    Hi, I'm puzzled by some behaviour I'm seeing when copying a float array member into another variable - please help! For example data_entry[1] = 9.6850069951 new_value = data_entry[1] <comment> #print both 9.6850069951 9.6850663300 I'm aware of the problem of binary storage of floats but I thought with a direct copy of memory we would end up with the same value. Any ideas? I need better precision than this! thanks in advance Stuart

  • Python operators returning ints

    Is there any way to have Python operators line "==" and "" return ints instead of bools. I know that I could use the int function (int(1 == 1)) or add 0 ((1 == 1) + 0) but I was wondering if there was an easy way to do it. Like when you want division to return floats you could type from __future__ import division. Is there any way to do this with operators returning ints? Or could I make a class extending __future__._Feature that would do what I want?

As a sample: int main() { float nb = 3.11f; nb *= 10; printf("%f\n", nb); } Displays: 31.099998 I am curious regarding the way floats are implemented and why it produces this unexpected behavior?

    I have 3 spans inside a div. text-align:center isn't working (tried on the parent too) text-align: -moz-center neither (on ff2) i have to use spans no floats -moz-inline-box or -moz-inline-stack ? with -moz-inline-block it's working but the 2nd and 3rd spans clear left… Anyone got an idea? (fixing #6 is an alternative)

    Hi, I'm trying to get my wrapper to hold my content but it won't. I've taken out the floats and added "overflow: visible" no no avail.   • Efficient way to store tuples in the datastore

    If I have a pair of floats, is it any more efficient (computationally or storage-wise) to store them as a GeoPtProperty than it would be pickle the tuple and store it as a BlobProperty? If GeoPt is doing something more clever to keep multiple values in a single property, can it be leveraged for arbitrary data? Can I store the tuple ("Johnny", 5) in a single entity property in a similarly efficient manner?

  • Why isnt int pow(int base, int exponent) in the standard C++ libraries?

    I feel like I must just be unable to find it. Is there any reason that the c++ pow function does not implement the "power" function for anything except floats and doubles? I know the implementation is trivial, I just feel like I'm doing work that should be in a standard library. A robust power function (ie handles overflow in some consistent, explicit way) is not fun to write.

    I have two floats in Python that I'd like to subtract, i.e. v1 = float(value1) v2 = float(value2) diff = v1 - v2 I want "diff" to be computed upto two significant figures, that is compute it using %.2f of v1 and %.2f of v2. How can I do this? I know how to print v1 and v2 up to two decimals, but not how to do arithmetic like that. thanks.

I have seen float="right" applied on a span to right align it but it seems semantically incorrect to me as floats are supposed to move "boxes" or block elements to the right or left of a container element. That is drawing with AND, OR, etc However i am storing colors using floats, each channel between 0 and 1.0 Do i have to first convert each color channel to 0-255 before i can use the AND, OR, etc drawing modes? and then convert back to float (0.0-1.0) ?
