• List of recent motherboards with BIOS / without UEFI [on hold]

  I am building a new desktop PC and I want to have full disk encryption on it. TrueCrypt doesn't support UEFI as of now. Are there still recent motherboards out there without UEFI ? I didn't find any list and I am afraid that I will have to study each potential candidate's technical sheet before purchase. I want to buy 2 or 3 of the same model to be future proof. Newegg links will not help, I don't live in the USA ... this means that this post is a legitimate target for PRISM ;-) Thanks for your help.

  I need to allow users to run a limited set of commands. But not to allow them to create interactive sessions. Just like GitHub does. If you try to ssh without a command it greetings you and close the session. I can acquire this by using ForceCommand some-script But getting in some-script i then need to eval user's input. Perhaps any other NoTTY-like option in sshd_config? --- UPDATE --- i'm looking for a pure SSH / Bash solution, not Perl/Python/etc. hacks.

  I have a 32GB .tar.gz archive and I'd like to know the size of the files if I unpack this compressed archive. I'd like to avoid unpacking the archive first and than use e.g. du. Is it also possible to find out the size of the contained files without unpacking the compressed archive (on a Linux and/or MacOSX system)? For another archive I know, that it also contains .tar.gz files. Is it also possible to calculate the size of the unpacked archives that are contained within an archive? (for example by setting a level to which the "unpacking" should be simulated?)

  So my father has changed the router passwords, and programed the router to turn my wifi connection off automaticly at some times, for example at night. I wanted to know if there is any way I can trick this feature? Can i change my ip in some way, the router won't recognize my ip, so my new ip would have internet connection? Is it any way i can get into the router settings and turn that feature off without knowing the router password? Would be happy if I could get replies as soon as possible!

  I'm running a Debian Linux. I'd like to have a user account that is able to connect via SSH for TCP-forwarding only, without a command prompt. e.g the following would work (from a remote computer): ssh -D1234 user@myhost but no command prompt would appear. Using a shell like /bin/false or /sbin/nologin is too restrictive as it doesn't even allow the user to log in. A shell that only allows the "exit" or Ctrl+D commands would do the job. I know that something similar is possible to allow only SFTP, but I can't find the equivalent for TCP forwarding. Thanks

I want to remote desktop connection to my friend over the internet, but I don't have premission for port forwarding on the router, and my friend also can't configure his router.   My datacenter says that each rack has primary and backup power on each rack. I assume this means there is a UPS for each server. Therefore, do I have any need of getting a BBU for the following setup? Intel Cherry 520 SSD x 4 RAID 10 LSI-9260 with WRITEBACK CACHE ENABLED I have heard that without a BBU the data in the cache could be lost. Since my needs aren't mission-critical, I can afford to lose some data. But would the rest of the data on the HD be corrupted?

  I'm trying to make an iso file which will boot without any key-press from the user. In Windows iso files, when booting from a cd, there is a message "press any key to boot from cd" which will wait for 5-10 seconds and then, if there is no key-press, it will boot from HD. I searched the web for how to remove this message, and do not press any key and all the answers were "delete bootfix.bin" from the iso. I edited the iso (I've tried several iso files) to remove the bootfix.bin, but now the iso is not correct. Do you have any suggestions?

  Is there any way I can upload whole folders to my Dropbox account without the desktop application? I am syncing my home computer to a computer at university and the university computers do not allow users to install applications anywhere, meaning that I cannot use the Dropbox utility to share my folders. I've attempted to use the online utility (on the website) to share my files, but much of my work is spanned over dozens of files all within their own folders. All you can do with the upload feature on the website is upload files and for my projects this would take a long time.

  I have a bunch of compute clients working on jobs, saving output data to a NAS machine. All machines are centos 6.2. They mount it via automount NFS, with a timeout of 1200 (default config). The NAS machine needs to be restarted. If I can restart the machine within that 1200s (20 minute) window, will the clients just block on IO until it comes back up? A minor interruption (pause) in service is ok, as long as it doesn't cause the running processes to error out. If necessary I could loop through and SIGSTOP all job processes, restart and resume them -- I just don't want to break the open file handles. How can I run a restart like this without killing processes with open files?

  As you may know, Steam doesn't like no-admin accounts for installing games or whatsoever. In my case, I have a user in my computer that usually install a lot of games and every time I have to put my password to successfully play them. Blame, /bin/SteamService.exe. I came up with a solution: using RunAs to make Steam run as the admin user. But that is a potential security risk. So instead of that, I'm asking if is possible to do the following: Hot to run SteamService.exe with high trust levels (or admin privileges) automatically when Steam calls it? That way he can play and install games in Steam leaving the rest of the system alone. I don't mind if the user has to click "yes or no", but without prompt its better because some games asks every time they're executed.

It will just need to run a script when it's installed on the destination system (i.e. I just need the %install portion of the spec file). I've left both %build and %configure sections of my rpm spec file empty, yet rpmbuild continues to try and execute ./configure with a bunch of parameters. Does anyone know how I can have rpmbuild create the rpm without trying to run ./configure? Thanks.

  Hi, I have an InnoDB table for visitors' counting, which has perfectly worked for several years, but it failed twice yesterday, may be cause of the increase of visitors Without apparent reason, this table locked, with hundreds of DELETE an REPLACE INTO queries (+500) with "updating" or "cleaning up" status. (I've no more the copy of the processlist...) This table contains few entries, between 500 and 1500, so the updating queries are usualy very fast and don't lock. I don't know where I must search to find the cause of this problem and resolve it definitively.   i'm having trouble installing mercurial 1.5 (build 20100307) from the prebuilt installer on os x 10.5.8. the installer is halting telling me that i need to install python 2.6 to continue. i've installed the latest version of python (2.6.5) twice now but its not helping. which python is reporting /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin/python, but i can see that i also have 2.3 and 2.5 in /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions directory, which i suspect is being picked up by the installer ahead of the 2.6 install. if possible i'd like to install mercurial and python without having to resort to MacPorts, but if that is the only option then so be it :)

They suggest to choose the way you want... with or without dash and create a 301 permanent redirect to the preferred way. So if I choose without dash, when I try to access http://domain.com/products/ it will return a 301 to the link without dash: http://domain.com/products.
