  • SQL Server 2008 error message from stored procedure

    Hello everyone, I am using SQL Server 2008 Enterprise. When we met with such error message from stored procedure, Message 1205, Level 13, State 52, the process Pr_FooV2, Line 9 Services (Process ID 111) and another process is deadlock in the lock | communication buffer resources, and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction. I am wondering whether such messages are stored in log files? I searched log folder of my SQL Server 2008 installation root (in my environment, it is C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Log), but can not find such files. thanks in advance, George

  • Export Certificate Windows Server 2008

    I need to export the private key of a self-created SSL-certificate on a Windows Server 2008. However at Microsoft Management Console (the certificate is located, if it matter, in Personal-Certificate folder) the option "Yes, export the private key" is greyed out. Reading the provided help section it tells that the certificate needed to "be made exportable" during creation. However it also says that it is ONLY a limitation if it was created using Windows Server 2003. It doesn´t say anything how to fix it though on a Windows 2008 Server. The certificate is self-signed. I want to export to PKCS12 format. I´m accessing MMC as administrator so there should not be any permission issues. How can I make this certificate "exportable"?

  • alias not working on sql server 2008 r2

    I have several servers with SQL Server 2008 R2 instances on them, and alias doesn't work on any of them. Clients connect to these servers using TCP/IP without any problem, telnet works on IP/Port I use for my alias, the firewall exceptions are created, basically everything works fine, except when I create an alias, I can not connect through it to my server using either TCP/IP or named pipes (local or one of other servers). I've installed latest cumulative updates, which updates native client too (which I think is the source of problem) and I still have the problem. The stranger part is, if I create an alias on a server with sql server 2005 (native client 9), I can connect to my 2008 r2 instances. Any suggestions?

  • Cannot attach to a service in VS 2008

    I have created a service in VS 2008 called EmailReader. I have compiled, installed and started the service. Its timer loop is writing records to a log file, so I can see that it is running. I am trying to attach to it in VS 2008, but the process name is greyed out in the list of available processes, and the name is "EmailReader.vshost.exe" instead of "EmailReader.exe". There is probably a simple answer, but I don't know it. Do you?

    I'm running the following statement, it is working locally with SQL Server 2008, however, there is SQL Server 2008 Express on the development server, and after the sql statement runs, I am unable to do SELECT statements on the table in which I deleted the record. Both databases were created with the same table creation scripts. "DELETE FROM [dbo].[tblMiddayMover] WITH (ROWLOCK) WHERE [idMiddayMover] = @IdMiddayMover" What reasons would this statement ever cause the database to hang. After executing that statement, the following SELECT statement causes an error. "SELECT * FROM [dbo].[tblMiddayMover] WHERE [fldActive] = 1" I get the following error: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. I can do select statements on any other table with no issues.

  • Dart and NetBeans IDE 7.4

    Here's the start of Dart in NetBeans IDE. Basic Dart editing support is done and on saving a Dart file the related JavaScript files are automatically generated. In the context of an HTML5 application in NetBeans IDE, that gives you deep integration with the embedded browser and, even better, Chrome, as well as Chrome Developer Tools. Below, notice that the "Sunflower Spectacular" H1 element is selected (click the image to enlarge it to get a better view), which is therefore highlighted in the live DOM view in the bottom left, as well as in the CSS Styles window in the top right, from where the CSS styles can be edited and from where the related files can be opened in the IDE. Identical features are available for Chrome, as well as on Android and iOS. And if you like that, watch this YouTube movie showing how Chrome Developer Tools integration can fit directly into the workflow below. Anyone want to help get this plugin further? What's needed: Much deeper Dart editing support, i.e., right now only very basic syntax coloring is provided, i.e., an ANTLR lexer is integrated into the NetBeans syntax coloring infrastructure. Parsing, error checking, code completion, and some small code templates are needed. A new panel is needed in the Project Properties dialog on NetBeans HTML5 projects for enabling Dart (i.e., similar to enabling Cordova), at which point the "dart.js" file and other Dart artifacts should be added to the project, so that a Dart project is immediately generated and the application should be immediately deployable. Whenever changes are made to a Dart file, Dart should run in the background to create the Dart artifacts in some hidden way, so that the user doesn't see all the Dart artifacts as is currently the case. Some way of recognizing Dart projects (there's a YAML file as an identifier) and creating NetBeans HTML5 projects from that, i.e., from Dart projects outside the IDE. I think that's all... The official Dart Editor is based on Eclipse and requires a massive download of heaps of Eclipse bundles. Compare that to the NetBeans equivalent, which is a very small "HTML5 and PHP" bundle (60 MB), available here, together with the above small Dart plugin. Plus, when you look at how NetBeans IDE integrates with a bunch of Google-oriented projects, i.e., Chrome, Chrome Developer Tools, and Android (via Cordova), that's a pretty interesting toolbox for anyone using Dart. And bear in mind that ANTLRWorks, Microchip, and heaps of other organizations have built and are building their tools on top of NetBeans!

    Just have found some funny behavior of the Visual Studio 2008 editor.  Sorry if it is already well known bug. If you happened to have a JavaScript function named “assert” in your code (and there is pretty high likelihood in my opinion), for example something like: function assert(x, message) { if (x) console.log(message); } then when either Format Document (Ctrl + K, Ctrl + D) or Format Selection (Ctrl + K, Ctrl + F) command is applied to the document/block containing the function, the result of the formatting will be: functionassert(x, message) { if (x) console.log(message); } That’s it. function and assert are now joined into one solid word. So be aware of the fact in case you suddenly start receiving  strange exception in your JavaScript code: missing ; before statement functionassert(x, message) And no, it is not an April Fool's joke.     I am getting the above error in IIS 6.0 now when I browse my C# / SQL web application. This was built in VS 2008 and SS 2008 on a 32-bit XP OS. The application was working before I added Login controls to it. However, this is my first time configuring Login/password controls so I am probably missing something really basic. The Network Service account has SELECT, EXECUTE, INSERT, UPDATE access to this database. But one problem I see is that all of the tables in this database are empty except for aspnet_SchemaVersions, which just has 2 records (common and membership). Is this right? I added users and roles via ASP.NET Configuration wizard, and I believe I set this up correctly since I followed the Microsoft tutorial at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998347.aspx. One other problem I see from VS is after adding content to my Page_Load on my initial login Password.aspx.cs file, I'm getting an invalid cast problem below. I googled this problem also but the solutions I saw confused me even more.   • Visual Studio Crashes when using Crystal Reports Group Editor

    I have a crystal report in my Visual Studio 2008 ASP.NET project, and when I choose "Group Expert" from the Crystal Reports - Report menu, Visual Studio crashes / hangs and I have to use Task Manager to close the program. This happens no matter how many times I try, and oddly enough it seems to work fine on another computer with the same project. Any help at all in the right direction would be greatly appreciated as I am pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. I am using Visual Studio 2008 SP1, SQL Server 2005 Developer SP2, Windows Vista Enterprise SP1, and the version of Crystal Reports that came with the Visual Studio installation.

I used this on my 32 bit box, and it worked first time. Stepping through it with the Visual Studio Macros IDE, it fails the first time on the DTE.ExecuteCommand("Edit.StopOutlining") line with a COM error (Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component). If I attempt to run it a second time, I can run it from the Macro Editor with no issue, but not from within Visual Studio with the macro explorer 'run macro' command.     So I have a web service system for mananging development projects, what I would like to do is create a visual studio plugin that accesses the web service and returns a list of tasks for the current users (via some sort of login). Looking round the internet I can't find any good examples or tutorials on how to create a visual studio plugin that can be docked to the bottom of the screen (same place as error list, test results, etc) Does anyone know of a good website I can look at for examples or tutorials of the basics of creating a visual studio plugin, specifically for VS2008?

    I just installed 'Visual C# 2008 Express Edition' and 'Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition' on my Vista machine. Previously I have been running these in Win XP. When launching the software, starting a new project and trying to build it I get warnings like "The referenced component 'System' could not be found."; one row for each namespace used. I have .NET Framework 3.5 installed and are able to browse through the tabs in 'Add reference', but I cannot make it work. (A re-install did not help.) Is there an easy fix?

  • Code Generation and IDE vs writing per Hand

    I have been programming for about a year now. Pretty soon I realized that I need a great Tool for writing code and learned Vim. I was happy with C and Ruby and never liked the idea of an IDE. Which was encouraged by a lot of reading about programming.[1] However I started with (my first) Java Project. In a CS Course we were using Visual Paradigm and encouraged to let the program generate our code from a class diagram. I did not like that Idea because: Our class diagram was buggy. Students more experienced in Java said they would write the code per hand. I had never written any Java before and would not understand a lot of the generated code. So I took a different approach and wrote all methods per Hand (getter and Setter included). My Team-members have written their parts (partly generated by VP) in an IDE and I was "forced" to use it too. I realized they had generated equal amounts of code in a shorter amount of time and did not spend a lot of time setting their CLASSPATH and writing scripts for compiling that son of a b***. Additionally we had to implement a GUI and I dont see how we could have done that in a sane matter in Vim. So here is my Problem: I fell in love with Vim and the Unix way. But it looks like for getting this job done (on time) the IDE/Code generation approach is superior. Do you have equal experiences? Is Java by the nature of the language just more suitable for an IDE/Code generated approach? Or am I lacking the knowledge to produce equal amounts of code "per Hand"?   • AT&T Application Resource Analyzer in NetBeans IDE

    Here at Øredev in Malmö I met Doug Sillars who does developer outreach for the AT&T Application Resource Optimizer. In this YouTube clip you see Doug explaining how it works and what it can do for optimizing performance of mobile applications. There's a free and open source Android app on GitHub that you can install on Android to collect data and then there's a Java Swing application for analyzing the results. And here's what that application looks like as a plugin in NetBeans IDE, click to enlarge the image, which shows the Android sources of the Data Collector, as well as the Data Analyzer ready to be used to collect data: Since the ARO Data Analyzer is written in Java and has JPanels defining its UI layer, integrating the user interface wasn't hard. Now working on the Actions, so there'll be a new ARO menu with start/stop data collecting menu items, etc, reusing as much of the original code as possible. That part is actually already working. I started up an Android emulator, then started the data collection process from the IDE. Now need to include the Actions for importing the data into the analyzer, together with a few other related features. A pretty cool feature in ARO is video capture, so that a movie can be made by ARO of all the steps taken on the device during the collection process, which will also be nice to have integrated into the NetBeans plugin. Ultimately, this will be handy for anyone creating Android applications in NetBeans IDE since they'll be able to use AT&T's ARO tool for optimizing the performance of the applications they're developing. It will also be useful for those using the built-in Cordova tools in NetBeans IDE to create iOS applications because ARO is also applicable to analyzing iOS application performance.

  • Does an inexperienced programmer need an IDE?

    Reading this other question makes me wonder if I (as an absolute beginner PHP programmer) should stick with WAMP and Notepad++ or to switch to some IDE like Eclipse. It's understandable that skilled developers will benefit from a big shiny IDE. But why should an absolute beginner use an IDE? Do the benefits outweigh the extra challenge of learning the IDE on top of learning to develop? Update for clarification: My goal is to get some basic programming experience. By choosing PHP and WAMP (and FogBugz and Kiln) I hope to avoid having to navigate the tricky / messy OS specifics and compiling etc. and just focus on basic functionality like an online user registration form. I've got lots of theoretical understanding from university a decade ago but no practical experience. I want to remedy that with a hobby project that would be similar to a real-world sellable web app. There are so many questions to ask. So many pitfalls I probably have to blunder into. This question is just one piece (my first!) of that puzzle.
