  • Getting back from security & location to my application

    - by sandman42
Hi, I have an application that allows the user to enable GPS. In order to do it, first in the main activity I do: lm = (LocationManager) getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE); if (!lm.isProviderEnabled(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER)){ showGpsOptions(); } showGpsOptions() is: private void showGpsOptions() { Intent gpsOptionsIntent = new Intent(android.provider.Settings.ACTION_LOCATION_SOURCE_SETTINGS); startActivityForResult(gpsOptionsIntent, BACK_FROM_GPS_ACT); } and finally I override main activity onActivityResult in this way: protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) { if (requestCode == BACK_FROM_GPS_ACT){ ; } super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data); } Problem: the page show up and works, but when I press back I get back to home screen. Question: how can I get back to my application? Thanks a lot

  • Android/ iOS how to determine small changes in distance using sensors?

    - by Tom
I have been doing a bit of research, but I cannot seem to find a way to determine small distances (centimeters and meters) using the sensors in Android or iOS devices. Bluetooth appears too inaccurate and require more than one device, GPS only works over larger variations in distance, and small variations in rotation seem to make using the accelerometer nearly impossible. Is there a method that I am unaware of that would allow me to do such a thing? I am familiar with Calculus, so using Integrals to determine distance based on changes in time and velocity/ acceleration is not a problem for me, I just do not know how to determine those things. Thank you.

  • How does getAltitude() of Android GPS Location Works

    - by Sebi
HI I tried to implement a simple GPS tracker. Therefore is used lm = (LocationManager) getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE); lm.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 1000, 0, this); Then i used the public void onLocationChanged(Location location) { method to read the altitude of my current location. But i dont really know what Location.getAltitude() returns. The document says it returns the altitude. But is this in meters? or feets? if i put the phone on the desk next to me, this value changes between 500 and -500?? How does this really work???

  • Forcing CLLocationManager updates - does it help or hurt?

    - by Steve N
I've been trying to find any way to optimize the performance of my location-based iPhone application and have seen some people mention that you can force location updates by starting and stopping your CLLocationManager. I need the best accuracy I can get, and the user in my case would probably like to see updates every few seconds (say, 10 seconds) as they walk around. I've set the filters accordingly, but I notice that sometimes I don't get any updates on the device for quite some time. I'm testing the following approach, which forces an update when a fixed time interval passes (I'm using 20 seconds). My gut tells me this really won't help me provide more accurate updates to the user, and that just leaving CLLocationManager running all the time is probably the best approach. - (void)forceLocationUpdate { [[LocationManager locationManager] stopUpdates]; [[LocationManager locationManager] startUpdates]; [self performSelector:@selector(forceLocationUpdate) withObject:nil afterDelay:20.0]; } My question is- does forcing updates from CLLocationManager actually improve core location performance? Does it hurt performance? If I'm outside in an open field with good GPS reception, will this help then? Does anyone have experience trying this? Thanks in advance, Steve

  • How to transform coordinate from WGS84 to a coordinate in a projection in PROJ.4?

    - by Sanoj
I have a GPS-coordinate in WGS84 that I would like to transform to a map-projection coordinate in SWEREF99 TM using PROJ.4 in Java or proj4js in JavaScript. Its hard to find documentation for PROJ.4 and how to us it. If you have a good link, please post it as a comment. The PROJ.4 parameters for SWEREF99 TM is +proj=utm +zone=33 +ellps=GRS80 +towgs84=0,0,0,0,0,0,0 +units=m +no_defs I have tried to use a PROJ.4 Java library and tried this code and values: String[] proj4_w = new String[] { "+proj=utm", "+zone=33", "+ellps=GRS80", "+towgs84=0,0,0,0,0,0,0", "+units=m", "+no_defs" }; Projection proj = ProjectionFactory.fromPROJ4Specification(proj4_w); Point2D.Double testLatLng = new Point2D.Double(55.0000, 12.7500); Point2D.Double testProjec = proj.transform(testLatLng, new Point2D.Double()); This give me the point Point2D.Double[5197915.86288144, 1822635.9083898761] but I should be N: 6097106.672, E: 356083.438 What am I doing wrong? and what method and parameters should I use instead? The correct values is taken from Lantmäteriet. I am not sure if proj.transform(testLatLng, new Point2D.Double()); is the right method to use.

  • Are there any configurable parameters to the gpsd?

    - by danatel
I use the gpsd daemon with my application. Sometimes, the gpsd ceases to work with no apparent reason (clean sky). Even the gpsmon monitor shows no fix. Are there any parameters which must be set? Or is it a hardware problem? I am surprissed that many satellites are visible but the "Stat" bitmap does not contain the bit 7 - ephemeris data available. Should i somewhat pre-configure my position to allow for correct ephemeris data? • How toget a list of "fastest miles" from a set of GPS Points

    - by santiagobasulto
I'm trying to solve a weird problem. Maybe you guys know of some algorithm that takes care of this. I have data for a cargo freight truck and want to extract some data. Suppose I've got a list of sorted points that I get from the GPS. That's the route for that truck: [ { "lng": "-111.5373066", "lat": "40.7231711", "time": "1970-01-01T00:00:04Z", "elev": "1942.1789265256325" }, { "lng": "-111.5372056", "lat": "40.7228762", "time": "1970-01-01T00:00:07Z", "elev": "1942.109892409177" } ] Now, what I want to get is a list of the "fastest miles". I'll do an example: Given the points: A, B, C, D, E, F the distance from point A to point B is 1 mile, and the cargo took 10:32 minutes. From point B to point D i've got other mile, and the cargo took 10 minutes, etc. So, i need a list sorted by time. Similar to: B -> D: 10 A -> B: 10:32 D -> F: 11:02 Do you know any efficient algorithm that let me calculate that? Thank you all. PS: I'm using Python. EDIT: I've got the distance. I know how to calculate it and there are plenty of posts to do that. What I need is an algorithm to tokenize by mile and get speed from that. Having a distance function is not helpful enough: results = {} for point in points: aux_points = points.takeWhile(point>n) #This doesn't exist, just trying to be simple for aux_point in aux_points: d = distance(point, aux_point) if d == 1_MILE: time_elapsed = time(point, aux_point) results[time_elapsed] = (point, aux_point) I'm still doing some pretty inefficient calculations.

  • fetching gps location in blackberry

  • Why does DeviceIoControl throw error 21 (Device Not Ready) from C# when the equivalent in C works fine?

    - by Ragesh
I'm trying to send an IOCTL_SERVICE_REFRESH command to the GPS Intermediate Driver service using C# like this: handle = CreateFile("GPD0:", GENERIC_READ, FILE_SHARE_READ | FILE_SHARE_WRITE, IntPtr.Zero, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL, IntPtr.Zero); if (handle.ToInt32() == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { rc = Marshal.GetLastWin32Error(); return rc; } int numBytesReturned = 0; rc = DeviceIoControl( handle, IOCTL_SERVICE_REFRESH, null, 0, null, 0, ref numBytesReturned, IntPtr.Zero); int error = Marshal.GetLastWin32Error(); GetLastWin32Error always gives me error 21 (device not ready). However, the equivalent call when made from C++ works fine: HANDLE hGPS = CreateFile(L"GPD0:", GENERIC_READ, FILE_SHARE_READ | FILE_SHARE_WRITE, 0, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL, 0); if (hGPS != INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { BOOL ret = DeviceIoControl(hGPS,IOCTL_SERVICE_REFRESH,0,0,0,0,0,0); DWORD err = GetLastError(); } I suspected a problem with the PInvoke signatures, but I can't seem to find anything wrong here: [DllImport("coredll.dll", EntryPoint = "DeviceIoControl", SetLastError = true)] public static extern int DeviceIoControl( IntPtr hDevice, uint dwIoControlCode, byte[] lpInBuffer, int nInBufferSize, byte[] lpOutBuffer, int nOutBufferSize, ref int lpBytesReturned, IntPtr lpOverlapped); [DllImport("coredll.dll", SetLastError = true)] public static extern IntPtr CreateFile( String lpFileName, uint dwDesiredAccess, uint dwShareMode, IntPtr attr, uint dwCreationDisposition, uint dwFlagsAndAttributes, IntPtr hTemplateFile); What am I missing here?

  • Is there a Math.atan2 substitute for j2ME? Blackberry development

    - by Kai
I have a wide variety of locations stored in my persistent object that contain latitudes and longitudes in double(43.7389, 7.42577) format. I need to be able to grab the user's latitude and longitude and select all items within, say 1 mile. Walking distance. I have done this in PHP so I snagged my PHP code and transferred it to Java, where everything plugged in fine until I figured out J2ME doesn't support atan2(double, double). So, after some searching, I find a small snippet of code that is supposed to be a substitute for atan2. Here is the code: public double atan2(double y, double x) { double coeff_1 = Math.PI / 4d; double coeff_2 = 3d * coeff_1; double abs_y = Math.abs(y)+ 1e-10f; double r, angle; if (x >= 0d) { r = (x - abs_y) / (x + abs_y); angle = coeff_1; } else { r = (x + abs_y) / (abs_y - x); angle = coeff_2; } angle += (0.1963f * r * r - 0.9817f) * r; return y < 0.0f ? -angle : angle; } I am getting odd results from this. My min and max latitude and longitudes are coming back as incredibly low numbers that can't possibly be right. Like 0.003785746 when I am expecting something closer to the original lat and long values (43.7389, 7.42577). Since I am no master of advanced math, I don't really know what to look for here. Perhaps someone else may have an answer. Here is my complete code: package store_finder; import java.util.Vector; import javax.microedition.location.Criteria; import javax.microedition.location.Location; import javax.microedition.location.LocationException; • iPhone locationManager:didFailWithError problem when GPS disabled

    - by BenG
    So, I've followed other related threads, but for some reason I'm still having this error and I'm about ready to tear my hair out. I have implemented locationManager:didFailWithError to check and see if a user selects 'Don't Allow' to use the current location. -(void)locationManager:(CLLocationManager *)manager didFailWithError:(NSError *)error { NSLog(@"IN ERROR"); if ([error code] == kCLErrorDenied){ [manager stopUpdatingLocation]; } } However, the following error always appears when the user selects 'Don't Allow'...it's strange, especially the order that the text 'IN ERROR' appears. ERROR,Time,293420691.000,Function,"void CLClientHandleDaemonDataRegistration(__CLClient*, const CLDaemonCommToClientRegistration*, const __CFDictionary*)",server did not accept client registration 1 2010-04-19 21:44:51.000 testApp[1414:207] IN ERROR So, it's outputting this error even before it has a chance to get into the didFailWithError function. Does anyone have any ideas of what might be happening? The rest of the locationManager code is as follows: self.locationManager = [[[CLLocationManager alloc] init] autorelease]; locationManager.delegate = self; locationManager.desiredAccuracy = kCLLocationAccuracyKilometer; locationManager.distanceFilter = 2; [locationManager startUpdatingLocation];

  • Location.getTime() returning a future time.

    - by fiXedd
The following code: // get the last known location Criteria c = new Criteria(); c.setAccuracy(Criteria.ACCURACY_FINE); Location lastKnown = mLocationManager.getLastKnownLocation(mLocationManager.getBestProvider(c, true)); // compare times long currentTime = System.currentTimeMillis(); long gpsTime = lastKnown.getTime(); long age = (currentTime - gpsTime) / 1000; Gives me: currentTime = 1270062152738 gpsTime = 1270085378000 age = -23225 If you'll notice, it's returning the last location fix's time as a time in the future. Why is this happening? EDIT: From Location.getTime() : Returns the UTC time of this fix, in milliseconds since January 1, 1970. From System.currentTimeMillis() : Returns the current system time in milliseconds since January 1, 1970 00:00:00 UTC. This method shouldn't be used for measuring timeouts or other elapsed time measurements, as changing the system time can affect the results.

  • UIImagePickerController and extracting EXIF data from existing photos

    - by tomtaylor
It's well known that UIImagePickerController doesn't return the metadata of the photo after selection. However, a couple of apps in the app store (Mobile Fotos, PixelPipe) seem to be able to read the original files and the EXIF data stored within them, enabling the app to extract the geodata from the selected photo. They seem to do this by reading the original file from the /private/var/mobile/Media/DCIM/100APPLE/ folder and running it through an EXIF library. However, I can't work out a way of matching a photo returned from the UIImagePickerController to a file on disk. I've explored file sizes, but the original file is a JPEG, whilst the returned image is a raw UIImage, making it impossible to know the file size of the image that was selected. I'm considering making a table of hashes and matching against the first x pixels of each image. This seems a bit over the top though, and probably quite slow. Any suggestions?

  • Which Devices Support Javascript Geolocation via navigator.geolocation ?

    - by Maciek
The iPhone supports geolocation in mobile Safari via the following call: navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition( function(pos){ var lat = pos.coords.latitude; var long = pos.coords.longitude; }, function(){ /* Handler if location could not be found */ } ); I'd like to build a good list of devices that have one of the following: support this feature out of the box, or support this feature with an upgrade, or support geolocation with equivalent fidelity of data with some other snippet of Javascript. I'm only familiar with my own device, so this is my list so far: Out of the box: iPhone 3GS Supported, but only with an update iPhone 3G iPhone 2G (?) PC or Mac computer with Firefox 3.5 Supported with some other snippet ? What is the level of support in Blackberry, Android phones, etc?

  • How to convert TM-2 degree coordinate to lat lon on Android?

    - by Victor Lin
I am writing a program that convert TM-2 degree to lat/lon on Android, but I can't find formula for that. I do find some example on internet, but most of them are convert with open source library, that I can't use on Android platform. I also find a java class that do convert from UTM to lat lon, but it seems no suitable for TM 2 degreen coordinate system. So my question is: how do I convert TM 2 degree coordinate to lat/lon? Where can I find formula?

  • GpsSatellite.getSnr() - What is the value range?

    - by rflexor
I'm building a Sat-View that draws a small bar-chart for available satellites and their signal strength (or better: their signal-to-noise-ratio / SNR). The javadoc doesn't say what value-range to expect for the SNR. The NMEA-Standard says 0-99, but even in best conditions my G1 doesn't reach that value. I also read that different manufacturers use different value-ranges for the SNR, so is that true for android-devices, too? Or is there a unified value range on that plattform and if so, what is it? The lack of information in the docs leads me to suspect I just get the "raw" SNR from the driver, in which case I'd like to know: What do you think is the best approach to visualize that unknown value-range in a bar-chart?

  • Android Location Error

    - by Christopher
    I've singled out my problem to a few lines of code lm = (LocationManager)getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE); Location location = lm.getLastKnownLocation(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER); lm.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 1000L, 5.0f, this); lat = location.getLatitude(); lng = location.getLongitude(); //lat = new Double(40.431682); //lng = new Double(-74.2021819); pLocation = new GeoPoint((int)(lat * 1000000), (int)(lng * 1000000)); My onLocationChanged if you were wondering public void onLocationChanged(Location location) { if (location != null) { lat = location.getLatitude(); lng = location.getLongitude(); pLocation = new GeoPoint((int)(lat * 1000000), (int)(lng * 1000000)); } } My application crashes if I try to get the LastKnownLocation But it works fine if I feed it a Location manually I have no idea currently whats wrong

  • Google's Geocoder returns wrong country

    - by 6bytes
Hi I'm using Google's Geocoder to find lat lng coordinates for a given address. var geocoder = new google.maps.Geocoder(); geocoder.geocode( { 'address': address, 'region': 'uk' }, function(results, status) { if(status == google.maps.GeocoderStatus.OK) { lat: results[0].geometry.location.lat(), lng: results[0].geometry.location.lng() }); address variable is taken from an input field. I want to search locations only in UK. I thought that specifying 'region': 'uk' should be enough but it's not. When I type in "Boston" it founds Boston in US and I wanted the one in UK. How to restrict Geocoder to return locations only from one country or maybe from a certain lat lng range? Thanks

  • How do you determine with CLLocationManager when a user denies access to location services?

    - by Brennan
With CLLocationManager I can use the following code to determine if I can access location services on the device. This is the master setting for all apps and can be turned on and off. if (self.locationManager.locationServicesEnabled) { [self.locationManager startUpdatingLocation]; } But a user can deny access to an individual app and in order to not execute the code to use the location manager I need to know if the user approved access to location services for this specific app. I saw that at one point there was a property called locationServicesApproved which appears it would indicate if the user approved access to location services in this app. But it was removed in 2008. Source: http://trailsinthesand.com/apple-removes-notifications-from-iphone-sdk-beta-4/ It appears that there is no way to determine if the user approved access to location services but that seems to be a big hole in the SDK. Is this feature in the SDK elsewhere? What can I do to determine if the user has approved access to location services for the current app?

  • CLLocation is not nil but trying to print it out throws EXC_BAD_ACCESS

    - by nefsu
Sorry, this may be a noob question but I'm working with CoreLocation and this has be stumped. I'm looking up the currentLocation using a singleton that was recommended on this site and when I get the currentLocation object, it returns true to a not nil check. However, when I try to print out its description, it throws EXC_BAD_ACCESS. //WORKS Current location 8.6602e-290 NSLog(@"Current location %g",currLoc); //DOESN'T WORK NSLog(@"Current location %@",[currLoc description]); //DOESN'T WORK - Is this causing the description to fail as well? NSLog(@"Current location %g",currLoc.coordinate.latitude); Why am I able to see something on the first one but not the others? BTW, this is being run on a 3.1.2 simulator Thanks.

  • Vehicle 2 Vehicle Communication Questions

    - by pinnacler
I have a rare opportunity to meet the man in charge of implementing vehicle 2 vehicle communication for the US Department of Transportation with 2 others in a few hours. Do YOU have any questions for him? I know this is a little outside the normal, but this is a 'reverse' thread and I felt he has some great knowledge on the subject that I want to share with this community. I'll post his answers later today to his questions. Ask about V2V implementation, privacy issues, use cases, or if you've thought of a great way to use V2V and want me to share it with him, he can at least think about it. He is in charge of panel that creates the standard. Or anything else...

  • Is there an API or SDK for TomTom satellite navigation devices that would let me access them from Wi

    - by jammycakes
I was given a TomTom satellite navigation device (XL 30) for Christmas and I've been wondering recently if it is possible to use it as a location sensor for my own programs on my (Windows 7) laptop. Does anyone know if there is a published API which would allow me to do this? More specifically, how can I query it for my current location (latitude, longitude, and, if possible, altitude?)
