  • ec2 instance won't boot!

    - by TheToolBox
So I had a server lose connection while updating to 14.04LTS. Foolishly, it ended up getting rebooted, and now I'm here. I disconnected the volume and mounted it on another system, chrooted it, and updated the kernel. Still no dice. Any idea what the problem could be? Thanks in advance! • Unable to boot to Ubuntu

    - by nsk
Just got a new laptop and removed Windows 8 and installed 13.10 using LiveUSB. Initially it was booting to "No boot media" but I was able to resolve it with boot-repair. I realized some of the items I need isn't supported on 13.10, so attempted to install 13.04 instead. Now without LiveUSB, the laptop just boots to "No boot media" but boot repair doesn't seem to be fixing it. Tried going back to 13.10, but no dice. After boot repair it says "Please do not forget to make your BIOS boot on sda1/EFI/ubuntu/grubx64.efi file!". GParted shows sda1 has the boot flag. Using Toshiba Satellite P50. Secure Boot disabled. UEFI enabled. Any help would be highly appreciated. http://paste.ubuntu.com/6366556/

I have been forced to move from a Centos Dom0 xen 3 Centos + Ubuntu Lucid DomUs To Debian Wheezy Dom0 Xen 4 Ubuntu Lucid DomUs However although I can create new DomUs on wheezy I cannot get them to boot. pygrub returns Error: Bootloader didn't return any data I have ensured that the disks are the correct way around in the xen.cfg and also that the grub config is correct. If I try to run pygrub manually eg /usr/bin/pygrub /dev/volgroup/disk I get Illegal instruction can anyone offer me any advice on this? Thanks Matt

  • Can I center a UIToolbar item?

    - by Ben
I am putting a label on a UIToolbar (per this tip: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/333441/adding-a-uilabel-to-a-uitoolbar). But the toolbar has a button on the left side, and so flexible spaces throw the label off the center, which is where I'd like it to be. Can I somehow center this toolbar item so that it remains centered in the toolbar? (Already tried balancing the button with a dummy fixed space, no dice.) Thanks!

  • Trouble with OpenLayers Styles.

    - by Jenny
    So, tired of always seeing the bright orange default regular polygons, I'm trying to learn to style OpenLayers. I've had some success with: var layer_style = OpenLayers.Util.extend({},OpenLayers.Feature.Vector.style['default']); layer_style.fillColor = "#000000"; layer_style.strokeColor = "#000000"; polygonLayer = new OpenLayers.Layer.Vector("PolygonLayer"); polygonLayer.style = layer_style; But sine I am drawing my polygons with DrawFeature, my style only takes effect once I've finished drawing, and seeing it snap from bright orange to grey is sort of disconcerting. So, I learned about temporary styles, and tried: var layer_style = new OpenLayers.Style({"default": {fillColor: "#000000"}, "temporary": {fillColor: "#000000"}}) polygonLayer = new OpenLayers.Layer.Vector("PolygonLayer"); polygonLayer.style = layer_style; This got me a still orange square--until I stopped drawing, when it snapped into completely opaque black. I figured maybe I had to explicitly set the fillOpacity...no dice. Even when I changed both fill colors to be pink and blue, respectively, I still saw only orange and opaque black. I've tried messing with StyleMaps, since I read that if you only add one style to a style map, it uses the default one for everything, including the temporary style. var layer_style = OpenLayers.Util.extend({}, OpenLayers.Feature.Vector.style['default']); var style_map = new OpenLayers.StyleMap(layer_style); polygonLayer = new OpenLayers.Layer.Vector("PolygonLayer"); polygonLayer.style = style_map; That got me the black opaque square, too. (Even though that layer style works when not given to a map). Passing the map to the layer itself like so: polygonLayer = new OpenLayers.Layer.Vector("PolygonLayer", style_map); Didn't get me anything at all. Orange all the way, even after drawn. polygonLayer = new OpenLayers.Layer.Vector("PolygonLayer", {styleMap: style_map}); Is a lot more succesful: Orange while drawing, translucent black with black outline when drawn. Just like when I didn't use a map. Problem is, still no temporary... So, I tried initializing my map this way: var style_map = new OpenLayers.StyleMap({"default": layer_style, "temporary": layer_style}); No opaque square, but no dice for the temporary, either... Still orange snapping to black transparent. Even if I make a new Style (layer_style2), and set temporary to that, still no luck. And no luck with setting "select" style, either. What am I doing wrong? Temporary IS for styling things that are currently being sketched, correct? Is there some other way specific to the drawFeature Controller? Edit: setting extendDefault to be true doesn't seem to help, either... var style_map = new OpenLayers.StyleMap({"default": layer_style, "temporary": layer_style}, {"extendDefault": "true"});

  • Should I use a recruiter?

    - by Dubs
Knowing how to find a good job is an important part of being a programmer. I know it's a good idea to post my resume on different sites like Monster and Dice. I also know that networking is important. But, what I'd really like to know is how everyone feels about using a recruiter (aka headhunter). What are the pros and cons? Is it better to deal with a company directly? Thanks!

  • How would I create a random number?

    - by Elliot Bonneville
How would I create a random number using C++? I've heard that one should use the time as a seed, but I'm not sure how to do that with the correct syntax. How would I do this? One more thing - how would I limit the random number to a particular range? I'm simulating a dice roll and getting numbers in the millions...

  • NAN mixing float and GLFloat?

    - by carrots
This often returns NAN ("Not A Number") depending on input: #define PI 3.1415f GLfloat sineEaseIn(GLfloat ratio) { return 1.0f-cosf(ratio * (PI / 2.0f)); } I tried making PI a few digits smaller to see if that would help. No dice. Then I thought it might be a datatype mismatch, but float and glfloat seem to be equivalent: gl.h typedef float GLfloat; math.h extern float cosf( float ); Is this a casting issue?

  • visual studio recognizing .asp properly or suggestion for classic asp editor/iDE

    - by Neil Warner
How do I get visual studio 2005 to work best with .asp files? I used to have this on my old PC but I can't get the settings right. I exported and important all my old settings and still no dice. alternatively I think there might be an even better choice for classic asp IDE editor. It'd be nice to have intellisense, completion, highlighting, stuff like that for ASP (vbscript) and css/html at the same time. (I'm happy not to type out css selectors) thanks

  • rake gems:refresh_specs error on unpacked gems

    - by Urf
Following the great advice of Chris Wanstrath, I decided to vendor everything. However, whenever I run a rake task now I get an error for each of my unpacked gems stating config.gem: Unpacked gem gemname in vendor/gems has no specification file. Run 'rake gems:refresh_specs' to fix this. I've done this but no dice. Anyone have the same issue? If so, how do I resolve? TIA

  • Exception thrown in a referenced .dll how do I debug?

    - by Sara Chipps
I'm using watermark extenders on textboxes and an exception is being thrown from the AJAX Control Toolkit .dll. It's strange because this just started happening. I tried debugging from the Ajax solution and Ajax examples (but with my code), but no dice. Is there a way to step into the Ajax .dll from my solution to see where this is happening?

  • Implementing events to communicate between two processes - C

    - by Jamie Keeling
Hello all! I have an application consisting of two windows, one communicates to the other and sends it a struct constaining two integers (In this case two rolls of a dice). I will be using events for the following circumstances: Process a sends data to process b, process b displays data Process a closes, in turn closing process b Process b closes a, in turn closing process a I have noticed that if the second process is constantly waiting for the first process to send data then the program will be just sat waiting, which is where the idea of implementing threads on each process occurred and I have started to implement this already. The problem i'm having is that I don't exactly have a lot of experience with threads and events so I'm not sure of the best way to actually implement what I want to do. Following is a small snippet of what I have so far in the producer application; Create thread: case IDM_FILE_ROLLDICE: { hDiceRoll = CreateThread( NULL, // lpThreadAttributes (default) 0, // dwStackSize (default) ThreadFunc(hMainWindow), // lpStartAddress NULL, // lpParameter 0, // dwCreationFlags &hDiceID // lpThreadId (returned by function) ); } break; The data being sent to the other process: DWORD WINAPI ThreadFunc(LPVOID passedHandle) { HANDLE hMainHandle = *((HANDLE*)passedHandle); WCHAR buffer[256]; LPCTSTR pBuf; LPVOID lpMsgBuf; LPVOID lpDisplayBuf; struct diceData storage; HANDLE hMapFile; DWORD dw; //Roll dice and store results in variable storage = RollDice(); hMapFile = CreateFileMapping( (HANDLE)0xFFFFFFFF, // use paging file NULL, // default security PAGE_READWRITE, // read/write access 0, // maximum object size (high-order DWORD) BUF_SIZE, // maximum object size (low-order DWORD) szName); // name of mapping object if (hMapFile == NULL) { dw = GetLastError(); MessageBox(hMainHandle,L"Could not create file mapping object",L"Error",MB_OK); return 1; } pBuf = (LPTSTR) MapViewOfFile(hMapFile, // handle to map object FILE_MAP_ALL_ACCESS, // read/write permission 0, 0, BUF_SIZE); if (pBuf == NULL) { MessageBox(hMainHandle,L"Could not map view of file",L"Error",MB_OK); CloseHandle(hMapFile); return 1; } CopyMemory((PVOID)pBuf, &storage, (_tcslen(szMsg) * sizeof(TCHAR))); //_getch(); MessageBox(hMainHandle,L"Completed!",L"Success",MB_OK); UnmapViewOfFile(pBuf); return 0; } I'm trying to find out how I would integrate an event with the threaded code to signify to the other process that something has happened, I've seen an MSDN article on using events but it's just confused me if anything, I'm coming up on empty whilst searching on the internet too. Thanks for any help Edit: I can only use the Create/Set/Open methods for events, sorry for not mentioning it earlier.

  • What hack can I use to suppress an unused function warning?

    - by Yuval A
Consider a private method which is called from JNI and not used otherwise, generating a compiler warning about an unused method: private void someMethodCalledOnlyFromJNI() { // WARNING: method is never used // .... } This is some legacy code in Java 1.4 - so no dice on @SuppressWarnings. What hack would you use to suppress this compiler warning?

  • JQuery Dialog with constant aspect ratio

    - by David Semeria
I need to display an image in a resizable dialog (so far all the specific image popup libraries I have tried do not fit my needs). All I want to do is maintain the aspect ratio during resizing. Sounds easy, but it's not. I thought something like this might work, but no dice: var d = $("").dialog({title:title, width:400, height:400}); d.resizable( "option", "aspectRatio", true ); Any pointers greatly appreciated, tks

  • How can I left-justify numerical output in fortran?

    - by mishaF
I am writing some simple output in fortran, but I want whitespace delimiters. If use the following statement, however: format(A20,ES18.8,A12,ES18.8) I get output like this: p001t0000 3.49141273E+01obsgp_oden 1.00000000E+00 I would prefer this: p001t0000 3.49141273E+01 obsgp_oden 1.00000000E+00 I tried using negative values for width (like in Python) but no dice. So, is there a way to left-justify the numbers? Many thanks in advance!
