  • Ping.eu

    - by Sarang
Found an interesting resource thanks to a close friend. Ping.eu is a free service which would let you test various aspects related to networks which would typically be pain inducing doing it on your own. For seasoned network professional having a MAC address of their own instead of a name :) this might not be that useful. However for a layperson like me this an invaluable resource. These guys provide you with following services: Ping – Shows how long it takes for packets to reach host Traceroute – Traces the route of packets to destination host from our server DNS lookup – Look up DNS record WHOIS – Lists contact info for an IP or domain Port check – Tests if port is opened on specified IP Reverse lookup – Gets hostname by IP address Proxy checker – Detects a proxy server Mail relaying – Tests relaying capabilities of specified mail-server Bandwidth meter – Detects your download speed from our server Network calculator – Calculates subnet range by network mask Network mask calculator – Calculates network mask by subnet range Country by IP – Detects country by IP or hostname Unit converter – Converts values from one unit to another   Taken straight from their site. Thanks Ping.eu

  • Ping to IP address returned Destination Unreachable for a different IP address... huh?

    - by Hafthor
This was totally an isolated incident, but I performed this command: ping 192.168.1.134 and got this result [image]: Pinging 192.168.1.134 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.1.133: Destination host unreachable. Reply from 192.168.1.134: bytes=32 time=75ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.1.134: bytes=32 time=83ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.1.134: bytes=32 time=96ms TTL=128 note the .133 in the first 'unreachable' reply. I guess I don't understand how this is possible - even given a totally crazy coincidence.

  • Is there any way to ARP ping on Windows?

    - by e-t172
On Linux and other systems, there is an utility called arping which can be used to send ARP requests ("pings") and show the answers, much like the "ping" utility but using ARP instead of ICMP. Is there any way to do the same on Windows? (I use Windows 7)

  • Why does my MacBook Pro have long ping times over Wi-Fi?

    - by randynov
I have been having problems connecting with my Wi-Fi. It is weird, the ping times to the router (<30 feet away) seem to surge, often getting over 10 seconds before slowly coming back down. You can see the trend below. I'm on a MacBook Pro and have done the normal stuff (reset the PRAM and SMC, changed wireless channels, etc.). It happens across different routers, so I think it must be my laptop, but I don't know what it could be. The RSSI value hovers around -57, but I've seen the transmit rate flip between 0, 48 and 54. The signal strength is ~60% with 9% noise. Currently, there are 17 other wireless networks in range, but only one in the same channel. 1 - How can I figure out what's going on? 2 - How can I correct the situation? • What to do if I can't ping my DNS?

    - by Moshe Lewin
On my Windows XP SP3 machine I can only browse (with any browser) by putting in an ip address. If I put in any domain name it doesn't work. Skype and IM work. In command prompt nslookup works to resolve the name to an ip address, but ping does not work using a domain name, only using the ip address. Other computers on the same network can surf the net normally without any problems. I am not using a proxy. I already reset winsock and tcpip stack to no avail. Can anyone help me solve the problem?

What I am trying to do, is figure out if a remote machine is replying to ping. One of my tests is to turn off the machine and ping it. For some reason, ping sets errorlevel to 0.

  • When I ping Internet addresses like yahoo or Google, I get 2 reply packets and 2 lost packets.

    - by navi
I have Airtel broadband and a Tata broadband connection. i have around 50 PCs connecting through an airtel broadband connection. Both are dsl connections with my phone line going into dsl modems and an Ethernet cable going from dsl modem directly into a switch. Currently, only airtel connection is connected with static IP on my private lan and using the airtel ISP DNS servers as DNS IP address and the default gateway is 192.168.1.1 (IP add. of the dsl modem). All PCs are connected in a work group. When in full use, my users complain of certain web pages are not opening. When I ping Internet addresses like Yahoo or Google I get 2 reply packets and 2 lost packets. I suspect that a single broadband connection is not able to sustain 50 simultaneous downloads/browsing. Is there any device which connect to both DSL and make one line so that its give me high speed simultaneous browsing. Help needed urgently. Thank you all to those who reply.

  • Ubuntu 12.04 Server ping gateway responds with destination host unreachable

    - by blckblttkd
I consider myself fairly avid with Ubuntu and Linux, but this one has me stumped. I built up a Xen Server using Ubuntu 12.04 as the base operating system. It has multiple domUs running on it. My home network has a statically defined network where I got all the network connectivity going peachy. The server was moved to a permanent home this morning. So, the network configuration on the main system had to change. Again, another static network, but now I can't ping the upstream gateway from the host. As the VMs use this NIC over a bridge, they too are broken. Ping responds with "destination host unreachable." I simplified the networking down to a simple static network as seen below (no bridge or anything) just to get it to work. Here's the contents of my /etc/network/interfaces file: auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 216.7.188.228 gateway 216.7.188.225 netmask 255.255.255.240 broadcast 216.7.188.255 network 216.7.188.0 dns-nameservers 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 Here's the contents of route -n 0.0.0.0 216.7.188.225 0.0.0.0 UG 100 0 0 eth0 216.7.188.224 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.240 U 0 0 0 eth0 And the results of pinging the gateway: PING 216.7.188.225 (216.7.188.225) 56(84) bytes of data. From 216.7.188.228 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable From 216.7.188.228 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable From 216.7.188.228 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable Again, this worked in one network flawlessly (obviously with different parameters in the interfaces file). I did try using eth1 (as there are two NICS on the server (in case the MAC address got flipped on bootup). No success there. Yes, the cable is in the right port now :) Any thoughts? I appreciate the help!

    - by Xinwang
I have three machine in my home network connected by a wireless router. One is server installed linux at 192.168.1.1, another is Thinkpad with MS Windows XP at 192.168.1.2, last one is MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.6.3 at 192.168.1.3. When I ping the Linux Server from Thinkpad (MS Windows XP) I can get the correct ip address, but when I ping it from Mac I get the global address of my router, like 61.135.181.175. • Linux server cannot be pinged

    - by misamisa
I have set up a Linux server in DMZ. There is another Windows server running in same DMZ. These two servers can be pinged via internet using my home PC. However, the another Linux server rented from a hosting service provider can only be pinged from the Windows Server and not from the Linux server (accessed via internet). So the situation is: Windows server (DMZ) ---ping--- Rented Server.....Successful Linux server (DMZ) ---ping--- Rented Server.......Unreachable Home PC ---ping--- Linux server (DMZ).......Successful Home PC ---ping--- Windows server (DMZ).....Successful When I ran tcpdump on my Linux Server(DMZ) and started ping from Rented Server, it showed that the Linux Server(DMZ) is receiving ping and replying. There is no restriction defined in hosts.deny and hosts.allow file that might cause this problem. What else should I check to get this working?

  • Destination host unreachable, but the errorlevel is 0 (from a win7)

From a windows 7 machine, I ping a non existing ip address. C:ping 192.168.1.222 Pinging 192.168.1.222 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.1.222: Destination host unreachable. Reply from 192.168.1.222: Destination host unreachable. Reply from 192.168.1.222: Destination host unreachable. Ping statistics for 192.168.1.222: Packets: Sent = 3, Received = 3, Lost = 0 (0% loss) Even though there is no reply, the errorlevel is set to 0. *what I am trying to do, is figure out if a remote machine is replying to ping. One of my test is to turn off the machine and ping it. For some reason, ping sets errorlevel to 0 *

  • ASA 5540 v8.4(3) vpn to ASA 5505 v8.2(5), tunnel up but I cant ping from 5505 to IP on other side

    - by user223833
I am having problems pinging from a 5505(remote) to IP 10.160.70.10 in the network behind the 5540(HQ side). 5505 inside IP: 10.56.0.1 Out: 71.43.109.226 5540 Inside: 10.1.0.8 out: 64.129.214.27 I Can ping from 5540 to 5505 inside 10.56.0.1. I also ran ASDM packet tracer in both directions, it is ok from 5540 to 5505, but drops the packet from 5505 to 5540. It gets through the ACL and dies at the NAT. Here is the 5505 config, I am sure it is something simple I am missing. - by mushfiq
I am an Ubuntu user for the last couple of years. Recently facing problem to connect my new laptop into the Internet. I have an ISP connection which provide me a NAT address. I changed all the information in network configuration. The network icon shows it is connected to Internet but when I browse, ping shows no Internet connection. /etc/network/interfaces look like this: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.100.118(put you internet address provided by the ISP) gateway 192.168.100.1(gateway address) netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.100.0 And when I ping my DNS server IP get the reply from DNS server. I can not understand the problem,it should be mentioned that I also changed the Physical address of my laptop for using the existing connection. In windows the connection is working fine. - by ybbest
If you are unable ping your windows server 2008 r2 machine or if you have a “one way ping problem”. You need to check whether you have it enabled in your windows firewall. To enable it , you need to do the following: 1. You need to go to control panel >> windows firewall >> Advanced settings 2. Go to Inbound Rules and enable File and Printer Sharing (Echo Request – ICMPv4-In),after you have done this ,your computer will become pingable.

  • Can't ping external websites

    - by Frantumn
I can't ping google.com with my virtual ubuntu 12.04 server. I have set up a proxy URL in my /etc/apt/apt.conf file and it says Aquire::http::proxy http://urlname.com:9999; Now, I don't know a lot about how the proxy works, but I do know when we use it on windows VMachines it's a pac script that we place in internet explorer LAN settings and it automatically detects the script and gives internet access. I tried including the 9999/proxy.pac in the apt.conf URL and it didn't seem to work any better. Would ubuntu know how to handle a proxy.pac assuming it was created for windows? Should my URL include the .pac or just end after the port numbers? I've tried both without sucess, but I would like to know. A quick test to ping a fellow co-workers' PC was sucessful. So I can see network computers, but not google. or other internet sources.

  • Ping one remote server from another remote server

    - by user666254
It's simple to ping a server in C#, but suppose I have servers A, B and C. A connects to B. A asks B to ping C, to check that B can talk to C. A needs to read the outcome. Now, first of all is this possible without installing an application onto B? In other words, can I perform the entire check from just running a program on A? If so, can anyone suggest the route I would take to achieve this? I've looked at sockets but from the examples I've seen these require a client AND server application to function.
