• Preferred way for dealing with customer-defined data in enterprise application

  Let's say that we have a small enterprise web (intranet) application for managing data for car dealers. It has screens for managing customers, inventory, orders, warranties and workshops. This application is installed at 10 customer sites for different car dealers. First version of this application was created without any way to provide for customer-specific data. For example, if dealer A wanted to be able to attach a photo to a customer, dealer B wanted to add e-mail contact to each workshop, and dealer C wanted to attach multiple PDF reports to a warranty, each and every feature like this was added to the application, so all of the customers received everything on new update. However, this will inevitably lead to conflicts as the number of customers grow as their usage patterns are unique, and if, for instance, a specific dealer requested to have an ability to attach (for some reason) a color of inventory item (and be able to search by this color) as a required item, others really wouldn't need this feature, and definitely will not want it to be a required item. Or, one dealer would like to manage e-mail contacts for their employees on a separate screen of the application. I imagine that a solution for this is to use a kind of plugin system, where we would have a core of the application that provides for standard features like customers, inventory, etc, and all of the customer's installed plugins. There would be different kinds of plugins - standalone screens like e-mail contacts for employees, with their own logic, and customer plugin which would extend or decorate inventory items (like photo or color). Inventory (customer,order,...) plugins would require to have installation procedure, hooks for plugging into the item editor, item displayer, item filtering for searching, backup hook and such. Is this the right way to solve this problem?

• Ubuntu One: devices is missed, but still synching

  I'm use Ubuntu One on MacOS and Ubuntu. In the list of devices on login.ubuntu.com/+applications or one.ubuntu.com/account I see only Web login. In the Ubuntu One's GUI app on Mac and Ubuntu I see that: "Local device" (without name of, or everything) as current device and Web login in the list of other devices. But my both computers is still synching, even after i change password! And I can't delete devices from app, because it generate error "AttributeError "'QGroupBox' object has no attribute 'startswith'"". You can see screenshot: http://i40.tinypic.com/21c8tx3.png I think, I need to delete all login info on both machines for re-login to cloud, but cleaning up folders like "ubuntuone" and "sso" on Ubuntu in /home/user/.cache, .config and on MacOS in "Libraries" is not working - app being still log-in. Because of it sometimes synchronization working not properly - I need to recheck sync folders for syncing changes on it.

• Nothing seems to be syncing with Ubuntu One

  So earlier tonight I set up Ubuntu One on a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10. In my "Ubuntu One" directory, I created symbolic links to /Documents /Pictures and /Music. Right now, there is VERY little in those directories but what IS there isn't syncing at all. When I go to the Ubuntu One web interface, it tells me I'm using 0.00% of my storage space. When I try to view the files in the web interface, I am told 'Something has gone wrong' and I don't see anything. Can anyone help? Even my Tomboy notes aren't syncing! And yes, I am connected and the software says 'Synchronisation Complete' Thanks, Anthony

• How to troubleshoot Ubuntu One in Maverick beta?

  I just updated to the Maverick beta (actually it's a fresh install, and not an upgrade of 10.04). But now "Ubuntu One" doesn't show up in my me-menu thing. In addition, when I go to Ubuntu One from System-Preferences and attempt to log in from there it will sometimes look like it works, but other times it won't do anything. When I go to the command line and type u1sdtool -s it will either say something like "doing auth dance" or "auth failed" and often it has never even prompted me to log in or try to get a new password (even though I know it's correct). Anyway, this is the main hangup I have with the Maverick beta. I can't get to my ubuntu one account from the native client. Is this a widespread issue? Is there something I can do to fix this?

When I fire up System-Preferences-Ubuntu One, It tells me that I have 8.2 GB stored (13.2 %) and the my status in Unknown. I've tried Restart to no avail. I even tried Remove, followed by clearing the password ring and starting over. Still nothing. I've run out of buttons to push.

• Ubuntu One under KDE

  Currently, while Ubuntu One can be installed under KDE, Dolphin does not know about it, so it cannot set folders other than Ubuntu One to sync. There is a command line utility, "u1sdtool", which performs most if not all the functions you need. Setting the keyring password to be the same as your login won't prevent Ubuntu One asking you for it again on login. If you want to change it, install Seahorse, look for it in your menus as "Passwords and Keys", and right click over "Passwords: default", then select "Change Password". The various deleting tricks I've read about don't work for me. There is an ubuntuone-client-kde being developed, but no clue as to when it will appear in a stable repo. Any further advice will be welcomed by me and doubtless a few other KDE users.

• Ubuntu One not syncing and not providing feedback

  Firstly, I apologize for not being more specific with my problem, but Ubuntu One is just not providing me with any information. It appears to be working, it states that "syncronization in progress..." but it never actually syncronizes (by never I mean 3 days). When I first selected a folder to sync using Ubuntu One it took on the order of hours to sync over 500MB of files - it uploaded the folder hierarchy first and populated the folders over a few hours. That is not happening at all now. Please let me know if there is a way I can get more information out of Ubuntu One that I can post and hopefully resolve this issue. Thanks, Joe

• Ubuntu One lost most of my files!

  I keep in my UbuntuOne the source code of my projects as a back up. In the past it worked and I never had problem. It happened that I had to change the hard disk of my laptop and I installed a fresh Ubuntu 12.10 in the new one. First time I connected with UbuntuOne it downloaded my files, but when I went to see my projects almost all my c++ source code files were missing!!!... I tried to check if I still have them on UbuntuOne by accessing from the web but nothing... my work is lost forever. I don't know who to ask for help? Is there a way to get back my precious files? Honestly I can't trust this service any more, I'm very disappointed. (edit: thanks God I found a back up in one of my external hard disks. I won't trust Ubuntu One any more, it's buggy and quite slow. )

• Where is my Ubuntu One ribbon?

  I'm not seeing the Ubuntu One ribbon in Nautilus-Elementary. I have the nautilus-terminal extension as well, so I don't know if they don't work together. I tried running nautilus from the terminal (for a separate issue), and I think I might be onto something. It seems the Ubuntu One ribbon is not finding something (it had an exception). I got the NE-Terminal working again by deleting the gconf directory for Nautilus.

  I have never connected to Ubuntu One, I can log in through http://one.ubuntu.com and everything on that site works. • Delete button in Ubuntu One Notes

  For the whishlist... The 'delete button' in Ubuntu One Notes is exactly in the same place as the 'save' button. So I saved a long note, but as my finger clicked two times on the save button, the second click was on the 'delete' one ! Lost without return possible. <:-(( This annoying feature could easily be changed : - put the delete button in another place - before deleting : ask for confirmation - offer a way to cancel ('undelete' function)

• Large uploaded file won't display in Ubuntu One but is included in file usage

  On Ubuntu 10.04, I uploaded a single 711 MB. My total file usage in Ubuntu One went up to 877MB, which is about right, but the file doesn't show in Ubuntu One so I can't download or delete it. Either the file is there and I can't see it for some reason. Or the file is not there and the total file usage figure is wrong. Does anyone know what has happened? I have a free account but am well below my 5GB limit.

• Converting a JD Edwards Date to a System.DateTime

  I'm working on moving some data from JD Edwards to a SQL Server database using SSIS and needed to deal with the way in which JDE stores dates.  The format is CYYDDD, where: C = century, 1 for >= 2000 and 0 for < 2000 YY = the last two digits of the year DDD = the number of the day.  Jan 1 = 1, Dec. 31 = 365 (or 366 in a leap year) The .Net base class library has lots of good support for handling dates, but nothing as specific as the JD Edwards format, so I needed to write a bit of code to translate the JDE format to System.DateTime.  The function is below: public static DateTime FromJdeDate(double jdeDate) {   DateTime convertedDate = DateTime.MinValue;   if (jdeDate >= 30001 && jdeDate <= 200000)   {     short yearValue = (short)(jdeDate / 1000d + 1900d);     short dayValue = (short)((jdeDate % 1000) - 1);     convertedDate = DateTime.Parse("01/01/" + yearValue.ToString()).AddDays(dayValue);   }   else   {     throw new ArgumentException("The value provided does not represent a valid JDE date", "jdeDate");   }   return convertedDate; }  I'd love to take credit for this myself, but this is an adaptation of a TSQL UDF that I got from another consultant at the client site.

  Oracle JD Edwards Enterprise One Tools Release  9.1 has many new features that will help end users be more efficient in their daily jobs. For example, hiding grid columns is now as easy as a left-mouse click. In earlier releases, users could click on the ‘Customize Grid’ link but still had to do several more clicks to hide or show a column . The following example shows how easy this new feature is to use. First, right-mouse click on the column you want to hide; for example the ‘Long Address’ column. The column is now hidden. Second, right-mouse over on any of the columns to show the ‘Unhide’ option. After you select ‘Unhide’, the hidden column is shown. You can then select the column to show, or unhide, the column. This new feature and others are covered in the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne System Administration Rel 9.x course, which has been updated to reflect the new release. • Experiences with Ubuntu One?

  I'm currently testing several backup/sync services: Dropbox, SpiderOak and Ubuntu One. Of them, Dropbox is the winner hands down; SpiderOak is nice too, but a bit more intrusive and unpredictable (sometimes is slow in syncing some files, or doesn't sync them at all). Ubuntu One has promise, but I've used it much less than the other two. I'm thinking about buying a "20 pack" and using Ubuntu One as my only synchronization software. It's the cheapest of them all (3$/month vs 10$ in Dropbox and SpiderOak), and 20GB of space is enough for me. My intention is to sync most of my $HOME folder. All the computers I'll connect will have Ubuntu installed, so not being multiplatform doesn't really matter to me. If its performance is as good as Dropbox's, I'm sold. But I'd like to gauge some experiences here first. Is anyone using it seriously? I.e., to sync a lot of files that change often (like the aforementioned $HOME folder, program sources, or something alike). What have been your experiences? Thanks in advance.

• Ubuntu-one syncs single files, but not directories [closed]

  I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, fully updated. I have tried to sync my ~/Documents and ~/Pictures folders; U1 replicates the directory structure, but no files are uploaded. Next I tried to sync a single file inside ~/Ubuntu One and it was synced. Then I tried to put a directory inside ~/Ubuntu One and, again, the directory structure was replicated, but no files were synced. All the files have the "syncing" icon, however.   It's Friday, that means its patch release time. Why do we do this to ourselves, 'we'll release on Friday!' It might 11.59 on Friday but by golly we'll have released on Friday. I can remember a release of BIP years ago that for some reason we went for 12/31 as a release date ... were we mad? I seem to remember we made it but talk about ridiculous pressure! The latest 10g rollup is out in the wild and available from Oracle support. A bug fixing rollup but worth getting to and know that support will want you to get to it and re-test before going forward on an SR. One simple but very useful fix or enhancement:[Cause of the bug] @ ================== @ Customer reports that despite the clock being shown, end users are clicking @ on the View button repeatedly as the initial generation is taking some time.   @ If the button were to be grayed out then  this would prevent the users @ requesting the report more than  once.  Repeated requests are causing a @ system overload and as this is their Production  instance this is extremely @ important to the customer. @ . @ [The Fix] @ ========= @ Added the logic to disable the button after the user clicks on the "view" @ button and re-enable it when the report is loaded. I told a group of customers once that they have a headache and we have a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, alright, I actually said 'aspirin'. This little gem of a fix helps relieve another little headache that our aspirin was causing. The patch number for all this BIP pain killing is 13399232, enjoy!

Privileges and Roles for Managing Oracle E-Business Suite: This release includes new ready-to-use target and resource privileges to monitor, manage, and perform Change Management functionality. Cloning Named Credentials Uptake in Cloning: The Clone module transactions now let users leverage the Named Credential feature introduced in Enterprise Manager 12c, thereby passing all the benefits of Named Credentials features in Enterprise Manager to the Oracle E-Business Suite Plug-in users. Smart Clone improvements: In addition to the existing 11i support that was available on previous releases, the new Oracle E-Business Suite Plug-in widens the coverage supporting Oracle E-Business Suite releases 12.0.x and 12.1.x. The new and improved Smart Clone UI supports the adding of "pre and post" custom steps to a copy of the ready-to-use cloning deployment procedure. Now a user can pass parameters to the custom steps through the interview screen of the UI as well as pass ready-to-use parameters to the custom steps. Additional configuration enhancements are included for configuring RAC targets databases, such as the ability to customize listener names and the option to configure with Virtual IP or Scan IP. Change Management Enhancements Customization Manager Support for longer file names: Customization Manager now handles file names up to thirty characters in length. Patch Manager Queuing of Patch Manager Runs: This feature allows patch runs to queue up if Patch Manager detects a specific target is in a blackout state. Multi-node system patching: The patch run interview has been enhanced to allow Enterprise Manager Administrator to choose which nodes adpatch will run on. New AD Administration Options: The patch run interview has been extended to include AD Administration Options "Relink Application Programs", "Generate Product Jars Files", "Generate Report Files", and "Generate Form Files". • Laptop not syncing with Ubuntu One

  I have a desktop running Maverick, and a laptop running Lucid. Both are supposed to be linked to my Ubuntu One account. The desktop syncs fine, but when I started the laptop for the first time in a couple of months, it wouldn't sync any more. The Ubuntu One Preferences window either reports "Synchronisation complete" even though no recent files have been downloaded nor have any test files created in the relevant synced folder been uploaded, or it says "Synchronisation in progress", which does not appear to be happening as it stays like this for ages and the lights on my router suggest no traffic is going through. Have repeatedly tried disconnecting and reconnecting, and removing the device from the account then reattaching it, all to no avail.
