  • Why The Athene Group Chose Fusion CRM

    - by Tony Berk
A guest post by Vikas Bhambri, Managing Partner, The Athene Group This year, The Athene Group (www.theathenegroup.com) celebrated our tenth anniversary. The company has accomplished a lot in ten years overcoming a number of hurdles and challenges to have grown organically to a 150+ person global company with offices in the US, UK, and India and customers in the US, Canada, and Europe. Now more than ever with the current global landscape from an economic and competitive standpoint it was vital that we make some changes to remain successful for the next ten years. There were two key initiatives that we discussed internally that would enable us to successfully accomplish this – collaboration and the concept of “insight to action”. With our existing Oracle CRM On Demand platform we had components of this but not the full depth and breadth that we were looking for. When we started to discuss Fusion CRM we immediately saw several next generation tools that would embrace these two objectives. For a consulting and development organization the collaboration required between business development and consulting delivery is as important as the collaboration required during the projects between the project delivery and account management teams. The Activity Streams functionality in Fusion CRM immediately addressed the communication of key discussion topics and exchanges around our clients. Of course when we saw the Oracle Social Network (which is part of our Fusion CRM roadmap) we were blown away. The combination OSN and our CRM is going to make us more effective as we discuss and work cohesively on client engagements – ensuring mutual success for both Athene and our clients. When we looked at “insight to action” we saw that we had a great platform when folks were at their desks, unfortunately a lot of our business development and consulting folks are on the road. The Fusion Mobile Sales and Fusion Outlook Desktop provide information to our teams when they are on the go. So that they can provide real-time information and react to real-time information provided by their peers. We are in the early stages of our transformative experience with Fusion CRM but we believe the platform along with our people and processes are going to help us achieve our goals in the future.

  • Oracle Fusion Applications Design Patterns Now Available For Developers

    - by ultan o'broin
The Oracle Fusion Applications user experience design patterns are published! These new, reusable usability solutions and best-practices, which will join the Oracle dashboard patterns and guidelines that are already available online, are used by Oracle to artfully bring to life a new standard in the user experience, or UX, of enterprise applications. Now, the Oracle applications development community can benefit from the science behind the Oracle Fusion Applications user experience, too. The design patterns are based on Oracle ADF components and easily implemented in Oracle JDeveloper. These Oracle Fusion Applications UX Design Patterns, or blueprints, enable Oracle applications developers and system implementers everywhere to leverage professional usability insight when: tailoring an Oracle Fusion application, creating coexistence solutions that existing users will be delighted with, thus enabling graceful user transitions to Oracle Fusion Applications down the road, or designing exciting, new, highly usable applications in the cloud or on-premise. Based on the Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) components, the Oracle Fusion Applications patterns and guidelines are proven with real users and in the Applications UX usability labs, so you can get right to work coding productivity-enhancing designs that provide an advantage for your entire business. What’s the best way to get started? We’ve made that easy, too. The Design Filter Tool (DeFT) selects the best pattern for your user type and task. Simply adapt your selection for your own task flow and content, and you’re on your way to a really great applications user experience. More Oracle applications design patterns and training are coming your way in the future. To provide feedback on the sets that are currently available, let me know in the comments!.

  • Detect the language & django locale-url

    - by mamcx
    I want to deploy a website in english & spanish and detect the user browser languaje & redirect to the correct locale site. My site is www.elmalabarista.com I install django-localeurl, but I discover that the languaje is not correctly detected. This are my middlewares: MIDDLEWARE_CLASSES = ( 'django.contrib.sessions.middleware.SessionMiddleware', 'django.middleware.locale.LocaleMiddleware', 'multilingual.middleware.DefaultLanguageMiddleware', 'middleware.feedburner.FeedburnerMiddleware', 'lib.threadlocals.ThreadLocalsMiddleware', 'middleware.url.UrlMiddleware', 'django.contrib.auth.middleware.AuthenticationMiddleware', 'maintenancemode.middleware.MaintenanceModeMiddleware', 'middleware.redirect.RedirectMiddleware', 'openidconsumer.middleware.OpenIDMiddleware', 'django.middleware.doc.XViewMiddleware', 'middleware.ajax_errors.AjaxMiddleware', 'pingback.middleware.PingbackMiddleware', 'localeurl.middleware.LocaleURLMiddleware', 'multilingual.flatpages.middleware.FlatpageFallbackMiddleware', 'django.middleware.common.CommonMiddleware', ) But ALWAYS the site get to US despite the fact my OS & Browser setup is spanish. LANGUAGES = ( ('en', ugettext('English')), ('es', ugettext('Spanish')), ) DEFAULT_LANGUAGE = 1 Then, I hack the middleware of locale-url and do this: def process_request(self, request): locale, path = self.split_locale_from_request(request) if request.META.has_key('HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE'): locale = utils.supported_language(request.META['HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE'].split(',')[0]) locale_path = utils.locale_path(path, locale) if locale_path != request.path_info: if request.META.get("QUERY_STRING", ""): locale_path = "%s?%s" % (locale_path, request.META['QUERY_STRING']) return HttpResponseRedirect(locale_path) request.path_info = path if not locale: locale = settings.LANGUAGE_CODE translation.activate(locale) request.LANGUAGE_CODE = translation.get_language() However, this detect fine the language but redirect the "en" urls to "es". So is impossible navigate in english. UPDATE: This is the final code (after the input from Carl Meyer) with a fix for the case of "/": def process_request(self, request): locale, path = self.split_locale_from_request(request) if (not locale) or (locale==''): if request.META.has_key('HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE'): locale = utils.supported_language(request.META['HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE'].split(',')[0]) else: locale = settings.LANGUAGE_CODE locale_path = utils.locale_path(path, locale) if locale_path != request.path_info: if request.META.get("QUERY_STRING", ""): locale_path = "%s?%s" % (locale_path, request.META['QUERY_STRING']) return HttpResponseRedirect(locale_path) request.path_info = path translation.activate(locale) request.LANGUAGE_CODE = translation.get_language()

  • Problem after resizing partition for Fedora under Vmware fusion

    - by user20196
Hi, I am running FC9 under VMware Fusion 3.0 I wanted to resize my /dev/sda2 partition. In order to do that I did the following: 0. changed the size of the vmware file (under VMware settings). 1. rebooted the host to rescue mode without mounted disks 2. fdisk - removed & added /dev/sda2 - i had bigger /dev/sda2 3. lvm pvresize /dev/sda2 4. lvm pvdisplay - it showed me bigger size on /dev/VolGroup00 for /dev/sda2 5. lvm vgchange -a y - device-mapper: reload ioctl failed: Invalid argument - 2 logical volume(s) in volume group "VolGroup00" now active This is not true because there is no /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 My whole "/" disappeared. dmsetup table, shows: VolGroup00-LogVol01: 0 2097152 linear 8:2 38338944 VolGroup00-LogVol00: Can some one help me to solve this? Thank You.

  • VMWare Fusion - Cannot communicate between Host Mac and Virtual Mac running on same machine [migrated]

    - by Jeff Gold
I'm running a "virtual" Mac OS machine on a Mac running VMWare Fusion. The Virtual Mac is setup with Bridged Networking, and has its own separate IP address. The outside world can connect to either the Mac itself or the virtual Mac via their respective IP addresses just fine, this works great! The problem... the Mac itself cannot connect to the virtual Mac's IP address, nor can the virtual Mac connect to the real Mac's IP address. Some things I've read mention something about enabling VMCI, but I have no idea how to do this, or if this is even the correct solution. Any suggestions?

  • VMWare Fusion cannot connect to the NAT connection on my Mac

    - by FFish
I have been using VMWare Fusion on my Mac to check out my websites on localhost. Now I can't connect anymore with the NAT connection. There seems to be a problem with my IP address or Mac address? I have no idea what causes this, it was working fine before!? In the XP (SP2) VM, in the taskbar I see the Local Area Connection with the yellow warning icon. The bubble says: "This connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be aisle to access the Internet or some network resources. For more information, click this message." Doing that opens up the Local Area Connection Status panel. In the Support tab, when I click the repair button I get following message: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing IP address." Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Address VMWare Fusion Linux guest by hostname?

    - by amrox
I have a Ubuntu Server 9.04 image set up in VMWare Fusion 3.0.0, using the NAT option for the guest's network connection. From the Mac host, I can ssh to the linux guest just fine using it's IP address, but I would like to be able to refer to it by hostname for connivence. ie: mac-host:~ ssh [email protected] I had a similar setup using Parallels a couple years ago, but I don't remember how it was set up. It may have "just worked". Any suggestion on how to make this work?

  • Mac OS X Server 10.6.6 "disables" CPU in VMware Fusion

    - by wjlafrance
I installed Mac OS X Server 10.6.0 in VMWare Fusion the other night and it worked perfectly, until I ran Software Update. I upgraded to 10.6.6 through the combo updater, and now when I start the VM it says: "The CPU has been disabled by the guest operating system. You will need to power off or reset the virtual machine at this point." I've switched the operating system in the options to OS X Server 32bit, 64bit, and even to Windows 7, and nothing has worked. Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Fusion 3, Windows 7, frequent blue screens

    - by kenny6127
Is anyone else seeing this problem? A solution would be great (hey, it's Windows, it's gonna blue screen, just gotta deal with it), but it's also nice to know if it's something specific to my configuration, or if a lot of folks are having the same issue. Here's the details: * MacBook Pro 15" unibody, 4 GB, 2.4 GHz, 10.5.8 * Fusion 3.0.1 * Windows 7 Pro, 32-bit (clean install, not migrated from Boot Camp or anything) Blue screens happen nearly every time the MBP cover is closed for a short period of time (< 3 minutes). If the cover is closed for a half hour or longer, the VM is fine. I'm guessing it might be related to sleep, but that's hard to tell, and the Windows crash dump logs are pretty useless. Thanks!

  • Solving a difficult incomplete type error

    - by ChAoS
I get an incomplete type error when trying to compile my code. I know that it is related to includes, but my project is large and it uses several templates so I can't find which type is actually incomplete. The error message doesn't help either: Compiling: ../../../addons/ofxTableGestures/src/Graphics/objects/CursorFeedback.cpp In file included from ../../../addons/ofxTableGestures/ext/boost/fusion/include/invoke_procedure.hpp:10, from ../../../addons/ofxTableGestures/src/oscGestures/tuioApp.hpp:46, from /home/thechaos/Projectes/of_preRelease_v0061_linux_FAT/addons/../apps/OF-TangibleFramework/ofxTableGestures/src/Graphics/objects/CursorFeedback.hpp:35, from /home/thechaos/Projectes/of_preRelease_v0061_linux_FAT/addons/../apps/OF-TangibleFramework/ofxTableGestures/src/Graphics/objects/CursorFeedback.cpp:31: ../../../addons/ofxTableGestures/ext/boost/fusion/functional/invocation/invoke_procedure.hpp: In function ‘void boost::fusion::invoke_procedure(Function, const Sequence&) [with Function = void (tuio::CanBasicFingers<Graphic>::*)(long int, float, float, float, float, float), Sequence = boost::fusion::joint_view<boost::fusion::joint_view<boost::fusion::iterator_range<boost::fusion::vector_iterator<const boost::fusion::vector6<long int, float, float, float, float, float>, 0>, boost::fusion::vector_iterator<boost::fusion::vector6<long int, float, float, float, float, float>, 0> >, const boost::fusion::single_view<tuio::CanBasicFingers<Graphic>*> >, boost::fusion::iterator_range<boost::fusion::vector_iterator<boost::fusion::vector6<long int, float, float, float, float, float>, 0>, boost::fusion::vector_iterator<const boost::fusion::vector6<long int, float, float, float, float, float>, 6> > >]’: ../../../addons/ofxTableGestures/src/oscGestures/tuioApp.hpp:122: instantiated from ‘void tuio::AlternateCallback<C, M, E>::run(tuio::TEvent*) [with C = tuio::CanBasicFingers<Graphic>, M = void (tuio::CanBasicFingers<Graphic>::*)(long int, float, float, float, float, float), E = tuio::TeventBasicFingersMoveFinger]’ /home/thechaos/Projectes/of_preRelease_v0061_linux_FAT/addons/../apps/OF-TangibleFramework/ofxTableGestures/src/Graphics/objects/CursorFeedback.cpp:64: instantiated from here ../../../addons/ofxTableGestures/ext/boost/fusion/functional/invocation/invoke_procedure.hpp:88: error: incomplete type ‘boost::fusion::detail::invoke_procedure_impl<void (tuio::CanBasicFingers<Graphic>::*)(long int, float, float, float, float, float), const boost::fusion::joint_view<boost::fusion::joint_view<boost::fusion::iterator_range<boost::fusion::vector_iterator<const boost::fusion::vector6<long int, float, float, float, float, float>, 0>, boost::fusion::vector_iterator<boost::fusion::vector6<long int, float, float, float, float, float>, 0> >, const boost::fusion::single_view<tuio::CanBasicFingers<Graphic>*> >, boost::fusion::iterator_range<boost::fusion::vector_iterator<boost::fusion::vector6<long int, float, float, float, float, float>, 0>, boost::fusion::vector_iterator<const boost::fusion::vector6<long int, float, float, float, float, float>, 6> > >, 7, true, false>’ used in nested name specifier If I copy the conflictive code to a same file I can compile it. Is there any way to get the trace of the c++ compiler and preprocessor to get more informative messages?

  • Specifying routes by subdomain in Express using vhost middleware

    - by user730569
I'm using the vhost express/connect middleware and I'm a bit confused as to how it should be used. I want to have one set of routes apply to hosts with subdomains, and another set to apply for hosts without subdomains. In my app.js file, I have var app = express.createServer(); app.use...(middlware)... app.use(express.vhost('*.host', require('./domain_routing')("yes")); app.use(express.vhost('host', require('./domain_routing')("no")); app.use...(middlware)... app.listen(8000); and then in domain_routing.js: module.exports = function(subdomain){ var app = express.createServer(); require('./routes')(app, subdomain); return app; } and then in routes.js I plan to run sets of routes, dependent on the subdomain variable passed in is "yes" or "no". Am I on the right track or is this not how you use this middleware?

  • oracle access on vmware fusion

    - by gaudi_br
Hello, I'm running snow leopard and I'm doing some development that requires some network knowledge. I've installed vmware fusion 3.0 and I've set up a virtual machine with windows 2003 server. I need to mimic the exact configuration of another server in the network, so I really need to run the versions I'll be mentioning here. Besides, I set up two network configurations on the VM: one NAT config (so that I can have internet access) and one host-only config (because I need to use another server's mac adress and my local area network might have a problem with it) From the installation of windows 2003, I then installed oracle 10.2.0.1. During the installation I received a warning about the primary ip-address of the system being dhcp assigned, but I ignored it (maybe it was a mistake)... Now, from experience, unless the DHCP assigned address changes, I should be able to access the guest system's database from the host system, so I went to safari and tried to access the oracle em. As it turns out, because my computer is on a company network, the company's DNS doesn't know about the virtual machine, unless of course I switch to a bridged network config. However, I don't want to do that because I don't to mix up the domains. So I guess the question is, how can I define my own dns or router, or whatever it is that I need to define so that whenever I try the guest system's ip address form the host, it will use the vmnet1 or vmnet8 interface define by vmware and bypass the dns configuration of my local area network. I'd also like to know what to do incase I want to change ip addresses on the guest machine without having oracle go haywire (I've noticed a few folders on the structure which are specific for the very first IP Address)... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Walmart and Fusion Apps

    - by ultan o'broin
Photograph: Misha Vaughan I attended Fusion Apps (yes, I know I am supposed to say "Oracle Fusion Applications", but stuffy old style guides are a turn-off in interwebs conversations) User Experience Advocate (FXA) training in Long Beach, California last week; a suitable location as ODTUG KSCOPE 11 was kicking off and key players were in the area. As a member of Oracle's Apps-UX team I know the Fusion Apps messaging, natch, and done some other Fusion Apps go-to-market content work too. For the messaging details themselves, see Lonneke Dikmans (@lonnekedikmans) great blog, by the way. However, I wanted some 'formal' training combined with the opportunity to meet and learn from people already out there delivering those messages. The idea in me reaching out to Misha Vaughan, Apps-UX FXA maven, to get me onto this training was that in addition to my UX knowledge, I could leverage my location in EMEA and hit up customer events more quickly and easily. Those local user groups do like to hear the voice of locals too you know (so I need to work on that mid-Atlantic accent). I'm looking forward to such opportunities. The training was all smashing stuff, just the right level of detail, delivered professionally and with great style and humor. I was especially honored to be paired off for my er, coaching with Debra Lilley (@debralilley), who shared with everyone all kinds of tips and insights from her experiences of delivering the message and demo. For me, that was the real power of the FXA event--the communal, conversational aspect--the meeting up with people who had done all this for real, the sharing in their experiences, while learning along with other newbies. Sorry, but that all-important social aspect doesn't work so well with remote meetings. Katie Candland (Apps-UX) gave us a great tour of the Fusion Apps demo and included some useful presentational tips too (any excuse to buy that iPad). It's clear to me that the Fusion Apps messaging and demos really come alive with real-world examples that local application users will recognize, and I picked up some "yes, that's my job made easier" scene-stealers from Debra and Karen Brownfield too, to add to the great ones already provided. This power of examples shouldn't surprise anyone, they've long been a mainstay of applications user assistance, popular with users. We'll offer customers different types of example topics in the Fusion Apps online help too (stay tuned), and we know from research how important those 3S's (stories, scenarios, and simulations) are to users when they consume and apply information. Well, we've got the simulation, now it's time for more stories and scenarios. If you get a chance to participate in an FXA event (whether you are an Oracle employee or otherwise), I'd encourage it. It's committing your time and energy for sure, but I got real bang for the buck from it for my everyday job too. Listening to the room's feedback on the application demo really brought our internal design work to life, and I picked up on some things that I need to follow up on (like how you alphabetically sort stuff in other languages). User experience is after all, about users. What will I be doing next, and what would I like to see happen? Obviously, I need to develop my story-telling links with the people I met in Long Beach and do some practicing with the materials, and then get out there and deliver them at a suitable location. The demo is what it is right now, and that's a super-rich demo that I know everyone will want to see and ask questions about. Then, as mentioned by attendees at the FXA event, follow up on those translated and localized messages for EMEA (and APAC), that deal with different statutory or reporting requirements of the target markets. Given my background I would say that, wouldn't I? However, language is part of the UX, and international revenue is greater than US-only revenue for Oracle, so yes dear, we all need to get over the fact that enterprise apps users don't all speak, or want to speak, American-English. Most importantly perhaps, the continued development of a strong messaging community between Oracle and partners and customers where we can swap and share those FXA messaging stories and scenarios about Fusion Apps in a conversational way. The more the better, a combination of online and face-to-face meetings. I must also mention the great dinner after the event at Parker's Lighthouse, and the fun myself and Andrew Gilmour (Apps-UX) had at our end of the table talking about just about everything except Fusion Apps with Ronald Van Luttikhuizen and Ben Prusinski (who now understands the difference between Cork and Dublin people. I hope). Thanks to all the Apps-UXers who helped bring the FXA training to town, and to Debra and all the others that I am too jetlagged to mention right who were instrumental in making it happen for me. Here's to the next one. And the Walmart angle? That was me doing my Robert Scoble (ScO'bilizer?)-style guerilla smart phone research in Walmart in Long Beach, before the FXA event. It's all about stories for me. You can read more about it on the appslab blog (see the comments).

Managing Performance in the Wrld of Social and Mobile How do you provide predictable scalability and performance for an application that monitors active lifestyle of 8 million users on a daily basis? Nike’s answer is Oracle Coherence, a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Exadata. Fig 2: Oracle Coherence enabled data grid improves performance of Nike+ Digital Sports Platform Nicole Otto, Sr. Director of Consumer Digital Technology discussed the vision of the Nike+ platform, a platform which represents a shift for NIKE from a  "product"  to  a "product +" experience.  There are currently nearly 8 million users in the Nike+ system who are using digitally-enabled Nike+ devices.  Once data from the Nike+ device is transmitted to Nike+ application, users access the Nike+ website or via the Nike mobile applicatoin, seeing metrics around their daily active lifestyle and even engage in socially compelling experiences to compare, compete or collaborate their data with their friends. Nike expects the number of users to grow significantly this year which will drive an explosion of data and potential new experiences. To deal with this challenge, Nike envisioned building a shared platform that would drive a consumer-centric model for the company. Nike built this new platform using Oracle Coherence and Oracle Exadata. Using Coherence, Nike built a data grid tier as a distributed cache, thereby provide low-latency access to most recent and relevant data to consumers. Nicole discussed how Nike+ Digital Sports Platform is unique in the way that it utilizes the Coherence Grid.  Nike takes advantage of Coherence as a traditional cache using both cache-aside and cache-through patterns.  This new tier has enabled Nike to create a horizontally scalable distributed event-driven processing architecture. Current data grid volume is approximately 150,000 request per minute with about 40 million objects at any given time on the grid. Improving Customer Experience Across Multiple Channels Customer experience is on top of every CIO's mind. Customer Experience needs to be consistent and secure across multiple devices consumers may use.  This is the challenge Matt Lampe, CIO of Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP) was faced with. Despite being the largest utilities company in the country, LADWP had been relying on a 38 year old customer information system for serving its customers. Their prior system  had been unable to keep up with growing customer demands. Last year, LADWP embarked on a journey to improve customer experience for 1.6million LA DWP customers using Oracle WebCenter platform. Figure 3: Multi channel & Multi lingual LADWP.com built using Oracle WebCenter & Oracle Identity Management platform Matt shed light on his efforts to drive customer self-service across 3 dimensions – new website, new IVR platform and new bill payment service. LADWP has built a new portal to increase customer self-service while reducing the transactions via IVR. LADWP's website is powered Oracle WebCenter Portal and is accessible by desktop and mobile devices. By leveraging Oracle WebCenter, LADWP eliminated the need to build, format, and maintain individual mobile applications or websites for different devices. Their entire content is managed using Oracle WebCenter Content and secured using Oracle Identity Management. This new portal automated their paper based processes to web based workflows for customers. This includes automation of Self Service implemented through My Account -  like Bill Pay, Payment History, Bill History and Usage Analysis. LADWP's solution went live in April 2012. Matt indicated that LADWP's Self-Service Portal has greatly improved customer satisfaction.  In a JD Power Associates website satisfaction survey, results indicate rankings have climbed by 25+ points, marking a remarkable increase in user experience. Bolstering Performance and Simplifying Manageability of Business Applications Ingvar Petursson, Senior Vice Preisdent of IT at Nintendo America joined Hasan on-stage to discuss their choice of Exalogic. Nintendo had significant new requirements coming their way for business systems, both internal and external, in the years to come, especially with new products like the WiiU on the horizon this holiday season. Nintendo needed a platform that could give them performance, availability and ease of management as they deploy business systems. Ingvar selected Engineered Systems for two reasons: 1. High performance  2. Ease of management Figure 4: Nintendo relies on Oracle Exalogic to run ATG eCommerce, Oracle e-Business Suite and several business applications Nintendo made a decision to run their business applications (ATG eCommerce, E-Business Suite) and several Fusion Middleware components on the Exalogic platform. What impressed Ingvar was the "stress” testing results during evaluation. Oracle Exalogic could handle their 3-year load estimates for many functions, which was better than Nintendo expected without any hardware expansion. Faster Processing of Big Data Middleware plays an increasingly important role in Big Data. Last year, we announced at OpenWorld the introduction of Oracle Data Integrator for Hadoop and Oracle Loader for Hadoop which helps in the ability to move, transform, load data to and from Big Data Appliance to Exadata.  This year, we’ve added new capabilities to find, filter, and focus data using Oracle Event Processing. This product can natively integrate with Big Data Appliance or runs standalone. Hasan briefly discussed how NTT Docomo, largest mobile operator in Japan, leverages Oracle Event Processing & Oracle Coherence to process mobile data (from 13 million smartphone users) at a speed of 700K events per second before feeding it Hadoop for distributed processing of big data. • Practiaal rules for Django MiddleWare ordering?

    - by o_O Tync
The official documentation is a bit messy: 'before' & 'after' are used for ordering MiddleWare in a tuple, but in some places 'before'&'after' refers to request-response phases. Also, 'should be first/last' are mixed and it's not clear which one to use as 'first'. I do understand the difference.. however it seems to complicated for a newbie in Django. Can you suggest some correct ordering for builtin MiddleWare classes (assuming we enable all of them) and — most importantly — explain WHY one goes before/after other ones? here's the list, with the info from docs I managed to find: UpdateCacheMiddleware Before those that modify 'Vary:' SessionMiddleware, GZipMiddleware, LocaleMiddleware GZipMiddleware Before any MW that may change or use the response body After UpdateCacheMiddleware: Modifies 'Vary:' ConditionalGetMiddleware Before CommonMiddleware: uses its 'Etag:' header when USE_ETAGS=True SessionMiddleware After UpdateCacheMiddleware: Modifies 'Vary:' Before TransactionMiddleware: we don't need transactions here LocaleMiddleware, One of the topmost, after SessionMiddleware, CacheMiddleware After UpdateCacheMiddleware: Modifies 'Vary:' After SessionMiddleware: uses session data CommonMiddleware Before any MW that may change the response (it calculates ETags) After GZipMiddleware so it won't calculate an E-Tag on gzipped contents Close to the top: it redirects when APPEND_SLASH or PREPEND_WWW CsrfViewMiddleware AuthenticationMiddleware After SessionMiddleware: uses session storage MessageMiddleware After SessionMiddleware: can use Session-based storage XViewMiddleware TransactionMiddleware After MWs that use DB: SessionMiddleware (configurable to use DB) All *CacheMiddleWare is not affected (as an exception: uses own DB cursor) FetchFromCacheMiddleware After those those that modify 'Vary:' if uses them to pick a value for cache hash-key After AuthenticationMiddleware so it's possible to use CACHE_MIDDLEWARE_ANONYMOUS_ONLY FlatpageFallbackMiddleware Bottom: last resort Uses DB, however, is not a problem for TransactionMiddleware (yes?) RedirectFallbackMiddleware Bottom: last resort Uses DB, however, is not a problem for TransactionMiddleware (yes?) (I will add suggestions to this list to collect all of them in one place)

  • Building Great-Looking, Usable Apps: A two-day workshop applying Oracle’s best UX practices in ADF

    - by mvaughan
By Misha Vaughan, Oracle Applications User ExperienceI have been with Oracle for more than 12 years. It is a company that has granted me extraordinary creative freedom to help deliver compelling experiences for customers.I am beyond proud to talk about one of the experiences we just took for a test drive. Recently, we delivered a first-of-its-kind, three-team collaboration, train-the-trainer event in Reading, U.K., on building great-looking, usable apps based on Oracle Fusion Applications -- using the ADF tool kit. A new kind of workshopKevin Li, Platform Product Director, asked the Oracle Applications User Experience VP, Jeremy Ashley, if the team had anything to help partners and customers build applications that looked like Fusion. He was receiving this request from European partners and customers. Some quick conversations ensued, and the idea for the workshop was born: We would conduct an experiment.  We would work with feedback from the key Platform Technology Solutions (PTS) trainers under Andre Pavanello, Director, Platform Technology Solutions, in Europe, Middle East, and Africa. We would partner with the ADF team lead by Grant Ronald, Director of Product Management, title> and leverage the Applications UX expertise in Ashley’s team. The goal: Create a pilot workshop that in two days would explain to an ADF developer how to leverage the next-generation user experience best-practices developed for Fusion Apps. Why? Customers who need integrations with Oracle Fusion Applications, who are looking for custom applications that need to co-exist with Fusion, or who quite simply want a next-generation design for a custom app, need their solutions to reflect the next-generation research and design.Building an event for an ADF developerThe biggest hurdle was figuring out where to start.  How far into user experience country do you take an ADF developer? How far into ADF do you need to go if you are a UX professional? After some time in the UX kitchen, the workshop recipe looked like this: Mix equal parts: Fusion user experience design principles and functional design patterns The art and science behind UX How to wireframe designs that you can build in Fusion How to translate those designs into an ADF application Ultan O’Broin, Director of Global User Experience, explaining the trouble ticket wireframe design exerciseLynn Munsinger, Senior Group Product Manager, explaining the follow-on trouble ticket ADF coding exercise For spice, add:•    Debra Lilley, Fujitsu and ACE director, showcasing some of the latest ADF design work in the new face of Fusion Applications •    Partner show-and-tell of example apps they have built with FMW and ADF that are dynamic, beautiful, and interactive.Debra Lilley, Oracle ACE Director and Fujitsu Fusion Champion on the new face of Fusion built with ADF and Fusion extensibility with composers as a window into “the possible”?The taste testThis first go-round of the workshop was aimed squarely at ADF developers and partners.  We were privileged to have participation and feedback from:•    Sten Vesterli, Scott/Tiger S. A., Denmark•    John Sim, Fishbowl Solutions, UK•    Josef Huber, Primus Delphi Group, Munich•    Thaddaus Weindl, Primus Delphi, Group , Munich•    Praveen Pillalamarri, EiS Technologies, Bangalore•    Balaji Kamepalli, EiS Technologies, Bangalore•    Plinio Arbizu, Services & Processes Solutions S. A., Mexico•    Yannick Ongena, infoMENTUM, UK•    Jakub Ciszek, infoMENTUM, UK•    Mauro Flores, infoMENTUM, UK•    Matteo Formica, infoMENTUM, UKRichard Bingham, Oracle, Mauro Flores and Matteo Formica, infoMENTUMWhy is this so exciting?  Oracle has invested heavily in the research and development of the Oracle Fusion Applications user experience. This investment has been and continues to be applied across the product lines. Now, we finally get to teach customers and partners how to take advantage of this investment for custom solutions. This event was a pilot to test-drive the content, as well as a train-the-trainer event that our EMEA colleagues will be using with partners who want to build with Fusion Apps design patterns. What did attendees think?"I liked most the science stuff, like eye-tracking, design patterns and best-practice (color, contrast),” Josef Huber said. “It was a very good introduction to UI design, and most developers and project managers are very bad in that.  So this course would be good for all developers and even project managers." Team Anonymous: John Sim, Fishbowl Solutions, Flavius Sana, Oracle, Josef Huber, infoMENTUM, Mireille Duroussaud, Oracle. Winners of the wireframing design exercise.  Sten Vesterli, of Scott/Tiger, said he attended to learn techniques he could use in his own projects. He wants to ensure that his applications better meet the needs of his users, and he said sessions during the workshop on user interface design and wireframing were most useful to him.  “Go to this event to learn the art and science of good user interfaces from people who really know how to do it,” he said.Sten Vesterli, Scott/Tiger, Angelo Santagata, Oracle Plinio Arbizu said the workshop fulfilled his goals, thanks to the recommendations given in how to design user interfaces to facilitate the adoption of applications among the final users. “The workshop combined these recommendations with an exercise that improved the technical comprehension, permitting the usage of JDeveloper to set forth our solutions,” he said. He added: “The first session that I really enjoyed was the five Fusion design principles. It was incredible to discover how these simple principles were included in an inherit manner in Fusion Applications, and I had been using many of them applying only ADF components.  Another topic that I enjoyed a lot was the eight recommendations about the visual design of UIs. The issues that were raised in that lesson are unknown to the developers and of great value to achieve an attractive presentation layer to the end users.  Participate in this workshop, and include these usability features in your projects and in this manner not only to facilitate and improve the user productivity, but also to distinguish you as a professional who takes advantage fully of the functionalities offered by Oracle technology. Praveen Pillalamarri came to the workshop to learn about the difficulties faced in UI and UX development, and how this can be resolved with the help of ADF.  He also appreciated the opportunity to talk with other individuals who came to the workshop. Pillalmarri said, “The way we looked at things in terms of work and projects were sharpened.  UI and UX design knowledge shared by you was quite interesting, especially the minute things which we ignored in the UI or UX design.” Plinio Arbizu, Services & Processes Solutions S. A., Richard Bingham, Oracle, Balaji Kamepalli, & Praveen Pillalamarri, EiS TechnologiesReady to spread the wordIn EMEA, Oracle customers and partners have access to three world-class trainers via Platform Technology Solutions: Mireille Duroussaud, Flavius Sana, and Angelo Santagata. Contact Andre Pavanello if you like to experience this workshop firsthand, or you have customers or partners who would benefit from the training. We are looking to bring the event to the U.S. in spring 2013. If you have interest in this kind of a workshop, leave a comment below. For those who want to follow the action, join the ADF Enterprise Methodology Group run by Oracle’s Chris Muir. Ask questions and continue with the conversation in this forum, or check blogs.oracle.com/usableapps for topics emerging from the workshop.
