  • Setting up HTTPS across multiple servers

    I'm looking to offer our online services over https and I'm having a couple of problems understanding how to accomplish this. To access our services you must pass through our ISA firewall to a Win2000 server running IIS6. About half our services are located here and the other half take you to a Win2003 server also running IIS6. So, in order to achieve this must each server have the proper certificate installed? ISA, IIS6_1 and IIS6_2? Is there a separate configuration that must be made to our ISA firewall? The other problem is with the CA and knowing how many certificates I need. It's important to note that the domain name for our services on IIS6_1 is www.domainname.com but the domain name on IIS6_2 is services.domainname.com. I believe that this will require me to purchase more than one certificate. It looks as though we will be going with Thawte's SSL123 as it's a good name and it's fast to get. Will I need to purchase 2 certificates (one for www that will be installed on our ISA firewall as well as IIS6_1, and one for services.domainname.com on IIS6_2)? Or will I need to purchase 3, the extra one being used on our firewall server? Another side question is about SAN's (subject alternative names). Is this basically adding sub-domains to your cert? So I could purchase one cert with 1 SAN for my www and services.? Thanks a lot for your help! Please let me know if I can provide any further information.

    I have this patch code which i downloaded from a web article (Calling Matlab from Java). http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~whitehouse/matlab/JavaMatlab.html But I donot know how to apply it in my windowsXp running computer. What I'm trying to do is call Matlab script file from java. I have found the necessary source codes and every thing but this mater is holding be back. Any help is highly appreciated. Thank you.   • How do I test database-related code with NUnit?

    I want to write unit tests with NUnit that hit the database. I'd like to have the database in a consistent state for each test. That's great but... Does this functionality exists somewhere in NUnit natively? Has this technique been improved upon in the last 4 years? Is this still the best way to test database-related code? Edit: it's not that I want to test my DAL specifically, it's more that I want to test pieces of my code that interact with the database. For these tests to be "no-touch" and repeatable, it'd be awesome if I could reset the database after each one. Further, I want to ease this into an existing project that has no testing place at the moment. For that reason, I can't practically script up a database and data from scratch for each test.

    For a few weeks, the fans of my Lenovo B590 laptop, running on Xubuntu 14, turn to high speed a few minutes after it is turned on. The fans won't speed down until I turn the computer off.     Can someone enlighthen me with regards to Linq please? I have a dataset that is populated via a SQL Stored Procedure, the format of which is below: Country | Brand | Variant | 2004 | 2005 | 2006 | 2007 | 2008 The number of rows varies between 50 and several thousand. What I'm trying to do is use Linq to interrogate the dataset (there will be several Linq queries based on user options), but a simple example would be to SUM the year columns based on Brand.   • Best of "The Moth" 2010

    It is the time again (like in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009) to look back at my blog for the past year and identify areas of interest that seem to be more prominent than others. After doing so, representative posts follow in my top 5 list (in random order). 1. This was the year where I had to move for the first time since 2004 my blog engine (blogger.com –> dasBlog), host provider (zen –> godaddy), web server technology and OS (apache on Linux –> IIS on Windows Server). My goal was not to break any permalinks or the look and feel of this website. A series of posts covered how I achieved that goal, culminating in a tool for others to use if they wanted to do the same: Tool to convert blogger.com content to dasBlog. Going forward I aim to be sharing more small code utilities like that one… 2. At work I am known for being fairly responsive on email, and more importantly never dropping email balls on the floor. This is due to my email processing system, which I shared here: Processing Email in Outlook. I will be sharing more tips with regards to making the best of the Office products. 3. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the year people will remember as the one where Microsoft finally fights back in the mobile space. Even though the new platform means my Windows Mobile book sales will dwindle :-), I am ecstatic about Windows Phone 7 both as a consumer and as a developer. On the release day, to get you started I shared the top 10 Windows Phone 7 developer resources. I will be sharing my tips from my experience in writing code for and consuming this new platform… 4. For my HPC developer friends using Visual Studio, I shared Slides and code for MPI Cluster Debugger and also gave you all the links you need for getting started with Dryad and DryadLINQ from MSR. Expect more from me on cluster development in the coming year… 5. Still in the HPC space, but actually also in the game and even mainstream development, the big disruption and opportunity comes in the form of GPGPU and, on the Microsoft platform, (currently) DirectCompute.     Since IE8 is such a backward browser, I was wondering if there are any web-sites on the Internet that just don't support IE altogether (and block it via conditional comments, for instance)? I remember stumbling upon web-sites that block Firefox in the past (like ~2004). The justification of blocking IE is (obviously): You don't want to deal with IE bugs, and you don't want to have to maintain IE-specific hack and workarounds.

    Will we ever see anything of WinFS? I was skeptical back in 2004 when it was announced but i'm still very curious and in wait to hear more about plans for this unique storage system.
