  • How to install Opera Browser?

    I am trying to install opera browser from the terminal. I downloaded the 'debian' installer because it didn't show up in software center. It completely destroyed my software center - it is frozen and I have no idea how to fix (I have a different thread for that though). Can I use this thing called synaptic package manager to install Opera? or am I stuck with Firefox? How do I install Opera Browser?

  • Is it possible to use mac trackpad gestures on a linux virtualbox? (macbook pro)

    Specifically, I would just love to use the trackpad to do "three finger swipes" and switch between workspaces, that would just be slick as hell. I imagine this might require a plugin or some such thing, in addition to the disabling of the underlying mac os's responding to the gestures, which is what it currently does. This might be impossible. PS/FYI: I am running ubuntu, but I imagine this might apply to debian builds as well.

  • Still prompted for a password after adding SSH public key to a server

    I'm attempting to setup a git repository on my Dreamhost web server by following the "Setup: For the Impatient" instructions here. I'm having difficulty setting up public key access to the server. After successfully creating my public key, I ran the following command: cat ~/.ssh/[MY KEY].pub | ssh [USER]@[MACHINE] "mkdir ~/.ssh; cat >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys" ...replacing the appropriate placeholders with the correct values. Everything seemed to go through fine. The server asked for my password, and, as far as I can tell, executed the command. There is indeed a ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file on the server. The problem: When I try to SSH into the server, it still asks for my password. My understanding is that it shouldn't be asking for my password anymore. What am I missing?     Here's a description of my build (simple) Processor: AMD Phenom II x6 1090t Ram: 16gb 1333 mhz Board: TA990FXE Video Card : HD 6870 HDD Ubuntu is installed on: 320gb caviar blue 7200rpm That should be sufficient enough to diagnose this. Yes I did install the AMD video drivers recommended by Ubuntu. Programs take 2+ seconds to load, and I really don't tolerate that...Windows 7 loads programs as fast as my hdd allows Unless this is how Ubuntu is meant to work...then I'll just go back to Debian command-line.
