• Cannot receive email outside domain with Microsoft Exchange

  This morning we couldn't receive email from outside our company's domain (domain.com.au), but we can send email to outside (e.g hotmail, gmail, yahoo). When I tried to send email to my work email address using my gmail account, I received this message Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 Unable to relay for [email protected] (state 14). I tried using telnet to send email, and it works. But still I couldn't figure out why I can't receive email from outside. I'm not sure if I provided enough info. I'll try to provide as much info as needed to help me solve the problem. Thanks

Anyone got any ideas?

• WPF Application Hang

  Hi, I'm using Windows 7 Professional (x64) and having installed .NET 4.0 RTM on my machine. Since 2 days I'm noticing that every WPF application that I'm trying to run hangs and becomes non responsive (a not responding text is appended to it's title bar) and it's painted white. There is no info regarding any exception, no error message. Nothing. Even the Event Log shows that there was "application hang" event (code 1002) and nothing more. This problem is for everything that is written in WPF, even for products like NHibernate Profiler and other stuff that I was using on a regular basis without any issues. Tried to reinstall .NET 4.0 and nothing changed. Any ideas why this might be happening?

• How to find the right balance between "quick & dirty" and "nice & general" code?

  This is not a direct programming question, but a little help from the programming community would be appreciated. I am suffering from an overgeneralization disease. I can't stop spending valuable time with making my code most general and abstract. I could also call it the toolkit/library disease. I tend to turn every programming task into a general problem and try to "write a toolkit", that would work for many similar problems. I know it's a good thing in general, if there is enough time, but sometimes I should be writing a quick prototype and just can't seem to write the quick and dirty code that just works for the special case. I often get excited about an idea that makes the code more general and user-configurable and understimate the time it takes to actually implement it that way. Does anyone else have this experience? How can I force myself to find the right balance between "quick hack" and "nice solution"?

• OT: US Banks: Bank Routing Number and BIC/SWIFT

  I know it is a bit offtopic, but I've been having a hard time finding more information to this question, and since this site is visited by a lot of people from the United States, you guys might know/find the answer more easily. Banks in europe each have a SWIFT Number, while US Banks use Routing Numbers. This leads to following questions: Does each bank in the US also carry a BIC number? (SWIFT) Is there a 1-1 relationship between BIC and SWIFT? Is there a list of these numbers somewhere? (background information: we're adding international payments to our bookkeeping application. Users can add international suppliers, but my boss prefered not to change the current supplier table but to have the ROUTING NUMBER in another table, with as PK the BIC. I'm wondering if BIC is a valid choice, or if it should just be BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER.)

• PHP text output in clauses

  Hello. I am working on a PHP project. There, I often use following syntax to output text in a cluase: if($boolean){ ?> output text <? }else{ ?> alternative <? } On my computer, this works perfectly well. I use XAMPP foer Mac OS X. But when I send the files to my coworker, these outputs often do not work and the compiler complains about having reached an unexpected $end of file. This occurs especially often when there is a tag in the output. We have to replace the means of output with echo. What's the reason for this strange behavior of the compiler? Is the above-mention syntax of outputting text wrong?

• ODBC datasource for DB2 on 64 bit Windows 2008

  First of all, sorry for this non-programming question. I just finished development of some code that communicates with DB2 and want to test/deploy it on a Windows 2008 machine. I'm a bit concerned about not being able to find a working ODBC datasource (DSN/client) driver for DB2 on Windows 2008 (x64). I have a 32-bit driver for XP but that one (obviously) won't install on 2008-64. The IBM web site comes up with 1844 results when searching for "ODBC Windows 2008", but none of them are relevant. The web site's also a pain to use, btw. While googling around I found some solutions by 3rd party vendors but they all want money :) And the DB2 client and ODBC driver from IBM have always been free-of-charge. Does anyone have a solution?

  I keep seeing code that does checks like this if (IsGood == false) { DoSomething(); } or this if (IsGood == true) { DoSomething(); } I hate this syntax, and always use the following syntax. if (IsGood) { DoSomething(); } or if (!IsGood) { DoSomething(); } Is there any reason to use '== true' or '== false'? Is it a readability thing? Do people just not understand Boolean variables? Also, is there any performance difference between the two?

An error has occurred, all later migrations canceled: Can't mass-assign protected attributes: username, hashed_password, first_name, last_name, email, display_name, user_level What am I doing wrong please help? • MySQL FULLTEXT not working

  I'm attempting to add searching support for my PHP web app using MySQL's FULLTEXT indexes. I created a test table (using the MyISAM type, with a single text field a) and entered some sample data. Now if I'm right the following query should return both those rows: SELECT * FROM test WHERE MATCH(a) AGAINST('databases') However it returns none. I've done a bit of research and I'm doing everything right as far as I can tell - the table is a MyISAM table, the FULLTEXT indexes are set. I've tried running the query from the prompt and from phpMyAdmin, with no luck. Am I missing something crucial? Since I am not from the US and getting a user's correct ZIP code is important, I have no idea which format I should use. Could anyone (preferably from the US) please clarify what's the deal with the +4 digits and how important are they ? Is it safe to use only the plain 5-digit ZIP ? Thank you in advance !

The robots.txt file of the website says that its webpages must not be scraped. So my question is whether selling that screen scraper is a crime or using that screen scraper is a crime in legal terms. I know that this question is related to law but I thought the software experts on SO must also have answer to this question.

  Hi guys, How do I go about displaying the most recent post when I have two tables, both containing a column called creation_date This would be simple if all I had to do was get the most recent post based on posts created_on value however if a post contains replies I need to factor this into the equation.   I want to get the most viewed photo from the database but I don't know how I shall accomplish this. In this case it's wrong - it should print out the photo with ID 85. How can I fix this problem? Thanks in advance.
