  • CPU consumption of my process

    Hi all I would like to use Performance Monitor to check the CPU consumption of my process. Right now I am working on a MultiCore machine. If I have a look at my process in TASK MANAGER I see that my process consumes 20% of CPU. If I start performance monitor, I select Process--% Processor Time I see values peaking up and over 100%. Do you know why and how to get the real measure? I also looked at the CPU consumption for all of my 4 cores, but I don't know exactly how to attribute consumption to my process. If you can suggest a link or url about how to read CPU usage I would really appreciate! Thanks a lot! AFG

  • How do I make this simple list comprehension?

    I'm new to python, and I'm trying to get to know the list comprehensions better. I'm not even really sure if list comprehension is the word I'm looking for, since I'm not generating a list. But I am doing something similar. This is what I am trying to do: I have a list of numbers, the length of which is divisible by three. So say I have nums = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6] I want to iterate over the list and get the sum of each group of three digits. Currently I am doing this: for i in range(0, len(nums), 3): nsum = a + b + c for a, b, c in nums[i, i+3] print(nsum) I know this is wrong, but is there a way to do this? I'm sure I've overlooked something probably very simple... But I can't think of another way to do this.

  • TextMate suddenly highlighting all text dark red...?

    I'm using TextMate on Snow Leopard, don't know much about how it works. After I hit an unknown keyboard shortcut, it suddenly decided to highlight almost all text in my Python files dark red - making all my Python virtually unreadable! I must have accidentally pressed a shortcut - but I've no idea what I did or how to turn it off, and can't find any relevant help in the manual or form. Even just 'turn off all highlighting' would do. Anyone know how to turn this highlighting off? Bit desperate!

I have a question regarding iphone development. i am building an app for iphone which uses gps, i can tackle the gps from my app via alert that whether user wants to use gps or not. as you know when it will try to use gps, iphone's built in gps will ask as well whether to allow it to use or not. so here is my question that how can i know that user clicked the iphone's built in pop up because i am showing "Gps not working" alert on failure. so how can i let alert popup when only gps is not working and not when the user clicks "he does not want to use gps"

    Hi All, I am making MSSQL stored procedure CLR calls from ASP pages. When an exception occurs, it is logged and then rethrown. In this scenario I need to be able to handle the exception (if possible) in the ASP page. Note that I cannot move away from classic ASP in this instance; I am stuck within a legacy system for this project. Please let me know if you know of a way to handle the exceptions in classic ASP.   • Preventing mouse emulation events (ie click) from touch events in Mobile Safari / iPhone using Javas

    In doing a single page Javascript app with interactive DOM elements I've found that the "mouseover-mousemove-mousedown-mouseup-click" sequence happens all in a bunch after the "touchstart-touchmove-touchend" sequence of events. I've also found that it is possible to prevent the "mouse*-click" events from happening by doing an "event.preventDefault()" during the touchstart event, but only then, and not during the touchmove and touchend. This is a strange design, because because it is not possible to know during the touchstart yet whether the user intents to drag or swipe or just tap/click on the item. I ended up setting up a "ignore_next_click" flag somewhere tied to a timestamp, but this is obviously not very clean. Does anybody know of a better way of doing this, or are we missing something? Note that while a "click" can be recognized as a "touchstart-touchend" sequence (ie no "touchmove"), there are certain things, such as keyboard input focus, that can only happen during a proper click event.

  • What does the EC2 command line say when a machine won't start?

    When starting an instance on Amazon EC2, how would I detect a failure, for instance, if there's no machine available to fulfill my request? I'm using one of the less-common machine types and am concerned it won't start up, but am having trouble finding out what message to look for to detect this. I'm using the EC2 commandline tools to do this. I know I can look for 'running' when I do ec2-describe-instance to see if the machine is up, but don't know what to look for to see if the startup failed. Thanks!

    I am trying to customize the mappings for vimdiff and make them similar to winmerge In a vertical 2 way split, I want to map alt-left <a-left> to move current diff to left side and alt-right <a-right> to move current diff to right side. For merging i can use :diffg and :diffp. But I need to know which split i am in so that i can use :diffg/:diffp in that. Is there any way by which i can detect which split i am in. Specifically is there is any way by which i can know whether the cursor is in left split or right split

Which program is the "best", where best is some combination of easiest to use, best prior estimation, fast How do I incorporate my intuitions about topicality. Let's say I think I know that some items in the corpus are really in the same category, like all articles by the same author. Can I add that into the analysis? Any unexpected pitfalls or tips I should know before embarking? I'd prefer is there are R or Python front ends for whatever program, but I expect (and accept) that I'll be dealing with C.

    I have the following link function MyLinqToSQLTable.Where(x => x.objectID == paramObjectID).ToList(); I most of the time you can change a linq call to be several lines by adding curly brackets around the method body. Like this: MyLinqToSQLTable.Where(x => { x.objectID == paramObjectID; }).ToList(); Problem is the implied return that was there when I just did a Boolean compare is now not done. Return (x.objectID == paramObjectID); is not accepted either. How do do this? can I do this? NOTE: I know that I can add another where clause if needed. But I would still like to know the answer to this.

    Let's say I have array of bytes: byte[] arr = new byte[] { 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 }; Does platform has functions that I can use to play with this array - for example, how to invert it (get 4,3,2,1,0)? Or, how to invert part of it (2,1,0,3,4)? Get part of array (0,1,2,3)? I know I can manually write functions but I am curious if I'm missing useful util functions in platform that I should know about (and couldn't find any useful guide using google). Thanks!

  • Need to preserve order of elements sent in JSON from Java

    I'm using JSON.org APIs for Java to use JSON in my JSP webapp, I know JSONObject doesn't preserve order of elements the way they are put into it and one has to use JSONArray for that but I don't know how to use it since I need to send key and value both as received from the database, and here I'm sending data to jQuery via JSON where I need the order of data to be maintained. Following is my servlet code, where I'm getting results from the database using ORDER BY and hence I want the order to be exact as returned from the database. Also this JSON object requested using $.post method of jQuery and is used to populate dropdown on reciever page.     Hey all i am in need of a little help with figuring out how to get a range of days for my select query. Here is the code i am trying out: select id, idNumber, theDateStart, theDateEnd from clients WHERE idNumber = '010203' AND theDateStart >= '2010-04-09' AND theDateEnd <= '2010-04-09'; This is what the data in the table looks like: TheDateStart = 2010-04-09 TheDateEnd = 2010-04-11 When testing that code above, it does not populate anything. If i take out the TheEndDate, it populates but with some other tables data as well which it should not do (it should only get one record). I know the problem is within the two date's. I'm not sure how to go about getting a date range for theDateStart and theDateEnd since if someone tries it, say, on 2010-04-10, it still needs to know its within rage of the 2010-04-09 - 2010-04-11. But right now, it does not... Any help would be great! :o) David

    I'm just starting to get into Rails caching and am wondering how to test whether or not caching is working in my development environment. I have set these two config variables for both the development (temporarily) and production environments: config.action_controller.perform_caching = true config.action_controller.page_cache_directory = File.join(RAILS_ROOT, 'public', 'cache') And my controller basically looks like this (using the resource_controller gem): class EventsController < Spree::BaseController resource_controller caches_page :index index.response do |format| format.html format.xml { render :xml => @collection.to_xml } end # ... end If I do that, I get these files: public/cache/events.html public/cache/events.xml But when I change caches_page to caches_action, I don't see any generated files and am not sure how to tell if the response has been cached. What do I need to know to know that this is working? I've read the docs and related, the rails caching guides, the railscast, and a few other docs, but I'm still wondering where everything is stored. This way I can see which items are most clicked on. The logic to add it to a db etc is easy to do. What I need to know is, how do I plug into the "add to cart" part. I.e.   • What is the easiest way to get an embedded upload progress bar using Ruby/Sinatra/Haml/Passenger/ngi

    I have a website where people can upload 30+mb of data in a single block, and I want to be able to show them the progress of their upload without causing the web page to become unresponsive, similar to how flash uploads work in gmail. There's this question here, but I don't know if that progress bar is embedded in the page or if it's using the browser's progress bar. I'm also a bit of a web newb, so I'm not sure if it's the 'easiest'. I asked the swfupload guys how to do this here, and the answer I got is 'this tool requires some knowledge to use it' without giving me much help in figuring out where to get started. I also asked this question on ServerFault, and got no response, so maybe that was the wrong place to ask. I'm all for learning new things and so forth, but there are a lot of potential pathways to take here. Where should I start, and what do I need to know to make everything work with sinatra, haml, ruby, passenger, and nginx? Thanks!

  • How can I overwrite a System.Drawing.Bitmap onto an existing GDI bitmap?

    If I have a .Net Bitmap, I can create from it a GDI bitmap by calling the Bitmap's GetHbitmap() method. Bitmap bmp = new Bitmap(100, 100); IntPtr gdiBmp = bmp.GetHbitmap(); This works fine, but every time you call GetHbitmap, Windows has to allocate new memory for the object that gdiBmp references. What I'd like to do - if possible - is write a function (I know PInvoke will be necessary here) that also generates a GDI bitmap copy of a Bitmap, but that uses an existing object instead of allocating a new one. So it would look something like this (if it were an extension method of Bitmap): //void OverwriteHbitmap(IntPtr gdi) Bitmap bmp1 = new Bitmap(100, 100); IntPtr gdi1 = bmp1.GetHbitmap(); Bitmap bmp2 = new Bitmap(100, 100); bmp2.OverwriteHbitmap(gdi1); How can I do this? I assume I'll need to know the structure of a GDI bitmap, and probably I can use LockBits and BitmapData for this, but I'm not sure exactly how.

  • Storing Interface type in ASP.NET Profile

    In my ASP.NET website all calls into the data layer return entities as interfaces and the website does not need to know what the concrete type is. This works fine, but I have run into a problem when trying to store one of those types into the user Profile. My interface implements ISerializable, like the following: public interface IInsured : IPerson, IEntity, ISerializable and the concrete type in the datalayer does implement ISerializable. My Profile property in web.config is: <add name="ActiveInsured" type="FacadeInterfaces.IInsured" serializeAs="Binary" defaultValue="[null]"/> It compiles just fine, but I get a runtime error on Profile.Save() saying that the interface cannot be serialized. I have also tried it with serializeAs="Xml". I thought that if my interface implemented ISerializable it would work. Anybody had this problem before or know of a workaround?

  • c# peer-to-peer networking - getting around routers

    I want to code a peer-to-peer like chat program in C#. I am trying to figure out how the networking would work. I know that the concept is that each peer is a client and a server at the same time. It can connect and be connected to. But my question is, how do you connect to a computer behind a router without the port being forwarded to that computer? I know things like Bittorrent do this with no problem. I was planning on using a tracker to keep a list of peers and the ports they listen on, but I still don't understand how to get through the router issue. Could someone please explain?
