    On Linux you can create any layout you wish by editing the appropriate ASCII configuration files. On Windows the keyboard layout definitions are binary. Is there any tool that can create these binary keyboard layout configuration files? I grew up on the Macintosh international keyboard layout, which used the option key extensively, and now I would like to use the same layout on Windows. On Linux this Mac international keyboard layout exists for both the console as well as for X.Org. On Windows, the most similar layout is US International, which is not the same.

  • How to disable Microsoft eHome MCIR Keyboard and company?

    Hi! I'm and unlucky owner of and Acer 7720G laptop which, like many in its category, has receiver for a proprietary infra red remote control device (which I did not receive with my laptop!) . Now my problem is that the receiver is detected as Microsoft eHome MCIR Keyboard, Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard and Microsoft eHome Remote Control Keyboard keys. My problem is that this driver has incompatibilities with some programs I use like for example DosBox. When these devices are installed, they cause DosBox to incorrectly detect some keyboard buttons. The workaround is to remove or disable the 3 hardware devices. Unfortunately, I the disable option is grayed out and when I delete them, they are reinstalled on next restart. Is there any way to hack windows in order to prevent their installation? I was thinking about locating the drivers these devices use, but they are buried somewhere in windows installation and I don't have enough experience to find them, so I'm asking you for help.

  • HDD is not recognized/initialized via USB, only via SATA - is a reformat through USB a bad idea?

    I have a 4TB Hitachi HDD that I purchased in Europe (I use it as a backup disk); I use Windows 7. When I connect it to a SATA port, it is recognized in Windows Explorer and gives no problems, even after transferring 3TB at a time or after being on for days. When I connect it via a SATA-to-USB2.0 adapter, it is also recognized, but when I transfer a large amount of data, it will intermittently stop being recognized by Windows Explorer and cancel the transfer. When I connect it via an external enclosure (which is technically a SATA-to-USB3.0 adapter), it does not display at all in Windows Explorer, but Disk Management will show the drive, albeit uninitialized (prompts for format). I only got the external enclosure because I want to backup my files more conveniently (instead of having to open the computer case each time). Do you advise against reformat/initialization via the external enclosure? Can it screw up things in an irrevocable way (Master Boot Record etc.)?

    I'm a new person at Linux and am running Linux mint 15 cinnamon from an 8GB sandisk pendrive. I cannot dualboot it with windows until my friend (who is a genius at computers) backs up my windows (apparently). The thing is, I cannot save what I have done on it. for example, if I install drpython on my Linux and switch off my laptop, the next time I switch it on, it's all gone. can anyone tell me how I can save what I have done?     Here it goes. My friend saved by his works into my flash drive which was detectable/openable but ... The very next day, the drive wouldn't show up in My Computer and Windows gave him error code 43 (Unknown device). I been searching for the next few hours to find a solution as the works inside is important to him. I know he should back up his files but let's not go there. So .... I tried others few systems that once detected his flash drive but the problem still persisted. I don't know whether or not his flash drive is damaged but when plug/un-plugging, there are still sounds coming out though. Tried solutions: [On Vista Home Premium/HIS COME]Uninstalled -- Restarted com -- Re-installed (ERROR 43) [Windows 7/MY COM] Uninstalled --- Restarted com --- Can't install (ERROR 43) It seems that my com (Windows 7) had the lastest drivers already but still can't detect it. Its a Kingston DataTraveller 101 (DT101) 8GB. Could unplugging the flash drive without clicking "Safely Remove Hardware" is the problem? Kindly provide some help. Thank you all.

    I have a Kingston flash drive which works fine in every computer that I insert it. But in my Windows 7 it doesn't mount anymore. Why this is happening ? When I insert the flash drive it seems that the Windows 7 recognize it, but when I hover the icon don't show the flash drive to remove it, as usually does. Any idea ? Thanks. Any idea ?   • Recommendations for USB flash drive fast at writing small files

    I want a drive that I can be used as my work drive, storing a Subversion repo and sandbox for a small project. I'd also like it to be able to store a DVD rip. At the moment I've got a Super Talent pico-C 8gb. It's fast at reading and writing DVD rips, but the performance on small files (ie less than 4k) is utterly terrible (we're talking floppy disk speeds here). This Ars review measured a similar Super Talent drive and pretty much confirmed my measurements (take a look at the random write speeds on page 5). So, I'm looking for a 8gb or bigger drive that doesn't suck at read and write of small files and still has acceptable performance for very large files.

But as the drive letter for the camera may change depending on what's already connected, I need to pass this drive letter as an argument to the script. Is this doable? Thanks.     I recently bought a Logitech Wireless Keyboard and mouse. I use it almost daily but for a couple of hours only. The keyboard has 2 AAA batteries and the mouse has 1 AA battery. The box mentions that the keyboard has a 24 month battery life and the mouse has a 5 month battery life. Should I keep the batteries in the keyboard/mouse, when they are not in use?Is it safe? Does the battery life mean 24 months of continuous usage or 24 months of average usage?

When I insert the pen drive at the time of booting of my PC, nothing happens and windows XP starts normally instead of asking me if I want to boot from my pen drive. Also when, I entered my BIOS setting to change the boot order there was no option of pen drive as a boot device. Please suggest me a way to install the OS using my already made bootable pen drive.   • Completely formatting a USB flash drive

    I have a Verbatim Store 'n' Go drive which by default comes with software in a partition which password protects the drive. I want to erase this partition, as it only works on Windows (I'm having to look at it now through a virtual machine on my Mac). I've tried using KillDisk to totally wipe the whole thing, but it doesn't seem to work, and this password-protecting partition always remains intact. Is there any program which will completely wipe a flash drive, no questions asked? Or is there a way to do it through the Verbatim software? I have the password and everything, I just can't find a way to fully format it. Cheers.

    There's a program I'm thinking of using called Punto Switcher that detects a language I'm typing in and switching entire word between Russian and English. The problem I have with this setup is that even though most of Russian letters "correspond" to English letters, Russian keys are scattered all over the keyboard and I don't feel like learning them all as I type in English mostly. Now, the program is very specific about me using RU, kbdru.dll file, not any other and if I use a custom keyboard under Russian, it doesn't recognize what I type so I think I should change the default RU keyboard. I created my custom keyboard using Microsoft's tool and I need to modify original one. I think it will take more than just replacing a file. Help?

Is a specific type of bluetooth USB adapter required? And even assuming I had the necessary USB adapter, what commands must be executed (on the keyboard, Android, or Windows 8 machines) for the bluetooth keyboard to switch between devices?
