• How to set up hibernate to use Glassfish connection pool?

  I have set up a connection pool in Glassfish with a jndi resource for it also setup. I am stumped on how to configure hibernate to go get it. I have come across alot of write ups to configure it to use C3P0 connection pool. Well I am lost. I found that I need to set: hibernate.connection.datasource hibernate.jndi.url hibernate.jndi.class hibernate.connection.username hibernate.connection.password Would datasource be the same as the hibernate.connection.datasource set in the connection pool? What would hibernate.jndi.class be? Are hibernate.connection.username and hibernate.connection.password for the connection to the database or to the appserver? I assume this is to the database, but why do I need them since that is all set in the appserver?

  I know that variable scope is enclosed by a start of block { and an end of block }. If the same variable is declared within the block, then the compile error Variable already defined occurs. But take a look at following example. public class Test{ int x=0;// Class scope variable public void m(){ int x=9; //redeclaration of x is valid within the scope of same x. if(true){ int x=7; // but this redeclaration generates a compile time error. } } Here, x can be redeclared in a method, although it's already declared in the class. But in the if block, x can't be redeclared. Why is it that redeclaration of a class scope variable doesn't generate an error, but a method scope variable redeclaration generates an error?

  I recently encountered an idiom I haven't seen before: string assembly by StringWriter and PrintWriter. I mean, I know how to use them, but I've always used StringBuilder. Is there a concrete reason for preferring one over the other? The StringBuilder method seems much more natural to me, but is it just style? I've looked at several questions here (including this one which comes closest: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/602279/stringwriter-or-stringbuilder ), but none in which the answers actually address the question of whether there's a reason to prefer one over the other for simple string assembly. • Remove duplicates from a sorted ArrayList while keeping some elements from the duplicates

  Okay at first I thought this would be pretty straightforward. But I can't think of an efficient way to solve this. I figured a brute force way to solve this but that's not very elegant. I have an ArrayList. Contacts is a VO class that has multiple members - name, regions, id. There are duplicates in ArrayList because different regions appear multiple times. The list is sorted by ID. Here is an example: Entry 0 - Name: John Smith; Region: N; ID: 1 Entry 1 - Name: John Smith; Region: MW; ID: 1 Entry 2 - Name: John Smith; Region: S; ID: 1 Entry 3 - Name: Jane Doe; Region: NULL; ID: 2 Entry 4 - Name: Jack Black; Region: N; ID: 3 Entry 6 - Name: Jack Black; Region: MW; ID: 3 Entry 7 - Name: Joe Don; Region: NE; ID: 4 I want to transform the list to below by combining duplicate regions together for the same ID. Therefore, the final list should have only 4 distinct elements with the regions combined. So the output should look like this:- Entry 0 - Name: John Smith; Region: N,MW,S; ID: 1 Entry 1 - Name: Jane Doe; Region: NULL; ID: 2 Entry 2 - Name: Jack Black; Region: N,MW; ID: 3 Entry 3 - Name: Joe Don; Region: NE; ID: 4 What are your thoughts on the optimal way to solve this?   i write a method and when i add some insignificant code it works faster, like these : array[1]=array[1]; array[0]=array[0]; array[3]=array[3]; array[2]=array[2]; i use double t=System.currentTimeMillis(); at first to record the time. then call the method and use System.out.println(System.currentTimeMillis()-t); in the end. when i delete the code (array[1]=array[1];...) the cost time is 1035.0 ms,but if i add these code, the cost time become 898.0ms. here is my method and my code. • Background Image in JTextPane

  How do I set a background image to a JTextPane - some sort of a watermark. I tried this option - creating a child class of JTextPane and use the paint method to draw the image. But then the text is displayed "below" the image than above. Is there any "standard" or "well known" way to do this? (BTW, I tried (something silly?) making the content type "text/html", and setting the image as the background image of a <div> but it did not help.)

You get the idea. Basically the point is to get all possible combinations of 'phrases' out of a sentence. Any thoughts for how to best implement this?

  I'm sure that I'm doing something dumb but I've been going craze over the last couple of days trying to get my checkboxes filled out inside an iterator that goes over an arraylist of object. Here is my object: public class EmailObject { int emailId; String emailAddress; public int getEmailId() { return emailId; } public void setEmailId(int emailId) { this.emailId = emailId; } public String getEmailAddress() { return emailAddress; } public void setEmailAddress(String emailAddress) { this.emailAddress = emailAddress; } } In my action class, I create an arraylist of the above EmailObjects. On my jsp page, I can get checkboxes through a checkboxlist (but this isn't good for me because I want it to be vertical and don't want to mess with the struts styles) <s:checkboxlist name="selectedEmails" list="userEmails" listValue="emailAddress" listKey="emailId" /> I can also iterate over the arraylist userEmails and display the values: <s:iterator value="userEmails" var="thisEmailData"> <s:property value="emailId"/> <s:property value="emailAddress"/> </s:iterator> But I can't get it to display the emailId when iterating over the arraylist userEmails.   After years in embedded programming, I have to develop a Windows app. I dug out my old C++ Builder and Delphi. These are great and the latest version costs over $1k, so I won't be going there. What I prarticularly like is the VCL (visual component library) which let's me code my own components and share them with others, plus the thousands of existing 3rd party components. I noticed that there is now also a RAD PHP from Borland too. I realzie that MSVC, QT, NetBeans, etc are good enough IDEs for RAD, BUT does anything offer the ease of the Borland products for developing additional components - and does anything else have thousands to choose from? PC based? Cross-platform is good. Browser based? Free is always good ;-) I don't particularly care about the programming language.

  I have got an application that is not compatible to work using IE8 browser. I am looking for a way to to configure Tomcat on which this application run, so the pages could be read by IE8 and treated as if they are IE7 or IE6 By googling so far I found a possible suggestion which say to add to the http response the header: X-UA-Compatible: IE=EmulateIE7 here that tell IE8 to be like IE7. The problem is that this way requires adding a filter that should be added on application level. I'd like to know if any of you is familiar with a more generic way that Tomcat enables to send its http content to be IE7 (or IE6) compatible ?

• Axis2 webservice (aar archive) properties file

  Hi there, guys. I'm currently developing a set of SOAP webservices over Axis2, deployed over a clustered WebLogic 10.3.2 environment. My webservices use some user settings that I want to be editable without the need for recompiling and regenerating the AAR archive. With this in mind, I chose to put them into a properties file that is loaded and consumed in runtime. Unfortunately, I'm having some questions about this: As far as I know, to achieve what I want, the only option is to put the properties file into the ../axis2/WEB-INF/classes directory of each one of the deployments (on each WebLogic instance) I currently have on my clustered configuration, and then load the file, as follows (or equivalent, this has not been verified for optimization): InputStreamReader fMainProp = new InputStreamReader(this.getClass().getResourceAsStream("myfile.properties")); Properties mainProp = new Properties(); mainProp.load(fMainProp); This is not as practical as I wanted it to be, because each time I want to alter some setting on the properties file, I have to edit each one of the files (deployed over different WebLogic instances) and there is a high probability of modifying one of these files without modifying the others. What I would like to know is if there is any (better) alternative to accomplish what I want, minimizing the potential conflict of configuration that is created by distributing and replicating the properties file through multiple WebLogic instances.

  I've been trying to get to mock a method with vararg parameters using Mockito: interface A { B b(int x, int y, C... c); } A a = mock(A.class); B b = mock(B.class); when(a.b(anyInt(), anyInt(), any(C[].class))).thenReturn(b); assertEquals(b, a.b(1, 2)); This doesn't work, however if I do this instead: when(a.b(anyInt(), anyInt())).thenReturn(b); assertEquals(b, a.b(1, 2)); This works, despite that I have completely omitted the varargs argument when stubbing the method. Any clues?
