• Cannot delete podcast from iPod Touch

  I am having a problem with my iPod/iTunes where an episode of a single podcast cannot be deleted. The episode in question does not show up in iTunes or as being on the iPod when I drill down and look at the podcasts on the iPod in iTunes. It also does not play if I try to play it on the iPod; it just waits a second and skips to the next podcast. I have iTunes 9.2.0.61, my iPod has OS version 4 (although I was having this problem before I upgraded), and Windows 7 64bit. I would really prefer a solution that does not require me to completely wipe the iPod because I have a bunch of WiFi keys stored that I don't want to have to dig up again.

• Optimizing a shared buffer in a producer/consumer multithreaded environment

  I have some project where I have a single producer thread which writes events into a buffer, and an additional single consumer thread which takes events from the buffer. My goal is to optimize this thing for a single machine to achieve maximum throughput. I've tried with different BUF_SIZE values and got some speed-up. Additionaly, I've moved writepos before the buffer and readpos after the buffer to ensure that both variables are on different cache lines which resulted also in some speed. What I need is a speedup of about 400 %. Do you have any ideas how I could achieve this using things like padding etc?

  Hi, I have a compressed file in the disk, that a partitioned in blocks. I read a block from disk decompress it to memory and the read the data. It is possible to create a producer/consumer, one thread that recovers compacted blocks from disk and put in a queue and another thread that decompress and read the data? Will the performance be better? Thanks!

• Lock Free Queue -- Single Producer, Multiple Consumers

  Hello, I am looking for a method to implement lock-free queue data structure that supports single producer, and multiple consumers. I have looked at the classic method by Maged Michael and Michael Scott (1996) but their version uses linked lists. I would like an implementation that makes use of bounded circular buffer. Something that uses atomic variables? On a side note, I am not sure why these classic methods are designed for linked lists that require a lot of dynamic memory management. In a multi-threaded program, all memory management routines are serialized. Aren't we defeating the benefits of lock-free methods by using them in conjunction with dynamic data structures? I am trying to code this in C/C++ using pthread library on a Intel 64-bit architecture. Thank you, Shirish

  (sorry, i think my jargon is a bit off there, not sure) I'm trying to work out what's going on with my podcasts not downloading properly, to see whether it was my pod-catching software or the connection i tried doing a ping on the podcast URL e.g. www.abc.net.au/rn/podcast/feeds/ockham.xml and it failed (i got "could not find host"), it works for the first part of it though www.abc.net.au I can get to the xml page in a web browser though, and ping doesn't work on the podcasts which have been downloading right either.

• Referencing CDI producer method result in h:selectOneMenu

  I have a named session scoped bean CustomerRegistration which has a named producer method getNewCustomer which returns a Customer object. There is also CustomerListProducer class which produces all customers as list from the database. On the selectCustomer.xhtml page the user is then able to select one of the customers and submit the selection to the application which then simply prints out the last name of the selected customer. Now this only works when I reference the selected customer on the facelets page via #{customerRegistration.newCustomer}. When I simply use #{newCustomer} then the output for the last name is null whenever I submit the form. What's going on here? Is this the expected behavior as according to chapter 7.1 Restriction upon bean instantion of JSR-299 spec? It says: ... However, if the application directly instantiates a bean class, instead of letting the container perform instantiation, the resulting instance is not managed by the container and is not a contextual instance as defined by Section 6.5.2, “Contextual instance of a bean”. • Setting up podcasting for a non-tech user

  I have a user who wants to start making podcasts, but they only have basic skills when it comes to technology. So, I was trying to get a process together that would be easy for them to follow. To upload files (the mp3's and rss feed files), I have an explorer shortcut for their FTP space. To record the podcast, I was going to either use audacity or PodProducer. For the RSS feed, I was looking for a podcast RSS generator of some sort. In my search for this, I've come across a lot of dead links and a lot of paid tools, so I haven't come up with anything too useful. Is there a free, reliable webservice or windows-based tool available that folks like to use?

  Many of us have embraced the podcasting revolution enabled by rss feeds and podcatchers. Alot of sites now broadcast live streams of what is eventually edited into a podcast. In most cases listening to the live stream gets you the info several days sooner then the podcast. So I was wondering if anybody knows of a notification protocol / app that allows me to auto tune into certain streams when they go live, or based on a schedule. I imagine twitter could be used for the notification but It'd be better not to be tied to a proprietary service.   I am a big iPod user (especially podcasts). I have used iPod touch, iPod classic and iPod nano. I noticed that iTunes stops downloading podcasts that you no longer listen to and stops downloading them. Is there a way to force iTunes to download all episodes of podcasts irrespective of whether you listen to them or not? I am not interested in just clicking a episode to make iTunes think that I'm listening. I need some kind of programmatic work around or batch script that runs and updates all podcasts/episodes automatically.

  Hello, I'm looking for a way to use pthread rwlock structure with conditions routines in C++. I have two questions: First: How is it possible and if we can't, why ? Second: Why current POSIX pthread have not implemented this behaviour ? To understand my purpose, I explain what will be my use: I've a producer-consumer model dealing with one shared array. The consumer will cond_wait when the array is empty, but rdlock when reading some elems. The producer will wrlock when adding(+signal) or removing elems from the array. The benefit of using rdlock instead of mutex_lock is to improve performance: when using mutex_lock, several readers would block, whereas using rdlock several readers would not block.

• How to use Zune software to listen to podcasts with generic MP3 player?

  I listen to a bunch of podcasts - a great way to fill the otherwise mindless space of a daily commute. My MP3 player is a Transonic brand, appears on my computer as a generic storage device. I've been using iTunes to download the podcasts, and manually moving the files out of the disk folder onto my player, but this is pretty tedious. iTunes also fails to recognise that the files are gone and leaves them in the list. (Actually, iTunes for windows is pretty much a dog, but that's a different rant.) The Zune software is 99% of what I want in a podcast downloader - performs well, looks nice, downloads reliably and so on. Some features - like only downloading the next five unheard episodes of a podcast - are superb. However, if I manually move the files across to the MP3 player, the Zune software concludes that the file has never been downloaded, and downloads it again. This leads me to my question: What is a good way to use the Zune software to download podcasts for listening on a generic MP3 player? Are there any addons for the Zune software to make this easier? Registry hacks? Can I configure the Zune software to not download the same episode multiple times? Is there a way for the Zune software to populate my MP3 player directly, instead of having to copy files?

  I listen to a daily podcast that is about 4 hours long. I think it would be a cool project if I could come with some way to generate transcripts of it automatically. Is there any software that will "listen" to the mp3s and create text of what they are saying? I'm not very concerned with differentiating who is talking because I think that would be asking too much. There are 4 main people speaking and others less often.

  I recently bought a new computer, and installed iTunes 9 on it, mainly to subscribe to podcasts. All my regular podcasts are saved as subscriptions in iTunes om my old computer. Is there any way to save myself entering in all the subscriptions individually on my new computer, by maybe exporting the podcast list as an OPML file, or otherwise saving that list out of iTunes?
