  • Batch Image compression tool for optimizing thousands of images

    - by Daniel Magliola
Hi all, I'm maintaining a site that has thousands of images that have not been compressed nearly enough. The homepage weighs in at 1.5 Mb currently, and it could easily be way less that half that. I'm looking for some kind of tool that'll take a folder full of JPG pictures and will recompress them to their "optimal" compression value. Obviously, "optimal lossy compression setting" is an oxymoron, but I'm thinking maybe a tool that'll try different levels and compare the outputs to the input, and choose a "sweet spot" between size and destruction? Or even try whether PNG is a better option, many times it is, for "drawing" type stuff. Does anyone of you know any such tool? I'd have lots of fun coding one, but I bet someone already did and will save me 2 days. Alternatively, of course, anything that'll take all pictures in a folder and recompress them with a fixed quality level (say, 40) will also work, it'll just not make my inner nerd as happy, but it'll solve my problem just fine. (Ideally something that can run on Windows, ideally from the command line) Thank you!

  • Slow PDF upload for Confluence

    - by JPJedi
We run a site that we host that uses the Atlassian Confluence. The site works great and is being used now. But there is one thing. It seems like when pdf and gifs are uploaded the upload speed will be slower. But the smaller files will upload fine. Has anyone else having an issue with uploading pdf's into confluence? I am trying to use fiddler to track the speed but am not having luck with that. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

  • Reverse reading WORD from a binary file?

    - by Angel
    Hi, I have a structure: struct JFIF_HEADER { WORD marker[2]; // = 0xFFD8FFE0 WORD length; // = 0x0010 BYTE signature[5]; // = "JFIF\0" BYTE versionhi; // = 1 BYTE versionlo; // = 1 BYTE xyunits; // = 0 WORD xdensity; // = 1 WORD ydensity; // = 1 BYTE thumbnwidth; // = 0 BYTE thumbnheight; // = 0 }; This is how I read it from the file: HANDLE file = CreateFile(filename, GENERIC_READ, FILE_SHARE_READ, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL, 0); DWORD tmp = 0; DWORD size = GetFileSize(file, &tmp); BYTE *DATA = new BYTE[size]; ReadFile(file, DATA, size, &tmp, 0); JFIF_HEADER header; memcpy(&header, DATA, sizeof(JFIF_HEADER)); This is how the beginning of my file looks in hex editor: 0xFF 0xD8 0xFF 0xE0 0x00 0x10 0x4A 0x46 0x49 0x46 0x00 0x01 0x01 0x00 0x00 0x01 When I print header.marker, it shows exactly what it should (0xFFD8FFE0). But when I print header.length, it shows 0x1000 instead of 0x0010. The same thing is with xdensity and ydensity. Why do I get wrong data when reading a WORD? Thank you.

  • Using ImageMagick to create an image from a PDF...efficiently

    - by bigsweater
I'm using ImageMagick to create a tiny JPG thumbnail image of an already-uploaded PDF. The code works fine. It's a WordPress widget, though this isn't necessarily WordPress specific. I'm unfamiliar with ImageMagick, so I was hoping somebody could tell me if this looks terrible or isn't following some best practices of some sort, or if I'm risking crashing the server. My questions, specifically, are: Is that image cached, or does the server have to re-generate the image every time somebody views the page? If it isn't cached, what's the best way to make sure the server doesn't have to regenerate the thumbnail? I tried to create a separate folder (/thumbs) for ImageMagick to put all the images in, instead of cluttering up the WP upload folders with images of PDFs. It kept throwing a permission error, despite 777 permissions on the folder in my testing environment. Why? Do the source/destination directories have to be the same? Am I doing anything incorrectly/inefficiently here that needs to be improved? The whole widget is on Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/WnSTEDm7 Relevant code: <?php if ( $url ) { $pdf = $url; $info = pathinfo($pdf); $filename = basename($pdf,'.'.$info['extension']); $uploads = wp_upload_dir(); $file_path = str_replace( $uploads['baseurl'], $uploads['basedir'], $url ); $dest_path = str_replace( '.pdf', '.jpg', $file_path ); $dest_url = str_replace( '.pdf', '.jpg', $pdf ); exec("convert \"{$file_path}[0]\" -colorspace RGB -geometry 60 $dest_path"); ?> <div class="entry"> <div class="widgetImg"> <p><a href="<?php echo $url; ?>" title="<?php echo $filename; ?>"><?php echo "<img src='".$dest_url."' alt='".$filename."' class='blueBorder' />"; ?></a></p> </div> <div class="widgetText"> <?php echo wpautop( $desc ); ?> <p><a class="downloadLink" href="<?php echo $url; ?>" title="<?php echo $filename; ?>">Download</a></p> </div> </div> <?php } ?> As you can see, the widget grabs whatever PDF is attached to the current page being viewed, creates an image of the first page of the PDF, stores it, then links to it in HTML. Thanks for any and all help!

  • Images with unknown content: Dangerous for a browser?

    - by chris_l
Let's say I allow users to link to any images they like. The link would be checked for syntactical correctness, escaping etc., and then inserted in an <img src="..."/> tag. Are there any known security vulnerabilities, e.g. by someone linking to "evil.example.com/evil.jpg", and evil.jpg contains some code that will be executed due to a browser bug or something like that? (Let's ignore CSRF attacks - it must suffice that I will only allow URLs with typical image file suffixes.)

  • For Loop not advancing

    - by shizishan
I'm trying to read in a large number of jpg files using a for loop. But for some reason, the k index is not advancing. I just get A as a 460x520x3 uint8. Am I missing something? My goal with this code is to convert all the jpg images to the same size. Since I haven't been able to advance through the images, I can't quite tell if I'm doing it right. nFrames = length(date); % Number of frames. for k = 1:nFrames-1 % Number of days % Set file under consideration A = imread(['map_EUS_' datestr(cell2mat(date_O3(k)),'yyyy_mm_dd') '_O3_MDA8.jpg']); % Size of existing image A. [rowsA, colsA, numberOfColorChannelsA] = size(A); % Read in and get size of existing image B (the next image). B = imread(['map_EUS_' datestr(cell2mat(date_O3(k+1)),'yyyy_mm_dd') '_O3_MDA8.jpg']); [rowsB, colsB, numberOfColorChannelsB] = size(B); % Size of B does not match A, so resize B to match A's size. B = imresize(B, [rowsA colsA]); eval(['print -djpeg map_EUS_' datestr(cell2mat(date_O3(k)),'yyyy_mm_dd') '_O3_MDA8_test.jpg']); end end

  • Android: How to save a preview frame as jpeg image?

    - by niko
Hi, I would like to save a preview frame as a jpeg image. I have tried to write the following code: public void onPreviewFrame(byte[] _data, Camera _camera) { if(settings.isRecording()) { Camera.Parameters params = _camera.getParameters(); params.setPictureFormat(PixelFormat.JPEG); _camera.setParameters(params); String path = "ImageDir" + frameCount; fileRW.setPath(path); fileRW.WriteToFile(_data); frameCount++; } } but it's not possible to open a saved file as a jpeg image. Does anyone know how to save preview frames as jpeg images? Thanks

  • How to proceed jpeg Image file size after read--rotate-write operations in Java?

    - by zamska
Im trying to read a JPEG image as BufferedImage, rotate and save it as another jpeg image from file system. But there is a problem : after these operations I cannot proceed same file size. Here the code //read Image BufferedImage img = ImageIO.read(new File(path)); //rotate Image BufferedImage rotatedImage = new BufferedImage(image.getHeight(), image.getWidth(), BufferedImage.TYPE_3BYTE_BGR); Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) rotatedImage.getGraphics(); g2d.rotate(Math.toRadians(PhotoConstants.ROTATE_LEFT)); int height=-rotatedImage.getHeight(null); g2d.drawImage(image, height, 0, null); g2d.dispose(); //Write Image Iterator iter = ImageIO.getImageWritersByFormatName("jpeg"); ImageWriter writer = (ImageWriter)iter.next(); // instantiate an ImageWriteParam object with default compression options ImageWriteParam iwp = writer.getDefaultWriteParam(); try { FileImageOutputStream output = null; iwp.setCompressionMode(ImageWriteParam.MODE_EXPLICIT); iwp.setCompressionQuality(0.98f); // an integer between 0 and 1 // 1 specifies minimum compression and maximum quality File file = new File(path); output = new FileImageOutputStream(file); writer.setOutput(output); IIOImage iioImage = new IIOImage(image, null, null); writer.write(null, iioImage, iwp); output.flush(); output.close(); writer.dispose(); Is it possible to access compressionQuality parameter of original jpeg image in the beginning. when I set 1 to compression quality, the image gets bigger size. Otherwise I set 0.9 or less the image gets smaller size. How can i proceed the image size after these operations? Thank you,

  • Differences when Running with OutputCache managed module under ASP.NET IIS7.x with Cache-control header

    - by Shawn Cicoria
    This post is to report some differences when using MVC or IHttpHandlers if you’re attempting to set the Cache-control : max-age or s-maxage value under IIS7.x using the HttpResponse.Cache methods. [UPDATE]: 2011-3-14 – The missing piece was calling  Response.Cache.SetSlidingExpiration(true) as follows: context.Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Public); context.Response.Cache.SetMaxAge(TimeSpan.FromMinutes(5)); context.Response.ContentType = "image/jpeg"; context.Response.Cache.SetSlidingExpiration(true);   Under IIS7.x if you us one of the following 2 methods, you will only get a Cache-ability of “public”.  public ActionResult Image2() { MemoryStream oStream = new MemoryStream(); using (Bitmap obmp = ImageUtil.RenderImage("Respone.Cache.Setxx calls", 5, DateTime.Now)) { obmp.Save(oStream, ImageFormat.Jpeg); oStream.Position = 0; Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Public); Response.Cache.SetMaxAge(TimeSpan.FromMinutes(5)); return new FileStreamResult(oStream, "image/jpeg"); } } Method 2 – which is just a plain old HttpHandler and really isn’t MVC3, but under the same MVC ASP.NET application, same result. public class image : IHttpHandler { public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) { using (var image = ImageUtil.RenderImage("called from IHttpHandler direct", 5, DateTime.Now)) { context.Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Public); context.Response.Cache.SetMaxAge(TimeSpan.FromMinutes(5)); context.Response.ContentType = "image/jpeg"; image.Save(context.Response.OutputStream, ImageFormat.Jpeg); } } } Using the following under MVC3 (I haven’t tried under earlier versions) will work by applying the OutputCacheAttribute to your Action: [OutputCache(Location = OutputCacheLocation.Any, Duration = 300)] public ActionResult Image1() { MemoryStream oStream = new MemoryStream(); using (Bitmap obmp = ImageUtil.RenderImage("called with OutputCacheAttribute", 5, DateTime.Now)) { obmp.Save(oStream, ImageFormat.Jpeg); oStream.Position = 0; return new FileStreamResult(oStream, "image/jpeg"); } } To remove the “OutputCache” module, you use the following in your web.config: <system.webServer> <validation validateIntegratedModeConfiguration="false"/> <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true"> <!--<remove name="OutputCache"/>--> </modules>

  • Why do I get completely different results when saving a BitmapSource to bmp, jpeg, and png in WPF

    - by DanM
I wrote a little utility class that saves BitmapSource objects to image files. The image files can be either bmp, jpeg, or png. Here is the code: public class BitmapProcessor { public void SaveAsBmp(BitmapSource bitmapSource, string path) { Save(bitmapSource, path, new BmpBitmapEncoder()); } public void SaveAsJpg(BitmapSource bitmapSource, string path) { Save(bitmapSource, path, new JpegBitmapEncoder()); } public void SaveAsPng(BitmapSource bitmapSource, string path) { Save(bitmapSource, path, new PngBitmapEncoder()); } private void Save(BitmapSource bitmapSource, string path, BitmapEncoder encoder) { using (var stream = new FileStream(path, FileMode.Create)) { encoder.Frames.Add(BitmapFrame.Create(bitmapSource)); encoder.Save(stream); } } } Each of the three Save methods work, but I get unexpected results with bmp and jpeg. Png is the only format that produces an exact reproduction of what I see if I show the BitmapSource on screen using a WPF Image control. Here are the results: BMP - too dark JPEG - too saturated PNG - correct Why am I getting completely different results for different file types? I should note that the BitmapSource in my example uses an alpha value of 0.1 (which is why it appears very desaturated), but it should be possible to show the resulting colors in any image format. I know if I take a screen capture using something like HyperSnap, it will look correct regardless of what file type I save to. Here's a HyperSnap screen capture saved as a bmp: As you can see, this isn't a problem, so there's definitely something strange about WPF's image encoders. Do I have a setting wrong? Am I missing something?

Any help on this one would be greatly apreciated, since I absolutely need the images content.

  • When and How is an image cached for an ASPX with ContentType = image/jpeg ?

    - by Aamir Hasan
In asp.net you can cache your page. You can vary the output cache by the followingThe query string in an initial request (HTTP GET).Control values passed on postback (HTTP POST values). The HTTP headers passed with a request. The major version number of the browser making the request.      A custom string in the page. In that case, you create custom code in the Global.asax file to specify the page's caching behavior.Link: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/xadzbzd6(VS.80).aspxyou can set the output caching for your GetImage.aspx, so that you dont have to requery the database every image request ,but you must use varybyParam , so that you have a cached version for every parameters arrangement:set the output cache for your page like this :At top of ASPX page: <%@ OutputCache Duration="600" VaryByParam="ID,Height,Width" %>VaryByParam  attribute allows you to vary the cached output depending on the query string.Adding this will make your images cached for 600 seconds, so that if the image request within this period ,the cahed version will be returned

  • Recovered folders from Camera show as JPEG files and can can't be viewed.

    - by user642111
I have recovered a CCTV camera hard disk after a crash and have managed to get most of the data using EasyRecovery Pro. The problem is now that all the data that I have recovered appear like File09.JPG with and image icon in windows XP, but the files can't be viewed in any JPEG viewer software. I suspect that the .JPG files are indeed folders, but I can't force windows XP the change the file type. Very Odd. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Hoo

  • Implementing my Entity System. Questions about some problems I have found.

    - by Notbad
Hi!, Well during this week I have deciding about implementation of my entity system. It is a big topic so it has been difficult to take one option from the whole. This has been my decision: 1) I don't have an entity class it is just an id. 2) I have systems that contain a list of components (the list is homegenous, I mean, RenderSystem will just have RenderComponents). 3) Compones will be just data. 4) There would be some kind of "entity prototypes" in a manager or something from we will create entity instances.Ideally they will define the type of components it has and initialization data. 5) Prototype code to create an entity (this is from the top of my head): int id=World::getInstance()->createEntity("entity template"); 6) This will notify all systems that a new entity has been created, and if the entity needs a component that the system handles it will add it to the entity. Ok, this are the ideas. Let's see if some can help with the problems: 1) The main problem is this templates that are sent to the systems in creation process to populate the entity with needed components. What would you use, an OR(ed) int?, a list of strings?. 2) How to do initialization for components when the entity has been created? How to store this in the template? I have thought about having a function in the template that is virtual and after entity is created an populated, gets the components and sets initialization values. 3) Don't you think this is a lot of work for just an entity creation?. Sorry for the long post, I have tried to expose my ideas and finding in order other could have a start beside exposing my problems. Thanks in advance, Notbad.

  • Can iTextSharp rasterize/export to JPEG or other image format?

    - by SkippyFire
I need to be able to export PDF's that I am creating to JPEG, so that users can have a screenshot/thumbnail of the end product, which is faster than opening the whole PDF. I am running this on an ASP.NET website running in Medium Trust in the Rackspace Mosso Cloud. I have yet to find a library that will either work in Medium trust, or in the case of ABC PDF, which works great locally, wont load in Mosso. Maybe Mosso has a custom trust level? I know that iTextSharp works on Mosso, but I haven't been able to figure how to "screenshot" a single page of a PDF, or export a page to JPEG. Is there anyone out there who has done this before?

  • How can I integrate graphs and JPEG images with RAVE Reports?

    - by JonDave of the Philippines
I really love RAVE Reports in creating multiple reports especially with formulas and accounting systems... but recently I am having problems with integrating JPEG Pictures and Graphs with my newly Delphi Language developed Little ERP System. I bought some JPEG Components but it seems problematic. I also experienced some irregularities with my RAVE Reports now. When I run my program then try to preview some reports, it seems to be running fine, but when I close the program, the EXE file is still in the taskbar. I need to ctrl-alt-delete first for me to use Report Previews normally. If I don't, RAVE REPORT ERROR message will appear everytime I click the PRINT button; it says "STREAM READ ERROR" even though I used to "FreeAndNil" to free the memory stream when Report Preview Form closes. When I tried to run the My Applications without previewing RAVE reports, the program closes perfectly. Any suggestions and recommendations will be an enormous help. Thank you.
