  I'm using rfacebook gem to interact with facebook connect. And I'm having a problem with uploading images. As facebook api says, the data should be transferred in a hash like json object. • WCF net.tcp bindings, message formats and security questions

  Hi, sorry for the stupid questions but there are just some things about WCF I cant get my head around. Would be greatful for some advice on the following.... At a very basic level is it correct that WCF uses either Binary (Net.Tcp), HTTP or MSMQ to transfer my message on the wire? However is it true that in all cases, regardless of how the data is transferred the message itself in in the SOAP format with headers and a body? So its a sort of XML message that is transmitted in either HTTP/S or in a binary format. Is Net.Tcp a good choice for my client server app - its similar to a messenger app in that the clients are all remote users on the other side of the firewall to my server. Most things I am reading are telling to use WS* and HTTP. Is Net.Tcp secured by standard and without certificates? - that is - people cannot listen on the wire and decode the data thats going to and from. Is it possible to send a username and password using net.tcp and without an installed certificate? If so I presume I can hook this up to my membership provider and authenticate access to each method on my service contract implementation. I presume that with username and password security, the proxy is initialised with the username and password and that this information is is sent with every request. Then my membership provider will be invoked for each method call and do whatever it needs to do to get the authorisation for the method. Sorry for the dump of questions but would be great to know if Im thinking the right way about how WCF works. Thanks.

• Why do I get an error 'Cannot resolve symbol <symbolname>' in ReSharper?

  Using VS2008 and R# 5 I'm running into an odd situation, where on an aspx page I keep getting Cannot resolve symbol 'symbolname' But the code compiles and runs fine. While having a fix for this would be great, I'm just trying to figure out if I'm losing my mind. The CodeFile directive and Inherits directives are fine. If I compile the app or just let devenv sit for a bit it'll go away, but as soon as I save the aspx [via ctrl+s] R# suddenly has trouble with the Inherits attribute and flips out on every method in the page (OnClick etc). // Anonymized of course but otherwise intact <%@ Page AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="TestPage.aspx.cs" Inherits="TestPage" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPage.master" Title="Test Page Title" %> This is mostly just a grievance, because since the code compiles it doesn't stop me from doing what I need. I would post a bug report to the JetBrains site but first I would like to know I'm not alone. It could be my machine. Maybe when I roll to VS2010 in a couple weeks this will go away?

• DataTable.Select Behaves Strangely Using ISNULL Operator on NULL DateTime Column

  I have a DataTable with a DateTime column, "DateCol", that can be DBNull. The DataTable has one row in it with a NULL value in this column. I am trying to query rows that have either DBNull value in this column or a date that is greater than today's date. Today's date is 5/11/2010. I built a query to select the rows I want, but it did not work as expected. The query was: string query = "ISNULL(DateCol, '" + DateTime.MaxValue + "'") > "' + DateTime.Today "'" This results in the following query: "ISNULL(DateCol, '12/31/9999 11:59:59 PM') > '5/11/2010'" When I run this query, I get no results. It took me a while to figure out why. Why did the original query return the wrong results? Why would it work fine if the date was compared against 1/31/2000 but not against 2/1/2000?

• Using IOC in a remoting scenario

  I'm struggling with getting IOC to work in a remoting scenario. I have my application server set up to publish Services (SingleCall) which are configured via XML. This works just like this as we all know: RemotingConfiguration.Configure(ConfigFile, true); lets say my service looks like that (pseudocode) public class TourService : ITourService { IRepository _repository; public TourService() { _repository = new SqlServerRepository(); } } But what I rather would like to have sure looks like this: public class TourService : ITourService { IRepository _repository; public TourService(IRepository repository) { _repository = repository; } } On the client side we do something like that (pseudocode again): (ITourService)Activator.GetObject(ITourService, tcp://server/uri); This prompts the server to create a new instance of my TourService class... However this doesn't seem to work out well because the .NET Remoting Infrastructure want's to know the type it should publish but I would rather like to point it to the way how it could retrieve the object it should publish. In other words, route it through the IOC process pipe of - let's say windsor castle - for example. Currently I'm a bit lost on that task...

• Rails test db doesn't persist record changes

  I've been trying to solve a problem for a few weeks now. I am running rspec tests for my Rails app, and they are working fine except for one error that I can't seem get my head around. I am using MySQL with the InnoDB engine. I have set config.use_transactional_fixtures = true in spec_helper.rb I load my test fixtures manually with the command rake spec:db:fixtures:load. The rspec test is being written for a BackgrounDRb worker, and it is testing that a record can have its state updated (through the state_machine gem). Here is my problem: I have a model called Listings. The rspec test calls the update_sold_items method within a file called listing_worker.rb. This method calls listing.sell for a particular record, which sets the listing record's 'state' column to 'sold'. So far, this is all working fine, but when the update_sold_items method finishes, my rspec test fails here: listing = Listing.find_by_listing_id(listing_id) listing.state.should == "sold" expected: "sold", got: "current" (using ==) I've been trying to track down why the state change is not persisting, but am pretty much lost. Here is the result of some debugging code that I placed in the update_sold_items method during the test: pp listing.state # => "current" listing.sell! listing.save! pp listing.state # => "sold" listing.reload pp listing.state # => "current" I cannot understand why it saves perfectly fine, but then reverts back to the original record whenever I call reload, or Listing.find etc. Thanks for reading this, and please ask any questions if I haven't given enough information. Thanks for your help, Nathan B P.S. I don't have a problem creating new records for other classes, and testing those records. It only seems to be a problem when I am updating records that already exist in the database.

• How to right-justify icon in a JLabel?

  For a JLabel with icon, if you setHorizontalTextPosition(SwingConstants.LEADING), the icon is painted right after text, no matter how wide the label is. This is particularly bad for a list, as the icons would be all over the place depending on how long the text is for each item. I traced the code and it seems to be that in SwingUtilities#layoutCompoundLabelImpl, text width is simply set to SwingUtilities2.stringWidth(c, fm, text), and icon x is set to follow text without considering label width. Here is the simplest case: import java.awt.*; import javax.swing.*; public class TestJLabelIcon { public static void main(String args[]) { EventQueue.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { JLabel c = new JLabel("abc"); c.setHorizontalTextPosition(SwingConstants.LEADING); c.setHorizontalAlignment(SwingConstants.LEADING); c.setIcon(UIManager.getIcon("FileChooser.detailsViewIcon")); c.setBorder(BorderFactory.createLineBorder(Color.RED)); JFrame frame = new JFrame(); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation( JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE ); frame.getContentPane().add(c); frame.pack(); frame.setLocationRelativeTo(null); frame.setVisible(true); } }); } } You can see that label always fills the frame but icon stays put. You'll get the mirror problem if you set both arguments to TRAILING. I know I can override the UI, or use a JPanel, etc. I just wonder if I'm missing something simple in JLabel. If not, it seems like a Java bug. FYI this is jdk1.6.0_06 on Windows XP.

• Moq: Unable to cast to interface

  Hello, earlier today I asked this question. So since moq creates it's own class from an interface I wasn't able to cast it to a different class. So it got me wondering what if I created a ICustomPrincipal and tried to cast to that. This is how my mocks look: var MockHttpContext = new Mock<HttpContextBase>(); var MockPrincipal = new Mock<ICustomPrincipal>(); MockHttpContext.SetupGet(h => h.User).Returns(MockPrincipal.Object); In the method I am trying to test the follow code gives the error(again): var user = (ICustomPrincipal)httpContext.User; The error is the following: Unable to cast object of type 'IPrincipalProxy4081807111564298854aabfc890edcc8' to type 'MyProject.Web.ICustomPrincipal'. I guess I still need some practice with interfaces and moq but shouldn't I be able to cast the class that moq created back to ICustomPrincipal? I know httpContext.User returns an IPrincipal so maybe something gets lost there? Well if anybody can help me I would appreciate that.   Hello all, I just created my own "Home" to replace the stock android one or Sense. All is working fine and I get all I want. My only problem is to replace to long press on home key ( that usually show the last 6 activities you launched) by my own launcher.   Hi How can I do these 2 scenarios. First I validate the records one at a time. I then want to insert them into the database but instead of doing submitChanges() after each record I want to do a mass submit at the end. So I have something like this public class Repository { private LinqtoSqlContext dbcontext = new LinqtoSqlContext(); public void Update() { // find record // update record } public void Insert() { // make a database table object ( ie ProductTable t = new ProductTable() { productname ="something"} // insert record ( dbcontext.ProductTable.insertOnSubmit()) } public void SaveToDb() { dbcontext.submitChanges(); } } Then in my service layer I would do like for(int i = 0; i < 100; i++) { validate(); if(valid == true) { update(); insert() } } SaveToDb(); So pretend my for loop is has a count for all the record found in the xml file. I first validate it. If valid then I have to update a table before I insert the record. I then insert the record. After that I want to save everything in one go. I am not sure if I can do a mass save when updating of if that has to be after every time or what. But I thought it would work for sure for the insert one. Nothing seems to crash and I am not sure how to check if the records are being added to the dbcontext.

  I using: c#: RSACryptoServiceProvider JAVA: KeyFactory.getInstance("RSA")+Cipher I sending public key (exponent + modulus) as byte array from java to c#. It's ok, there is the same bytes. But when i try to encrypt some data with one key in Java and c# - there is different results.   I am using PHPUnit 3.4.12 to drive my selenium tests. I'd like to be able to get a screenshot taken automatically when a test fails. F Time: 8 seconds, Memory: 5.50Mb There was 1 failure: 1) WebTest::testLandingPage fail /home/root/selenium/WebTest.php:32 FAILURES! Tests: 1, Assertions: 0, Failures: 1. • App.config for SpecFlow not recognized by NUnit GUI runner

  How do I get my App.config file to be recognized/used by the NUnit GUI runner? I have tried placing it in the top folder of my project and in the same folder as my feature files. This actually works correctly when I use TestDriven.net but not when I use the NUnit GUI runner. The GUI always shows a green bar and displays the test as Inconclusive instead of Error or Failed

  Hi, I have a unexpected problem. I had create a war with grails war. Then I had deployed in Tomcat. For my surprise the crud works fine but I don't know what persistence is using. So I did this test: Compare grails prod run-app with grails prod run-war. The first works fine, and does conect with the mysql database. The other don't. • MSBuild 2010 - how to publish web app to a specific location (nant)?

  I'm trying to get MSBuild 2010 to publish a web app to a specific location. I can get it to publish the deployment package to a particular path, but the deployment package then adds it's own path that changes. For example: if I tell it to publish to C:\dev\build\Output\Debug then the actual web files end up at C:\dev\build\Output\Debug\Archive\Content\C_C\code\sawadee\frontend\IPP-FrontEnd\Source\ControllersViews\obj\Debug\Package\PackageTmp And the C_C part of the path changes (not sure how it chooses this part of the path). This means I can't just script a copy from the publish location. I simply added the service by right clicking project, selecting add service reference, giving WSDL url for the service and clicking OK.(After clicking ok asked for credentials and i provided them) Then when i tried to call a method from the serviceclien object i got the error message below: The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous'. • IIS 7 can't connect to SQLServer 2008

  Sorry if this is the most seen question on the web, but this is my turn. I am trying to publish my asp.net mvc app on IIS 7 under MS Sql Server 2008. I am on a Windows Server 2008 virtual machine. I get the following classical error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) Under SQLServer, Allow remote connections is checked. My connection string is: Data Source=.\MSSQLSERVER;Initial Catalog=mydbname;User Id=sa;Password=mypassword I also tried with no username/password and "Integrated Security=true". There is only one instance of SQLServer installed. I tried to access my web page locally and remotely. There is no active firewall on the virtual machine. Thx for your help.

The relation "companyRowByBuyFromCompanyFK" exists, as in Deals_SelectionChanged I can access companyRowByBuyFromCompanyFK property of the Deals row, and I also can access the CompanyName propert of that row. Is the reason why this is not working because XAML binding uses the [] indexer? Rather than properties on the CompanyRows in my DataTable? At the moment im getting values such as - TGS - 3 - TGS - 4 What would be the best way to accomplish this? Make a converter to convert foreign keys using Table being referenced as custom parameter. Create Table View for each table? This would be long winded as I have quite a large number of tables that have foreign keys.
