  I've got various flash files stored on my server. For this exmaple - here is the directory structure: Files Example - example.swf - example.xml So then on a separate webpage stored in the root of my server.. i'm embeding the flash. ... <param name="movie" value="http://www.example.com/Files/Example/example.swf"> ... Now the issue comes. Because the .swf is trying to access example.xml ... which is NOT stored in the root directory. How can I fix this problem? (I'd rather not use an iframe)

• Bound a treeview control to user-defined complex type using EF 4

  Hi, I use Asp.net, SQL 2008 and EF 4. I need display hierarchy data in a treeview control, Data is stored in a DB that use HierarchyId. Unfortunately, EF4 doesn't support HierarchyId. So in this case, I thought to have a stored procedure that deals with my hierarchy and return a result set back to EF that EF4 can turn into a collection of user-defined complex type that can then be bound directly to the treeview control. I imported a SPROC in EF 4 using Import Function and now I have a Complex DataType called: CategoryHierarchy_Result An image of my Model: Here some data from the Complex Type (in a GridView for example GridView1.DataSource = context.CategoryHierarchy(1);): My questions is: How to display my data from my Complex Type in a TreeView Control, showing a Tree structure that respect CategoryNodeString?   Hi all, i have a question that's being around for several years. As all you know entity framework is an ORM tool that tries to model the database to an object oriented access model. All the samples I've seen are quering directly to the database tables. So, which is the role of the views in the database now?. The views were used to model the database in a more friendly way, that is, several physical tables, one logic table. This was great for example in hidding the complex relational model on stored procedures as queryng the views inside them was much easier than reproducing the query joins over and over on each stored procedure. So the question is, why is entity framework so good if stored procedures can not take benefit of it?

  Hi, I am using a dataset on the server, in this dataset I have a datatable that calls a stored procedure and returns column names from three tables. I call this stored procedure using a web service. I manage to show all the column names in my combobox but when I want to click a button and insert selected column name into a richtextbox I get System.Data.DataRowView in the textbox instead. • "lock request time out period exceeded" Error When Trying to See DB Hierarchies

  I have a DB that I can run basic queries (albeit much slower than normal) off of. When I try to see the hierarchy trees for tables, views, or procedures in SSMS Object Explorer, I get the "lock request time out period exceeded". My Report Server reports that run off of objects in this DB are no longer completing. Jobs associated with procedures stored on this DB also do not run. I tried using sp_who2 to find and kill all connections on the DB. This has not solved the problem. What is going on here? How can I resolve this?

AND you can use sp_start_job to execute the job immediately, effectively running SSIS packages on demand. Question: does anyone know of any msdb.dbo.[...] stored procedures that simply allow you to run SSIS packages on the fly without using sp_cmdshell directly, or some easier approach?

• slow record deletion with large ntext values

  I'm having trouble deleting some records via a stored procedure from a table in SQLServer 2008R2 that has ntext columns. The stored proc is timing out and running the query directly takes a very long time. The initial query was a straight "delete from y where x = z" and I've also tried running it in batches of 1000 with transactions but it is still slow and timing out in a stored proc. The majority of the records in the table will not be deleted each time (it's not just a once-off query but will be run other times). The ntext columns are not used in the where clause and I can't change the column types. Any suggestions on the quickest way to delete records with large ntext values? Thanks

  Hi, I have a DB with game data (map, players, etc...) and I have a game core mechanics writen in T-SQL stored procedure. I need process game loop (via the stored procedure) every "X" seconds. I tried used the SQL Job, but when I set the interval to seconds, the SQL server stops responding. If I set the interval greater than one minute, all was ok. I need game loop precise in time, e.g. the game loop will run only once and will be executed every "X" precisely (tolerance should be less than one second). Can I do it with MS SQL Server capabilities? Or should I create a windows service which will repeatly execute game loop procedure? Or should I go another way? Thanks! EDIT: The game loop stored procedure takes less than the interval.

• Special characters incongruence

  Hello I'm building a Spring MVC web application that runs on Tomcat 6.0.20 and JDK 1.6.0_19. When I send some special characters through an HTML form some of them are stored as question marks ? For example these symbols are stored correctly: €, á, é, í, ‰, etc But some symbols are replaced with ? like: £, ?, ? MySQL tables charset is utf-8. My jsp also use utf-8 <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8" %> I have included org.springframework.web.filter.CharacterEncodingFilter in web.xml as suggested here When I debug the POST request when sending 3 characters €a£ with firebug I get: %E2%82%ACa%E2%82%A4 which is correct since E2 82 AC is the code for € and E2 82 A4 is the code for £ but £ is stored as ? in the database. When I save £ directly into the database it is displayed correctly in the webpage. How can I fix this?

• Database permissions and ORMs

  I've been using .NET's Entity Framework a lot lately and have absolutely no wish to go back to using Stored Procedures. Been shocked though that the company I'm building this project for had a policy where applications were only given accounts that only had permissions to access stored procedures! Apparently, they believe that there's a security risk involved in allowing applications to access the tables/views directly. I don't get this. My first question is, can someone enlighten me as to what kind of security risk applications having direct access to the database may pose? AND If that's the case, are there any other ORM solutions that can provide a workaround to this (I can't think of any logical possibility atm) that would allow me to circumvent the restrictions on the user account to be assigned to me? OR is my understanding that I'd need direct permissions for the tables and views wrong?

• How to generate multiple Alter Scripts in SSMS

  I'm using sql server management studio 2008 to try and generate an alter script for each of my stored procedures in order to save the scripts for each revision. I can easily generate an alter script for each individual procedure, but I'm not trying to go through a hundred stored procedures manually. I know that SSMS has an automated generate scripts function under task, but the only options are create, drop and create, and drop. I cant seem to figure out how to enable alter. I've already searched through many SO articles, as well as a little digging in msdn, and I've come up with nothing. I'm hoping that the fine people of stackoverflow will be up to the challenge. • Storing apostrophes, exclamation marks, etc. in mysql database

  I changed from latin1 to utf8. Although all sorts of text was displaying fine I noticed non-english characters were stored in the database as weird symbols. I spent a day trying to fix that and finally now non-english characters display as non-english characters in the database and display the same on the browser. However I noticed that I see apostrophes stored as &#39; and exclamation marks stored as &#33;. Is this normal, or should they be appearing as ' and ! in the database instead? If so, what would I need to do in order to fix that?

  Hello, everybody! I have a file in which a matrix is stored. This file has a RandomAccessFile type. This matrix is stored by columns. I mean that in an i-th row of this matrix an i-th column (of a real matrix) is stored. There is an example: i-th row: 1 2 3 4 (in the file). That means that the real matrix has an i-th column: (1 2 3 4)(transpose). I need to save this matrix in natural way (by rows) in a new file, which I will then open with FileReader and display with TestArea. DO you know, how to do that? If so, please help =)

Now I want to add a condition in the installer like if there is any error while installing, I want to undo all the changes done in SQL server.   Hey guys, I am new to android programming and i am trying to make an app that will interface with a website i have. It is a movie website with all of its information stored in SQL database. I know how to write the requests and queries in .asp but dont know how to get information from the database in my app. I want the user to be able to enter a movie title, and through a couple of stored procedures that are in my SQL database, return the info on that movie(actor, budget, genre....). I would like to have little info stored on the device, have all of the queries being sent to my SQL server and just have the info being returned. • How can I allow only privledged users to download a pdf with php?

  Lets say I have some pdf files stored on my server and I only want to allow a person who's paid have access to download a particular pdf. So for an example, let's say I have a bunch of e-books. The only way a user would be able to download e-book A is if his account contains the right credentials for that particular book. What's the best way to accomplish this? Any ideas/advice on how to improve my idea are greatly appreciated! My current idea: A user places an order Upon success, a new folder would be created by their /account_num/order_id/ A copy of the particular file would be stored in this directory Have php generate an .htaccess that would only allow access from a url that contains a random hash embedded into it. The only way a user would be able to access this random hashed page is if they are signed in as the right user, and the hash matches up with the hash stored in the database, otherwise they are redirected to home page.

  Hi! I have created a web app that is almost finished. I need it to confirm new emails. I just want to know if the these are the right procedures for that, because I'm not familiar with this. I create a new table called "confirmEmails" with only one column with uniqueId. A unique Id is created with PHP: uniqueid() which is created directly after a user hit the submit button. And the php script stores it on the table. An email is sent together with a link www.domain.com/confirmEmail.php?uniqueId=kushfpuhrufhufhfhuhfheriufhehu. I have an another php script called confirmEmail.php that gets the value if uniqueId through the link with $_GET['uniqueId'];(maybe I shall use post instead her). And now it stores the new email in table called user Is it right procedures? Pls give me some feedback!

  As far as I can see, the usual (and best in my opinion) order for teaching iterting constructs in functional programming with Scheme is to first teach recursion and maybe later get into things like map, reduce and all SRFI-1 procedures. This is probably, I guess, because with recursion the student has everything that's necessary for iterating (and even re-write all of SRFI-1 if he/she wants to do so). Now I was wondering if the opposite approach has ever been tried: use several procedures from SRFI-1 and only when they are not enough (for example, to approximate a function) use recursion. My guess is that the result would not be good, but I'd like to know about any past experiences with this approach.

  Hi, I want to supply an output parameter to my stored proc. This output proc is returning byte[]. How do I do this? If I do the following: command.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@Bytes", SqlDbType.VarBinary)); command.Parameters[1].Direction = ParameterDirection.Output; I get: System.InvalidOperationException: Byte[][1]: the Size property has an invalid size of 0. This stored proc works fine in SQL Server when I execute it via the SSMS option "Execute Stored Procedure). Any ideas? Thanks
