• python: naming a module that has a two-word name

  I'm trying to put together a really simple module with one .py source file in it, and have already run into a roadblock. I was going to call it scons-config but import scons-config doesn't work in Python. I found this SO question and looked at PEP8 style guide but am kind of bewildered, it doesn't talk about two-word-name conventions. What's the right way to deal with this? module name: SconsConfig? scons_config? sconsconfig? scons.config? name of the single .py file in it: scons-config.py? scons_config.py?

  hi, i have a mathematical problem which is a bit hard to describe, but i'll give it a try anyway. in a timeline, i have a number of frames, of which i want to skip a certain number of frames, which should be evenly distributed along the timeline. for example i have 10 frames and i want to skip 5, then the solution is easy: we skip every second frame. 10/5 = 2 if (frame%2 == 0) skip(); but what if the above division does result in a floating number? for example in 44 frames i want to skip 15 times. how can i determine the 15 frames which should be skipped? thanks!

  I'm using lucene on a site of mine and I want to show the total result count from a query, for example: Showing results x to y of z But I can't find any method which will return me the total number of potential results. I can only seem to find methods which you have to specify the number of results you want, and since I only want 10 per page it seems logical to pass in 10 as the number of results. Or am I doing this wrong, should I be passing in say 1000 and then just taking the 10 in the range that I require?

• Match a word with similar words using Solr?

  I want to search for threads in my mysql database with Solr. But i want it to not just search the thread words, but for similar words. Eg. if a thread title is "dog for sale" and if the user searches for dogs the title will be in the result. and also if a user searches for "mac os x" the word "snow leopard" will appear. and the ability to link words the application thinks is related eg. house and apartment. how is this kind of logic done? i know that you can with solr look up words in a dictionary file you create/add, so solr will look for dogs and see what related words there are (eg. dog). but where do you find such a dictionary? i have no idea about this kind of implementation. please point me into right direction. thanks

  Is there any library that achieves the following: Convert Microsoft Windows 98 Microsoft Windows XP Windows 7 Windows Ultimate Desktop Windows to Windows 4 The complicated part here is to recognize that "Desktop Windows" is an anomaly here and not count it. If nothing is added before the word "Windows", perhaps it can be counted but if there is something else and the suffix does not match any popular suffix, it can still be counted. Maybe I am a little vague here but perhaps someone could have an idea about what I am talking about here. Any suggestions?

  I have to create logic for generation unique number identifier for records in database. id, generated in database is a separate column. At this moment, when user calls "create record" action, I save new record, get its database id, generate record number using this id, then put it to the edit form. Using this way means that all entity fields should be nullable to save record to database. I don't like this way. I know that should be better way. Is there a better practice to generate unique number identifier? What is possibility of generating non-unique random numbers? Thank you

  Hi, I found this article (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb967663.aspx) and thought great thats exactly what I'm trying to do. I want to programatically build a product brochure using content controls and openXML. The article in question refers to an accompanying video which unfortunately does not appear to be available, nor does the code. I posted a comment to ask where they are but in the meantime does anybody know of a good example. There are plenty of examples of binding/merging one record into a openXML Word document. But I want to bind a whole list of records to create a product brochure. Can anyone point me to good tutorial? Thanks

• Sequence Number in testing Spring application with JUnit (Hibernating, Spring MVC)

Iam able to add an comment and I also have a defaultRollback property set. So, the added comment will be deleted automatically. happy!..Now the problem is with the sequence number for mcomment. Can I, in any way rollback the seq number? any suggestins on that. I dont want to mess up the sequrnce number. Business requires comment Id to be showed. (I still dont know why). I know in memory db is an option....but I am guessing defaultRollback purpose is to eliminate in memory db testing and mocking. (Just my opinion.)

• Generated PersonController expects Authority to contain word ROLE

  I'm brand new to acegi and relatively new to Grails. I just followed the tutorial to set up a new role and a new user. Every time I saved the user (with a role checked), it saved the user information fine, but not the role associated with the user. I finally dug into the controller code that was generated, and noticed this: private void addRoles(person) { for (String key in params.keySet()) { if (key.contains('ROLE') && 'on' == params.get(key)) { Authority.findByAuthority(key).addToPeople(person) } } } So to be sure I was interpreting it correctly, I added the word ROLE to my authorties, and it worked like a charm. Am I missing something obvious, is this a bug, or.......? The examples showed simple role names like "user" or "manager".

• Number guessing game (3+- guessed result)

  I've been assigned a task to create a game that generates 4 digits and the user has to guess the digits one at a time to get the correct result. If the number is correct a Y is displayed and if not, a N. This was easy, now the next step was to implement another two responses. If the answer is too high, a H is displayed and too low, an N. Again, was easy - now the third is to use the same design as game 2 but if the number is 3 higher than a H is displayed and same if it's 3 lower than a L is displayed - otherwise an X is displayed. I can't figure out how to do this. Here's my test code for game 2 for just one of the digits - any help is appreciated.   So I have to find THE SECOND LARGEST NUMBER IN A LIST. I am doing it through simple loops.My approach is I am going to divide a list into two parts and then find the largest number into two parts and then compare two nuumbers. I will choose the smaller number from two of them. I can not use ready functions or different approaches. To complete the work fast we have created a macro that has been updated on all the machines. This macro corrects the font, size and formatting. How can I ensure and implement that nobody can change/replace or delete this macro from their system? In case this happens I should get an alert. I have to use the file as a word collection, and use it to search the occurrence of each user-given words from the collection. I am using this process as a small part in my project. I need a method for finding out the number of occurrence of given words in a faster and correct manner since i may use it in iterations. But this should of course be removed again if i detach the external displays (and restart). Can i configure this use case by using Gnome Panel-profiles? I read that there is a startup option "--profile" for gnome-panel, but i don't know how and where i could switch the profile, especially because this has to be done after recognizing the number of displays. Or can i add a general Gnome profile and switch between those profiles somehow to achieve this behavior?

• Dual-boot two instances of the same copy of Vista using same serial number

  I have a single Vista OEM registration number which has been registered to the current hardware (single partition only), and I want to use it for two instances of dual-booted Vista... Because both Vistas will be running on the same hardware, (and obviously only one at any one time), will they both be recognized as genuine to Windows Update etc... ie will they both pass the Windows Genuine Advantage requirements? .. The only difference between the hardware involved will be the partition. Also, are there any special issues with dual (tripple?) booting two instances of Vista and also one Ubuntu OS?

• Open source command line tools for indexing a large number of text files

  I'm looking for any open source command line tool or tools which will allow me to index and search a large number of plain text files. Approximate search would be a plus. The tool only needs to print the files that match, although some match context would be useful. A GUI tool isn't useful for my application, nor is anything that searches files one by one (grep for example). I'm basically targeting unix platforms (osx, linux, bsd). EDIT: I'm not interested in any sort of tool that is system-wide, or needs to run in the background. Basically, I want to build an index for a directory tree full of text files and then later be able to search against it. Preferably the index is one or a few files that I can specify the location of. Any ideas?

This is where the variable PT_FILESTOKEEP comes in. Whatever number this is set to thats the amount of backups I want to keep. All backups are time stamped so by ordering them by name DESC will give you the latest first. Can anyone please help me with the rest of the BASH script to add the clean up of files? My knowledge of BASH is lacking and I'm unable to piece together the code to do the rest.
