  • Eclipse Javadoc tooltip help doesn't show classes' supertypes and interfaces

    - by Pooria
I'm talking about the tooltip that pops up when you hover your mouse over a class in your source (which also helps with intellisense and auto completion), which describes what a class/method/etc does. I find it very annoying that it doesn't show what superclass the class (being described) extends or what interfaces it implements. Is there a way to make eclipse show the additional information?

  • Passing BLOB/CLOB as parameter to PL/SQL function

    - by Ula Krukar
I have this procedure i my package: PROCEDURE pr_export_blob( p_name IN VARCHAR2, p_blob IN BLOB, p_part_size IN NUMBER); I would like for parameter p_blob to be either BLOB or CLOB. When I call this procedure with BLOB parameter, everything is fine. When I call it with CLOB parameter, I get compilation error: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'pr_export_blob' Is there a way to write a procedure, that can take either of those types as parameter? Some kind of a superclass maybe?

  • Flex: How do you list private attributes of a class?

    - by mensonge
Hi, I try to serialize objects with their private attributes, in Flex. The introspection API does not seem to allow it: "The describeType() method returns only public members. The method does not return private members of the caller's superclass or any other class where the caller is not an instance." Is there another way for an instance to know the name of its private members?

  • Where to put common setUp-code for differen testclasses?

    - by Benedikt
I have several different test classes that require that certain objects are created before those tests can be run. Now I'm wondering if I should put the object initialization code into a separate helper class or superclass. Doing so would surely reduce the amount of duplicate code in my test classes but it would also make them less readable. Is there a guideline or pattern how to deal with common setUp-code for unit tests?

  • Call overidden method in Dojo

    - by nomind
In dojo, one cannot call a overidden superclass method outside of the same method in the derived class (for which there is this.inherited(), other than that one can call using class_name.function_name.apply). This feature is no longer there because of some refactoring and dojo guys are not going to put it back because they are not convinced about a good enough case for this. Please read this mail thread for details. Isn't there a good enough case for this functionality? Why or why not?

  • Is null a class in java?

    - by Somerandomeguy
According to, http://www.freshvanilla.org:8080/display/www/Java+Interview+Questions Under, Which class is the superclass of every class? null seems to be the answer. I found that new Object().getClass().getSuperClass() verifies the answer as correct. But can null be considered a class? I see all primitive data types are represented as Class objects from java[dot]sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/lang/Class.html

  • [[alloc] init] as a factory method

    - by iter
I want to initialize an instance of one of the subclasses of a superclass depending on the arguments to init: [[Vehicle alloc] initWithItinerary: shortWay]; // returns a bicycle [[Vehicle alloc] initWithItinerary: longWay]; // returns a car I can't find examples of code like this. I wonder if this is not idiomatic in Objective C, or I simply am not looking in the right places.

  • AI agents with FSM: a question regarding this

    - by Prog
Finite State Machines implemented with the State design pattern are a common way to design AI agents. I am familiar with the State design pattern and know how to implement it. However I have a question regarding how this is used in games to design AI agents. Please consider a class Monster that represents an AI agent. Simplified it looks like this: class Monster{ State state; // other fields omitted public void update(){ // called every game-loop cycle state.execute(this); } public void setState(State state){ this.state = state; } // irrelevant stuff omitted } There are several State subclasses that implement execute() differently. So far classic State pattern. Here's my question: AI agents are subject to environmental effects and other objects communicating with them. For example an AI agent might tell another AI agent to attack (i.e. agent.attack()). Or a fireball might tell an AI agent to fall down. This means that the agent must have methods such as attack() and fallDown(), or commonly some message receiving mechanism to understand such messages. My question is divided to two parts: 1- Please say if this is correct: With an FSM, the current State of the agent should be the one taking care of such method calls - i.e. the agent delegates to the current state upon every event. Correct? Or wrong? 2- If correct, than how is this done? Are all states obligated by their superclass) to implement methods such as attack(), fallDown() etc., so the agent can always delegate to them on almost every event? Or is it done in some other way?

  • knowing all available entity types

    - by plofplof
I'm making a game where at some point the game will create enemies of random types. Each type of enemy available is defined on its own class derived from an enemy superclass. To do this, obviously the different types of enemies should be known. This is what I have thought of: Just make a list manually. Very simple to do, but I don't like it because I'll be adding more enemy types over time, so any time I add a new class I have to remember to update this (same if I remove an enemy). I would like some kind of auto-updating list. A completely component based system. There are no different classes for each enemy, but definitions of enemies in some file where all enemy types can be found. I really don't need that level of complexity for my game. I'm still using a component based model to some degree, but each Enemy type gets defined on its own class. Java Annotation processing. Give each enemy subclass an annotation like @EnemyType("whatever"), then code an annotation processor that writes in a file all available enemy types. Any time a new class is added the file gets updated after compilation. This gives me a feeling of failure even if its a good solution, it's very dependant on Java, so it means I cant think of a general design good for any kind of language. Also I think that this would be too much work for something so simple. I would like to see comments on these ideas and other possible solutions Thanks

  • Why won't my UISearchDisplayController fire the didSelectRowAtIndexPath moethod?

    - by John Wells
I am having an odd problem when searching a UITableView using a UISearchDisplayController. The UITableViewController is a subclass of another UITableViewController with a working didSelectRowAtIndexPath method. Without searching the controller handles selections fine, sending the superclass a didSelectRowAtIndexPath call, but if I select a cell when searching the superclass receives nothing but the cell is highlighted. Below is the code from my subclass. @implementation AdvancedViewController @synthesize searchDisplayController, dict, filteredList; - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Programmatically set up search bar UISearchBar *mySearchBar = [[UISearchBar alloc] init]; mySearchBar.delegate = self; [mySearchBar setAutocapitalizationType:UITextAutocapitalizationTypeNone]; [mySearchBar sizeToFit]; self.tableView.tableHeaderView = mySearchBar; // Programmatically set up search display controller searchDisplayController = [[UISearchDisplayController alloc] initWithSearchBar:mySearchBar contentsController:self]; [self setSearchDisplayController:searchDisplayController]; [searchDisplayController setDelegate:self]; [searchDisplayController setSearchResultsDataSource:self]; // Parse data from server NSData * jsonData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:url]]; NSArray * items = [[NSArray alloc] initWithArray:[[CJSONDeserializer deserializer] deserializeAsArray:jsonData error:nil]]; // Init variables dict = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; listIndex = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; fullList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; filteredList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; // Get each item and format it for the UI for(NSMutableArray * item in items) { // Get the first letter NSString * firstKey = [[[item objectAtIndex:0] substringWithRange:NSMakeRange(0,1)] uppercaseString]; // Put symbols and numbers in the same section if ([[firstKey stringByTrimmingCharactersInSet:[[NSCharacterSet letterCharacterSet] invertedSet]] isEqualToString:@""]) firstKey = @"#"; // If there isn't a section with this key if (![listIndex containsObject:firstKey]) { // Add the key to the index for faster access (because it's already sorted) [listIndex addObject:firstKey]; // Add the key to the unordered dictionary [dict setObject:[NSMutableArray array] forKey:firstKey]; } // Add the object to the dictionary [[dict objectForKey:firstKey] addObject:[[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithObjects:item forKeys:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"name", @"url", nil]]]; // Add the object to the list for simple searching [fullList addObject:[[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithObjects:item forKeys:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"name", @"url", nil]]]; } filteredList = [NSMutableArray arrayWithCapacity:[fullList count]]; } #pragma mark - #pragma mark Table view data source // Custom method for object oriented data access - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView dataForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath withKey:(NSString *)key { return (NSString *)((tableView == self.searchDisplayController.searchResultsTableView) ? • Python: Inheritance of a class attribute (list)

    - by Sano98
Hi everyone, inheriting a class attribute from a super class and later changing the value for the subclass works fine: class Unit(object): value = 10 class Archer(Unit): pass print Unit.value print Archer.value Archer.value = 5 print Unit.value print Archer.value leads to the output: 10 10 10 5 which is just fine: Archer inherits the value from Unit, but when I change Archer's value, Unit's value remains untouched. Now, if the inherited value is a list, the shallow copy effect strikes and the value of the superclass is also affected: class Unit(object): listvalue = [10] class Archer(Unit): pass print Unit.listvalue print Archer.listvalue Archer.listvalue[0] = 5 print Unit.listvalue print Archer.listvalue Output: 10 10 5 5 Is there a way to "deep copy" a list when inheriting it from the super class? Many thanks Sano

  • Checking attribute exists in JSP

    - by Javi
Hello, I have some classes which extends a superclass, and in the JSP I want to show some attributes of these classes. I only want to make one JSP, but I don't know in advance if the object has an attribute or not. So I need a JSTL expression or a tag which checks that the object I pass has this attribute (similar to in operator in javascript, but in the server). <c:if test="${an expression which checks if myAttribute exists in myObject}"> <!-- Display this only when myObject has the atttribute "myAttribute" --> <!-- Now I can access safely to "myAttribute" --> ${myObject.myAttribute} </C:if> How can I get this? Thanks.

  • ANTLR JavaScript Target

    - by kunalsawlani
Hello, I have been using ANTLR to generate a parser + tree grammar for a mark up language with Java target which works fine. Now I am trying to get the target in JavaScript to use it in my web browser. However, I have not been able to locate any good documentation on how to go about doing this. I am using eclipse with ANTLR IDE, and when i specify the language as JavaScript, I get the following errors. Multiple markers at this line (10): internal error: group JavaScript does not satisfy interface ANTLRCore: mismatched arguments on these templates [treeParser(grammar, name, scopes, tokens, tokenNames, globalAction, rules, numRules, bitsets, labelType, ASTLabelType, superClass, members, filterMode)] (10): internal error: java.util.NoSuchElementException: no such attribute: filterMode in template context [treeParser] If anyone could help me out with this or point me to some material which I could read about the JavaScript target with ANTLR, it would be great. Thanks

  • JPA @TableGenerator shared between multiple entities

    - by Mauricio
Hi Guys, I have a 'dog' Entitiy with an @Id and a @TableGenerator ... @TableGenerator(table = "seq", name = "dog_gen", pkColumnName = "seq_name", valueColumnName="seq_val") @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.TABLE, generator = "dog_gen") private Long id; ... Is there a way to reuse the same table generator (dog_gen) in other entity? I want to keep the same id sequence in two independent Entities, say dog=1, dog=2, dog=3, cat=4, cat=5, dog=6 and so on... Both entities don't share a common superclass to implement some kind of inheritance with the id property. If I add the @GeneratedValue( generator="dog_gen") on my cat entity, omitting the @TableGenerator declaration throws an Exception saying it can't find the generator when starting the context. • Using malloc/free in Objective-C object

    - by Itamar Katz
I have a class AudioManager with a member of type AudioBufferList *. (This is a struct declared in the CoreAudio framework). Since AudioBufferList is not a NSObject, I cannot retain it, so I have to alloc/free it (correct me if I'm wrong). My question is, where is the 'right' place to free it? Currently I am doing it in the dealloc method of AudioManager. If I understand correctly, this method is invoked automatically once the release message is sent to the instance of AudioManager --- is that true? Is there any other recommended practice regarding using alloc/free on non-objects members of Objective-C objects? Edit: From Apples documentation: Subclasses must implement their own versions of dealloc to allow the release of any additional memory consumed by the object—such as dynamically allocated storage for data or object instance variables owned by the deallocated object. After performing the class-specific deallocation, the subclass method should incorporate superclass versions of dealloc through a message to super: Which makes things a little bit clearer - but more insights are appreciated.

  • RuntimeException: Could not start Selenium session: Internal Server Error

    - by user79685
I am trying to detect a midair collision problem (simultaneous editin) using selenium. So I start a selenium session A with following (Super Class) selenium = new MASSelenium(serverHost, serverPort, *iexplore, browserURL); selenium.start(); selenium.open("index.cgi"); then I try starting a different selenium session B pointing to a different browser from the superclass (Sub Class): selenium2 = new MASSelenium(getServerHost(), getServerPort(), *firefox, getBrowserURL()); selenium2.start(); selenium2.open("index.cgi"); It works fine on my local machine (behaves as expected) but then when i run this same test on a remote machine (using bamboo build tool), i get this exception: java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not start Selenium session: Internal Server Error at com.thoughtworks.selenium.DefaultSelenium.start(DefaultSelenium.java:89) at gov.baba.arc.mas.selenium.tests.SimultaneousEditingConflictDetected.setUp(SimultaneousEditingConflictDetected.java:78) Caused by: com.thoughtworks.selenium.SeleniumException: Internal Server Error at com.thoughtworks.selenium.HttpCommandProcessor.throwAssertionFailureExceptionOrError(HttpCommandProcessor.java:97) at com.thoughtworks.selenium.HttpCommandProcessor.getCommandResponseAsString(HttpCommandProcessor.java:168) at com.thoughtworks.selenium.HttpCommandProcessor.executeCommandOnServlet(HttpCommandProcessor.java:104) at com.thoughtworks.selenium.HttpCommandProcessor.doCommand(HttpCommandProcessor.java:86) Any idea why this is happening?

  • How can I stub out a call to super in a imported Java class in JRuby for testing

    - by Doug Chew
I am testing Java classes with RSpec and JRuby. How can I stub out a call to super in an imported Java class in my RSpec test? For example: I have 2 Java classes: public class A{ public String foo() { return "bar"; } } public class B extends A public String foo() { // B code return super.foo(); } } I am just trying to test the code in B.foo and not the code in A.foo with JRuby. How can I stub out the call to the super class method in my RSpec test? rspec test: java_import Java::B describe B do it "should not call A.foo" do # some code to stub out A.foo b = B.new b.foo.should_not == "bar" end end I have tried including a module with a new foo method in B's class hoping that it would hit the module method first but B still makes a call to A. The inserting module technique works in Ruby but not with JRuby and imported Java classes. Any other ideas to stub out the superclass method to get my RSpec test to pass?

  • Python: Why can't I use `super` on a class?

    - by cool-RR
Why can't I use super to get a method of a class's superclass? Example: Python 3.1.3 >>> class A(object): ... def my_method(self): pass >>> class B(A): ... def my_method(self): pass >>> super(B).my_method Traceback (most recent call last): File "<pyshell#2>", line 1, in <module> super(B).my_method AttributeError: 'super' object has no attribute 'my_method' (Of course this is a trivial case where I could just do A.my_method, but I needed this for a case of diamond-inheritance.) According to super's documentation, it seems like what I want should be possible. This is super's documentation: (Emphasis mine) super() - same as super(__class__, <first argument>) super(type) - unbound super object super(type, obj) - bound super object; requires isinstance(obj, type) super(type, type2) - bound super object; requires issubclass(type2, type) [non-relevant examples redacted]

  • FileInputStream negative skip

    - by Peter Štibraný
I'm trying to find more about history of FileInputStream.skip(negative) operation. According to InputStream documentation: If n is negative, no bytes are skipped. It seems that implementation of FileInputStream from Sun used to throw IOException instead, which is now also documented in Javadoc: If n is negative, an IOException is thrown, even though the skip method of the InputStream superclass does nothing in this case. I just tried that, and found that FileInputStream.skip(-10) did in fact return -10! It didn't threw exception, it didn't even return 0, it returned -10. (I've tried with Java 1.5.0_22 from Sun, and Java 1.6.0_18 from Sun). Is this a known bug? Why hasn't it been fixed, or why documentation is kept the way it is? Can someone point me to some discussion about this issue? I can't find anything.
