The topic is about configuration management and version control system for an industrial product (such as a piece of software, a furniture design, a car engine or even an aeroplane design etc...) 1.) What is you field of expertise (IT, engineering, manufactuing etc..) and what is the configuration management and version control system you use (previously or now) for your work? 2.) • What are your build and release steps? When to increment build numbers?

  I am having trouble defining and automating my build process despite simple requirements: Every build should have a unique build number. Every tagged release should be reproducible What I have: A C++, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.x, Subversion development environment. A build machine ( actually a virtual machine ) A version.h file with #defines for major, minor, and buildnumber. A script for incrementing the version.h buildnumber. A rpmbuild spec file that exports the tagged Subversion source, builds, and makes the rpm installer packages. Questions: Assuming multiple developers per project, when should the build number be incremented and version.h file be checked-in? The build machine? Some sort of Subversion hook? • nested page-faulting of user-space address in Linux

  Hi, I would like to know if it is functionally wrong to page-fault a user-space address when kernel is running fault-handler to bring in a user-page. OS is Linux 2.6.30 Assume that both user-addresses are valid ( falling within vma , rw permission ) for the task. When I check the kernel code, i find that the kernel does not mind the nested fault if the faulted-addresses are valid and the fault did not occur in atomic-context or in irq handler. (I dont think the answer is cpu-specific, but I would add that i am interested in arm and mips ). eg : The scenario can happen if I print stack-data from page-fault handler. thanks shankar

• Huge file in Clojure and Java heap space error

  I posted before on a huge XML file - it's a 287GB XML with Wikipedia dump I want ot put into CSV file (revisions authors and timestamps). I managed to do that till some point. Before I got the StackOverflow Error, but now after solving the first problem I get: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space error. • How to increase Java heap space for a tomcat app

  There are lots of questions that ask this or a similar question. They all give the command that has to be executed, what I don't understand is where do I write this command. I want to permanently increase the heap space for my tomcat apps. I read this page http://javahowto.blogspot.com/2006/06/6-common-errors-in-setting-java-heap.html and it says under the Tomcat section Stop Tomcat server, set environment variable CATALINA_OPTS, and then restart Tomcat. Look at the file tomcat-install/bin/catalina.sh or catalina.bat for how this variable is used. For example, set CATALINA_OPTS=-Xms512m -Xmx512m (Windows, no "" around the value) export CATALINA_OPTS="-Xms512m -Xmx512m" (ksh/bash, "" around the value) setenv CATALINA_OPTS "-Xms512m -Xmx512m" (tcsh/csh, "" around the value) So I replaced the line set CATALINA_OPTS= with set CATALINA_OPTS=-Xms512m -Xmx512m But I still get the error.

  I am trying to create a dynamic hyperlink that depends on a value passed from a function: {% for item in field_list %} <a href={% url index_view %}{{ item }}/> {{ item }} </a> <br> {% endfor %} The problem is that one of the items in field_list is "Hockey Player". The link for some reason is dropping everything after the space, so it creates the hyperlink on the entire "Hockey Player", but the address is http://126.0.0.1:8000/Hockey How can I get it to go to http://126.0.0.1:8000/Hockey Player/ instead?

• Color space - RGB and YCbCr question

  Hello! I am now trying to understand how JPEG encoding works and everything seems fine except the color transformation part. Before attempting to do a DCT in JPEG algorithm, the image is transformed into YCbCr color space. To me this essentially means that we just (comparing to initial RGB image) take a chunk of color information and dispose it while applying the RGB -> YCbCr transformation. So, our encoding steps look generally like RGB -> YCbCr -> DCT -> Huffman. The decoding means inversing this process. And my question is - why does the image (for example, created and exported to JPEG) remain the same in terms of color, although we have to make inverse YCbCr -> RGB transform. Where does the disposed part of color information comes from or how is it handled?

  I sometimes find myself discussing this issue with other C# developers and especially if we use different styles. I can see the advantage of tab indentation allowing different developers to browse the code with their favorite indent size. Nonetheless, I long ago went for two space indentation in my C# code and have stuck with it ever since. Mainly because I often disliked the way statements spanning multiple lines are sometimes messed up when viewing code from other developers using another tab size. Recently a developer at one of my clients approached me and asked why I did not use tabs because he preferred to view code with an indentation size of 4. So my question is: Which style do you prefer and why?

• Problems crossing the boundary between protected greasemonkey execution space and the unsafeWindow l

  Hi guys. Here is my problem: I've registered some callbacks into a Yahoo event driven webpage (betfair.com market views) and am trapping the betsPlaced events with a handler. So far so simple. Next stage is to get the event back into greasemonkey land, and while I know that from greasemoney space you can call unsafeWindow.stuff, there is no reverse operation (by design). So if I want to send the contents of the event over, say, a cometd queue, my carefully set up jquery, greasemonkey, YUI2, betfair environment fails by telling me that unsafeWindow processes cant call GM_ajax stuff. This is obviously safe and sane, but it basically stops me doing what I want to do. Has anyone tried doing this (ignore the cometd stuff, just general ajax calls) and succeeded? I've had a look at pages like this: http://wiki.greasespot.net/0.7.20080121.0%2B_compatibility but it doesnt appear to work for all the calls.

• weird space in IE - Any suggestions?

  The below table is the only element inside a body tag - This displays fine in Firefox 3 as i expect it to be but it does not look good in IE7. There is a weird space just between the nested table and the row above. • Set asisde space for ADT when reading integers from file

  I'm using C to make maze solver. The program should be able read a maze from a text file containing a grid of 1 and 0 representing walls and paths. This file could be of any size as the user selects which maze to use. The program should then show the maze being solved. As the maze is being solved it should show where has been walked and how many steps have been taken. I have made an ADT called Cell containing a bool for wall or path and an integer for steps taken. I now need to populate a 2D array of Cells which means I need to set aside enough space to store a Cell for every integer in the maze file. What would be the best way to do this?

  I have a large scientific computing task that parallelizes very well with SMP, but at too fine grained a level to be easily parallelized via explicit message passing. I'd like to parallelize it across address spaces and physical machines. Is it feasible to create a scheduler that would parallelize already multithreaded code across multiple physical computers under the following conditions: The code is already multithreaded and can scale pretty well on SMP configurations. The fact that not all of the threads are running in the same address space or on the same physical machine must be transparent to the program, even if this comes at a significant performance penalty in some use cases. You may assume that all of the physical machines involved are running operating systems and CPU architectures that are binary compatible. Things like locks and atomic operations may be slow (having network latency to deal with and all) but must "just work".

  The batch file is something like this, I put the python in some directory that has SPACE character in its path. C:\"Documents and Settings"\Administrator\Desktop\bracket\python\python C:\\"Documents and Settings"\\Administrator\\Desktop\\bracket\\[10,20]\\brackettest.py When I run this one, I get this error. Wrapping the path doesn't solve this problem. "C:\\Documents and Settings\\Administrator\\Desktop\\bracket\\[10,20]\\brackettest.py" Are the brackets ('[]') cause of the problem? On Mac, python works well with bracket character.

  In the app.config file if I use <add key = "FileDelimeter" value ="&#2c;"/> as unicode for COMMA, it is throwing error Invalid character in a decimal number 'c' For SPACE, <add key = "FileDelimeter" value ="&#20;"/> the error is Character'', hex value 0*14 is illegal in xml while <add key = "FileDelimeter" value ="&#09;"/> for "\t" worked. This web service must dlls of .NET Framework 3.5 (I have error about System.Linq using when I try to browse the web site) The only place I found where it is possible to change .NET Framework version is application pools management, but The only two options I have are: no management code and .NET Framework 2. In add/remove programs I have .NET Framework 3.5 installed and event does to it repair and iisreset, but I still have only to options in application pools management. Any ideas? Thank you for ahead.

• How to install specific version of MySQL?

  I installed from the repo, 5.0.77... including setup of PowerDNS (and the backend for MySQL). I tried setting up replication from my Master (which is MySQL 5.1.53) but it didn't work even though there were no errors, nothing got replicated. So the last resort is to try the same MySQL version on both the master and the slave (nb, only the slave has pdns installed) How would I go about installing MySQL 5.1.53? I tried downloading the rpm from MySQL (obviously the wrong one, didn't even include the mysql command to shell into the databases), but in turn fucked up the dependencies for pdns' mysql backend. I have the atomic repo which will install MySQL 5.5 (both on my Master server and Slave), but I don't want to do a major upgrade on the master right now as it's in production. Would love some advice!

  I try to use a program and I get the following error. /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.15' not found Under /usr/lib64 the libstdc++ I see is libstdc++.so.6.0.13 (and a soft link). With strings libstdc++.so.6.0.13 | grep GLIBCXX I get GLIBCXX_3.4 GLIBCXX_3.4.1 GLIBCXX_3.4.2 GLIBCXX_3.4.3 GLIBCXX_3.4.4 GLIBCXX_3.4.5 GLIBCXX_3.4.6 GLIBCXX_3.4.7 GLIBCXX_3.4.8 GLIBCXX_3.4.9 GLIBCXX_3.4.10 GLIBCXX_3.4.11 GLIBCXX_3.4.12 GLIBCXX_3.4.13 GLIBCXX_FORCE_NEW GLIBCXX_DEBUG_MESSAGE_LENGTH With cat /etc/redhat-release I get Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation release 6.4 (Santiago) So the question in what should I do in order to fix that. • Windows 7 MSDN version

  I recently purchased a copy of Windows 7 online. Upon trying to install, it stopped and I was told that it could not find a 64 bit driver for my CD/DVD and I could not finish install. I contacted Microsoft and was told that this was something called an MSDN version according to the product key and that was the reason for the problem. They also said is was illegal to sell it to me. The company I bought it from never returned my calls or emails and luckily I got money back through Amazon. Amazon didn't even want me to send it back. Anyway my question is, is there anyway to load this onto my system and will I have problems or should I just throw it out? Any help would be great. Thanks

• Windows not showing version (or other resources) for files in tooltip

  Whenever I hover the mouse cursor over executable file types (.exe, .dll, etc.) in Windows Explorer, it only shows the Type, Size, and (Modified) Date of the file in the tooltip instead of the Company, Version, Description, etc. This used to work in Windows XP, but Windows 7 is showing me less information which is frustrating because I often need that information to be quickly and easily available (no, opening the Properties dialog or adding columns is not a solution). How can I get Explorer to show me all the relevant information for the files in the tooltip? (Bonus points for also showing it in the Preview pane at the bottom.)

• cmd.exe version comparison?

  When using batch files or console applications on Windows servers the window in question can allow text to be hightlighted (marked) for copying and pasting. Doing this pauses the batch/application and it will only resume after the copy operation. Or this is what I thought to be true. Recently on a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 server I noted that whilst the scrolling was paused the operations were not. Does anyone know if my description in the 1st para is true for older windows is not true for Windows 2003 R2 SP2 when it changed a full version comparison table for cmd.exe across different OS' ? Thanks for reading (Windows 2000 tag as that was the OS I used most before 2003 R2)

• grep pattern interpretted differently in 2 different systems with same grep version

  We manufacture a linux appliance for data centers, and all are running fedora installed from the same kickstart process. There are different hardware versions, some with IDE hard drives and some SCSI, so the filesystems may be at /dev/sdaN or /dev/hdaN. We have a web interface into these appliances that show disk usage, which is generated using "df | grep /dev/*da". This generally works for both hardware versions, giving an output like follows: /dev/sda2 5952284 3507816 2137228 63% / /dev/sda5 67670876 9128796 55049152 15% /data /dev/sda1 101086 11976 83891 13% /boot However, for one machine, we get the following result from that command: Binary file /dev/sda matches It seems that its grepping files matching /dev/*da for an unknown pattern for some reason, only on this box that is seemingly identical in grep version, packages, kernel, and hardware. I switched the grep pattern to be "/dev/.da" and everything works as expected on this troublesome box, but I hate not knowing why this is happening. Anyone have any ideas? Or perhaps some other tests to try?
