WSS 3.0 Backup/Restore Root Site Collection to Sub-Site of New Site Collection

Our intranet was originally setup to be at the root of its site collection. We are trying to change this so that our new internet site will live in the root and the intranet will be a sub-site. At this point I have created a new web application and site collection to house the internet and intranet. I used the 'stsadm -o backup' command to create a backup of our current intranet. I then ran the 'stsadm -o restore' command to restore the intranet site collection to wss/sites/intranet. This seems to have worked as I am able to access the intranet from this location. The issue I now seem to have is that images, sub-sites, etc. are all making reference as if the intranet is still the root site. So for example a link to a sub-site is pointing to wss/department/technology/default.aspx and it needs to point to wss/sites/intranet/department/technology/default.aspx. I am looking for help and/or clarification on two things: 1. Am I approaching the migration of a root site collection to a sub-site the best way? 2. How would I go about updating the link references so that they are based on the intranet now being a sub-site instead of the root site?

Apache start failing after apache config modifications, showing syntax error, cannot load php5apache2_2.dll into server

I am stuck again with apache setup guys. I am working on a Windows 7 system. I copied the working php5 installation directory from teammates, copied the necessary .dll files from inside php5 installation folder (like they were in the working setup of teammates) to my windows/system32/. Apache server started successfully with the default apache config file. I was able to access localhost in browser. But php code was not parsing. I noticed no such line like the following in the apache config file:- # PHP5 module LoadModule php5_module D:/php5/php5apache2_2.dll If I add this line, apache server start fails. Running test configuration gives the following error - httpd.exe: Syntax error on line 60 of C:/Program Files (x86)/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/conf/httpd.conf: Cannot load D:/php5/php5apache2_2.dll into server: The specified procedure could not be found. But the dll file is there in the specified location and I have given all permissions to the current system user to the php5 installation directory. The same line also appears in the apache error log, though I am not sure when exactly logs are written to the log file. I am confused if log entries are not made if I have opened the log file for reading? lol ... because I could not observe a pattern in when entries are made. I saw some log entries being made, some not. Oh, why is apache setup such a headache always????

Make Apache to show different index.html also in browser's address bar

I have the following foloder tree on my shared hosting server: www.somesite.com | |_ public_html (document folder) |_ .htaccess (Apache file) |_ inde.html (page shown by server now when someone looks for www.somesite.com) | |_ site_editor (folder) | |_login.html (site editor control panel) | |_file1.php | |_file2.php | |_ ... | |_ website (folder) |_ index.html (website HOME PAGE) |_ page1.html |_ page2.html |_ etc. Now when someone looks for www.somesite.com the webserver look for index.html in public_html folder. I would like the web server to show website/index.html when someone looks for www.somesite.com and I would like his browser bar to show only www.somesite.com/index.html and not www.somesite.com/website/index.html I would also like the web server to show site_editor/login.html when someone looks for www.somesite.com/site_editor/ Is it possible to accomplish both task by setting .htaccess files in some ways??? How Can I Make Apache Stop Serving ALL Unknown File Types (like .php~)?

I am coming from IIS and moving to Apache and recently found out that Apache by default serves up files of an unknown file extension as PURE TEXT. This can be an issue if a user uses certain programs that back up .php files as .php~. Then the .php~ file becomes completely readable by simply navigating to it in a browser. To make matters worse these .php~ files are often considered 'hidden' in the linux environment from the user so some may not even know they exist. Bots have been created around this fact that scour the internet looking for popular file name backups and extracting potentially secure info from them. I already know how to stop serving up .php~ files or any specific file extensions. I also know not to use any editors that would save backup files like this. My question is, how can I stop this default Apache behavior of serving up ANY non-MIME file type at all? I just don't like the this behavior and would like to stop it. I don't want it serving up .aspx~, .html~, .bob, .carl, no extension or anything else that is not a real MIME type. I know that I can probably go and use a directive to first Deny access to all file types. Then add the ones I want to serve out one by one. But I'm wondering if there's an easier/quicker way. OSX Snow Leopard - Multiple httpd/apache instances for PHP 5.2 & 5.3 together

I need to run Apache with both php 5.2 and 5.3, without other webservers such as nginx, lighttpd, etc. Just Apache HTTPD. The easiest way to have both PHP 5.2 and PHP 5.3 on Apache, on the same machine, is to have them run in different webservers (or at least different webserver instances). I already do this on windows, it works flawlessly because it is easy to specify the conf file that a specific instance loads. But how can this be achieved on Mac OSX, without ditching the web server that OSX comes with built in ? The basic is to create N-ip addresses that each apache instance will bind to, for example: 192.168.0.52 - This is for apache httpd with PHP 5.2 192.168.0.53 - This is for apache httpd with PHP 5.3 (each apache will bind to its own ip address) On OSX, i don't know how to configure HTTPD to start as multiple service/daemon, with different startup httpd.conf files!

Does JAXWS client make difference between an empty collection and a null collection value as returne

Since JAX-WS rely on JAXB, and since I observed the code that unpack the XML bean in JAX-B Reference Implementation, I guess the difference is not made and that a JAXWS client always return an empty collection, even the webservice result was a null element: public T startPacking(BeanT bean, Accessor<BeanT, T> acc) throws AccessorException { T collection = acc.get(bean); if(collection==null) { collection = ClassFactory.create(implClass); if(!acc.isAdapted()) acc.set(bean,collection); } collection.clear(); return collection; } I agree that for best interoperability service contracts should be non ambiguous and avoid such differences, but it seems that the JAX-WS service I'm invoking (hosted on a Jboss server with Jbossws implementation) is returning as expected either null either empty collection (tested with SoapUI). I used for my test code generated by wsimport. Return element is defined as: @XmlElement(name = "return", nillable = true) protected List<String> _return; I even tested to change the Response class getReturn method from : public List<String> getReturn() { if (_return == null) { _return = new ArrayList<String>(); } return this._return; } to public List<String> getReturn() { return this._return; } but without success. What is the best Apache logs Analyzer?

What real-time log analyzer can you suggest for Apache access and error logs? There is a list of web analytics software on wikipedia, but it would be great to hear opinions from people with experience without having to try all of them. Please don't suggest Google Analytics or any other hosted/javascript analytics suites, already using them, GA is not real-time and it is missing some data that the logs show. For example 404 errors, script errors, the full query-string of the referral, IP addresses, visitor path through the website, etc ...

Recommended workflows for Apache virtual hosts?

I do a lot of local web development work on my Ubuntu machine, and I'm constantly setting up virtual hosts in Apache. I don't need to do hard core server management, but I am getting tired of the repetitive process of manually adding config directives to files in /etc/apache2/sites-available/ and then updating the /etc/hosts file. Is there a more efficient or more automated way to do all this that I'm missing? Maybe something like rapache but that's actually working?

Prevent virtual host on same server interact on apache

In document root :/var/www/html/ -- i have http:// serverA.com and i create virtual host on folder :/var/www/html/serverB --- http:// serverB.com They work great for both. but the problem is, i can access serverB files with url http: // serverA.com/ serverB / (which i dont want that happen) how to prevent that ? thx in advance

Apache on Windows - splitting vHost logs

I have a Windows Server 2008 running Apache, and it will be hosting several virtual hosts. I'd rather not use the logrotate tool (|bin/logrotate), as it seems create significant extra overhead with all the processes. Is there a simple Windows alternative to get the log entries from a combined log file split into several per-site files? Preferably with custom output directories, but that is optional.

Apache authentication, security exceptions and safari

I have apache authentication set up on a site, it works fine in firefox and chrome, you type in the username/pass once and then you can happily visit any page on the site. Unfortunately this is not the behavior in safari. Every time you go to another page, you must re-enter your credentials. Is there some way I can look at the security exceptions for safari and set it to always trust the certificate or find some other setting to not ask for authentication on each page?

PHP `virtual()` with Apache MultiViews not working after upgrade to 12.04

I use PHP's virtual() directive quite a lot on one of my sites, including central elements. This worked fine for the last ~10 years -- but after upgrading to 12.04 it somehow got broken. Example setup (simplified) To make it easier to understand, I simplify some things (contents). So say I need a HTML fragment like <P>For further instructions, please look <A HREF='foobar'>here</P> in multiple pages. 10 years ago, I used SSI for that, so it is put into a file in a central place -- so if e.g. the targeted URL changes, I only need to update it in one place. To serve multiple languages, I have Apache's MultiViews enabled -- and at $DOCUMENT_ROOT/central/ there are the files: foobar.html (English variant, and the default) foobar.html.de (German variant). Now in the PHP code, I simply placed: <? virtual("/central/foobar"); ?> and let Apache take care to deliver the correct language variant. The problem As said, this worked fine for about 10 years: German visitors got the German variant, all others the English (depending on their preferred language). But after upgrading to Ubuntu 12.04, it no longer worked: Either nothing was delivered from the virtual() command, or (in connection with framesets) it even ended up in binary gibberish. Trying to figure out what happens, I played with a lot of things. I first thought MultiViews was (somehow) not available anymore -- but calling http://<server>/central/foobar showed the right variant, depending on the configured language preferences. This also proved there was nothing wrong with file permissions. The error.log gave no clues either (no error message thrown). Finally, just as a "last ressort", I changed the PHP command to <? virtual("central/foobar.html"); ?> -- and that very same file was in fact included. But the language dependend stuff obviously did no longer work. Of course I tried to find some change (most likely in PHP's virtual() command), using Google a lot, and also searching the questions here -- unfortunately to no avail. Finally: The question Putting "design questions" aside (surely today I would design things differently -- but at least currently I miss the time to change that for a quite huge amount of pages): What can be done to make it work again? I surely missed something -- but I cannot figure out what...

Apache 'You don't have permission to access / on this server'

I just install apache2 on ubuntu,the default www directory is /var/www/ ,I use ln to link it to '/media/Software/Program Files/wamp/www/' at the windows directory,but the apache shows 'You don't have permission to access / on this server',Then I use 'sudo chmod -R 777 /media/Software/Program\ Files/wamp/www/' to set the permission,but it didn't work,and nothing changed when I saw the permission in the preporties of the '.../wamp/www' folder.So I want to know How can I change the www directory to '.../wamp/www' as I also need to access this diretory in windows.

Apache mod_pagespeed ignores redirected pages

Using mod_pagespeed (https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/module) with an Apache Server, I noticed that some pages were not being processed. The pages in question all had one similar attribute - they were "redirected" pages - for example an ErrorDocument response or an "index.html" file serving as the response when a directory is requested. Is there any way to remedy this? I've checked the FAQ and had a good trawl through the PageSpeed Documentation but to no avail.

Stop Apache serving filetypes

Preferably using .htaccess files, though .conf files are an option, is there any way to stop Apache serving certain filetypes? For example, .db shouldn't be served for obvious reason (privacy and whatnot, etc.), so could I make them show as a 404 but still have them available for my CGI scripts? Putting these sensitive files in a directory other than /public_HTML/ is also an option, though I like having them in the same directory as the scripts for ease of use. Cheers

I'm working on a project that uses some icons that are under a Creative Commons license (ND) that forbids modification of the picture. What can I do with this icons as a programmer? Can I modify the looks of the image in the program as long as I don't change anything in the file that contains the icon? Have I modified the image if I put a colored transparent layer over it so the color of the icon changes?

Running Apache 2.2 as another user on Windows Server 2008 R2

Hi, I would like to run apache as a limited user on Windows 2008 R2 for security reasons. I've created a user in the user group (let's call it apache), and set the user to run as in the services pane, but then I am unable to start the service (probably not enough permission to bind to port 80). What is the minimum privileges needed to run apache on windows 2008, or what should I do to allow the user apache to bind apache 2.2 to port 80? Thanks!

How can I tell what Apache modules are available to me?

I'm currently reading 'Definitive Guide to Apache mod_rewrite' and throughout the book there are other Apache modules mentioned that are better alternatives in given scenarios. This has got me wondering what all is installed on my site. I don't have SSH access to the server, and I don't have access to any of the config files (afaik). Is there any way for me to determine what is installed, or do I have to directly ask my host? I suppose certain commands could be run inside PHP (i.e. using backticks), but I'm not sure what the limitations of that are. Thanks.
