  • Kernel upgrade CentOS 5.3 mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root'

    We have a CentOS 5.3 x64 server that by default runs kernel version 2.6.18-164.11.1 and we are attempting to upgrade the box to 2.6.31.12 The drive is LVM +ext3, and the problem I'm having is when I upgrade the kernel and attempt to boot from it, no matter what version of the kernel I use, I get /dev/root not found towards the end of the boot process, and the kernel panics, and than reboots. I'm installing the kernel exactly as it says in this doc. I've tried it "The centOS way " using make rpm and than installing that. I've updated my mkinitrd. The most interesting part of this problem is that it has been so frustrating that I decided to try and clean install centos on an identical machine without LVM, and the result is EXACTLY the same. After upgrading the kernel, I get /dev/root not found. Does anyone know how to fix this, or what information would be relevant to remedy it? I'm open to try anything at this point. One more interesting thing about this problem is that in the new version of the kernel, during boot it complains that dm-mapper is started twice, than panics right after that. I've tried this with other kernel versions, and the result is the same. What am I missing here? If you need any more files, please just ask.   • How to load powershell profile from cygwin bash?

    So in cygwin bash I am able to type "powershell" to bring me into a powershell prompt but it won't load my powershell profile.ps1 due to not being able to execute scripts, but I can't set the execution policy in this prompt... So I tried running the default powershell prompt (as administrator) and was able to set the execution policy to remote signed, but it doesn't affect the powershell within bash what am I missing?

This is what I am doing but it's not working for some reason: Open IIS 7 Create a new virtual directory in Default Web Site and point it to a folder on d:\ drive Browse to folder on d:\ drive and create an .htm file with some test text in it Open a browser and navigate to http://localhost/TestSite/index.htm But I get a 404 - what gives? The problem is that I am on a rackspace cloud server and I need a second partition on both the primary and secondary servers that I will replicate with DRBD. Rackspace does not allow me to create a second partition. I am left with the default single partition. How can I mirror using DRBD?

    This occurred after a Trojan incident. We managed to get the Trojan cleaned off the computer, but now we can't Right click the desktop. We have tried changing HKCU/software/microsoft/windows/current version/policies/explorer/noviewcontextmenu in the registry, and group policy user configuration/administrative templates/windows explorer/remove windows explorers default context menu, but neither worked. How do we reenable the right-click menu for the desktop? (it works everywhere else)

    I have a webserver (Ubuntu 12.04 with LAMP) using Virtualmin / Webmin. Because I just moved from a Cpanel system, I am having a nightmare configuring the DNS! Using intoDNS.com, the failed reports are: Mismatched NS records WARNING: One or more of your nameservers did not return any of your NS records. DNS servers responded ERROR: One or more of your nameservers did not respond: The ones that did not respond are: 123.123.123.123 213.251.188.141x Multiple Nameservers ERROR: Looks like you have less than 2 nameservers. According to RFC2182 section 5 you must have at least 3 nameservers, and no more than 7. Having 2 nameservers is also ok by me. Missing nameservers reported by your nameserver You should already know that your NS records at your nameservers are missing, so here it is again: ns1.mydomain.com. sdns2.ovh.net. SOA record No valid SOA record came back! MX Records WWW A Record ERROR: I could not get any A records for www.mydomain.com!     I have set, under "Main" - "IDE Configuration" - "Configure SATA as" to "Raid" and "Onboard Serial-ATA BootRom" to "Enabled", but upon POST I still do not see the Intel Matrix Storage Manager screen where I can press Ctrl+I to set up my raid? I have the latest BIOS version EDIT: Although I had set the rom to "enabled", I then went and reset the bios settings to default. I then set the bootrom setting to "disabled", restarted and then "enabled" again and it seemed to work.

    When I enable the redirect-gateway option on the server, restart openvpn, and restart the client software, the new default gateway is set on the client. When I then disable the redirect-gateway option in the server config, restart openvpn on the server, then on the client, the client no longer sets the old gateway, effectively breaking access to the outside world. Why could this be?

    Older versions of Excel had a icon that would expand the selection to include any non-empty cells in all directions. It was an X shape with four arrowheads. You can still write VBA code to do this, but I really miss this tool. Did they just drop it from Excel 2007? In older versions you had to go get it from the Customize menu because it wasn't on any toolbar by default.

There is small discussion about the issue going on on TechNet but nobody yet has a solution. The problem is that the Migration Wizard has changed in Windows 7 and no longer provides a mechanism for doing this.

  • Gnome not working well with NoMachine

    First of all, NoMachine is working for me. However, at some point with my Ubuntu/Gnome machine, I got an update for Gnome and now when running NoMachine I no longer get all of the theme elements. For example the panels are there but with the default or stock colors. This is true for the icons as well. Does anybody know a solution for this problem?

    I had a hell of a time installing lxml for python2.7 on centOs5.6. For some background, python2.7 is an alternative installation of python on centOS5.6 which comes with python2.4 installed. it was bulit from source per its instrucitons ./configure make make altinstall However, after about 20 hours of trying I managed to find a workable solution and was able to install lxml. Until, I notice the following error at the top of the interpreter: python2.7: /usr/lib64/libz.so.1: no version information available (required by python2.7) Python 2.7.2 (default, Jun 30 2011, 18:55:26) [GCC 4.1.2 20080704 (Red Hat 4.1.2-50)] on linux2 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> print 'Sheeeeut!' this error is printed out everytime I run a script. For example: $ ./test.py /usr/local/bin/python2.7: /usr/lib64/libz.so.1: no version information available (required by /usr/local/bin/python2.7) the script runs flawlessly, but this error is bothersome. After some digging I have seem to believe I have a wrong version of libz installed, that it is either an older version or built for a different platform. I'm not quite sure how, I've only installed libz through yum, as far as I know. Although, I can't quite remember every little thing I tried in my twenty hours of trying. I think having it install to /usr/local/ was a poor default choice. However, without the make uninstall option being present it seems to be a time consuming task for a solution I am not quite sure would solve my problem.
