• Good analytics tools that can track visitor actions from a particular source?

  Are there good tools that can track what actions a certain subset of visitors (i.e. from a particular source) do once they're on your site? As far as I know (which could be wrong), Google Analytics can't do this beyond telling you how long they stayed, bounce rate, and average number of pages. I'm looking for something that can tell me which links they clicked on, and if possible break it down per-visitor. Free solutions would be great, but I'm anticipating that this would require a paid solution.

Is this a pattern or an anti pattern? If so, does it have a name and are there any well known pros and cons to this approach? Is there a better way to achieve the same result? Rewriting the interfaces and/or the concrete implementation is not normally an option as it will be provided by a third party library.

  Getting Started with ADF Mobile Sample Apps   Installation Steps Install JDeveloper 11.1.2.3.0 from Oracle Technology Network After installing JDeveloper, go to Help menu and select "Check For Updates" and find the ADF Mobile extension and install this. It will require you restart JDeveloper For iOS development, be on a Mac and have Xcode installed. (Currently only Xcode 4.4 is officially supported. Xcode 4.5 support is coming soon) For Android development, have the Android SDK installed. In the JDeveloper Tools menu, select "Preferences". In the Preferences dialog, select ADF Mobile. You can expand it to select configure your Platform preferences for things like the location of Xcode and the Android SDK. In your /jdeveloper/jdev/extensions/oracle.adf.mobile/Samples folder you will find a PublicSamples.zip. Unzip this into the Samples folder so you have all the projects ready to go. Open each of the sample application's .JWS file to open the corresponding workspace. Then from the "Application" menu, select "Deploy" and then select the deployment profile for the platform you wish to deploy to. Try deploying to the simulator/emulator on each platform first because it won't require signing. Note: If you wish to deploy to the Android emulator, it must be running before you start the deployment.   Sample Application Details   Recommended Order of Use Application Name Description 1 HelloWorld The "hello world" application for ADF Mobile, which demonstrates the basic structure of the framework. This basic application has a single application feature that is implemented with a local HTML file. Use this application to ascertain that the development environment is set up correctly to compile and deploy an application.   I have an application written in C. What I have is a bunch of c files and some .h files. Also, I created a Makefile to do compilation. How can I compile this into a deb package. I searched google, and put everything into a "name_0.1.orig.tar.gz" file and created a folder named "name-0.1", then inside that folder, "dh_make" Skipping creating ../name_0.1.orig.tar.gz because it already exists Currently there is no top level Makefile. This may require additional tuning. Done. Please edit the files in the debian/ subdirectory now. You should also check that the name Makefiles install into $DESTDIR and not in / . I have a Makefile in name.tar.gz, why it is not recognizing ?

  Our site currently is going to require our users to download a player to view videos they will want to view on our site. The videos get uploaded by users from various sources (smartphones in 3gp format for example). However most people have Flash on their machines. I am trying to 'make a gentle stand' and tell the team that requiring a download of a video player is not acceptable. My thinking is this: instead of allowing people to upload 3gp and other formats then re-serving the exact format on REQUESTs from our site's users we will instead use a video converter such as FFMpeg to convert every uploaded video to FLV for viewing on flash. so when a user requests to view one of the videos on our site -- boom they probably already have Flash installed so we just play the video in their Flash player. I feel serving up FLV flash video is best. Does it ring true that requiring, say, a 3gp player download just to view a video is the wrong approach?

Is there a certain format they utilize on Programming Requests which helps you to understand exactly how the development team can succeed with this project.   How will I know when my company is ready to receive an investment? I am starting a company and have bootstrapped it so far. I have produced four versions of the demo. The first fully-working version is underway. Getting this to a beta phase product will require capital, which requires an investment, which requires an investor, which requires I stop working on the product and go out and talk to people about it. The last time I raised money from investors, it took a while but I was successful. I don't want it to take a while. I want it to be brain dead simple for an investor to understand the value so that I can optimize the time I spend with the product. Is my logic flawed? What is the best way to approach raising money, while limiting both my time and risk? Thanks.

Say if i hav 5 accounts...i created cookie1.txt,cookie2.txt an so on.. then the script worked..with the post data But i want this to be always logged in and post data..   Will the developer or company (is a corporation or is not) be responsible for legal consequences, or will they be covered and protected by the Apple Store Terms of Use agreement? For example: 1) the app is fun and the kids show the app to a parent who is driving the car, and got into an accident. 2) if the app does road navigation and it went into problem or crash or slow, and caused an accident while driving. 3) or if the terms require using an app in a safe and non-time critical situation, what if the app recommend some exercise routine or diet (such as suggesting eating more eggs, milk, or using some herbs), and it could be argued that they caused any health consequence?

Are web-developers typically better-paid than desktop software programmers? Do web-developers require a wider skill set? I often see a number of different languages being listed as necessary on web development job applications. Will most potential employers except me to be very familiar with command line Linux? (I'm a Windows guy myself, but I've used Linux in the past). I realize that specialists in dying languages like COBOL or FORTRAN can make a lot of money too, but I am not interested in stuff like that.

• Is there an open source solution that I can host on a web server that will allow users to anonymously upload a file to me?

  I'm looking for some kind of web application I can host on my Linux web server that will allow users to upload files of arbitrary size to me from their browser without requiring them to log in. Ideally this application would allow me to generate a link to my website that allowed for a one-time use upload. It might contain a unique, random key that was only good for that session. I could email them the link, they click it and are taken to a page where they can upload their file to me. I'm mainly targeting friends and family that need to send me files that are too large for email. I don't want to require them to install anything (dropbox), sign up and log in, etc. I'm definitely not teaching them to use FTP. This wouldn't be a difficult project for me to roll on my own but I'd like to take something off the shelf if it is possible. Does anything like this exist that my google-foo isn't turning up?

• Using Minified Page Specific JS [migrated]

  I've been working on a rather large scale project which makes use of a number of different pages with some very specific Javascript for each of them. To lessen load times, I plan to minify it all in to one file before deploying. The problem is this: how should I avoid launching page specific JS on pages which don't require it? So far my best solution has been to wrap each page in some additional container <div id='some_page'> ...everything else... </div> and I extended jQuery so I can do something like this: // If this element exists when the DOM is ready, execute the function $('#some_page').ready(function() { ... }); Which, while kind of cool, just rubs me the wrong way.

• What tool do you use to create SVGT icons for your app?

  This is a question mainly for Symbian developers. I would like to create some demo apps to put on my mobile phone and have some kind of nice icon on the application grid. If I've understood correctly, the application grid icon needs to be in SVG Tiny format. The problem is I don't have any toolset to create such a format. There don't seem to be any free tools to edit or convert to SVG Tiny format. The cheapest option around seems to be e-Picture Pro for $169. Inkscape has had some initiative to make it SVGT-compliant, but not much seems to be happening there lately. So the question in short is how do you create your icons for your Symbian apps (or other uses that require SVG Tiny)?

• Will everything (downloaded fonts, files, apps etc) remains the same when I upgrade from Maverick to Natty?

  I'm planning to upgrade from Maverick to Natty, and to try out Unity, but I don't want to lose any settings, customizations and downloads in Maverick. I just want to know, if upgrading alter anything that I said earlier? I don't want to start over with a clean, fresh Natty, and I hope I can keep all of my files and folders and settings in Maverick, and to have them in Natty after the upgrade. Is this possible? Should I use Update Manager to achieve this? And would all my compiz-settings be reset after I upgrade? Sorry for too much questions, but I'm asking this because you know, in Windows, any version upgrade would require the disk to be reformatted. I hope Ubuntu is more convenient than that.

• Is it possible to boot without mounting /home?

  I want to backup my /home partition on /dev/sda6 using partclone, a command line utility. To do so, I first have to unmount the partition that I want to backup. Most of the time, this is easy, but /home is used by so many processes that it can't be unmounted without first killing all those processes. So, the thing I'm looking for is a way to boot Ubuntu, without mounting /home, so I can back up the not-mounted /dev/sda6 partition. Is that possible? To be clear, it would be nice if this special boot could be 'one-time-only'. So I'm not looking for ways to change /etc/fstab in such way that /dev/sda6 won't be mounted. That's because that would require me to change /etc/fstab twice each time just to make a backup. I'm aware of the fact that there are other backup solutions available, such as deja-dup. I'd like to use partclone, though.

• Upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04--keyboard & mouse no longer work--system down!

  I upgraded from Ubuntu 11 to 12.04, today, and everything seemed to go smoothly up to, and including the reboot. However, I now find that my mouse and keyboard no longer function, so I cannot login or otherwise use my computer. I have read other posts on this topic, but most of the answers seem to require the use of a keyboard to implement the solution--and I can't use my keyboard! I downloaded a 12.04 LiveCD and tried booting from it, but I have the same issue with that--no keyboard! My systems is a Lenovo with an AMD64 dual processor, and my keyboard and mouse are USB attached and shared with two other Windows PCs via a KVM switch (so I no the keyboard and mouse work!). I would appreciate some hints about how to make this PC usable, again. Thanks!

• Search for odt files without indexing

  I am looking for: a way to search inside odt files (i.e. search for contents, not name) that does not require any kind of indexing that is graphical and very user-friendly (for a relatively old person, who does not like computers much) I know that it is possible to have 1) and 2): for x in `find . -iname '*odt'`; do odt2txt $x | grep Query; done works well enough, and it's pretty fast. But I wonder if there is already a good solution that does this with a GUI (or can be adapted to do this easily)

• What technology(s)would be suitable for the front end part of a Java web game?

  As asked in a previous question, I'm looking to create a small MMO that will be deployed onto GAE. I'm confused about what technologies I could use for the user interface, I've considered the following JSP Pages - I've got experience with JSP/JSTL and I would find this easy to work with, it would require the user having to "submit" the page each time they perform an action so may become a little clumsey for players. Applet - I could create an applet that sits on the front end and communicates to the back end game engine, however I'm not sure how good this method would be and have not used applets since university.. What other options do I have? I don't have any experience in Flash/Flex so there would be a big learning curve there. Are there any other Java based options I may be able to use? My game will be text based, I may use some images, but I'm not intending to have any animations/graphics etc Thanks

Duplicate all the content on the .com package and make a replica at the other domains Buy the other domains but do a 301 redirect back to the .com domain. Create a full new website with different content for the new domains, thus having no text duplication We currently sell over the world so would like to raise our Search rankings in various countries, can this be done by buying the domain in the country, and if so, how will the above methods affect our search rankings.   I am in the early stages of creating an open source C# library that would allow developers to drop in the open SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/) into an existing project. Abstracted it is a complex set of tightly coupled business rules. Having previously worked on an adaptive object model project for health care risk management I began with that pattern in mind. Due to the high coupling of rules it is becoming apparent that the project may require some kind of scripting. Have started researching DSL implementation I am now considering scraping the adaptive object model for a domain specific language. I have not work with domain specific languages so my question is it reasonable to assume a domain specific language can be used to representing the open SRD?

• quickest way to research a set of pages backlinks

  I have a list of 300+ pages (they were chosen based on which pages rank for a keyword I'm interested in) and I want to compile a list all the (known) inbound links to those pages. What's the fastest way to do this? It seems like the only tools out there-- Yahoo Site Explorer, SEOMoz, Majestic, require you to either a) manually export each set of links by hand, or b) get data at the domain level (e.g. Majestic's clique hunter). Does anyone know of any efficient way to do this? I ask because I'm about to write a bunch of code and I don't want to waste my time if there's another tool that will work. I know SEOMoz and Majestic have API's but I'm wondering if there's a more user-friendly option.
