  • some windows 8 metro (modern UI) apps don't open, but live tiles DO work

    - by DiegoDD
Some of my default windows 8 metro (modern UI) apps don't work properly, the apps are the Weather and the News apps. when I open them, I only get the loading screen, that is, the big colorful screen with the logo in the center, and the "loading" spinning dots. They just keep like that forever and never actually open. There are no error messages or anything. The strange this is that the live tiles for those apps DO work and show current information. current weather for my location (saved before they started failing) and current news. Both apps did work well in the past, and every other default windows 8 app I've tried work well (both live tiles and the app itself). Every other non-default apps that I've downloaded still work correctly, so the problem so far is only with those two apps. (weather and news). I really don't know since when exactly they started to fail because I really don't use them (or any metro app) that often, so I can't recall if I did something like installing some other app, either metro or regular, or messed with some drivers, etc. they simply don't open now, but they DID work before. any ideas?

  • Problems with Google Maps API v3 + jQuery UI Tabs

    - by Bears will eat you
There are a number of problems, which seem to be fairly well-known, when using the Google Maps API to render a map within a jQuery UI tab. I've seen SO questions posted about similar issues (here and here, for example) but the solutions there only seem to work for v2 of the Maps API. Other references I checked out are here and here, along with pretty much everything I could dig up through Googling. I've been trying to stuff a map (using v3 of the API) into a jQuery tab with mixed results. I'm using the latest versions of everything (currently jQuery 1.3.2, jQuery UI 1.7.2, don't know about Maps). This is the markup & javascript: <body> <div id="dashtabs"> <span class="logout"> <a href="go away">Log out</a> </span> <!-- tabs --> <ul class="dashtabNavigation"> <li><a href="#first_tab" >First</a></li> <li><a href="#second_tab" >Second</a></li> <li><a href="#map_tab" >Map</a></li> </ul> <!-- tab containers --> <div id="first_tab">This is my first tab</div> <div id="second_tab">This is my second tab</div> <div id="map_tab"> <div id="map_canvas"></div> </div> </div> </body> and $(document).ready(function() { var map = null; $('#dashtabs').tabs(); $('#dashtabs').bind('tabsshow', function(event, ui) { if (ui.panel.id == 'map_tab' && !map) { map = initializeMap(); google.maps.event.trigger(map, 'resize'); } }); }); function initializeMap() { // Just some canned map for now var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(-34.397, 150.644); var myOptions = { zoom: 8, center: latlng, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP }; return new google.maps.Map($('#map_canvas')[0], myOptions); } And here's what I've found that does/doesn't work (for Maps API v3): Using the off-left technique as described in the jQuery UI Tabs documentation (and in the answers to the two questions I linked) doesn't work at all. In fact, the best-functioning code uses the CSS .ui-tabs .ui-tabs-hide { display: none; } instead. The only way to get a map to display in a tab at all is to set the CSS width and height of #map_canvas to be absolute values. Changing the width and height to auto or 100% causes the map to not display at all, even if it's already been successfully rendered (using absolute width and height). I couldn't find it documented anywhere outside of the Maps API, but map.checkResize() won't work anymore. Instead, you have to fire a resize event by calling google.maps.event.trigger(map, 'resize'). If the map is not initialized inside of a function bound to a tabsshow event, the map itself is rendered correctly but the controls are not - most are just plain missing. So, here are my questions: Does anyone else have experience accomplishing this same feat? If so, how did you figure out what would actually work, since the documented tricks don't work for Maps API v3? What about loading tab content using Ajax as per the jQuery UI docs? I haven't had a chance to play around with it but my guess is that it's going to break Maps even more. What are the chances of getting it to work (or is it not worth trying)? How do I make the map fill the largest possible area? I'd like it to fill the tab and adapt to page resizes, much in the way that it's done over at maps.google.com. But, as I said, I appear to be stuck with applying only absolute width and height CSS to the map div. Sorry if this was long-winded but this might be the only documentation for Maps API v3 + jQuery tabs. Cheers!

  • Best UI development framework on windows?

    - by TG
I have been developing UI in Win32/MFC, but developing cool UI in Win32/MFC is very difficult and time consuming. Please note, I always want my code to be platform independent, So I prefer programming back-end (Business logic) in C++. Which is the best framework for developing cool UI on windows platform? I heard of quite a few, like Qt, Flex, Delphi. What is your thoughts (Pros and Cons) on these UI development frameworks. Which one do you recommend ?

  • Pagination in Tab Content of Jquery UI

    - by DR.GEWA
I am making a page with Jquery UI TABS. In one of tabs I want to make pagination for comments. I want such thing. When user clicks on the number of the page, the data of the page , which is linked will load via ajax in the tab. Here is my code <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $("#tabs").tabs(); }); $('#demo').tabs({ load: function(event, ui) { $('a', ui.panel).click(function() { $(ui.panel).load(this.href); return false; }); } }); </script> How can I change this , so that any link inside the content with lets say with id "pagination" <a href="/coments?page=12&user_id=12" id="pagination">12</a> ?? Thanks beforehand I tried recently like this even and no luck. This is from http://www.bannerite.com/jquerytest/index2.php Here it work <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $("#tabs").tabs(); var hijax = function(panel){ $('a', panel).click(function() { /**makes children 'a' on panel load via ajax, hence hijax*/ $(panel).load(this.href, null, function(){ /**recursively apply the hijax to newly loaded panels*/ hijax(panel); }); /**prevents propagation of click to document*/ return false; }); $('form', panel).css({background: 'yellow'}).ajaxForm({ target: panel, }); }; $('#demo ul').tabs({ /**initialize the tabs hijax pattern*/ load: function(tab, panel) { hijax(panel); } }); }); </script> HEre are the HTML part as Karl gived , but no succes. When clicking on Test link its going to another page........ When clicking on I wanted to post HTML here but because of users with less reputation <10 cant give HTML with links I have posted it here http://gevork.ru/2009/12/31/jquery-ui-tab-and-pagination-html/#more-58

  • Star Rating widget for jQuery UI

    - by Roger
    I was introduced to the Star Rating widget for jQuery UI: http://orkans-tmp.22web.net/star_rating/ I was originally using this one: http://www.fyneworks.com/jquery/star-rating/ Is there any difference between using the two? Well trying to use the jquery UI one, I can't get the input buttons to show up as stars. I have these js and css files included: <script src="jquery-1.3.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="jquery-ui-1.7.2.custom.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="ui.stars.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <link href="ui.stars.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" /> And for my code, simply: <form> Rating: <span id="stars-cap"></span> <div id="stars-wrapper1"> <input type="radio" name="newrate" value="1" title="Very poor" /> <input type="radio" name="newrate" value="2" title="Poor" /> <input type="radio" name="newrate" value="3" title="Not that bad" /> <input type="radio" name="newrate" value="4" title="Fair" /> <input type="radio" name="newrate" value="5" title="Average" checked="checked" /> <input type="radio" name="newrate" value="6" title="Almost good" /> <input type="radio" name="newrate" value="7" title="Good" /> <input type="radio" name="newrate" value="8" title="Very good" /> <input type="radio" name="newrate" value="9" title="Excellent" /> <input type="radio" name="newrate" value="10" title="Perfect" /> </div> </form> All the files and images are in the same folder. I've never used jquery UI before, so I'm not sure if all I need is that file. I'm not sure if it needs it either, the other star rating plugin I was using didn't require it. Anyone know what I'm missing anything?

  • Using jQuery.UI CSS Framework for DIV Styling

    - by Gordon
Hi folks, a Project I am currently working on uses the jQuery UI framework for some of its widgets. To provide the user with a global look and feel I would like to use the framework also for its css stuff. I am implementing at the moment a dashboard like homepage, where the user can see an overall status of its data. This dashboard is build of some divs that should be aligned into a grid layout. I try to style the divs like follows <div class="ui-widget"> <div class="ui-widget-header">Box Header</div> <div class="ui-widget-content"> Content of the Box </div> </div> Later I would like to implement some draggable-and-sortable functionality. The Problem I am facing right now is that the boxes aren't properly aligned. Does anyone has a hint on using jQuery.UI for that kind of css work? I was studing the CSS framework documentation on jqueryui.com but there aren't that much information. best regards, Gordon

  • problem jquery.ui.autocomplete 1.8 with height and overflow with IE

    - by fabrice
Hello, I have a probleme with jquery.ui.autocomplete 1.8 rc2 in IE7 or IE8 with the following CSS (inside jquery.ui.autocomplete.css) : .ui-menu { list-style:none; padding: 2px; margin: 0;display:block; height:200px; overflow:scroll; } I'm using the demo from the project called : demos\autocomplete\remote-jsonp.html It's working perfect with firefox but with IE7 or 8, each time I click on the scroll bar to see the end of the list, it selects an element instead of scrolling down. • free css ui template

    - by Dels
Hi, Could someone show me some css ui framework/template for consistent web application, something like: http://www.webguitemplates.com/templates/futurism/futurism-blue http://www.webguitemplates.com/templates/simplus/simplus-silver http://www.adminizio.com/ http://gooeytemplates.myshopify.com/products/blue-atom http://gooeytemplates.myshopify.com/products/blue-carbon http://themeforest.net/category/site-templates/admin-skins http://demo.sproutcore.com/sample%5Fcontrols/ http://ukijs.org/functional/wave.html The framework/template is "pure" css and not javascript/ajax framework (ExtJS, JQuery UI, YUI, etc) and can work without JQuery or other JS/Ajax framework (mainly it just the UI). Maybe be a bit too much, but consider the template included: Form styling (input, button, select, fieldset, radio, checkbox, etc) Table styling (header, row-highlight, row-focus, etc) Navigation styling (tab based, list based, etc) Text typography (h1...h3, b, i, u, em, strong, a, etc) I found some here: http://www.webresourcesdepot.com/free-admin-template-for-web-applications/ http://blogfreakz.com/web-design/excellent-free-admin-template-for-web-applications/ I hope i could find any, especially the one that looks like google product (gmail, wave, analytics), just for speeding up web design process while maintaining consistency on UI design.

  • Where to put the default destroy in the jQuery UI 1.8.1 widget's destroy function

    - by dominicminicoopers
Ok, I'm having a slight bit of confusion writing my own jQuery UI widget plugins. The problem lies in the destroy function. In the docs, it says to put the default destroy first then write other things particular to the widget after it. $.Widget.prototype.destroy.apply(this, arguments); // default destroy // now do other stuff particular to this widget See http://jqueryui.com/docs/Developer_Guide However in their example scripts (those being the actual pluings for jQuery Ui released code, does it the opposite. The $.Widget.prototype.destroy.apply(this, arguments); is at the end of the function. See http://dev.jqueryui.com/browser/trunk/ui/jquery.ui.progressbar.js (and all of the other built in widgets as well) So which is it? The way the current widgets are written, or by the explanation in the code comment in the Developer_Guide?

  • Experiences with UI Automation and WPF

    - by soren.enemaerke
We are developing a rather large WPF based application and would like to include some automated UI testing in our test suite (which already contains a number of unit tests). The UI Automation Framework from Microsoft partly sounds like a perfect fit for programatically launching and interacting with the application in a test setup. However, I've struggled to find solid references for samples and experiences with the technology, the articles and small samples available on MSDN is not enough to convince me that it is a solid choice. So, does anybody have real world experiences using the UI Automation Framework in their test suite? What are the caveats and the gotchas? Any best practices when written tests scripts, can you "record and replay" to a scriptable format, how much should you facilitate the testing from the application, how did you incorporate it in the automatic build? Should we be looking in another direction than the UI Automation Framework? Feel free to post you experiences here or link to some good references I might have missed

  • how to find selected elements with Jquery UI selectable

    - by kevzettler
Hi All, I am looking for info on the event and ui objects the jquery selectable events: "selecting", and "start" take as parameters. I cannot find this in the documentation and looping through the properties is no help. $('#content_td_account').selectable({ filter: 'li:not(".non_draggable")', selecting: function(event, ui) { } }); Specifically I want to find what elements are being selected and check them to see if their parent elements are the same or not. I assumed this would be in the ui object some where.

  • jQuery UI datepicker will not display - full code included

    - by Bill Brasky
    I am having trouble displaying the jQuery datepicker as shown here: http://jqueryui.com/demos/datepicker/ I believe I downloaded all of the proper files, but to be certain, I started from scratch and ripped the demo site. Not all of it, but what I believed to be the important parts. The result is no datepicker to be shown and no javascript errors. Here is my full code sample: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://static.jquery.com/ui/css/base2.css" type="text/css" media="all" /> <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.1/themes/base/jquery-ui.css" type="text/css" media="all" /> <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://static.jquery.com/ui/css/demo-docs-theme/ui.theme.css" type="text/css" media="all" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.1/jquery-ui.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"> jQuery(function(){ jQuery("#datepicker").datepicker(); }); </script> </head> <body> <input type="text" id="datepicker" class="hasDatepicker" /> </body> </html> Any help would be very much appreciated.   • JQuery UI datepicker in Asp.Net MVC

I have tried to use some of the widgets in JQuery UI on an Asp.Net MVC site without luck. For example the basic datepicker from jQuery UI - functional demos. I have created a simple MVC project and added the script references in Site.Master like this: <script src="../../Scripts/jquery-1.2.6.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="../../Scripts/jquery-ui-personalized-1.5.3.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <link href="../../Content/Site.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link href="../../Content/ui.datepicker.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />" In the Index.aspx file I have cleared all default content and added the following: <script type="text/javascript"> $("#basics").datepicker(); </script> <input type="text" size="10" value="click here" id="basics"/> The core jQuery works fine. Any clues?

  • jQuery UI - Sortable isn't firing?

    - by Kenny Bones
Hi, I'm trying to get the jQuery UI sortable plugin to work and I've created a list that looks like this: <ul id="sortable"> <li>Item 1</li> <li>Item 2</li> <li>Item 3</li> <li>Item 4</li> <li>Item 5</li> </ul> And I've included the plugin script files: $(function() { $("#sortable").sortable(); alert('test'); $("#sortable").disableSelection(); }); So I just tried putting the alert box before .sortable is run and the alertbox is showing. But putting it after .sortable isn't working. Which means that .sortable is failing right? I've included the scripts and put them in the head of the html document. <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.ui.core.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.ui.mouse.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.ui.sortable.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.ui.widget.min.js"></script> Which is correct right? And the function that actually runs .sortable is in a merged js file along with all other js snippets and plugins.

  • Is Bootstrap 2.1 compatible with jQuery UI?

    - by Ghopper21
It's a known problem that the older Bootstrap didn't work out of the box with jQuery UI, as you can see from this github discussion. There are a few mashups of the two, including jQuery Bootstrap by John Seigers and jQuery UI Bootstrap by Addy Osmani. Are those mashups still necessary with the new version of Bootstrap, or can you now just use Bootstrap and jQuery UI out of the box (as is alluded to vaguely in the github discussion)?

  • How to extend a jquery ui widget ? (1.7)

    - by Jide
I would like to create a custom version of the sortable widget. I have been searching for documentation, but could not find something really accurate. The best information I found was : http://jqueryui.pbworks.com/Widget-factory. I tried : $.widget("ui.customsortable", $.extend($.ui.sortable, { _init: function() { $.widget.prototype._init.apply(this, arguments); } })); But $.widget.prototype._init is not the function I want to call I guess since it is the $.widget prototype. Then, I tried something I read here and there : var _init = $.ui.sortable.prototype._init; $.widget("ui.customsortable", $.extend($.ui.sortable, { _init: function() { _init.apply(this, arguments); }, })); But : I can't believe I have to store all methods I want to override like this, it is so ugly. It throws an error ("this.refresh is not a function"), which means the refresh method does not exist. Does that mean I would have to recreate all methods I want to override ? What's the point of extending in that case ? Am I missing something here ? Thanks for your help !

  • jQuery UI: how to run evaluation

    I want to add 'Year' or Years' to the end of a string depending on the string. Like this: $("#selector").val(conditional_value_here); Using jQuery UI I have a slider that manipulates a value: $("#slider").slider({ value: 1, min: 1, max: 25, step: 1, slide: function(event, ui) { $("#amount").val(ui.value + ' Year' + function(){return (ui.value == 1) ? '' : 's';} ); } }); // and again I want to do the same for the initialization of the value: $("#amount_3").val($("#slider_3").slider("value") + ' Jahr' + function(){return ($("#slider_3").slider("value") == 1) ? '' : 's';}); This does not work. What is the correct way to to this?
