  • How to display images from SD card in a GalleryView

    - by OceanBlue
I am trying to display all the images stored in SD card in a Gallery View. I have tried using the content provider (android.provider.MediaStore.images.Media class), but seem to be getting stuck at a point. Not sure if this is the way to go about it. Here is my code so far: String[] colsNeeded = new String[]{Media._ID, Media.TITLE}; Uri mMedia = Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI; //Create a cursor using the URI & column names needd Cursor c = managedQuery(mMedia, colsNeeded, null, null, Media.DATE_TAKEN + " ASC"); //What kind of adapter should I create here //that contains images from the cursor?? SpinnerAdapter sa = null; //This is the point I get stuck //Set the adapter of the gallery view Gallery galleryPetPhotos = (Gallery)findViewById(R.id.GalleryPetPhotos); galleryPetPhotos.setAdapter(sa); Just a nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

  • Recovering the deleted data from Android SD Card ?

    - by Nish
I am trying to make an Android application which would try to recover deleted content from the SD Card. How feasible it is ? I have following method in mind: 1) Since, the files are not actually deleted, can I access the file system to see files which has been marked to be overwritten. 2) Or will I have do header/footer file carving ? Is it possible from the application layer of android ? I am concerned about files stored on contiguous sectors and not the fragmented once. I want to do a basic file retrieval. Please let me know some resources which I can use to make this application ?

  • Programmitically accessing internal storage (not SD card) on Verizon HTC Droid Incredible (Android)

    - by tliebeck
Hello, I'm trying to find information on how to programmatically access the HTC Droid Incredible's supposed 8GB of internal storage. To determine the external storage (SD Card) location, I'm using android.os.Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(). I've not been able to find any corollary for internal phone storage. In examining HTC/Google Nexus One, Motorola Droid, and HTC Dream/G1 phones, there (as would be expected) does not appear to be any mount point for such arbitrary internal storage. On these phones the internal storage is divided amongst /data, /system, and /cache partitions. The Incredible's internal storage is certainly not going to be located in /system. /cache is also unlikely given that it is globally non-readable/non-executable. I'd read in reviews that the phone will still be limited to 512MB or so for apps, suggesting that it is not simply a subdirectory of /data. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I do not have access to a Droid Incredible unit myself, of course.

  • ReadyBoost in Windows 7

    - by Robert Koritnik
I've bought an SD card today for my phot frame, but when I inserted it into my notebook I saw I could use it for ReadyBoost. Some background I'm a .net developer, using VMs and developing web applications (and Sharepoint). I use an HP notebook machine with Core 2 Duo 2GHz + 4GB RAM + 320 7200 HD. I simultaneously run Visual Studio 2010 with some plugins SQL Server Firefox with at least 10 tabs Chrome with about 5 tabs IIS VM with Server 2008 machine Sharepoint and occasionally also Photoshop and some InDesign as well. So I don't let my machine have a break. :D Question If I buy myself some really fast SDHC card (like SanDisk 16GB Extreme 30MB/s - is there anything faster) and use it with my Windows 7 ReadyBoost, will I see any performance gain? Is it going to work something similar to Seagate's HybridDrive Momentus with 4GB of solid state drive? What could I actually expect if I do put this card into my machine? And what would be recommended size? Observations I guess redirecting page file to it would speed up the system. Some VM machines on it would probably run faster as well because they could run parallel to HD host system I guess. Am I right or wrong?

  • How can I debug user mode driver failures in Windows 8

    - by Tom
I have a 32 GB SD Card. Whenever I insert this card in to my newly upgraded Windows 8 laptop the OS stops responding normally. Metro Apps won't work. The system may or may not log in. Desktop apps may or may not be able to do things. When I remove the card and restart then all is fine. As soon as I put the card back in, the system starts misbehaving again. I've run Windows Update, so I have the latest drivers from Microsoft. This does not occur with the 8 GB cards I have. Unfortunately I only have one 32 GB card, so I can't test with others. From examining the system event log I've determined this is happening due to a user mode driver failure. How can I best debug this issue from here? How can I figure out which driver this is related to? Will there be a Dr. Watson crash dump somewhere? Details - System - Provider [ Name] Microsoft-Windows-DriverFrameworks-UserMode [ Guid] {2E35AAEB-857F-4BEB-A418-2E6C0E54D988} EventID 10110 Version 1 Level 1 Task 64 Opcode 0 Keywords 0x2000000000000000 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2012-10-29T00:51:57.532718300Z EventRecordID 40417 Correlation - Execution [ ProcessID] 1056 [ ThreadID] 3796 Channel System Computer thebrain - Security [ UserID] S-1-5-18 - UserData - UMDFHostProblem [ lifetime] {811E3DC4-FBC6-420B-ABCC-AD7505A36F3B} - Problem [ code] 3 [ detectedBy] 2 ExitCode 3 - Operation [ code] 259 Message 72448 Status 4294967295 Edit 1 So I tried using Debug View from SysInternals (you can get it here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896647.aspx). That gave me this information: which is not especially helpful. Then I tried connecting WinDbg to WUDFHost.exe (the process that seems to host user mode drivers) to see if it could catch the error. It didn't catch any exceptions as I'd hoped (which would point me to the cause of the crash at least). Here's the stack of one of the threads:

  • Should Exterrnal USB hard drive auto mount Ubuntu 12.04.01 LTS

    - by Chris Good
I want to have external USB hard drives automatically mounted when plugged in. I have 2 drives exactly the same except for volume label. They both have the same UUID. I want to be easily able to swap them as I'm using them for backups and want to keep 1 at home for off site backup. I've set up the /etc/fstab so they should mount at different places based on their volume label: /etc/fstab : LABEL=Passport1 /media/Passport1 ntfs defaults,windows_names,locale=en_US.utf8 0 0 LABEL=Passport2 /media/Passport2 ntfs defaults,windows_names,locale=en_US.utf8 0 0 blkid shows : ... /dev/sdc1: LABEL="Passport2" UUID="4E1AEA7B1AEA6007" TYPE="ntfs" /dev/sdd1: LABEL="Passport1" UUID="4E1AEA7B1AEA6007" TYPE="ntfs" They both mount automatically during reboot but do not mount when just plugged in to a running system. I've read lots of stuff about this, much of it is old so I'm not sure if it applies. I've read some stuff that says the mounts should happen automatically when plugged in, and lots of other stuff that says you have to install other software to make this happen, although much of it just seems to set up the fstab. What's the real story? Here is /var/log/syslog when drive is plugged in: Dec 14 11:22:58 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66221.300196] usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 6 using ehci_hcd Dec 14 11:22:58 ausyvutims1 mtp-probe: checking bus 1, device 6: "/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:11.0/0000:02:03.0/usb1/1-1" Dec 14 11:22:58 ausyvutims1 mtp-probe: bus: 1, device: 6 was not an MTP device Dec 14 11:22:58 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66221.656020] scsi7 : usb-storage 1-1:1.0 Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.661534] scsi 7:0:0:0: Direct-Access WD My Passport 0748 1016 PQ: 0 ANSI: 6 Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.666466] scsi 7:0:0:1: Enclosure WD SES Device 1016 PQ: 0 ANSI: 6 Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.667739] sd 7:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg3 type 0 Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.667913] ses 7:0:0:1: Attached Enclosure device Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.668047] ses 7:0:0:1: Attached scsi generic sg4 type 13 Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.678473] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] 1953458176 512-byte logical blocks: (1.00 TB/931 GiB) Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.687700] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] Write Protect is off Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.687705] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] Mode Sense: 47 00 10 08 Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.701076] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] No Caching mode page present Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.701081] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.738062] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] No Caching mode page present Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.738068] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.754558] sdc: sdc1 Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.792006] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] No Caching mode page present Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.792012] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 kernel: [66222.792016] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] Attached SCSI disk Dec 14 11:22:59 ausyvutims1 ata_id[16971]: HDIO_GET_IDENTITY failed for '/dev/sdc': Invalid argument Thanks for any help offered

  • Prevent auto mounting Android sdcard under Linux Mint

    - by BullShark
I recently obtained an older Android phone, so that I could test Android Apps on it. I've needed it because I have a Nexus 7 but not older Android versions, hardware, etc. to test on. I'm having a problem with it under Linux Mint with Cinnamon. When I plug the phone in, or remove and plug the sdcard from the phone back to it while the phone is plugged in, Linux automatically mounts the sdcard. This is a problem because once it is mounted under Linux, it dismounts from the phone running Android 2.3.5, and I can no longer test Android Apps I write that require the sdcard to be present, writable. I went to Menu System Tools System Settings System Details Removable Media, and it brings up this window. I have changed the settings to always "Ask what to do" on "Select how media should be handled". However, the sdcard still gets mounted and then I am asked how I want to open these files (media players, photo importers, file browser, etc.). If I click the checkbox for "Never prompt or start programs on media insertion", then the sdcard is mounted, and I am not asked how to open these files. Eject is just a noob word for Ubuntu users that means umount (unmount) like "Adminstrator" is another ubuntu noob word for the root user. And if I unmount the sdcard, the phone doesn't recognize it again until I take the sdcard out and plug it back in. The phone sees it for a brief moment until Linux Mint takes it over. There are 2 possible solutions and maybe more: 1) Prevent Linux from automounting sdcards some how 2) Tell Android not to allow the computer it is plugged into to take over the sdcard, HOW? Edit: I found out how to prevent the sdcard from being automatically mounted: Now it gets recognized by Linux: bullshark@beastlinux ~ $ dmesg | tail -n 25 [597212.218323] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] Attached SCSI removable disk [597212.218639] sr 21:0:0:1: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr2 [597212.218910] sr 21:0:0:1: Attached scsi generic sg7 type 5 [597217.139373] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] 3862528 512-byte logical blocks: (1.97 GB/1.84 GiB) [597217.140726] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] No Caching mode page present [597217.140735] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] Assuming drive cache: write through [597217.143595] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] No Caching mode page present [597217.143602] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] Assuming drive cache: write through [597217.152240] sde: sde1 [597389.751008] 4:2:1: cannot get freq at ep 0x84 [597390.238742] 4:2:1: cannot get freq at ep 0x84 [597624.903132] sde: detected capacity change from 1977614336 to 0 [597637.677763] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] 3862528 512-byte logical blocks: (1.97 GB/1.84 GiB) [597637.679616] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] No Caching mode page present [597637.679626] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] Assuming drive cache: write through [597637.682508] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] No Caching mode page present [597637.682515] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] Assuming drive cache: write through [597637.692758] sde: sde1 [597661.857979] sde: detected capacity change from 1977614336 to 0 [597688.775455] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] 3862528 512-byte logical blocks: (1.97 GB/1.84 GiB) [597688.776814] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] No Caching mode page present [597688.776823] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] Assuming drive cache: write through [597688.780055] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] No Caching mode page present [597688.780062] sd 21:0:0:0: [sde] Assuming drive cache: write through [597688.788639] sde: sde1 bullshark@beastlinux ~ $ However, the phone still unmounts the sdcard upon being detected by Linux. • Decoding bitmaps in Android with the right size

    - by hgpc
I decode bitmaps from the SD card using BitmapFactory.decodeFile. Sometimes the bitmaps are bigger than what the application needs or that the heap allows, so I use BitmapFactory.Options.inSampleSize to request a subsampled (smaller) bitmap. The problem is that the platform does not enforce the exact value of inSampleSize, and I sometimes end up with a bitmap either too small, or still too big for the available memory. From http://developer.android.com/reference/android/graphics/BitmapFactory.Options.html#inSampleSize: Note: the decoder will try to fulfill this request, but the resulting bitmap may have different dimensions that precisely what has been requested. Also, powers of 2 are often faster/easier for the decoder to honor. How should I decode bitmaps from the SD card to get a bitmap of the exact size I need while consuming as little memory as possible to decode it?

  • Write contents of custom View to large Image file on SD card

    - by JFortney
I have a class that extends View. I override the onDraw method and allow the user to draw on the screen. I am at the point where I want to save this view as an image. I Can use buildDrawingCache and getDrawingCache to create a bitmap that I can write to the SD card. However, the image is not good quality at a large size, it has jagged edges. Since I have a View and I use Paths I can transform all by drawing to a bigger size. I just don't know how to make the Canvas bigger so when I call getDrawingCache it doesn't crop all the paths I am just transformed. What is happening is I transform all my paths but when I write the Bitmap to file I am only getting the "viewport" of the actual screen size. I want something much bigger. Any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I have been reading the docs and books and am at a loss. Thanks Jon

  • Android Java writing text file to sd card

    I have a strange problem I've come across. My app can write a simple textfile to SD card and sometimes it works for some people but not for others and I have no idea why. Some people it force closes if they put some characters like "..." in it and such. I cannot seem to reproduce it as I've had no troubles but this is the code that handles it. Can anyone think of something that may lead to problems or a better to way to do it? public void generateNoteOnSD(String sFileName, String sBody){ try { File root = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(), "Notes"); if (!root.exists()) { root.mkdirs(); } File gpxfile = new File(root, sFileName); FileWriter writer = new FileWriter(gpxfile); writer.append(sBody); writer.flush(); writer.close(); Toast.makeText(this, "Saved", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } catch(IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); importError = e.getMessage(); iError(); } }

  • android logging sdcard

    - by Abhi Rao
Hello, With Android-Emulator I am not able to write/create a file on the SD Card (for logging). Here is what I have done so far - Run mksdcard 8192K C:\android-dev\emu_sdcard\emu_logFile - Create a new AVD, when assign emu_logFile to it so that when I view the AVD Details it says C:\android-dev\emu_sdcard\emu_logFile against the field "SD Card" - Here is the relevant code public class ZLogger { static PrintWriter zLogWriter = null; private static void Initialize() { try { File sdDir = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(); if (sdDir.canWrite()) { : File logFile = new File (sdDir, VERSION.RELEASE + "_" + ".log"); FileWriter logFileWriter = new FileWriter(logFile); zLogWriter = new PrintWriter(logFileWriter); zLogWriter.write("\n\n - " + date + " - \n"); } } catch (IOException e) { Log.e("ZLogger", "Count not write to file: " + e.getMessage()); } } sdDir.canWrite returns false - please note it not the exception from adb shell when I do ls I see sdcard as link to /mnt/sdcard. When I do ls -l /mnt here is what I see ls -l /mnt ls -l /mnt drwxr-xr-x root system 2010-12-24 03:41 asec drwx------ root root 2010-12-24 03:41 secure d--------- system system 2010-12-24 03:41 sdcard whereas if I go to the directory where I created emu_sdcard - I see a lock has been issued, as shown here C:dir android-dev\emu_sdcard Volume in drive C is Preload Volume Serial Number is A4F3-6C29 Directory of C:\android-dev\emu_sdcard 12/24/2010 03:41 AM . 12/24/2010 03:41 AM .. 12/24/2010 03:17 AM 8,388,608 emu_logFile 12/24/2010 03:41 AM emu_logFile.lock 1 File(s) 8,388,608 bytes 3 Dir(s) 50,347,704,320 bytes free I have looked at these and other SO questions Android Emulator sdcard push error: Read-only file system (2) Not able to view SDCard folder in the FileExplorer of Android Eclipse I have added the following to AndroidManifest.xml **uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" ** Please let me know your thoughts - what am I missing here? Why does canWrite return false? What should I do to add permissions to sdcard?

  • MP3 player mpman TS300 not recognized

    - by Nick Lemaire
I just received a mpman ts300 mp3 player for Christmas. But when I try to connect it to ubuntu (10.10) through usb it doesn't seem to be recognized. I searched for a linuxdriver but came up with nothing. I even tried installing mpman manager from the software center, but still the same problem... Has anybody got any ideas about how to fix this? Thank you edit: some additional information When I plug it in, it doesn't show up under /dev. And it is not listed in the result of 'lsusb' This is the output of 'dmesg' [19571.732541] usb 1-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 [19571.889154] scsi7 : usb-storage 1-4:1.0 [19572.883155] scsi 7:0:0:0: Direct-Access TS300 USB DISK 1.00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0 [19572.885856] sd 7:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0 [19572.887266] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] 7868416 512-byte logical blocks: (4.02 GB/3.75 GiB) [19573.012547] usb 1-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 [19573.292550] usb 1-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 [19573.572565] usb 1-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 [19573.725019] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] Test WP failed, assume Write Enabled [19573.725024] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [19573.728521] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk [19575.333015] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] 7868416 512-byte logical blocks: (4.02 GB/3.75 GiB) [19575.452547] usb 1-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 [19580.603253] usb 1-4: device descriptor read/all, error -110 [19580.722560] usb 1-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 [19595.842579] usb 1-4: device descriptor read/64, error -110 [19611.072656] usb 1-4: device descriptor read/64, error -110 [19611.302540] usb 1-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 [19616.332568] usb 1-4: device descriptor read/8, error -110 [19621.462692] usb 1-4: device descriptor read/8, error -110 [19621.692551] usb 1-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 [19626.722567] usb 1-4: device descriptor read/8, error -110 [19631.852802] usb 1-4: device descriptor read/8, error -110 [19631.962587] usb 1-4: USB disconnect, address 2 [19631.962587] sd 7:0:0:0: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery [19631.962840] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [19631.965104] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] READ CAPACITY failed [19631.965109] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] Result: hostbyte=DID_NO_CONNECT driverbyte=DRIVER_OK [19631.965112] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] Sense not available. • Files missing after copying from one sdcard to another using Ubuntu 12.04

    - by Abhi Kandoi
I have two Kingston sdcards 8GB and 32GB. The 8GB for HTC Sensation and 32GB for my Tablet (Chinese). I soon ran out of space on my phone and decided to swap the data between the sdcards. I copied the data of 32GB sdcard to my PC(with Ubuntu 12.04) deleted everything on the 32GB sdcard and copied data from the 8GB sdcard to the other sdcard. At last I copied the data from my PC to the 8GB sdcard(before this I deleted everything that was on it before). Now the problem is that the 8GB sdcard has the data exactly the same, but the 32GB sdcard has some missing data. All my photos(not copied or posted on Facebook) and Songs are lost. Please help as to what I can do to get my data back? I have Android Revolution HD (ICS 4.0.3) on my rooted HTC Sensation (India). I suspect it has something to do with my data loss.

  • Recovering a damaged microSDHC

    - by djechelon
I just bought from eBay a Kingston 32GB microSDHC that was advertised as defective. The seller said that there could be formatting problems or with transfer of large files. Unfortunately, when I got it, it was a total mess. My Nikon camera doesn't read it at all (OK, maybe it doesn't support 32GB) My Linux laptop doesn't mount it: can't read superblock The same laptop refuses to mkfs.msdos because it failed whilst writing reserved sector The same laptop, under Windows, doesn't read nor format the card HTC HD2 mounts the MMC, allows me to write via USB, but is unable to open the just written files OK, folks, now you would say I would have to go through Paypal complaint... that's not that easy. I consciously bought a half-price card that was known to show some defects, and Paypal complaints take time. Obviously, I can't accept somebody sold me a completely use-less computer decoration. So I'll keep it as last option. My question is Do you know a way, under either Linux or Windows, to thoroughly scan, test and possibly repair memory cards, even if I have to lose some percentage of space because of bad sectors? If I can keep at least half of the card intact it would certainly be fine. I used to do broken sector marking with hard disks in the past. I almost forgot: MONSTR:/home/djechelon # fsck /dev/mmcblk0p1 fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2 dosfsck 3.0.9, 31 Jan 2010, FAT32, LFN Read 512 bytes at 0:Input/output error
