• Forwarding non-www domain to other domain with dns

  Is it possible to forward firstdomain.com to www.seconddomain.com or seconddomain.com using surely dns records? I know how to forward www.firstdomain.com to seconddomain.com (with CNAME). What I am trying to do is move my site from one domain to another (new) one, and not break all the links which use the old domain name. I can't do a 301 redirect as it's hosted on Github Pages and I don't have access to the webserver. Thanks

• 302 Moved Temporarily or 301?

  I have a question on redirects. HTTP status code checker tool shows "HTTP/1.1 302 Moved Temporarily" for the home page url http://someurl.com (just a namesake url). Also, this url opens up http://www.someurl.com/general/index. As you can see, a non-www url to a www url redirect is happening. My questions are: Is a 302 redirect acceptable for the home page? Will this affect the site showing up in search results in anyway? Isnt redirection to /general/index a bad practice?

  I have several domains which I'd like to point to another (I'll call it foo.com). A couple of things aren't entirely clear to me. First, the DNS. I'm using Kloxo/HyperVM. Do I need to create separate DNS entries for each domain? Or do I just create separate CNAME or other records under foo.com? I thought it was the latter but when I click on "Add CNAME" I'm prompted to fill in the subdomain portion of foo.com. The nameservers have already been set to point to my VPS. For the redirect, would the following be appropriate within the vhost conf for foo.com?   On a joomla site, apache, shared hosting, I'm using next .htaccess rule: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L] The problem is that the browser's address bar text does not change from example.com to www.example.com. It seems the redirect actually works because all the links on the pages are changed to www. And after clicking on any link from there it always continues to have www added. The problem is the first page (no matter which one) that is loaded using browser's address bar - like example.com or example.com/random-page. Solved. The redirect actually works.

Due to a complete website structure redesign that is basically inevitable, I expect to have the following: Our sitemap of about 12,000 url's have about 90-95% of them change Out of those 12,000, I expect around 5000-6000 internal links to go dead in the process. No external links to this site yet, as it is still in development. Is there a tool out there that can do the following: I can feed the sitemap.xml after the restructuring have it parse each pages links for 404 errors on that page only report the pages/errors, preferably with just the url it is on, the url of the error, and the anchor text I have found a few tools, but all of them seem to be limited to 100 pages. Any advice for an intermediate webmaster to help this situation? 301 redirects are not viable in this situation.

My question is what's the best approach for SEO purposes, I need the main url domain.com to be indexed but google will also get the redirect and will not index the main page.   A bug in the tool, which we use to create search-engine-friendly URLs changed our whole URL-structure overnight, and we only noticed after Google already indexed the page. Now, we have a massive duplicate content issue, causing a harsh drop in rankings. Webmaster Tools shows over 1,000 duplicate title tags, so I don't think, Google understands what is going on.   I have old-domain.com which I want to migrate to new-domain.com. However, the content on the old domain is, well, old. And I'm currently in the process of redesigning my whole site. My idea is to do a permanent (301) redirect from old-domain.com to new-domain.com so that search engines know about the new domain and forget about the old one. But since the content is old I was thinking to do a temporary (302) redirect from new-domain.com to new-domain.com/old/ until the new content/site is ready to be published. Is this, for some reason, a bad idea? Or there's nothing wrong with it? One last thing... If I go with this, what should I do when the new content is ready? Should I just remove the 302 redirect and that's it, or should I do something else to notify search engines that the temporary redirect is over?

• Is It bad for SEO to have internal redirected links? [closed]

  I have a large number of pages having similar but not identical content. Example: site.com/dream_dictionary_flying and site.com/dream_interpretation_flying. The problem is that although not being identical, they are sometimes on the edge of being duplicate content. The solution via redirect 301 in htaccess is simple and can be done in a minute, BUT, changing all existing links on the whole site from "/something" to "/something_else" would take ages, it would be thousands of manual changes taking x hundreds of hours. My question is this; is it bad for SEO to have internal links that are redirected, or rather HOW bad is it? For the human user it would not matter at all but from what I have experienced, the search engines don't like it. Is there any rule of thumb here?   I have two Drupal sites with different content-- let's call them Apple and Orange. I recently developed a much more sophisticated third Drupal site-- let's call it Tree. For a large number of reasons, the content on Apple and Orange is useful for the users of Tree, so I want to move the content to Tree. However, much of the content is out of date. (This whole process took about five years.) To update the content, I will rewrite it one article at a time myself. Now here's my question: if I move the articles one by one (as I rewrite them) and then redirect the old articles (using a 301 redirect) on Apple/Orange to the new site on Tree, will this have a huge negative effect on my search engine rankings? Is there a good way to redirect among sites when they merge like this, or would I be better off keeping the old articles on Apple/Orange and simply linking them to the new, rewritten articles on Tree?

Our .co.uk website has a PR6 and received around 1/2 million visitors a month, 40% international. The wikijob.com domain, while registered for a while, has not been used nor promoted. Then, we sell sportwear because of the company name is totally unknown to the world.   I have an old site built in 2006, it has around 200 pages and 500 pictures. Every single page is of course indexed as well as images.   I deal with the following problem. I am customer of one domain reseller, which has fair prices, fine administration, and I have all my domains registered by it. Recently I've created a new webpage using a free web service (those sites where you can create a simple webpages with some template after few clicks). This new web page has default address in the following form: "pagename.provider.cz", but I want to use my own domain "pagename.cz". And that is the problem, because the provider would assign domain name to my presentation only if I registered mentioned domain by him. That wouldn't be a problem, but he is three times more expensive then my favorite one. So I am thinking about registering domain "pagename.cz" under my favorite registrator and then making 301 PHP redirect from it to "pagename.provider.cz". Shall this affect (negatively) my domain ranking? Are there any catches which I shoud care about?
