• WSDL first for existing service layer

  I am working on an existing Java project with a typical services - dao setup for which only a webapplication was available. My job is to add webservices on top of the services layer, but the webservices have their own functional analysis and datamodel. The functional analyses ofcource focuses on what is possible in the different service methods. As good practice demands, we used the WSDL first strategy and generated JAXB bound Java classes and a SEI for the webservices. After having implemented the webservices partially, we noticed a 70% match between the datamodel. This resulted in writing converters which take the webservice JAXB classes and map them with the service layer classes. Customer customer = new Customer(); customer.setName(wsCustomer.getName()); customer.setFirstName(wsCustomer.getFirstName(); .. This is a very obvious example, some other mappings where little more complicated. Can anyone give his best practices, experiences, solutions to this kind of situations? • Combining two data sets and plotting in matlab

  I am doing experiments with different operational amplifier circuits and I need to plot my measured results onto a graph. I have two data sets: freq1 = [.1 .2 .5 .7 1 3 4 6 10 20 35 45 60 75 90 100]; %kHz Vo1 = [1.2 1.6 1.2 2 2 2.4 14.8 20.4 26.4 30.4 53.6 68.8 90 114 140 152]; %mV V1 = 19.6; Acm = Vo1/(1000*V1); And: freq2 = [.1 .5 1 30 60 70 85 100]; %kHz Vo1 = [3.96 3.96 3.96 3.84 3.86 3.88 3.88 3.88]; %V V1 = .96; Ad = Vo1/(2*V1); (I would show my plots but apparently I need more reps for that) I need to plot the equation, CMRR vs freq: CMRR = 20*log10(abs(Ad/Acm)); The size of Ad and Acm are different and the frequency points do not match up, but the boundaries of both of these is the same, 100Hz to 100kHz (x-axis). On the line of CMRR, Matlab says that Ad and Acm matrix dimensions do not agree. How I think I would solve this is using freq1 as the x-axis for CMRR and then taking approximated points from Ad according to the value on freq1. Or I could do function approximations of Ad and Acm and then do the divide operator on those. I do not know how I would code up this two ideas. Any other ideas would helpful, especially simpler ones. • Somewhat lost with jquery + php + json

Edit I did what you suggested and it prints the data now thank you very much =) however, I was wondering, how can I send the data to the "data:" part in jQuery so it takes it from let's say user input, also I was checking the php documentation and it says I'm allowed to write something like: json_encode($a,JSON_HEX_TAG|JSON_HEX_APOS|JSON_HEX_QUOT|JSON_HEX_AMP) however, if I do that I get an error saying that json_encode accepts 1 parameter and I'm giving 2...any idea why? I'm using php 5.2

• How to display video on html page in firefox

  I did looked at this question, but the asker didn't got any reply. Still, I'm giving it a try. I want to embed a video file on a html page. The code works fine on IE but doesn't work on firefox. • Is it "right" to translate error messages?

  This is somehow subjective depending on the target translation language, but bear with me for a sec. I have recently been involved in a translation project. The goal was to translate the strings of an MVC framework to the Greek language. 70% of the language strings of the framework where translated, however 30% where intentionally left out. The decision was that we will not translate error messages aimed towards the developer of the application. The reasoning behind this (in short) was: are aimed towards designers/programmers. Programmers ( and even designers :) ) should have a basic understanding of English, at least enough so they can search on it on Google if they do not know what it means. (racist?) are aimed towards the developer and in a perfect world should not be displayed to the end user of the application as they concern the inner workings of the web application itself. i.e "You must set the database name in your database config file." and perhaps most importantly, they make the life of the developer harder when he tries to get more information/help regarding the error. For example the above error yields 8 results in Google (in quotes), whereas its Greek translation yields exactly 0. I know that this depends on the popularity of the target translation language and the application itself. For example I'm guessing that there are is vast amount of documentation regarding German SAP error messages (i know, i know, SAP IS German, but you get the point), as opposed to Greek Error Messages documentation regarding random application X which has about 500 installations worldwide. So to summarize: When you develop language translation packs for your applications do you translate error messages? Do you only do for predominant languages like English/Spanish/German/French? Or do you live them intact? I'm not looking for the "right" or "correct" answer, I'm looking for a "best-practices" answer, or if this problem is defined in any "official" standard/policy that you have had experience with.

• Html.RadioButton group defaulting to 0

  Hi A default value of 0 is creeping into a Surveys app I am developing, for no reason that I can see. The problem is as follows: I have a group of Html.RadioButtons that represent the possible values a user can choose to answer a survey question (1 == Not at all, 2 == A little, 3 == A lot). I have used a tinyint datatype, that does not allow null, to store the answer to each question. I have put the Questions into my form view model (hence Model.Questions); the questions table has a field called QuestionColumn that allows me to link up the answer table column to the question, as shown above (<%= Html.RadioButton(col, "1")%, etc) [/Note] However, when the user DOESN'T answer the question, the value 0 is getting inserted into the database column. As a result, I don't get what I expect, ie, a validation error. In no place have I stipulated a default value of 0 for the fields in the answers table. So what is happening? Any ideas?

  I have a data processing system that generates very large reports on the data it processes. By "large" I mean that a "small" execution of this system produces about 30 MB of reporting data when dumped into a CSV file and a large dataset is about 130-150 MB (I'm sure someone out there has a bigger idea of "large" but that's not the point... ;) Excel has the ideal interface for the report consumers in the form of its Data Lists: users can filter and segment the data on-the-fly to see the specific details that they are interested in - they can also add notes and markup to the reports, create charts, graphs, etc... They know how to do all this and it's much easier to let them do it if we just give them the data. Excel was great for the small test datasets, but it cannot handle these large ones. Does anyone know of a tool that can provide a similar interface as Excel data lists, but that can handle much larger files? The next tool I tried was MS Access, and found that the Access file bloats hugely (30 MB input file leads to about 70 MB Access file, and when I open the file, run a report and close it the file's at 120-150 MB!), the import process is slow and very manual (currently, the CSV files are created by the same plsql script that runs the main process so there's next to no intervention on my part). I also tried an Access database with linked tables to the database tables that store the report data and that was many times slower (for some reason, sqlplus could query and generate the report file in a minute or soe while Access would take anywhere from 2-5 minutes for the same data) (If it helps, the data processing system is written in PL/SQL and runs on Oracle 10g.)

• What is Wordpress doing for content encoding in it's mysql database?

  For some convoluted reasons best left behind us, I require direct access the contents of a wordpress database. I'm using mysql 5.0.70-r1 on gentoo with wordpress 2.6, and perl 5.8.8 ftr. So, sometimes we get high-order characters in the blog, we have quite a few authors contributing too, for the most part these characters end up in wp's database in wp_posts.post_content or wp_postmeta.meta_value, Wordpress is displaying these correctly on it's site, but the database stores it using single byte encoding that I can't figure out how to convert to the correct string. Today's example: the blog shows this, and doesn't even seem to escape any chars in the html, Hãhãhães but the database, when viewed via the mysql prompt, has, Hãhãhães So clearly this is some kind of double-byte encoding issue, but I don't know how I can correct it. I need to be able to pull that second string from the database (b/c that's what it gives me) and convert it to the first one, and i need to do so using perl. also, just to help unmuddy any waters, I took these strings and printed out the ascii codes for each character using perl's ord() function. Here is the output of the "wrong" string H = 72 à = 195 £ = 163 h = 104 à = 195 £ = 163 h = 104 à = 195 £ = 163 e = 101 s = 115 This is the correct string, that I need to produce in my script H = 72 ã = 227 h = 104 ã = 227 h = 104 ã = 227 e = 101 s = 115

• Efficiently select top row for each category in the set

  I need to select a top row for each category from a known set (somewhat similar to this question). The problem is, how to make this query efficient on the large number of rows. For example, let's create a table that stores temperature recording in several places. • Silverlight 4, Google Chrome, and HttpWebRequest problem

  My Silvrlight 4 application hosted in ASP.NET MVC 2 working fine when used through Internet Explorer 8, both in development server and remote web server (IIS 6.0). However when I try to browse through Google Chrome (version 5.0.375.70) it throws "remote server returned not found" error.   I couldn't find a similar question, that's why here it is: Whats the best way to hide or encrypt an email link in a website, so that a crawler can't read it, but the user can nevertheless click it? I don't want to conufse the users by typing the email like this: john (at) mail.com or similar ways. (and i think this kind of links can nevertheless read by crawlers?) • "Function object is unsubscriptable" in basic integer to string mapping function

  I'm trying to write a function to return the word string of any number less than 1000. Everytime I run my code at the interactive prompt it appears to work without issue but when I try to import wordify and run it with a test number higher than 20 it fails as "TypeError: 'function' object is unsubscriptable". Based on the error message, it seems the issue is when it tries to index numString (for example trying to extract the number 4 out of the test case of n = 24) and the compiler thinks numString is a function instead of a string. since the first line of the function is me defining numString as a string of the variable n, I'm not really sure why that is.   I have a form input, and the label spans multiple lines, and I want the corresponding checkbox to appear at the bottom (last line of the label element). • Data structure to build and lookup set of integer ranges

  I have a set of uint32 integers, there may be millions of items in the set. 50-70% of them are consecutive, but in input stream they appear in unpredictable order. I need to: Compress this set into ranges to achieve space efficient representation. Already implemented this using trivial algorithm, since ranges computed only once speed is not important here. After this transformation number of resulting ranges is typically within 5 000-10 000, many of them are single-item, of course. Test membership of some integer, information about specific range in the set is not required. This one must be very fast -- O(1). Was thinking about minimal perfect hash functions, but they do not play well with ranges. Bitsets are very space inefficient. Other structures, like binary trees, has complexity of O(log n), worst thing with them that implementation make many conditional jumps and processor can not predict them well giving poor performance. Is there any data structure or algorithm specialized in integer ranges to solve this task?

  I have a dark-gray JPanel with a JLabel on it. I set new Color(0, 0, 0, .5f) (tranparent) as the background of the JLabel and I change the text several times using a button. The problem is, everytime the text is changed, the previous text still remains behind the new text. I change the text from "123456789" to "1234567", "12345" and "123". Here is the screenshot: How do I get rid of this "shadow"? • PHP Game weapon accuracy

  I'm trying to come up with a way for players to fire their weapons and only hit for a certain percentage. For example, one gun can only hit 70% of the time while another only hits 34% of the time. So far all I could come up with is weighted arrays. • Rate my C# code (~300 SLOC) using GDI+/Backgroundworker

  Hi, I want to get some feedback on my code! Below is some background info. I am taking a pre-certification course in C# (Sweden, 15 ECTS). The focus of the course is theoretical and only limited practical work. I dont find the assignments very hard at all to tell you the truth, but since I only have very limited work experience as a developer (I have worked 15h/week at Ericsson since November) I think I would benefit from having the certificate (70-536 and more probably). I am currently reading Martin Fowler's "Refactoring: Improving the design of existing code" and I tried to apply his techniques to my latest lab in the course. I have been on the lookout for a website which have the idea of providing feedback on code, but so far I have yet to discover any. Please take a look on my code and tell me what you think. It is only roughly 300 lines of code divided into a couple of classes. GDI+, backgroundworker and user controls are what the lab is about. I reckon you may have to spend as little as a couple of minutes on looking on the solution. • find consecutive nonzero values

  I am trying to write a simple MATLAB program that will find the first chain (more than 70) of consecutive nonzero values and return the starting value of that consecutive chain. I am working with movement data from a joystick and there are a few thousand rows of data with a mix of zeros and nonzero values before the actual trial begins (coming from subjects slightly moving the joystick before the trial actually started). I need to get rid of these rows before I can start analyzing the movement from the trials. I am sure this is a relatively simple thing to do so I was hoping someone could offer insight. Thank you in advance -Lilly EDIT: Here's what I tried: s = zeros(size(x1)); for i=2:length(x1) if(x1(i-1) ~= 0) s(i) = 1 + s(i-1); end end display(S); for a vector x1 which has a max chain of 72 but I dont know how to find the max chain and return its first value, so I know where to trim. I also really don't think this is the best strategy, since the max chain in my data will be tens of thousands of values. Thanks for helping me edit, Steve. :)

  I am trying to add several labels that appear sequentially with a time delay between each. The labels will display either 0 or 1 and the value is calculated randomly. I understand that if i use [CCDelayTime actionWithDuration:0.2*i] the code will work. But the problem is that i might also need to iterate this entire for loop and have the labels appear again after they have appeared the first time. how is it possible to have actions appear with delay and the actions dont always follow the same order or iterations???

• Filtering null values with pig

  It looks like a silly problem, but I can´t find a way to filter null values from my rows. • Hovering a div shows hidden div - jquery to prototype conversion

  I may get killed for this but I have been trying for a few days using Prototype to show a hidden div when hovering over another div. I have this working fine in jquery but I could use some help porting it over to prototype.
