    Just wondering if anybody can run/compile application for Sun Java Realtime system on a VM such as VMWare or on the Cloud such as on Amazon EC2 ? I know it is not ideal running Realtime java on a virtualized infrastructure, but it makes things easier. (Otherwise I just have to install SLES SP2 on physical hardware.)

It needs to store a few GB of data and SQL Azure is too expensive for me, so I'll use Azure tables in the cloud version. Can you recommend a storage solution, which will run on standalone servers and have an API and behavior similar to Azure tables? From what I've seen Server AppFabric does not include Tables. TIA

  • MySQL is killing the server IO.

    I manage a fairly large/busy vBulletin forums (running on gigenet cloud), the database is ~ 10 GB (~9 milion posts, ~60 queries per second), lately MySQL have been grinding the disk like there's no tomorrow according to iotop and slowing the site. The last idea I can think of is using replication, but I'm not sure how much that would help and worried about database sync. I'm out of ideas, any tips on how to improve the situation would be highly appreciated. Specs : Debian Lenny 64bit ~12Ghz (6x2GHz) CPU, 7520gb RAM, 160gb disk. Kernel : 2.6.32-4-amd64 mysqld Ver 5.1.54-0.dotdeb.0 for debian-linux-gnu on x86_64 ((Debian)) Other software: vBulletin 3.8.4 memcached 1.2.2 PHP 5.3.5-0.dotdeb.0 (fpm-fcgi) (built: Jan 7 2011 00:07:27) lighttpd/1.4.28 (ssl) - a light and fast webserver PHP and vBulletin are configured to use memcached.     Hi There, Does anybody know what is the best way to secure bash scripts. I have a script which creates database and source code backup and ftp it to other server. And login/password for destination ftp are plain text. I need somehow encrypt it or hide it in case of website hacking. Or should i create script written on C to create bash file then run it and delete ? Thanks. Thanks for the answers and I am sorry, i wasn't clear enough. I would like to clarify my question in the following items. We are storing the data in Rackspace Cloud files. We can't pull as Cloud files doesn't allow you run a script. We can write the script to run on Server A and pull FTP and MySQL data on servers B, C, D, etc. And we want to protect the passwords on A from the situation where A is hacked. Can we compile our script file to hide them? Thanks

  • AWS own email domain and some generic questions

    I'm getting started with Amazon Web Services and I have a few question I'm not sure about. As every (company) webpage I want to use an "[email protected]" email adress, but how is that done? I looked up at godaddy.com (for domain registration), the offer me an email adress like I want, but for 3 dollars per month. Is this possible with AWS? Because at AWS you have just a complex domain which is not very userfriendly or serious. Also I want to host my dynamic webpage on the amazon cloud, but I'm not sure if I'm doing that right. I've read many guides, and all I know is that I have to purchase a Elastic Compute Cloud, and a Simple Storage Service... and every guide is working with the basic linux package, why not Windows? Is it more expensive? I just want to host a mySQL Server for the dynamic webpage, which is reached over a normal domain. And one last question, if I sign up for an AWS account it asks me for an email account. But I found it a little bit unserious to write there my free-webmailer-adress... How is it done the normal way?     I need to automate the provisioning of a cloud instance (running Fedora 17) for which the following initial facts are true: I have ssh-key based access to a remote user (cloud) That user has password-free root access via sudo. Manual configuration is as simple as logging in and running sudo su - and having at it, but I would like to fully automate this process. The trick is that the system defaults to having the requiretty option enabled for sudo, which means that an attempt to do something like this: ssh remotehost sudo yum -y install puppet Will fail: sudo: sorry, you must have a tty to run sudo I am working around this right now by first pushing over a small Python script that will run a command on a pseudoterminal: import os import sys import errno import subprocess pid, master_fd = os.forkpty() if pid == 0: # child process: now that we're attached to a # pty, run the given command. os.execvp(sys.argv[1], sys.argv[1:]) else: while True: try: data = os.read(master_fd, 1024) except OSError, detail: if detail.errno == errno.EIO: break if not data: break sys.stdout.write(data) os.wait() Assuming that this is named pty, I can then run: ssh remotehost ./pty sudo yum -y install puppet This works fine, but I'm wondering if there are solutions already available that I haven't considered. I would normally think about expect, but it's not installed by default on this system. screen can do this in a pinch, but the best I came up with was: screen -dmS sudo somecommand ...which does work but eats the output. Are there any other tools available that will allocate a pseudoterminal for me that are going to be generally available?

  • Seg Fault when using std::string on an embedded Linux platform

    Hi, I have been working for a couple of days on a problem with my application running on an embedded Arm Linux platform. Unfortunately the platform precludes me from using any of the usual useful tools for finding the exact issue. When the same code is run on the PC running Linux, I get no such error. In the sample below, I can reliably reproduce the problem by uncommenting the string, list or vector lines. Leaving them commented results in the application running to completion. I expect that something is corrupting the heap, but I cannot see what? The program will run for a few seconds before giving a segmentation fault.
