  • Java program strange behavior, how to fix it ?

    - by Frank
My notebook has Intel CPU, running Windows Vista. My program looks like this : public class Tool_Lib_Simple { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("123"); } } When I run it, I expect to see : "123", but the output was : "Hi NM : How are you NM ?" which was the old output from two days ago before I changed my program. If I copy this program into another project in Netbean 6.7, it will run correctly and output "123", and if I change the program name from "Tool_Lib_Simple" to something else, it will also output "123", but just not under the name of "Tool_Lib_Simple" in the current project's src directory, I've deleted the "build" directory and did re-compile, re-build, it still gives me "Hi NM : How are you NM ?" as a result, seems to me the old version of my program is saved in the hard drive or ram and got stuck there, I've programmed many years, hardly ever encounter this kind of problem, how to fix this ? • Google App Engine modifyThreadGroup problem

    - by Frank
I'm using Google App Engine to process Paypal IPN messages, when my servlet starts I use the following lines to start another process to process massages : public class PayPal_Monitor_Servlet extends HttpServlet { PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Worker PayPal_message_to_license_file_worker; public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException // Initializes the servlet. { super.init(config); PayPal_message_to_license_file_worker=new PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Worker(); } public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request,HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException { } ... } public class PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Worker implements Runnable { static Thread PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Thread; ... PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Worker() { start(); } void start() { if (PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Thread==null) { PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Thread=new Thread(this); PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Thread.setPriority(Thread.MIN_PRIORITY); PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Thread.start(); } ... } But "PayPal_Message_To_License_File_Thread=new Thread(this);" is causing the following error : javax.servlet.ServletContext log: unavailable java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.lang.RuntimePermission modifyThreadGroup) at java.security.AccessControlContext.checkPermission(AccessControlContext.java:355) at java.security.AccessController.checkPermission(AccessController.java:567) Why, how to fix it ? Possible solution after googlising : Use Windows Identity Foundation. Thank you, Frank

  • Does Google App Engine allow creation of files and folders on the server ?

    - by Frank
    I know Google App Engine offers free space, but I wonder if it's for storing data in it's database only or does it also allow me to create files and directories on the server side to store my data ? For instance can I use the following method to save file ? public static void saveFile(String File_Path,StringBuffer Str_Buf,boolean Append) { FileOutputStream fos=null; BufferedOutputStream bos=null; try { fos=new FileOutputStream(File_Path,Append); bos=new BufferedOutputStream(fos); for (int j=0;j<Str_Buf.length();j++) bos.write(Str_Buf.charAt(j)); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { try { if (bos!=null) { bos.close(); bos=null; } if (fos!=null) { fos.close(); fos=null; } } catch (Exception ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } } } Frank

  • Program seems to get stuck ?

    - by Frank
I have a Java program, I did some change and the strange thing is no matter what I do now, it will output the same result before my change, I looked into my system (Windows Vista), and clicked on "Generate a system health report", the result says : Symptom : A service is reported as having an unexpected error code Cause : One or more services has failed. The service did not stop gracefully, suggesting the service may have crashed or one of its components stopped in an unsupported way. Details : Service exited with code not equal to 0 or 1077 Resolution : Restart the service It doesn't say which service, and I defragmented my drives a few times, it still gave me the same report. I also checked my memory, it says no problem with ram. Everything else is ok, I re-started the windows a few times, got more free space on my C: drive, yet the Java program is still not responding to my new changes, unless I intentionally make a mistake, it gives me compile error, but if it can compile successfully, it still gives me the results before the change. What can I do to fix this ? Frank

  • Copy NSArray and replace text items with bool values

    - by Frank Martin
I utilize a (nested) plist to populate UITableViews where users can select entries at the deepest levels and set a checkmark (or not). I want to save these selections in a same structured list where at the deepest level the NSArray contains bool values instead the text strings that are displayed in the UITableView. So how can i build from a hierarchy like the following: Root - Item 0 (Dictionary) - Group (Dictionary) - Items (NSArray) - Item 0: @"Please check me" (String) a hierarchy like this? Root - Item 0 (Dictionary) - Group (Dictionary) - Items (NSArray) - Item 0: 0 (NSNumber) // NSNumber for bool values I'm trying to create a deep mutable copy and replace the items at the deepest levels but have somehow the feeling that this can be done easier. Thanks for any help with this in advance. Frank

  • Social Technology and the Potential for Organic Business Networks

    - by Michael Snow
Guest Blog Post by:  Michael Fauscette, IDCThere has been a lot of discussion around the topic of social business, or social enterprise, over the last few years. The concept of applying emerging technologies from the social Web, combined with changes in processes and culture, has the potential to provide benefits across the enterprise over a wide range of operations impacting employees, customers, partners and suppliers. Companies are using social tools to build out enterprise social networks that provide, among other things, a people-centric collaborative and knowledge sharing work environment which over time can breakdown organizational silos. On the outside of the business, social technology is adding new ways to support customers, market to prospects and customers, and even support the sales process. We’re also seeing new ways of connecting partners to the business that increases collaboration and innovation. All of the new "connectivity" is, I think, leading businesses to a business model built around the concept of the network or ecosystem instead of the old "stand-by-yourself" approach. So, if you think about businesses as networks in the context of all of the other technical and cultural change factors that we're seeing in the new information economy, you can start to see that there’s a lot of potential for co-innovation and collaboration that was very difficult to arrange before. This networked business model, or what I've started to call “organic business networks,” is the business model of the information economy. The word “organic” could be confusing, but when I use it in this context, I’m thinking it has similar traits to organic computing. Organic computing is a computing system that is self-optimizing, self-healing, self-configuring, and self-protecting. More broadly, organic models are generally patterns and methods found in living systems used as a metaphor for non-living systems.Applying an organic model, organic business networks are networks that represent the interconnectedness of the emerging information business environment. Organic business networks connect people, data/information, content, and IT systems in a flexible, self-optimizing, self-healing, self-configuring, and self-protecting system. People are the primary nodes of the network, but the other nodes — data, content, and applications/systems — are no less important.A business built around the organic business network business model would incorporate the characteristics of a social business, but go beyond the basics—i.e., use social business as the operational paradigm, but also use organic business networks as the mode of operating the business. The two concepts complement each other: social business is the “what,” and the organic business network is the “how.”An organic business network lets the business work go outside of traditional organizational boundaries and become the continuously adapting implementation of an optimized business strategy. Value creation can move to the optimal point in the network, depending on strategic influencers such as the economy, market dynamics, customer behavior, prospect behavior, partner behavior and needs, supply-chain dynamics, predictive business outcomes, etc.An organic business network driven company is the antithesis of a hierarchical, rigid, reactive, process-constrained, and siloed organization. Instead, the business can adapt to changing conditions, leverage assets effectively, and thrive in a hyper-connected, global competitive, information-driven environment. To hear more on this topic – I’ll be presenting in the next webcast of the Oracle Social Business Thought Leader Webcast Series - “Organic Business Networks: Doing Business in a Hyper-Connected World” this coming Thursday, June 21, 2012, 10:00 AM PDT – Register here

  • Call asp.net mvc Html Helper within custom html helper with expression parameter

    - by Frank Michael Kraft
I am trying to write an html helper extension within the asp.net mvc framework. public static MvcHtmlString PlatformNumericTextBoxFor<TModel>(this HtmlHelper instance, TModel model, Expression<Func<TModel, double>> selector) where TModel : TableServiceEntity { var viewModel = new PlatformNumericTextBox(); var func = selector.Compile(); MemberExpression memExpession = (MemberExpression)selector.Body; string name = memExpession.Member.Name; var message = instance.ValidationMessageFor<TModel, double>(selector); viewModel.name = name; viewModel.value = func(model); viewModel.validationMessage = String.Empty; var result = instance.Partial(typeof(PlatformNumericTextBox).Name, viewModel); return result; } The line var message = instance.ValidationMessageFor<TModel, double>(selector); has a syntax error. But I do not understand it. The error is: Fehler 2 "System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper" enthält keine Definition für "ValidationMessageFor", und die Überladung der optimalen Erweiterungsmethode "System.Web.Mvc.Html.ValidationExtensions.ValidationMessageFor(System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper, System.Linq.Expressions.Expression)" weist einige ungültige Argumente auf. C:\Projects\WorkstreamPlatform\WorkstreamPlatform_WebRole\Extensions\PlatformHtmlHelpersExtensions.cs 97 27 WorkstreamPlatform_WebRole So according to the message, the parameter is invalid. But the method is actually declared like this: public static MvcHtmlString ValidationMessageFor<TModel, TProperty>(this HtmlHelper<TModel> htmlHelper, Expression<Func<TModel, TProperty>> expression); So actually it should work.

  • Getting mysql row that doesn't conflict with another row

    - by user939951
I have two tables that link together through an id one is "submit_moderate" and one is "submit_post" The "submit_moderate" table looks like this id moderated_by post 1 James 60 2 Alice 32 3 Tim 18 4 Michael 60 Im using a simple query to get data from the "submit_post" table according to the "submit_moderate" table. $get_posts = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM submit_moderate WHERE moderated_by!='$user'"); $user is the person who is signed in. Now my problem is when I run this query, with the user 'Michael' it will retrieve this 1 James 60 2 Alice 32 3 Tim 18 Now technically this is correct however I don't want to retrieve the first row because 60 is associated with Michael as well as James. Basically I don't want to retrieve that value '60'. I know why this is happening however I can't figure out how to do this. I appreciate any hints or advice I can get.

  • Systematically resolve conflicting styles in css

    - by Frank Michael Kraft
I have some stylesheets from different sources in my web project. I want to harmonize them. Some styles I need from the one, some from the other. Is there a tool or method how to systematically resolve style conflicts? I tried IE8 developer tool, and yes, it is possible to view conflicts at the level of each element. But I have many elemens, so if I do it element by element I think this takes too long. Theoretically there could be a tool that shows conflicts of two css files at design time?!? I think this would save me a lot of time.

  • .NET C# setting the value of a field defined by a lambda selector

    - by Frank Michael Kraft
I have a generic class HierarchicalBusinessObject. In the constructor of the class I pass a lambda expression that defines a selector to a field of TModel. protected HierarchicalBusinessObject (Expression<Func<TModel, string>> parentSelector) A call would look like this, for example: public class WorkitemBusinessObject : HierarchicalBusinessObject<Workitem,WorkitemDataContext> { public WorkitemBusinessObject() : base(w => w.SuperWorkitem, w => w.TopLevel == true) { } } I am able to use the selector for read within the class. For example: sourceList.Select(_parentSelector.Compile()).Where(... Now I am asking myself how I could use the selector to set a value to the field. Something like selector.Body() .... Field...

  • .NET 3.5 C# does not offer what I need for locking: Count async saves until 0 again.

    - by Frank Michael Kraft
I have some records, that I want to save to database asynchronously. I organize them into batches, then send them. As time passes, the batches are processed. In the meanwhile the user can work on. There are some critical operations, that I want to lock him out from, while any save batch is still running asynchronously. The save is done using a TableServiceContext and method .BeginSave() - but I think this should be irrelevant. What I want to do is whenever an async save is started, increase a lock count, and when it completes, decrease the lock count so that it will be zero as soon as all have finished. I want to lock out the critical operation as long as the count is not zero. Furthermore I want to qualify the lock - by business object - for example. I did not find a .NET 3.5 c# locking method, that does fulfil this requirement. A semaphore does not contain a method to check, if the count is 0. Otherwise a semaphore with unlimited max count would do.
