  I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. I'm affraid I've installed a virus on my computer (I've clicked a link which was a virus), I'd prefere to check if everything is fine. I've installed clamAV using Synaptic. The installed version was 0.96.5, while the most recent version is 0.97.6. When I was trying to update virus database, I got a warning that the version of clamAV I'm using is outdated. Since I didn't know how to update the software by Synaptic or apt (both show the installed version as the newest) I've uninstalled all and downloaded the recent version from sourceforge. I've unpacked the tar.gz archive, entered the folder but when I type ./configure I'm getting the message: configure: error: Please install zlib and zlib-devel packages When I type sudo aptitude install zlib zlib-devel The terminal output says there is no such packages (there is no package zlib-devel and there is many packages which name contain zlib). I suppose the link contained probably the Windows virus, but I'd prefere to make sure there is nothing in my computer. As well as I'm not sure if the virus, even without harming my system, can send itself to my e-mail contacts or not.

• Problem reintegrating a branch into the trunk in Subversion 1.5

  I'm trying to reintegrate a development branch into the trunk in my Subversion 1.5 repository. I merged all the changes from the trunk to the development branch prior to this operation. Now when I try to reintegrate the changes from the branch I get the following error message: Command: Reintegrate merge https://dev/svn/branches/devel into C:\trunk Error: Reintegrate can only be used if revisions 280 through 325 were previously Error: merged from https://dev/svn/trunk to the reintegrate Error: source, but this is not the case: Error: branches/devel/images/test Error: Missing ranges: /trunk/images/test:280-324 ... The message then goes on complaining about some folders in my project. But when I try to merge the changes from the trunk to the development branch again, TortoiseSVN tells me that there's nothing to merge (as I already merged all the changes before): Command: Merging revisions 1-HEAD of https://dev/svn/trunk into C:\devel, respecting ancestry Completed: C:\devel I'm trying to follow the instructions from here: http://svnbook.red-bean.com/en/1.5/svn.branchmerge.basicmerging.html, but there's nothing about solving such a problem. Any ideas? Perhaps I should just delete the trunk and then make a copy of my branch? But I'm not really sure if it's safe.

• Design Book–Dimensional or No Dimensional, that is..the question

  So, it is right there in the title of the book “Relational Database Design” etc (the title is kinda long :)  But as I consider what to cover and, conversely, what not to cover, dimensional design inevitably pops up. So I am considering including it in the book. One thing I try to do is to cover topics to a level where you can start using it immediately, and I am not sure that I could get a deep enough coverage of the subject to do that. • Rhythmbox not saving the album art permanently

  I run ubuntu 10.10 and use rhythmbox (version 0.13.1) regularly with the albumartsearch plugin installed. However when I change the album art it is only temporary. On moving to the next song it automatically removes the previous song's album art cover. (I do know about banshee but would like to use rhythmbox). The cover art plugin is also installed by default however it cannot display some of the album covers since the songs are in my local language (tamil) hence it cannot retrieve the album cover from the internet. However the albumartsearch plugin seems to do the job although only temporarily. Any reason why it might be? I have tried looking for other rhythmbox plugins which might be similar to albumartsearch but in vain. Any help would be appreciated. I have filed a bug in the albumartsearch plugin's website. Waiting for the reply.

• Subversion 1.7.x and expat location in configure

  I am running CentOS 6.3 64bit and DirectAdmin control panel. Currently I have installed Apache Subversion 1.6.19 without any problems. I have installed expat and expat-devel and neon-devel using yum. When installing Apache Subversion 1.6.19 this configure command works fine: ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-ssl --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs --with-apr=/usr/bin/apr-config However when installing Apache Subversion 1.7.7 using the same configure command as above, I get this error after doing commmand "make": /etc/httpd/lib/libaprutil-1.so: undefined reference to `XML_StopParser' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [subversion/svnadmin/svnadmin] Error 1 However I found out I can solve that problem by adding this into the configure command: --with-expat=includes:lib_search_dirs:libs So it then looks like this: ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-ssl --with-expat=includes:lib_search_dirs:libs --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs --with-apr=/usr/bin/apr-config However that configure command then give this warning: configure: WARNING: Expat found amongst libraries used by APR-Util, but Subversion libraries might be needlessly linked against additional unused libraries. It can be avoided by specifying exact location of Expat in argument of --with-expat option. So I want to solve that. I have experimentet alot, but not been able to figure out how to "specifying exact location of Expat" in configure command, and how to find out what the location should be? However after a lot of searching I found this: http://subversion.tigris.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=3997 - that is a FreeBSD user saying this: Building Subversion 1.7.x on FreeBSD currently requires a configure flag: --with-expat=/usr/local/include:/usr/local/lib:expat As that is the default location of expat on that platform, it would be nice if configure detected it automatically. However I am not using FreeBSD, I am running CentOS 6.3 64bit. Also remember I said I have installed expat and expat-devel and neon-devel using yum. However I tried to use the expat/command path posted by the FreeBSD user, and it seems to work, it does not give errors when running configure command, and does not give errors when running "make". This is what I used then: ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-ssl --with-expat=/usr/local/include:/usr/local/lib:expat --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs --with-apr=/usr/bin/apr-config But this server is a production server, and therfor I need your help to advice if this is also correct to run on a CentOS server? Is the following path in expat command correct on CentOS?: --with-expat=/usr/local/include:/usr/local/lib:expat If not, please advice what it should be changed to. • Rails: radio button selection for nested forms objects

  I have the following form for photo_album which uses the nested forms feature of the Rails in saving the photos while updating the photo_album. And having trouble with the selection of radio button value. I want only one of the photos be able to select as the album cover, but due to the way rails produces form element ids and names, I am able to select all of the photos as album covers. • Why aren't my objects sorting with sortedArrayUsingDescriptors?

  I expected the code below to return the objects in imageSet as a sorted array. Instead, there's no difference in the ordering before and after. I don't know why sorting on managed objects would work any differently than on "regular" objects, but maybe it matters.   While trying to install Nagios 3.2.3, I ran their ./configure script and got these errors: checking for main in -liconv... no checking for gdImagePng in -lgd (order 1)... no checking for gdImagePng in -lgd (order 2)... no checking for gdImagePng in -lgd (order 3)... no checking for gdImagePng in -lgd (order 4)... no *** GD, PNG, and/or JPEG libraries could not be located... ********* Boutell's GD library is required to compile the statusmap, trends and histogram CGIs. Get it from http://www.boutell.com/gd/, compile it, and use the --with-gd-lib and --with-gd-inc arguments to specify the locations of the GD library and include files. NOTE: In addition to the gd-devel library, you'll also need to make sure you have the png-devel and jpeg-devel libraries installed on your system. NOTE: After you install the necessary libraries on your system: 1. Make sure /etc/ld.so.conf has an entry for the directory in which the GD, PNG, and JPEG libraries are installed. 2. Run 'ldconfig' to update the run-time linker options. 3. Run 'make clean' in the Nagios distribution to clean out any old references to your previous compile. 4. Rerun the configure script. NOTE: If you can't get the configure script to recognize the GD libs on your system, get over it and move on to other things. The CGIs that use the GD libs are just a small part of the entire Nagios package. Get everything else working first and then revisit the problem. • Pro ASP.NET MVC Framework Review

  Early in my career, when I wanted to learn a new technology, I’d sit in the bookstore aisle and I’d work my way through each of the available books on the given subject.  Put in enough time in a bookstore and you can learn just about anything. I used to really enjoy my time in the bookstore – but times have certainly changed.  Whereas books used to be the only place I could find solutions to my problems, now they may be the very last place I look.  I have been working with the ASP.NET MVC Framework for more than a year.  I have a few projects and a couple of major deployments under my belt and I was able to get up to speed with the framework without reading a single book*.  With so many resources at our fingertips (podcasts, screencasts, blogs, stackoverflow, open source projects, www.asp.net, you name it) why bother with a book? Well, I flipped through Steven Sanderson’s Pro ASP.NET MVC Framework a few months ago. And since it is prominently displayed in my co-worker’s office, I tend to pick it up as a reference from time to time.  Last week, I’m not sure why, I decided to read it cover to cover.  Man, did I eat this book up.  Granted, a lot of what I read was review, but it was only review because I had already learned lessons by piecing the puzzle together for myself via various sources. If I were starting with ASP.NET MVC (or ASP.NET Web Deployment in general) today, the first thing I would do is buy Steven Sanderson’s Pro ASP.NET MVC Framework and read it cover to cover. Steven Sanderson did such a great job with this book! As much as I appreciated the in-depth model, view, and controller talk, I was completely impressed with all the extra bits which were included.  There a was nice overview of BDD, view engine comparisons, a chapter dedicated to security and vulnerabilities, IoC, TDD and Mocking (of course), IIS deployment options and a nice overview of what the .NET platform and C# offers.  Heck, Sanderson even include bits about webforms! The book is fantastic and I highly recommend it – even if you think you’ve already got your head around ASP.NET MVC.  By the way, procrastinators may be in luck.  ASP.NET MVC V2 Framework can be pre-ordered.  You might want to jump right into the second edition and find out what Sanderson has to say about MVC 2. * Actually, I did read through the free bits of Professional ASP.NET MVC 1.0.  But it was just a chapter – albeit a really long chapter.

• Setting up dnsmasq for a local network

  Me, and a small group of developers have just moved to a new office, and I'd like to set up dnsmasq on our development server, so when we deploy web apps there, we don't have to edit our own hosts files. We have a router at 192.168.3.1 which we don't have access to. I figured I'd install a DNS server on the development box, and we all record it's IP as a secondary DNS server. Unfortunately I'm strugling to make this work. The name of the devel server is devbox, it's IP is 192.168.3.99, and it's running the latest Ubuntu Server (Karmic) My computer is running Ubuntu Desktop (Karmic) What I'd like to achieve Let's say I have three websites, website1, website2, website3, running on the development box. I'd like to access them by the urls: http://website1.devbox http://website2.devbox http://website3.devbox So I have configured Apache on the devel box, installed dnsmasq, and put the following lines into it's hosts file: 192.168.3.99 website1.devbox 192.168.3.99 website2.devbox 192.168.3.99 website3.devbox and edited my own resolv.conf file to include the devel box as a nameserver: nameserver 192.168.3.99 It's working fine, I can access the sites. The problem is that it doesn't scale well. I'd like all the domains ending with .devbox forwarded to the development box, and this is what I'm struggling with. I have tried putting 192.168.3.99 devbox into the hosts file, and editing the line in dnsmasq.conf: # Add local-only domains here, queries in these domains are answered # from /etc/hosts or DHCP only. local=/devbox/ But I cannot get it working. If I try any url that is not explicitly present in the development box's hosts file, the dns lookup fails. Is the local directive for something else? Am I looking at the wrong place?
