• Getting session authenticity token via ajax (rails, jquery)

  Hi folks, I wish to authenticate a user without having the page reloaded, and having the user submit a given form. However, the problem that I immediately run into here is that the authenticity token typically gets set when the page is reloaded. I need the authenticity token for the form submission, but i do not have it yet because the page is yet to reload. I figure this cannot be that rare - anyone has any idea on how to resolve this? 1 idea could be getting rails to pass back the authenticity token after authentication, but i do not know how to access it from the controller 1) not logined user sees form 2) not logined user types in message and submit 3) facebox asking for authentication 4) after authentication, submit form automatically without refreshing 5) //but authenticity token is needed for form submission, which is not there yet

• What learning habits can you suggest?

  Hi, Our profession often requires deep learning; sitting down and reading, and understanding. I'm currently undergoing an exam period, and I'm looking for ways to learn more effectively. I'm not asking about what to learn, or whether to prefer blogs over books, etc. My question is much more physical than that - What do you do when need to study, and I mean study hard? I'm looking for answers such as I slice my time to 2.5 hours intervals and make a break between them, but never during. I keep a jar of water nearby. I wake up at 6 o'clock sharp and start my day with a session at the gym. What good learning habits did acquire, or wish you had acquired? (I know this isn't strictly programming related, but it is programmers related)

• Datacontracts property getter running twice

  I have a set of data contracts that act as wrappers to base classes that we wish to expose. A quick example is: [DataMember] public List<decimal> Points { get { return sourceObject.ListPoints(); } private set{} } We have some other properties that we have to massage the data first (we are converting object graphs and need to guard against circular references). The issue that we are seeing is that this getter will fire twice, once within the service operation, then again during serialization. This is causing two problems: We manually add to collections, since this is running twice the collections are filled with dupes. If an exception is thrown during the second run, it happens outside of the try/catch in the operation, and does not throw a fault. The service throws a cryptic timeout message, and the only way to see the error is via WCF trace logs.

• Creating a future proof .NET 3.5 SP1 installer prerequisite for setup.exe AND the .MSI

  I've demanded .NET 3.5 SP1 a la http://stackoverflow.com/questions/88136/will-a-vs2008-setup-project-update-net-3-5-sp1. This makes the setup.exe check correctly. I've also added a "SP1" launch condition to my MSI so it doesn't let the user install my .NET 3.5SP1 app via launching the MSI (and replaced the [VSDNETMSG] in the Framework condition message with one that actually mentions SP1). From a future proofing point of view, this feels wrong. I want the condition to be: (NETVer=3.5 AND Net35SPLevel=1) OR (NETVer=>3.5) not (NETVer=3.5 AND Net35SPLevel=1) Is there any way to do that? The framework check doesnt have a condition property to allow me to add a sub-condition... Yes, I could also just not worry my pretty little head about it :P If one of the MS versioning experts out there reads this, if you're going to put stuff that code depends on into SPs, can you please make the installer be able to check for it OOTB. (I really wish they had come up with a better numbering scheme - the world and its dog could see that this was going to get confusing)

  Hi, I've read the post "What is the best book on numerical methods?" and I wish to ask more or less the same question but in relation to C programming. Most of the time, C programming books on numerical methods are just another version of the author's previous Fortran book on the same subject. I've seen Applied numerical methods in C by Nakamura, Shoichiro and the C codes are not good programming practice. I've heard bad comments about Numerical Recipes by Press. Do you know good books on C that discusses numerical methods. It's seem better for me to ask about good books on C discussing numerical methods than rather asking books on numerical methods that discusses C. I've heard about Numerical Algorithms with C by Giesela Engeln-Müllges and A Numerical Library in C for Scientists and Engineers bu Lau but haven't read them. Good books will always have algorithms implemented in the programming language in a smart way. Thanks a lot...

• (VB.NET + WPF) Drag + Drop (to allow user sorting) of stackpanel elements within a Scrollviewer?

  I have good model (I think!) for how to allow a user to drag an element in a stackpanel and reposition it to another location within the stackpanel. However, my Stackpanel is placed within a ScrollViewer, like this (generalized): <ScrollViewer> <StackPanel> ....First item ....Second item ....Third item ....Etc. </StackPanel> <ScrollViewer> Here is the problem, I wish to simulate the functionality of programs like word, where if I am dragging selected content (or an object) outside the viewable area, the window will scroll in the direction of the mouse to see more places to drop my nifty little object. ...i.e. If I move the mouse to the top of my ScrollViewer while dragging a stackpanel's contents, I want the scrollviewer to slowly move up so I can see more locations to drop my content. Any suggestions? If you can help me solve this, you will be a godsend!

  To find an Assembly programmer is very hard to help me I'm a established Delphi programmer that has an old copy of Delphi that is not .net And I have a *.dll that I'm converting into Delphi code for .net I'm on a big learning curve hear as i know little of .net yet. I've just got a computer with .net today!!!!!! I've run the *.dll through a dissembler and started putting jump links in as writing in Delphi assembly you do not do any addressing, just reference links. The file has fixed string structures (i think C++) ASCII & ANSI strings 1/ I do not know how to identify how the code references these structures 2/ and I do not know were the functions begin and what shape they look like The code is free for any one to look at their is not many functions in it. but I have to email it as stack over flow will not allow me to display it. • CHtmlView class and focus

  I have an SDI application written in MFC. The frame is divided into 1 row and 2 columns using a splitter window. Below are details of Row and Column (R0C0 means Row#0 and Col#0) R0C0 view is a CFormView with multiple input controls like text box, combo box etc. R0C1 view is a CHtmlView that contains HTML content relavant to the control that has input focus in the R0C0 I am able to update the HTML content and also invoke Javascript functions through my MFC code. Problem: When user clicks on the R0C1, continaing CHtmlView, the focus is now on the html page. I wish to allow the user to tab out of R0C1 using the key board and return back to R0C0. Can you help with this please? The user can obviously click on the R0C0 view using mouse but we have a user who needs to use Keyboard for using this functionality.   Hello. I wish to use the Translator classes of Zend framework in my app, but I don't want to include the whole framework. I grabbed the: Locale folder Translate folder Exception.php Loader.php Locale.php Registry.php Translate.php and copied into a custom folder named zend.translator. Obviously I had to edit all them to adjust the includes to the new path... Is this the way to go? I'm worried to have to edit all those files every time a new version is released.

  I am attempting to scan a string of words and look for the presence of a particular word(case insensitive) in an XSLT 2.0 stylesheet using REGEX. I have a list of words that I wish to iterate over and determine whether or not they exist within a given string. I want to match on a word anywhere within the given text, but I do not want to match within a word (i.e. A search for foo should not match on "food" and a search for bar should not match on "rebar"). XSLT 2.0 REGEX does not have a word boundary(\b), so I need to replicate it as best I can.

  Hello Again my fellow programmers out there, I'm designing and programming from scratch a online shop. It has a Module to manage "Orders" that are recieved via the frontend. I'm needing to have a status to know whats happening with an order in s certain moment, let's say the statuses are: Pending Payment Confirmed - Awaiting shipment Shipped Cancelled My question is a simple one, but is very important to decide on the store design, and is: What would you do so store this status: Would you create a column for it in the Orders table or would you just "calculate" the status of each order depending if payments has been recieved or shipments has been made for every order? (except I suppose for a is_cancelled column) What would be the best approach to model this kind of problem? PD: I even wish in the future to have these statuses configurable buy other clientes using the same software..

• How (and where) to get aligned tRNA sequences (and import it into R)

  (This is a database / R commands question) I wish (for my thesis work), to import tRNA data into R and have it aligned. My questions are: 1) What resources can I use for the data. 2) What commands might help me with the import/alignment.   I am trying to get Hudson to run my ruby based selenium tests. I have installed the Selenium Grid plugin, but I don't want to have the RC's running as slaves in a Hudson cluster. The reason for this is I don't want to waste the next six years of my life trying to configure each of my projects in various Windows environments. Hudson currently pulls each project from Github and builds it just fine. With a regular Selenium Grid setup, I am able to edit the grid_configuration.yml file to represent the various environments I wish to tests against, then pass environment variables to the rake task that runs the test i.e. which browser/platfom to run on and the URL of the application under test -- usually a port on the hub machine running in a specific environment. In this way, the machines on which the RC's run don't need to know anything about the source code of my apps, they just need to have selenium-grid installed and have registered with the hub. Is there a way of elegantly emulating this with Hudson?

• Can I use XText for a DSL involving an XML file type?

  I have defined a small DSL that is mostly written in the form of different types of XML files in conjuction with some property files. This works very well but I wish to create an Eclipse Editor to make editing these files easier for beginners (I already have a working parser). The main XML file can reference some items from the .properties files and vice-versa. THe main xml file can also reference other XML files. Certain options should only be available in the main xml file based on the contents of the .properties files and based on some osgi plugins that can be added to the DSL project (the syntax is dynamic depending on context). The structure of the language is fixed but the options available in each attribute or the choice of attributes themselves changes depending on metadata contained in plugin .jar files. Questions: Does XText support dynamic syntax (validation changes depending on external factors)? Does XText support XML files / .properties files? Thank you very much for your help in advance.

  Hey, I don't know much about SEO and how web spiders work, so forgive my ignorance here. I'm creating a site (using ASP.NET-MVC) which has areas that displays information retrieved from the database. The data is unique to the user, so there's no real server-side output caching going on. However, since the data can contain things the user may not wish to have displayed from search engine results, I'd like to prevent any spiders from accessing the search results page. Are there any special actions I should take to ensure that the search result directory isn't crawled? Also, would a spider even crawl a page that's dynamically generated and would any actions preventing certain directories being search mess up my search engine rankings? edit: I should add, I'm reading up on robots.txt protocol, but it relies on co-operation from the web crawler. However, I'd also like to prevent any data-mining users who will ignore the robots.txt file. I appreciate any help!

When I run this, firebug gets a 200 OK, but the data received is null. I've tried a lot of different approaches, like having the data in text (wish grants me "(an empty string)" instead of just "null") or returning string in the server method...   When we click the check box "Install files for complex script and right to left languages (including Thai)" in Regional and Language settings what exactly happens? Changes to registry keys? I noticed that it installs some .fon files and keyboard dlls. Is this totally necessary if one just wish to read complex script on Windows XP? My test inside VirutalBox as Windows 7 as the host OS seems to indicate that for reading Complex Script need not be enabled. Yet that's not what all the literature on the subject says. What's going on?
