and services. Last year at BUILD with the release of Windows 8, Microsoft just breached the walls of its cocoon. After this BUILD and the organizational change announcements in July, we’ll see what Microsoft looks like fully emerged from its metamorphosis.

    I’ve just been alerted by my colleague Kyle Harvie to a Visual Studio 2010 add-in that should prove very useful if you are an SSDT user. Its simply called Highlight all occurrences of selected word and does exactly what it says on the tin, you highlight a word and it shows all other occurrences of that word in your script: There’s a limitation for .sql files (which I have reported) where the highlighting doesn’t work if the word is wrapped in square brackets but what the heck, its free, it takes about ten seconds to install….install it already! @Jamiet

Thanks! This Code Golf challenge is about solving word searches! A word search, as defined by Wikipedia, is: A word search, word find, word seek, word sleuth or mystery word puzzle is a word game that is letters of a word in a grid, that usually has a rectangular or square shape. The objective of this puzzle is to find and mark all the words hidden inside the box. The words may be horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Often a list of the hidden words is provided, but more challenging puzzles may let the player figure them out. Many word search puzzles have a theme to which all the hidden words are related. The word searches for this challenge will all be rectangular grids with a list of words to find provided. The words can be written vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Input/Output The user inputs their word search and then inputs a word to be found in their grid. These two inputs are passed to the function that you will be writing. It is up to you how you want to declare and handle these objects. Using a strategy described below or one of your own, the function finds the specific word in the search and outputs its starting coordinates (simply row number and column number) and ending coordinates. If you find two occurrences of the word, you must output both's set of coordinates. Counting how often each letter of the alphabet is present in the whole grid, then selecting one of the least-occurring letters from the word you have to find and searching for the letter. On each occurrence of the letter, you look at its eight surrounding letters to see whether the next and previous letters of the word is there.

Is it ok for companies to act childish (not wanting to share, not-invented-here syndrome, etc)?     Hi all, I have an interview with Microsoft in a week and am wondering what to wear. The recruiter said Business Casual but that means very little to me. I'm sure some people here have already had interviews at MS. Anyone care to share what the interviewers were wearing? Would I be out of place with jeans and a polo shirt? Honestly, I feel more comfortable with casual clothes (some people are the opposite) but I don't want to look under dressed either. Thanks for the tips.
