• Problem with ubuntu 10.10 running from USB drive

  Hi Geeks, I recently downloaded Ubuntu 10.10 and created an USB drive with that. I started to run the Ubuntu from that USB drive. But I am facing so much problem. I am thinking why its not so much easy like Windows to do all my job in ubuntu. Always I get some error message or to install something. This time I am getting the following errors. I am trying to download and install Aircrack-ng. So used the command sudo apt-get install aircrack-ng. But the installation stops with the following error : update-initramfs: deferring update (trigger activated) cp: cannot stat `/vmlinuz': No such file or directory dpkg: error processing bcmwl-kernel-source (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 Errors were encountered while processing: initramfs-tools bcmwl-kernel-source E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) I don't even have the aptitude command installed till now. Are all these errors because of I am running the ubuntu from USB drive? Is there any simple and easy way to go to Ubuntu Software Center and download all the required essentials at one shot and then Aircrack-ng? I could not find the Aircrack-ng in Ubuntu Software Center Can anybody give me detail steps to solve all my problems above. I am frustrated searching for updates and installations. When something works and something does not work. Can anybody suggest me how I should proceed after installing ubuntu to run on a USB drive. So that I can use the OS like Windows. Like software download,wireless driver, sound, video, documents, C:, D: all things should be there. Please somebody help.

• Nginx + PHPBB3 reverse proxy images problem

  Hello all I have a problem with my Nginx Frontend + Apache2 backend + PHPBB3 software. It doesn't load the CSS and the images neither. • Apache and Virtual Hosts Problem on OS X

  I recently formatted and installed my iMac. I am running 10.6.5. Prior to this format, I had the default Apache web server up and running with several virtual hosts, and everything ran beautifully. After formatting, I set everything back up again, and now Apache is acting funny. Here is a description of what I have going on. My default root directory for the Apache Web server is pointed to an external hard drive. In my httpd.conf, here is what I have: DocumentRoot "/Storage/Sites" Then a few lines beneath that: <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All Order deny,allow Allow from all </Directory> And then beneath that: <Directory "/Storage/Sites"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow,deny Allow from All </Directory> At the end of this file, I have commented out the user dir include conf file: Include /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-userdir.conf And uncommented the virtual hosts conf file: Include /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf Moving on, I have the following entry in my vhosts file: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot "/Storage/Sites/mysite" ServerName mysite.dev </VirtualHost> I also have a host record in my /etc/hosts file that points mysite.dev to 127.0.0.1 (I also tried using my router IP, 192.168.1.2). The problem I am coming across is, despite having PHP files in /Storage/Sites/mysite, the server is still looking at /Storage/Sites. I know this because in the DocumentRoot contains a php file with phpinfo() (whereas the index.php file in mysite has different code). I have tried setting up other virtual hosts, but they are still doing the same thing. Also, "NameVirtualHost *:80" is in my vhosts file. I saw as a solution on another thread here. Doesn't seem to make a difference. Any ideas on this? Let me know if this is not enough information.

• Problem with connecting two different networks

  I have two networks: 192.168.13.0/24 (blue) and 192.168.15.0/24 (green). Computer A is connected to the 13-net, only. Computer B has two interfaces, one in each network. There is third computer that acts like a router and connects the 13-net to the 15-net (only in this direction). Now, I'd like to ping 192.168.15.100 from computer A to B. Unfortunately there is never a reply. But when I use a hub instead of a switch it works. In my opinion the ping packet travels through the switch to the router (which is the default route/gateway for A). The router sends the packet back to the switch to B. Probably B receives it on its 15-net interface but answers with it's 15th interface? Is this possible? The problem is, that B may have only a gateway 192.168.13.50 - but I am not really sure of it (B is a embedded system with limited configuration possibilities). Can anyone explain what happens here? • Running Solr on VPS problem

  I have a VPS with Ubuntu OS. I run solr om my local machine (windows xp laptop) just fine. I have configured Jetty, and Solr just the same way as on my computer, but on the server. I have also downloaded the JRE and installed it on the server. However, whenever I try to run the start.jar file, the PuTTY terminal shows a bunch of text but gets stuck. I could pase the text here but it is very long, so unless somebody wants to see it I wont. Also, I cant view the solr admin page at all. Does anybody have experience in this kind of problem? Maybe java isn't correctly installed? It is a VPS so maybe installation is different. • Log Problem and bash script

  Hello Guys, I have 11 Debian servers running on rackspace cloud hosting. All running VHCS2 for hosting management. 1 server is used for application and 10 are used for only smtp. My question is regarding smtp servers. Each server hosted 1 domain. My problem is when my client use smtp there's a log created in this directory /var/log/ but within 24 hours drives are full and server refuse all smtp connections. Then I deleted the logs and ran following command to check the disk space. df -h but it shows hdd still full and server is still refusing the smtp connections. Then I ran following command to see the truth du --max-depth=1 -h It shows the truth. The real disk space used. Then I rebooted the server and now server working fine. But after few hours same situation happened. Then I created the following script. #!/bin/sh rm -fr /var/log/* rm -fr /var/log/apache2/*.log rm -fr /var/log/apache2/*.log.* rm -fr /var/log/apache2/users/* rm -fr /var/log/apache2/backup/* reboot It worked for days but after that logs are again filling the hdd. Now I want the following solutions. If anybody can help me. When I delete files from server hdd will free up without rebooting Log should be in specific range. Like a specific size of file where old data overwrite with new data

• GA-P55A-UD4 SYSFAN 2 problem....

  Hi, I have some strange problems with the mobo in title. I have two fans connected to SYSFAN 1 and 2. Both are the same temp regulated Arctic Cooling F12. They are regulated thru temp sensor which is in different cable from fan. It connects to the 3 pin. So, I connected them to SYSFAN 1 and 2 MB ports. The problem is, when PC starts, the fan connected to SYSFAN 1 spins nice and is reporting speed to BIOS. But second fan connected to SYSFAN 2 starts to spin, than stops. I tried to warm the sensor with no help. Also, in BIOS I found no feature about SYSFAN 2 mode or something. I tried the fan itself by connecting it to PWR fan connector and it works fine. But obviously I want it to operate in SYSFAN 2. Please if you have any advice, help. Thanks.

• Problem running MVC3 app in IIS 7

  I am having a problem getting a MVC 3 project running in IIS7 on a computer running Windows 7 Home-64 bit. Here is what I did. Installed IIS 7. Accessed the server and got the IIS welcome page. Created a directory named d:\MySite and copied the MVC application to it. (The MVC app is just the standard app that is created when you create a new MVC3 project in visual studio. It just displays a home page and an account logon page. It runs fine inside the Visual Studio development server and I also copied it out to my hosting site and it works fine there) Started IIS management console. Stopped the default site. Added a new site named "MySite" with a physical directory of "d:\Mysite" Changed the application pool named MySite to use .Net Framework 4.0, Integrated pipeline When I access the site in the browser I get a list of the files in the d:\MySite directory. It is as if IIS is not recognizing the contents of d:\MySite as an MVC application. What do I need to do to resolve this?

• Problem virtualizing Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit on VirtualBox 3.1 on Windows Vista 64 bit

  Software & Hardware Setup Host System : Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64 bit Guest : Ubuntu 10.04 (ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso) 32 bit VM : VirtualBox 3.1.8 Hardware : Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 4GB SDRAM What Happened I followed the tutorial called Installing Ubuntu inside Windows using VirtualBox located here: www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/virtualbox At first I downloaded ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso because I figured that it would be a perfect fit with my Vista 64 OS. I was wrong because it turns out the my Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 CPU does not have Intel® Virtualization Technology. So I had to go with the ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso which is 32 bit. This got me to the point where I could actually create the Ubuntu VM. So I set up the VM in VirtualBox (according to the tutorial I was following) to prepare for the Ubuntu 10.04 virtualization. The last 8 show my attempt at virtualizing Ubuntu 10.04. You can see booting up but ultimately failing. The Specifics The one error message I got was: (process:210): GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0) It appeared on a black screen that sort of looked like a Windows console screen but with out the c:\ or the ability to type. Then this error message got more complex when tons of text appeared in the screen. Pictures 23 - 25 in the album show this text. I should also mention that I found this post in the Ubuntu forums by zonination who seemed to have similar problems to mine even though they had a different set up. The main issue I think zonination and me may be having is the fact that we can not change the color mode to 32 bit while it is booting. I think the 16 bit color mode maybe making Ubuntu fail. Not certain though. Well I hope I explained my problem thoroughly and clearly. Thanks for the tutorial. It got me started but, now I hope to finish this process so I can start developing in Ubuntu.   I am using Tomcat 6 as application server, Struts-Hibernate and MyEclipse 6.0. My application uses JDBC driver but I should modify it to use JNDI Datasource. I followed steps as described in tomcat 6.0 howto tutorial. • Apache Simple Configuration Issue: Setting up per-user directory permission denied problem

  Hello. I am just getting Apache 2.2 running on Fedora 13 Beta 64-bit. I am running into issues setting my per-user directory. The goal is to make localhost/~user map to /home/~user/public_html. I think that I have the permissions right because I have 755 to /home/~user, and I have 755 to /home/~user/public_html/ and I have 777 for all contents inside of /home/~user/public_html/ recursively set.   Hello. I have a website running on IIS and using Windows Authentication. All users that are configured to get access to the site are form a AD domain (not local users). In the properties of a Website, I have set to use the AD domain as the realm. Now, when using Firefox, Safari or Chrome - Everything is fine. When the user tries to open the site, he get's the login box. he enters simply "username" and "password" (let's pretend that it's an actual login and password :P) and he get's into the site. When using IE, however, things get nasty. When the user tries to open the site - he get's the login box. User enters the "username" and "password" again, but those get rejected! And when the second time login box pops up - it has the username filled in as "web-server-domain-name\username" which is wrong, because web-server-domain-name is not the domain where all users reside (it's "ad-domain"). I've spent days trying to figure out what's going on... Note, that if I manually enter "ad-domain\username" - I get accepted into the site without problems. So, my guess is that IE sends wrong username if domain is not specified. Anyway, IE is the only browser that triggers this behavior! Is it possible to do a server-side fix? Maybe it's possible to somehow auto-map the users to AD users? If it's not solvable server-side - is there a client-side fix for this? Thank you. PS: I'm more of a programmer than a sys-admin, so configuring servers isn't the strong side of mine... :P UPDATE: @Evan: Yes, "Digest authentication for Windows domain servers" is also enabled. @Eric: IIS version is 6.0. The authentication methods enabled are: Integrated and digest - all other methods are disabled. As for the security log. I looked at it, when doing "username" and "password" login in Chrome/Firefox and when doing "ad-domain\username" and "password" login from IE - the generated log messages are the same (I see no difference, anyway). When entering "username" and "password" I don't see any errors in the security (or any other) log, so can't tell what method it's trying to use. UPDATE 2: As suggested by Eric in the comments - I played around with Fiddler... While playing with it, I noticed, that when "username" and "password" is entered in FF and IE - the "Authorization" header value (encrypted) sent by IE is longer (almost two times) than one sent by FF. I tried to disable Windows Integrated authentication and only leave the Digest enabled - that fixed the problem (meaning, IE used the right realm just like other browsers), but that caused bazillion other problems with my site, because with Digest - user impersonation on the server doesn't work (that causes problems, when connecting to database etc). Any ideas?

So, my guess is that IE sends wrong username if domain is not specified. Anyway, IE is the only browser that triggers this behavior! Is it possible to do a server-side fix? Maybe it's possible to somehow auto-map the users to AD users? If it's not solvable server-side - is there a client-side fix for this? Thank you. PS: I'm more of a programmer than a sys-admin, so configuring servers isn't the strong side of mine... :P UPDATE: @Evan: Yes, "Digest authentication for Windows domain servers" is also enabled. @Eric: IIS version is 6.0. The authentication methods enabled are: Integrated and digest - all other methods are disabled. As for the security log. I looked at it, when doing "username" and "password" login in Chrome/Firefox and when doing "ad-domain\username" and "password" login from IE - the generated log messages are the same (I see no difference, anyway). When entering "username" and "password" I don't see any errors in the security (or any other) log, so can't tell what method it's trying to use. UPDATE 2: As suggested by Eric in the comments - I played around with Fiddler... While playing with it, I noticed, that when "username" and "password" is entered in FF and IE - the "Authorization" header value (encrypted) sent by IE is longer (almost two times) than one sent by FF. I tried to disable Windows Integrated authentication and only leave the Digest enabled - that fixed the problem (meaning, IE used the right realm just like other browsers), but that caused bazillion other problems with my site, because with Digest - user impersonation on the server doesn't work (that causes problems, when connecting to database etc). Any ideas?

Some times, when I order the controller to go to a specific frame, for example [myMovie setCurrentPlaybackTime:16.32]; it goes not to this position, but to a point before the specified point. I think it goes to the nearest keyframe. How can I force the video to stop doing this and go to the precise location? Is there any hope of solving this? thanks for any help.

  I have a problem installing PyQt4. I have Windows 7 with Python 3.1.2 installed. When I execute the PyQt-Py3.1-gpl-4.7.3-2.exe it shows the warning: This copy of PyQt has been built against Python v3.1 which doesn't seem to be installed. Do you wish to continue with the installation? Why the installer can't see my python installtion???, I set the PYTHONHOME env variable and added python to the PATH variable but is always the same warn. I don't know if the last .2 in my python's version is the problem. If I ignore the warning and install the PyQt, when I try to run the Examples and Demos from the All Programs menu it doesn't show anything. Im new to python and Qt, I don't know how to debug or something to solve this problem =S

In Vista this isnt a problem, all I have to do there is to run "dcomcnfg" and in there find the Microsoft Excel dcom file. In Windows 7 I cant find it, and I have no idea what to do now... If anyone could help me that would be great!

• OAuth::Problem (parameter_absent)

  Im working with OAuth 0.3.6 and the linkedin gem for a Rails application and I have this issue where OAuth throws an error saying that OAuth::Problem (parameter_absent). The thing is it doesn't throw the error on every occasion its called and the problem is I am unable to reproduce the issue locally to test it. The documentation says that : [parameter_absent: a required parameter wasn't received. In this case, the response SHOULD also contain an oauth_parameters_absent parameter. ] but the request is generated the same way each time to obtain the tokens so I fail to understand why this happens. • Upload images problem: IO error. (Error #2038)

  I'm using script which is uploading files to server via flash component. Sometimes, very rarely, when trying to upload images via Firefox I get following error: IO error #2038. Searching on the net I could find reason why is it really happening to me. But I found solution for my case: I open IE6, do the same thing there (photos are always uploaded without problem) and the when I try again in Firefox problem disappears. If someone had similar problems maybe this could help or maybe this hint could help to someone discovering cause of the problem :)

• Binding redirect problem in .net

  I have a class library called "MyAssembly" that is internally referencing a.dll, b.dll of version 3.1.1.0; I have build the project which outputed MyAssembly.dll. On a different system (box) I have created a web application project and referenced the MyAssembly.dll. the new system has new versions of a.dll and b.dll 4.0.0; I used binding redirect in web.config like below. But still unable to compile the web application. it says missing assembly reference a.dll, version 3.1.1.0. Could any body help in solving this issue? Thanks, Suresh
