• Using XFCE4 with awesome

  When I got tired of using the standard XFCE window manager, xfwm, I simply installed openbox and selected "XFCE/Openbox" session in the GDM login screen. This was very convenient because I didn't want the plain Openbox session in which there are no network-manager, no panels, nothing. Now I have installed awesome: I really like the idea of tiling window managers. But after I launched it, everything went wrong. Absence of XFCE panels isn't anything bad, but subpixel-aliased fonts were somehow turned on, and that was really awful. I tried to login in XFCE, kill openbox/xfwm and start awesome, but that didn't worked: xfce4-session keeps restarting it's predefined WM, and killing it kills the whole X session too. And I didn't found the configuration for a dropdown list in GDM either. How can I start XFCE session with awesome as a WM?

• Dreamweaver CS5 - Have Design Window as a Panel?

  I've been looking around on the dreamweaver interface, and I'm trying to get my design window as an external panel. Reason is, I have a dual monitor system, and I would like to have the main window (where you can have both code/split/design) on my main screen, but with the code selected, and a design view on my secondary monitor. I'm assuming this can't be done, although I have noticed you can have your code as an external panel (Code Inspector). Would like to hear your input. Thanks

• Modal Popup Extender panel height width

  I have a ajax asp.net modalpopupextender, I wont when I desplay popup, the popup cover all the browser window. The popup display a panel ane is inside the form not other container. • I just updated to 12.04 from 11.10 and now the Unity bar is very sluggish and even the menus do not show on the panel

  Like the title says, I just upgraded to 12.04, I know it is only beta but I'm having problems with the Unity bar and the panel with the menus. First the Unity bar is acting very sluggish..I really don't know how to explain it. Also with the menu at the top, it keeps a strange little black bar on everything, even across my tabs in Firefox, it also doesn't let me see any of the menus, well they flicker and you sort of have to guess where everything is. I'm at a loss, I've already ran updates a couple of times to see if I missed something. I really hope I don't have to completely redo my whole Ubuntu setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi All, I have a MDI child Form which displays items that are already in the database. I use a datagridview (PostedItemsDataGrid) to display the items... I also have a Button which enables user to edit the line selected in the datagridview. There are also other controls on the form other than the two controls specified. I use a panel (Name : UpdateItemsPanel) containing various controls to edit the item selected... I want to display this form Modally... ie... When this form is active, user should not be allowed to access any controls other than the controls in the UpdateItemsPanel. I tried the following but got into other problems... If you can help me in solve either the main or one of these problems, it would be great help. I tried putting the contents of UpdateItemsPanel in a seperate form and show it as modal... The trouble was showing the update form as modal, blocks all other MDI forms also. Other problem with this 1 is, I need to position the modalform just below the PostedItemsDataGrid... I'm not sure How to do it... I tried putting the other controls in a panel and disabling the panel when updatepanel is displayed. This ofcourse, makes the (PostedItemsDataGrid) disabled and hence unable to scroll... Could you please help.... Please let me know, incase you need more info...

  I have the following controls hierarchy: Form Panel (AutoSize = true, AutoSizeMode = GrowAndShrink, Dock = Top) FlowLayoutPanel (AutoSize = true, AutoSizeMode = GrowAndShrink, Dock = Top) Control1, Control2, Control3, Control4, ... FlowLayoutPanel (AutoSize = true, AutoSizeMode = GrowAndShrink, Dock = Top) Control1, Control2, Control3, Control4, ... Here is how it layouts in various sizes: Fully visible all 8 buttons, but the Panel forgot to shrink The first FlowLayoutPanel are fully visible, but the second is only half visible, button8 is missing The first FlowLayoutPanel are fully visible, but the second is only half visible, button7 and button8 are missing The first FlowLayoutPanel are fully visible, but the second is only quarter visible, button 6, button7 and button8 are missing As you see, i'm not satisfied from this behavior. Is there something i can do to get all this work?

I know that I have to create UserControl, where I can place my two panels. Then I want to insert my component into the form. But I don't know how to create behavior where I can add other components (such as buttons, labels, etc.) only into second panel in my component. Could anyone help me with creating this component? • Regressing panel data in SAS.

  Hey Guys, thanks to your help I succesfully managed all my databases! I am now looking at a panel data set on which I have to regress. Since I only started my Phd this semester together with the econometrics courses I am still new to many statistic applications and regression methods. I want to do a simple regression as in Y = x1 x2 x3 etc, now I already browsed through some literature and found that for panel data it's common to do a fixed effects regression. Also, my Y variable only has positive values so I was thinking in the direction of a Tobit model? I'm doing some research concerning the coverage of analysts in the financial business. My independent variable is the coverage of analysts on a certain firm, so per observation i have 1 analyst and 1 firm, together with different characteristics(market cap and betas etc) of the firm. All this data is monthly. As coverage cannot become negative (only 0) I was thinking of a Tobit model? Do you guys have any ideas what would be a good regression method? Or have some good sources (e books, written books, through university I have access to almost anything concerning my field of work) of information (cause I do have to learn these things for future research)? • Trouble with custom WPF Panel-derived class

  I'm trying to write a custom Panel class for WPF, by overriding MeasureOverride and ArrangeOverride but, while it's mostly working I'm experiencing one strange problem I can't explain. In particular, after I call Arrange on my child items in ArrangeOverride after figuring out what their sizes should be, they aren't sizing to the size I give to them, and appear to be sizing to the size passed to their Measure method inside MeasureOverride. Am I missing something in how this system is supposed to work? My understanding is that calling Measure simply causes the child to evaluate its DesiredSize based on the supplied availableSize, and shouldn't affect its actual final size. • unexplained spacing in horizontal panel in GWT

  What is panel-test-applets for?? I don't know. But if I want to know I type: $ whatis panel-test-applets The answer is: panel-test-applets (1) - display installed applets I have the man page too, and I can read it: $ man panel-test-applets But there is no program with that name. Maybe the command is not very useful, but is its man page more useful? Does someone know how to install that program or what is its man page for when you cannot execute the program? I can't even execute the command: $ panel-test-applets nor $ panel-test-applets --help which is the only thing its man page talks about!!

• How do I customize Alt+Tab behaviour?

  GOAL: I would like to make the little menu that pops up when I press Alt+Tab to gain the ability to jump to a particular window by pointing my mouse at one of the icons. This is the behaviour that my Mac OSX laptop has. The Situation I use Xfce, with the default windows manager (XFwm). I currently have Ubuntu 10.04 and 11.10, although I plan on updating both to XUbuntu 12.04 once the dust settles (probably mid-may?). (Clarification, for my current setup, I installed Ubuntu, then added xfce manually after the fact). So, a series of related questions. How do I set this up? (If this is not possible, please answer the following questions to help me learn) Is the Alt+Tab a function of the desktop environment, or the windows manager, or some other piece? (IE if I switch to using some other tool, could I potentially get this) Are there any customizations that are available either from settings or add-on applications that would allow me to change the behaviour of that menu?

• Ubuntu always freezes on a friend's machine

  I am posting this on my friend's behalf. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my friend's computer but it continuously froze, no desktop effects worked, and it was frankly unusable. I thought this might be an issue with Unity and how it interacts with his hardware, so I tried several other desktop environments on his machine. These include KDE, Xfce, and GNOME. The problems persisted regardless of the desktop environment. I would like to note that he dual boots his system with Windows 7. Even there no desktop effects work but the system is reasonably stable. The following screenshots describe some of his system information (He is running Xfce at this time): 1: 2: Card information: intel corporation 82G33/G31 integrated graphics controller (rev02). What is the issue and how can it be solved? Please let me know if I should add any more information. Thank you.

• jQuery - growlUI and ASP Update Panel Postback Problem

  I am using the jQuery blockUI plugin's growlUI to display a return status message to the user when returning from an async postback from an update panel. What happens is after returning and displaying the growl notification, any further postbacks seem to be broken and the app just spins. I am using the ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock method to register the script. and calling the growl UI method in javascript with $.growlUI('Notification', 'Message'); There are no javascript errors being displayed.

• Wicket : Can a Panel or Component react on a form submit without any boilerplate code?

  I am currently evaluating Wicket and I am trying to figure out how things work. I have a question regarding form submit and panels (or other components). Imagine a custom wicket panel which contains a text field, doing as-you-type validation using ajax. This panel is added to a form. How can the Panel react a form submit (let's say because javascript/ajax is unavailable)? I am currently only aware of one solution: calling a panel's method inside the Form onSubmit() method. But this seems not like a "reusable" approach here, because I have to add boilerplate code to every form's onSubmit() which contains the panel (and every developer which use the panel must know this). So here comes my question: Is there any way that a Panel/Component can "detect" a form submit in some way? Or is there any other solution beside this? Thank you.

• How to Add Control Panel to “My Computer” in Windows 7 or Vista

  Back in the Windows XP days, you could easily add Control Panel to My Computer with a simple checkbox in the folder view settings. Windows 7 and Vista don’t make this quite as easy, but there’s still a way to get it back. To make this tweak, we’ll be doing a quick registry hack, but there’s a downloadable version provided as well. Manual Registry Tweak to Add Control Panel Open up regedit.exe through the start menu search or run box, and then browse down to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace Now that you’re there, you’ll need to right-click and create a new key… If you want to add the regular Control Panel view, with the categories, you’ll need to use one GUID as the name of the key. If you want the icon view instead, you can use the other key. Here they are: Category View:  {26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683} Icon View: {21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} Once you’re done, it should look like this: Now over in the Computer view, just hit the F5 key to refresh the panel, and you should see the new icon pop up in the list: Now when you click on the icon you’ll be taken to Control Panel. If you didn’t know how to change the view before, you can use the drop-down box on the right-hand side to switch between Category and icon view.
