  Hello, To the point. I have Ubuntu Maverick running on my Lenovo G450. Before, it was Windows 7. All my data are inside another partition, its NTFS. FSTAB line to mount that partition : /dev/sda5 /data ntfs auto,users,uid=1000,gid=1000,utf8,dmask=027,fmask=137 0 0 Inside /data there are folder Musics, Graphics, Tools, Cores, etc. If I'm about to create new folder, let see, GFX on /home/apronouva/GFX and make it link or pointing to /data/Graphics, how do I do that ? So when I open /home/apronouva/GFX the content will be the same as inside /data/Graphics .. and whatever changes I made inside GFX, it will also affect /data/Graphics I tried : $ ln -s /data/Graphics /home/apronouva/GFX it resulted : error, cannot make symbolic link between folder Thanks in advance, Fath

• Why I don't use SSIS checkpoint files

  In a recent discussion in regard to general ETL best practises the subject of checkpoint files as a means for package restartability came up and I stated that I was dead against using them. For anyone that may care, here is why: Configuring them is distinctly unintuitive (that's a matter of opinion but if you follow the link I'll wager that you will agree) they don't make any allowance for loop iterations they cannot store variables of type Object they are limited in ability. There are many scenarios where you may want to execute certain containers regardless of whether the package is started from a checkpoint file but the current usage model does not allow for this. they are ignored by eventhandlers, which wouldn't be so bad if there were a way to toggle this behaviour in certain scenarios they dont work properly I'll expand on the last bullet point. I have encountered situations where the behaviour for tasks executing concurrently is unpredictable. That is, sometimes the completion of a task that executes concurrently with a failed/failing task will make it into the checkpoint file and sometimes it won't. This is near-impossible to reproduce but it does happen as my good friend John Welch will hopefully concur (if he is reading). Is anyone out there making successful use of checkpoint files within SSIS? I would be interested in knowing about that if so. @Jamiet

• How to serve static files for multiple Django projects via nginx to same domain

  I am trying to setup my nginx conf so that I can serve the relevant files for my multiple Django projects. Ultimately I want each app to be available at www.example.com/app1, www.example.com/app2 etc. They all serve static files from a 'static-files' directory located in their respective project root. The project structure: Home Ubuntu Web www.example.com ref logs app app1 app1 static bower_components templatetags app1_project templates static-files app2 app2 static templates templatetags app2_project static-files app3 tests templates static-files static app3_project app3 venv When I use the conf below, there are no problems for serving the static-files for the app that I designate in the /static/ location. I can also access the different apps found at their locations. However, I cannot figure out how to serve all of the static files for all the apps at the same time. I have looked into using the 'try_files' command for the static location, but cannot figure out how to see if it is working or not. • Folder redirection GPO doesn't seem to be working

  I've been trying to set up roaming profiles and folder redirection, but have hit a bit of a snag with the latter. This is exactly what I've done so far: (I have OU permissions and GPO permissions over my division's OU.) Created a group called Roaming-Users in the OU 'Groups' Added a single user (testuser) to the group Using the Group Policy Management tool (via RSAT on Windows 7) I right-clicked on the Groups OU and selected 'Create a GPO in this domain, and Link it here' Added my 'Roaming-Users' group to the Security Filtering section of the policy. Added the Folder Redirection option, specifically for Documents. It is set to redirect to: \myserver\Homes$\%USERNAME%\Documents (Homes$ exists and is sharing-enabled). Right-clicked on the policy under the Groups OU and checked Enforced. Logged into a machine as testuser successfully. Created a simple text file, saved some gibberish, logged off. Remoted into the server with Homes$ on it, noticed that the directory Homes$\testuser was created, but was empty. No text file to be found. From what I've read, I did everything I aught to...but I can't quite figure out the issue. I had no errors when I logged off about syncing issues (offline files is enabled) or anything, so I can only imagine my file should have ended up up on the share. Any ideas? EDIT: Using gpresult /R, I confirmed the user is in fact part of the Roaming-Users group, but does not have the policy applied, if that helps. EDIT 2: Apparently you can't apply GPOs to groups...so I applied to users and used the same security filter to limit it to my test user. Nothing happens as far as redirection goes, but I now have the following error in the event log: Folder redirection policy application has been delayed until the next logon because the group policy logon optimization is in effect

• Folder Redirection won't load on Windows 7 Machine in Windows 2008 R2 Network

  Okay so redirected profiles don't load exactly, but the computer is joined to the network and it won't display any of the users files on their desktop that are in their redirected profile. I know this because we have a Terminal Server and when the user logs in there, her files appear. I checked the users' profile in Active Directory Users and Computers and compared it with a working users profile. When that didn't turn up any differences, I looked at her computer and found that on the Dial-in tab the Network Access Permission wasn't set to Control access through NPS Network Policy like it was on the other machines on the network; so I selected it, ran gpupdate /force on her machine and rebooted. This did not fix the issue. Is there anything else that could be preventing the redirected files on the users desktop from showing up when the user logs in?

  Is there a way to change the background color in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 when the current folder being displayed meets a certain condition? Or is there a way I can change the icons of the files and folders within that folder so it's distinctive--similar to how Tortoise SVN does it for code checked out from a repository? Why? I'd like to do this for a deployment directory on a live server so users don't accidentally commit code to a certain environment. Like myself. :-)

  I have a user who is trying to configure the Unread Mail search folder for a shared mailbox in Outlook 2007. I believe last time we accomplished this by doing an advanced find, and saving the search. However, on this computer I can't search more than one folder of the shared mailbox at a time. Everything I have read online says this isn't possible, but we have one user who has it set up and working perfectly. There's no additional software or indexing, not even Windows Desktop Search 4.0 updates installed.

• Map FTP folder to folder on different FTP server

  In my team we work a lot with FTP. We upload and download files from several different servers daily. Currently every member of the team manages access credentials to each FTP server locally on their own machine. I am looking for a way to set up a central FTP server that we can connect to, and from there, navigate to folders that each represent one of the other FTP servers that we connect to daily. Something like this: In-house central FTP server: |- FolderA --> server A root folder |- FolderB --> server B root folder |- FolderC --> server C root folder A setup like this, would mean that we can manage access credentials on the central FTP server, and team members would only need to have the access credentials to the central FTP server, and from there they could navigate to the other servers through these "virtual" folders. We could potentially develop our own custom FTP server that just forward requests to the remote FTP servers, but i feel like something like this (or something similar) would already have been done.   I have collected many free themes from around internet. Each of them has a screenshot.jpg or png file on their folder. I want to scan all the folders for that file, and return the full file path to be used with an img html tag. I am not interested on partial path or folders where there are not screenshots. For example, if my fodler structure is: ./a/b/ ./c/d/e/screenshot.jpg ./f/ ./g/screenshot.jpg ./h/i/j/k/ ./l/m/screenshot.png ./n/o/ ./p/screenshot.jpg I want to get: ./c/d/e/screenshot.jpg ./g/screenshot.jpg ./l/m/screenshot.png ./p/screenshot.jpg I managed somehow to get a recursive function, but I figured only the way to return an array and then i can't get rid of what I don't need, and I miss png. I'd prefer to do it without having to install any 3rd party software, but I'll be ok if it's a very small and simple utility. I want this to force me to keep my files organized.   Hi I have this very annoying problem : Whenever I want to create or edit a folder on my system it takes a very long time to complete. Right click-new folder... wait... wait... wait a good 30-60 seconds then type name and enter... wait again 30-60 seconds and then you can enter it. Browsing is normal and I have no problem creating folders through applications like eclipse but through explorer it is a real pain. Renaming folders has similar effect. otherwise the computer is (almost) normal, any ideas ?

• Managing arbitrary user permissions under PureFTPd

  I need to provide an FTP service that needs to be web-managed in the simplest way possible. My customer wants to create folders and users, and give them read only or read/write access arbitrarily. For example: The folder 'Documents' should be read only for several users, writable for internal users, and invisible for the rest. The folder 'Pictures' should be read only for journalists, writable for associates, and invisible for the rest. The folder 'Media' should be read only, writable or invisible for arbitrary users specified on the admin. There could be a large number of users and folders. I can't find a good way to accomplish that. I thought that I could give each user a home folder and put symlinks for the folders he has read access to, and make the user part of the folder's group when he has write access too, but now I think that this wouldn't work, because with PureFTPd (or ProFTPd) I can only specify the virtual user's mapping to a system user, and only one GUID for each virtual user. My approach requires that I could specify several GUIDs for each user (one by each folder he has write access to). I need to start programming this admin and I still don't know wich approach would work, if any. ¿Any ideas?

• Which hidden files and directories do I need?

  In a previous question, I explained my situation/plan: backing up home directory on external drive, reformatting laptop drive, installing 14.04, putting home directory back. (It hasn't happened yet because I can't seem to find the down time, in case things aren't working right away.) It occurred to me that maybe I don't want all of those hidden files and directories (e.g. .local/share/ubuntuone/syncdaemon/, .cache/google-chrome/, etc.) Just judging by the amount of time in copying, I can tell that some of these hidden directories are large. Question: Are there any hidden directories that I obviously don't need/want when I have the laptop running an updated distribution? Will they cause conflicts? (I plan on copying the backed-up directory tree back onto the laptop with the --no-clobber option.)

  I want to use Folder Redirection to redirect user's My Documents to a network share. First question is: What is best practices for mapping the drive? Should I use the profile tab in AD with the %username% variable, or a net use logon script, or something else? Second question is: How do I deal with laptops and syncing the network with the local storage? I want to have 2-way syncing so if they manually map their networked home drive and edit it from a different computer, it will sync the newer version to their My Documents folder the next time they connect their normal work computer. I also want to be sure that if they edit a file offline on their laptop while away from the office, that the network version syncs the changes the next time they connect that laptop. Please advise best practices for this scenario in a 2008 R2/Win7 environment. I am also interested in Mac clients for this environment, and while I am very Mac savvy, I would like to hear what others consider to be best practices for Mac network homedirs in a Win environment.

The quota is in no way a physical limit, just a value inserted by me to decide whether a user is using too much space or not. The script does the job quite neatly and sends an html file by mail on a regular basis. The problem is that it's such a hassle to insert new quotas since I have to fiddle around with the code. A central "control panel" with an overview and ability to insert new quotas would be more suitable. Is there any software that can do the following: Scan specified folder/subfolders Report the file size and present it in some sort of interface (could be a php/mysql solution) Ability to specify a quota and see the difference value ? It is really important that the quota handling is made simple so that some non-technician can handle this.

• eclipse wont include/identify user .h files and .o files

  i'm new to eclipse CDT, and try to use an existing .o file that was supplied with the proper .h file. eclipse just wont include it in the compilation process. i tryed drag&drop to the eclipse project browser, and the files did show there, but no use, still "No such file: No such file or directory". i tryed defining the .o file in the: project properties tool settings MinGW C Linker Miscellaneous other objects. didn't work either. as for the header file, i did try a workaround: created a new file in the project and named it after the file i want to include as header, then copied the content. and yet, the compiler/linker didn't recognize the object file. perhaps you can help?thank you
