  • Get C# Templates For VS 2008 Shell

    - by Onorio Catenacci
I've got VS 2008 Shell Integrated mode; I've got F# 2.0 on that installation. Till now this has worked fine for me because I've been hacking at F# code. Now though, I want to install Intellifactory's WebSharper. It looks like the Intellifactory templates assume that C# templates will be available because while it will create the F# portion of the solution it will not create the Web project in the solution with the complaint A problem was encountered creating the sub project 'Web Application'. The template specified cannot be found. Is there any place where I can get the C# stuff to add to this instance of VS 2008 Shell? Apologies in advance if this is a dup question but I've googled without much luck and I don't seem to find this here either. I've seen that about devenv /installvstemplates but that also fails with a message about needing to elevate privileges (which is odd since I try it under an admin user).

  • Way to dim outside windows / Turn the lights feature

    - by droidgren
I am looking for a way to replicate the "Dim out" or "Turn the lights off" feature (that can be seen on various video sites on the web) into Windows ? This will darken (dim out) the active window. It could be a windows shell extension/plugin or a video player plugin that has this feature. The reason for I am looking for this is that I have a rather large monitor and doesn't use the whole screen when watching movies.

  • Stopping httpd causes a process started from perl CGI script to receive SIGTERM

    - by Pranav Pal
I am running a shell script from a perl CGI script: #!/usr/bin/perl my $command = "./script.sh &"; my $pid = fork(); if (defined($pid) && $pid==0) { # background process system( $command ); } The shell script looks like this: #!/bin/sh trap 'echo trapped' 15 tail -f test.log When I run the CGI script from browser, and then stop httpd using /etc/init.d/httpd stop, the script receives a SIGTERM signal. I was expecting the script to run as a separate process and not be tied in anyway to httpd. Though I can trap the SIGTERM, I would like to understand why the script is receiving SIGTERM at all. What wrong am I doing here? I am running RHEL 5.8 and Apache HTTP server 2.4. Thanks, Pranav

  • What exactly interpret #!/bin/bash line?

    - by vava
Many scripts in different languages have a #!/bin/bash header with a path to interpreter, so they can be executed without explicit call to interpreter from command line. But what exactly reads this line and run the interpreter, is it shell or kernel?

  • Where to put my backup.sh?

    - by Temnovit
I'm writing a shell script that will make backups of my system ( like this: https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverguide/C/backup-shellscripts.html ). What is the best location in my system, to store this file? I know, I can put it anywhere, but what will be if it will be stored in a directory being backed up? What is the best practice here? I'm running an Ubuntu-server.

  • Ending tail -f started in a shell script

    - by rangalo
    I have the following. A Java process writing logs to the stdout A shell script starting the Java process Another shell script which executes the previous one and redirects the log I check the log file with the tail -f command for the success message. Even if I have exit 0 in the code I cannot end the tail -f process. Which doesn't let my script to finish. Is there any other way of doing this in Bash? The code looks like the following. function startServer() { touch logfile startJavaprocess > logfile & tail -f logfile | while read line do if echo $line | grep -q 'Started'; then echo 'Server Started' exit 0 fi done }

  • Automake thumbnail

    - by Webmaster
What I need to do is a program that given (as a command line argument) a directory with more directoreies inside, and 4 Pics inside of each dir, the program makes a thumbnail of the 4 files and glues them together (2 rows, 2 columns) and renames that image to the name of the directory. I think it could be done with a combination of a program and shell scripting (I'm experienced in M$, but new to linux). Some real examples would be great. Thanx in advance

  • ssh, "Last Login", `last` and OS X

    - by allentown
I have hit the googles as much as I can on this, being specific to OS X, I am not finding an answer. Nothing is wrong, but curiosity levels are high. $ssh [email protected] Password: Last login: Wed Apr 7 21:28:03 2010 from my-laptop.local ^lonely tylenol^ Line 1 is my command line 2 is the shell asking for the password line 3 is where my question comes from line 4 comes out of /etc/motd I can find nothing in ~/ of an of the .bash* files that contains the string "Last Login", and would like to alter it. It performs some type of hostname lookup, which I can not determine. If I ssh to another host: $ssh [email protected] Last login: Wed Apr 7 21:14:51 2010 from 123-234-321-123-some.cal.isp.net.example hi there, you are on box 456 line 1 is my command line 2 is again, where my question comes from line 3 is from /etc/motd *The dash'd IP address is not reversed On this remote host, I have ~/.ssh and it's corresponding keys set up, so there was no password request Where is the "Last Login:" coming from, where does the date stamp come from, and most importantly, where does the hostname come from? While on [email protected] (box 456) $echo hostname remote.location.example456.com Or with dig, to make sure I have rDNS/PTR set up, for which I am not authoritative, but my ISP has correctly set... $dig -x 123.234.321.123 PTR remote.location.example456.com or $dig PTR 123.321.234.123.in-addr.arpa. +short remote.location.example456.com. my previous hostname used to be 123-234-321-123-some.cal.isp.net.example, which I set with hostname -s remote.location.example456.com, because it was obnoxious to see such a long name. That solves the value of $echo hostname which now returns remote.location.example456.com. Mac OS X, 10.6 is this case, does seem to honor: touch ~/.hushlogin If leave that file empty, I get nothing on the shell when I login. I want to know what controls the host resolution of the IP, and how it is all working. For example, running last reports a huge list of my logins, which have obtusely long hostnames, when they would be preferable to just be remote.location.example456.com. More confusing to me, reading the man page for wtmp and lastlog, it looks like lastlog is not used on OS X, /var/log/lastlog does not exist. Actually, none of these exist on 10.5 or 10.6: /var/run/utmp The utmp file. /var/log/wtmp The wtmp file. /var/log/lastlog The lastlog file. If I am to assume that the system is doing some kind of reverse lookup, I certainly do not know what it is, as it is not an accurate one.

  • Windows 7 Favorite folder doesn't work

    - by Razor Storm
So recently I did a very stupid thing and accidentally deleted my APPDATA (LOL yes), and now the favorite folder doesn't work anymore. The favorite folder I am refering to is the one in windows explorer (not the horrid IE) in windows 7, which appears on the left of windows explorer windows. The %USERPROFILE%/Favorite folder still works correctly, but the favorite folder in the shell doesn't point there, instead it points to a nonexistant and broken location, how do i fix this problem?

  • Find out how many DNS Queries/month via WHM or SSH?

    - by Kerry
Is it possible? We have complete control over our DNS server and the server actually being pointed to. We are interested in how many DNS Queries we are currently getting, as we want to move to Ultra DNS, but we need to know how many queries we're likely to get in a month. Is this possible to figure out? Do I need to start a service before tracking begins? Or use shell to access the data?

  • Django shell command to change a value in json data

    - by crozzfire
I am a django newbie and i was playing around in django's manage.py shell. Here is something i am trying in the shell: >>> data [{'primary_program': False, 'id': 3684}, {'primary_program': True, 'id': 3685}] >>> data[0] {'primary_program': False, 'id': 3684} >>> data[1] {'primary_program': True, 'id': 3685} >>> data[0].values() [False, 3684] >>> data[1].values() [True, 3685] >>> How should i give a command here to update the value of primary_program in data[1] to False and keep the rest of the json the same?

  • Linux servers going into Halt when pressing Control-D in putty or exit in the shell

    - by Itai Ganot
Since today at noon, there's a number of Linux CentOS servers which are going to Halt whenever i type exit or use Control-D to close the putty window. Did anyone encounter this weird behavior before? I've checked the aliases list on the servers and there is no alias regarding halt command. After the server came online i've checked the history and saw a "logout" command there but nothing which is related to Halt. At first, i thought it happens only from my computer but later i realized that it happens to everyone which types exit, logout or control+d. 2 of these server are our main iptables firewalls and so it's super critical, your assistance is much appreciated. It looks like that, and it only happens on servers with active IPTables: [root@srv1 bin]# ssh srv2 root@srv2's password: Last login: Sun Nov 11 17:19:41 2012 from 192.168.12.98 [root@srv2 ~]# vim /etc/crontab [root@srv2 ~]# exit logout Broadcast message from root (pts/1) (Tue Nov 13 10:44:04 2012): The system is going down for system halt NOW! Connection to srv2 closed. [root@srv1 bin]# In my troubleshooting steps i came across the command strace, and so i've opened two bash windows to one of the problematic server and i used strace -p PID_of_bash. When i typed in exit in the first shell it did go to halt, attached is the strace output, if you can check it out and tell me if you see anything suspicious i'd be more than thankful. • What are good CLI tools for JSON?

    - by jasonmp85
General Problem Though I may be diagnosing the root cause of an event, determining how many users it affected, or distilling timing logs in order to assess the performance and throughput impact of a recent code change, my tools stay the same: grep, awk, sed, tr, uniq, sort, zcat, tail, head, join, and split. To glue them all together, Unix gives us pipes, and for fancier filtering we have xargs. If these fail me, there's always perl -e. These tools are perfect for processing CSV files, tab-delimited files, log files with a predictable line format, or files with comma-separated key-value pairs. In other words, files where each line has next to no context. XML Analogues I recently needed to trawl through Gigabytes of XML to build a histogram of usage by user. This was easy enough with the tools I had, but for more complicated queries the normal approaches break down. Say I have files with items like this: <foo user="me"> <baz key="zoidberg" value="squid" /> <baz key="leela" value="cyclops" /> <baz key="fry" value="rube" /> </foo> And let's say I want to produce a mapping from user to average number of <baz>s per <foo>. Processing line-by-line is no longer an option: I need to know which user's <foo> I'm currently inspecting so I know whose average to update. Any sort of Unix one liner that accomplishes this task is likely to be inscrutable. Fortunately in XML-land, we have wonderful technologies like XPath, XQuery, and XSLT to help us. Previously, I had gotten accustomed to using the wonderful XML::XPath Perl module to accomplish queries like the one above, but after finding a TextMate Plugin that could run an XPath expression against my current window, I stopped writing one-off Perl scripts to query XML. And I just found out about XMLStarlet which is installing as I type this and which I look forward to using in the future. JSON Solutions? So this leads me to my question: are there any tools like this for JSON? It's only a matter of time before some investigation task requires me to do similar queries on JSON files, and without tools like XPath and XSLT, such a task will be a lot harder. If I had a bunch of JSON that looked like this: { "firstName": "Bender", "lastName": "Robot", "age": 200, "address": { "streetAddress": "123", "city": "New York", "state": "NY", "postalCode": "1729" }, "phoneNumber": [ { "type": "home", "number": "666 555-1234" }, { "type": "fax", "number": "666 555-4567" } ] } And wanted to find the average number of phone numbers each person had, I could do something like this with XPath: fn:avg(/fn:count(phoneNumber)) Questions Are there any command-line tools that can "query" JSON files in this way? If you have to process a bunch of JSON files on a Unix command line, what tools do you use? Heck, is there even work being done to make a query language like this for JSON? If you do use tools like this in your day-to-day work, what do you like/dislike about them? Are there any gotchas? I'm noticing more and more data serialization is being done using JSON, so processing tools like this will be crucial when analyzing large data dumps in the future. Language libraries for JSON are very strong and it's easy enough to write scripts to do this sort of processing, but to really let people play around with the data shell tools are needed. • How do I execute a shell-command in background?

    - by Adobe
    Here's a simple defun to run a shell script: (defun bk-konsoles () "Calls: bk-konsoles.bash" (interactive) (shell-command (concat (expand-file-name "~/its/plts/goodies/bk-konsoles.bash ") (if (buffer-file-name) (file-name-directory (buffer-file-name))) " &") nil nil)) If I start a program with no ampersand - it start the script, but blocks emacs until I close the program, if I don't put ampersand it gives error: /home/boris/its/plts/goodies/bk-konsoles.bash /home/boris/scl/geekgeek/: exited abnormally with code 1. Edit: So now I'm using: (defun bk-konsoles () "Calls: bk-konsoles.bash" (interactive) (shell-command (concat (expand-file-name "~/its/plts/goodies/bk-konsoles.bash ") (if (buffer-file-name) (file-name-directory (buffer-file-name))) " & disown") nil nil) (kill-buffer "*Shell Command Output*")) Edit 2: Nope - doesn't work: (defun bk-konsoles () "Calls: bk-konsoles.bash" (interactive) (let ((curDir default-directory)) ;; (shell-command (concat "nohup " (expand-file-name "~/its/plts/goodies/bk-konsoles.bash ") curDir) nil nil) (shell-command (concat (expand-file-name "~/its/plts/goodies/bk-konsoles.bash ") curDir "& disown") nil nil) (kill-buffer "*Shell Command Output*"))) keeps emacs busy - either with disown, or nohup. Here's a script I'm running if it might be of help: bk-konsoles.bash

  • How can invoke a shell to make a new environment to run a make inside another make?

    - by WilliamKF
I would like in my GNUmakefile to have a target rule that invokes a new shell and then with the clean slate of the new shell invokes a new make. What is the syntax to do this? I tried this but it didn't work: .PHONY: setup setup: shell cd myDir; make; cd .. It gets infinite repeat of the following error: make[1]: Entering directory `/disk4/home/user/parent' shell cd myDir; make; cd .. /bin/sh: shell: command not found make[1]: Entering directory `/disk4/home/user/parent' shell cd myDir; make; cd .. /bin/sh: shell: command not found [...]

  • SUA + Visual Studio + pthreads

    - by vasek7
Hi, I cannot compile this code under SUA: #include <unistd.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <pthread.h> void * thread_function(void *arg) { printf("thread_function started. Arg was %s\n", (char *)arg); // pause for 3 seconds sleep(3); // exit and return a message to another thread // that may be waiting for us to finish pthread_exit ("thread one all done"); } int main() { int res; pthread_t a_thread; void *thread_result; // create a thread that starts to run ‘thread_function’ pthread_create (&a_thread, NULL, thread_function, (void*)"thread one"); printf("Waiting for thread to finish...\n"); // now wait for new thread to finish // and get any returned message in ‘thread_result’ pthread_join(a_thread, &thread_result); printf("Thread joined, it returned %s\n", (char *)thread_result); exit(0); } I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with Visual Studio 2008 and 2010 and I have installed: Windows Subsystem for UNIX Utilities and SDK for Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications in Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Include directories property of Visual Studio project is set to "C:\Windows\SUA\usr\include" What I have to configure in order to compile and run (and possibly debug) pthreads programs in Visual Studio 2010 (or 2008)?

  • ZeroMQ REQ/REP on ipc:// and concurrency

    - by Metiu
I implemented a JSON-RPC server using a REQ/REP 0MQ ipc:// socket and I'm experiencing strange behavior which I suspect is due to the fact that the ipc:// underlying unix socket is not a real socket, but rather a single pipe. From the documentation, one has to enforce strict zmq_send()/zmq_recv() alternation, otherwise the out-of-order zmq_send() will return an error. However, I expected the enforcement to be per-client, not per-socket. Of course with a Unix socket there is just one pipeline from multiple clients to the server, so the server won't know who it is talking with. Two clients could zmq_send() simultaneously and the server would see this as an alternation violation. The sequence could be: ClientA: zmq_send() ClientB: zmq_send() : will it block until the other send/receive completes? will it return -1? (I suspect it will with ipc:// due to inherent low-level problems, but with TCP it could distinguish the two clients) ClientA: zmq_recv() ClientB: zmq_recv() so what about tcp:// sockets? Will it work concurrently? Should I use some other locking mechanism to work around this?

  • transferring binary files between systems

    - by tim
Hi guys I'm trying to transfer my files between 2 UNIX clusters, the data is pure numeric (vectors of double) in binary form. Unfortunately one of the systems is IBM ppc997 and the other is AMD Opteron, It seems the format of binary numbers in these systems are different. I have tried 3 ways till now: 1- Changed my files to ASCII format (i.e. saved a number at each line in a text file), sent them to the destination and changed them again to binary on the target system (they both are UNIX, no end of line character difference??!) 2- Sent pure binaries to the destination 3- used uuencode sent them to the destination and decoded them Unfortunately any of these methods does not work (my code in the destination system generates garbage, while it works on the first system, I'm 100% sure the code itself is portable). I don't know what else I can do? Do you have any idea? I'm not a professional, please don't use computer scientists terminology! And: my codes are in C, so by binary I mean a one to one mapping between memory and hard disk. Thanks

  • Mouse cursor in Terminal?

    - by marienbad
I use Mac OS X Terminal.app. But the answer to this would probably apply to any typical UNIX-ish terminal emulator in a graphical environment. Question -- what do I do to: Use my mouse cursor to click on a character-position in the current line of the terminal, and have the terminal's cursor jump to that spot? Typically, you have to hold down an arrow key to move to the correct cursor position. If you're pasting in a long string of text at the shell prompt, or working in an editor like VI, this can take a long time. I know editors have other navigation keys like jump-words, but I like my mouse cursor.
